Barnesy has a multi-talented family including brother in law Johnny Diesel who plays a mean guitar and sang in a trio with Jimmy and John back in the 90’s and played lead guitar in the above song. One of the female backup voices you hear in a lot of these songs is missus Barnes, Jane who has a hell of a voice of her own and is an awesome bagpipe player. If you get a chance check out the Jimmy and Tina Turner duet.

Jimmy Barnes is an Australian legend. His solo stuff is great, but his work with Cold Chisel is iconic.
Cold Chisel is one of Australia’s greatest ever bands and in many ways their music is the soundtrack to generations of Australians, especially those of us who grew up in the 80s & 90s.

Jimmy's basically got a 50-year back catalogue, both solo and as one of two lead vocalists in Cold Chisel. He's the biggest selling artist in Australia ever. The question is where to start? Maybe with Wild Thing with Cold Chisel live at their Last Stand concerts in the early 1980s? It's Jimmy, young and wild and definitely not sober... It's got to be one of the best live performances in rock ever. I will say, with both Jimmy and Chisel, generally live is best.

I love watching people discover Jimmy. 5 decades of belting out great tunes. One of the best rock performers ever. I saw his Soul Deep tour in 2022 and he did not take a break for 3 hours (well he did a half song break whilst his daughter sang a song but he came back on half way through and sang back up for her, which shows how much he loves performing. One of Jimmy's biggest solo songs is Working Class Man but i think you need to see him with his original band, Cold Chisel. One of the most loved bands in Australian history. I think you need to see their performance of Wild Thing live from their Last Stand concerts...it is something else.

But you can hear him sing twice in that movie if you know his voice). His favourite sound is rock, but he sings soul, blues, reggae and more….

There is so much content from Jimmy, both from his original band called Cold Chisel to his solo works and just like this there is countless recordings of him joining other legends around the world and singing with them.
His whole family is rediculously talented.
He has a massive range from a thunderingly powerful voice to the most gentle mousy croons.
His strong Scottish/Aussie accent shines through in the best way.
One of his live shows for cable, he sung with several people, but the song he sung with the gorgeous Marcia Hines, the song Fire and Rain. It is stunning and so gentle it shows his lowest and softest range perfectly.
And his rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone which he sung with his adult son David Campbell is heart warming.

Additionally, Barnes achieved five more as the lead singer of Cold Chisel, bringing his combined sum to 20 number-one albums in Australia,. Fun fact - Jimmy Barnes had to turn down Eddie Van Halen’s offer for him to replace David Lee Roth in Van Halen, because Jimmy had himself just started his solo career after splitting from Cold Chisel.
Eddie sought him out and went to visit him personally to make the pitch. Jimmy had no choice but to refuse the offer, and so EVH went and got Sammy Hagar instead.

my adult children don't understand why I reckon modern singers are plastic fantastic including how they stand or how they hold a microphone (or don't).. this is how I expect a singer to sing and a band to play.. i'm a product of the eighties.. singing it with heart and feeling it to the core.

Try the official release of Khe Samh by Jimmy and Cold Chisel, the return story of a Vienam vet to Australia. Incredible lyrics, it's an alternate national anthem. Written by Chisel keyboard player Don Walker, a great writer who never wastes a word. Good reaction mate!! Cheers

Jimmy started his career in a band called Cold Chisel. then went solo and has also teamed up with some other great artists. His children he had with his wife also had a band for a small time called the tin lids. He is an Australian legend in our music industry.

I first saw Jimmy Barnes live in 1986 during his Working Class man tour and I saw him again last year during his Soul Deep tour. He was mind blowing as a young man and just as amazing even now he’s in his 60’s. You have to check out some of his 80’s songs, both with Cold Chisel and from his solo albums. Maybe Working Class Man or Die To Be With You Tonight would be a good starting point. Thanks for the reaction to a compete legend!

Always listen to these guys live, that's when they're at their best. If you want to jump down another Aussie rabbit hole, there's John Farnham. Check out a younger Jimmy with his band Cold Chisel performing Wild Thing live at the Last Stand Concert
Then one of his bugger hits as a solo artist called Working Class Man
And awesome duet with another Aussie Legend John Farnham performing When Something is Wrong with my Baby
And something fromnjust last year a duet with American music Legend Sam Moore. Called Soothe Me
Jimmy is full on Rock King with smooth Blues vibes 💙

That is Jimmy’s son on drums too. I’d recommend Cold Chisel’s live rendition of Wild Thing during their “Last Stand” tour in the early 80s. His voice blasting away was incredible. He could also do brilliant softer harmonies.

You have to go down the Jimmy Barnes rabbit hole, especially his work as lead singer with Cold Chisel, one of Australia's top 3 rock bands of all time.
    From their 2003 Ringside tour:
    Bow River
    When the War Is Over
From their 1983 "Last Stand" tour (Sydney Concert)
Cover of Wild Thing - if there was ever an embodiment of the wild thing it is Jimmy singing this!
Ian Moss (lead guitar and vocals) cover of "Georgia On My Mind"
Any videos you can find for these:
    Khe Sahn
    Flame Trees
    Saturday Night
    You've Got Nothing I Want

Jimmy /Cold Chisel were a regular at my local Pub/nightclub back in the Mid 70's, Great Band, Jimmy (as others have said) if not drunk at the beginning of the night, certainly was by the end, often getting down in the crowd ( with his mic on the 50ft lead) if you were under age and couldn't get into the pub (ie not yet 18) didn't matter, you could always hear them from the car park out back.

Barnsey downed 3 bottles of Vodka and his brother John Swan 🦢 had to finish the concert . Barnsey is a god dam Legend here in Australia 🇦🇺. There is so much phenomenal home grown Talent you should review from down under.
