What's even crazier.. that was the 3rd encore of the show, the last song. Jimmy had been going like that all night... AND he was hella drunk. Phenomenal live performance.
And that was at the end of a 2 and 1/2 hour concert - that's the way to finish a show. Now it's time to check them out on their reformation tour - Live Ringside Tour 2003 and check out 'Bow River' or 'When the War is Over' . Just to prove talent gets better with age.
@@AndreaSilvestro Couldn't agree more about the Live Ringside Tour 2003 and checking out 'Bow River' . Jimmy and Ian Moss (Lead guitar) share vocals. Insanely great performance.
This was their breakup concert in 1983… They would reunite in 1997, and are currently touring their 50th anniversary… Here in Australia, they are absolutely rock royalty… Hall of famers, Jimmy twice…
Chisel is my favourite band, and Jimmy is my favourite artist. 🎉🎉🎉 There are so many reasons why I love this. JImmy, aka Barnesy and Ian Moss, aka Mossy on guitar 🎸 have extrordinary vocals together. Ian matching noises on his guitar from the crowd, and Jimmy's stage presence and jumping into the crowd is legendary. Oh, and I could listen to Jimmy anytime and be in bliss.
Jimmy would have been "off his face" an Australian term for completely drunk to the point I'd be surprised he'd even remember this performance. He's is much better nowadays and can still sing awesomely. If you were lucky enough to see Jimmy and Cold Chisel back in the day you should feel blessed. He uased to go through bottles of spirits.Great video!
Jimmy once said in a 60 Minutes interview that he got through a couple of bottles of spirits in every concert. Drunk as a skunk most of the time, but still out performs everyone. Tea is his choice of drink now.
"I love how he has his little bandmate take over for him" That "little bandmate" is Ian Moss a very talented and accomplished solo artist as well as the co-lead singer and guitarist for Cold Chisel... Another interesting fact is, the guitarist in Jimmy Barnes & John Farnham - When Something Is Wrong With My Baby is another very talented and accomplished solo artist named Diesel, who also happens to be Jimmy's brother in law
They are touring at the moment in Australia, 50th Anniversary tour. I am going to watch them preform tomorrow night in Melbourne Australia at Flemington race course. Cant wait!
Legends.. Ian moss the guitarist has had a solo career as well and actually sings a few cold chisel songs as lead singer and with Jimmy in support.. Probably the best one with him in the lead would be Saturday night.. the music clip of Saturday night is great but the life version is also good and from same concert as this and Jimmy seems very drunk and it shows how tight the band is as they control the music and to an extent Jimmy..
I think that Ringside Tour "Bow River" performance kills all the others though ... it's insane how good they are in that one. Love Saturday Night but that Bow River performance is stellar.
Ian Moss sings "Georgia" even better than Ray Charles. And Steve Prestwich (RIP) is also a great singer. He also released a solo album ("Since You've been gone"). Have a listen to that one.
First off lol at Andrea's reaction to old time roadies. And second, the guitarist Ian Moss is the heart and soul of the band. Barnes' antics are only possible as Mossy leads the band, and can take over vocals. He's a better singer IMHO than Barnes. He has to be good, many times especially in the earlier years Barnes was so drunk or high he wouldn't even turn up to gigs, and Mossy had to do it all. All wounds are healed now, but the reason the band broke up in 1983 was the friction this caused. The drummer, Steve Prestwich (RIP) and Barnes hated each other so much they often had fist fights, and it didn't matter where. I toured with Barnes in the early 90's BTW, I knew him (and his family) personally. As others have said there's a magical live album from 2003, "Ringside", that's just gold from start to finish. Stellar performances from all.
Hi Andrea. An aussie here just joined your channel. Great reaction to Cold Chisel. Jimmy and John are great singers but one person who never receives the recognition is Ian Moss, the guitarist from Cold Chisel. Please check out the songs Bow River and Mossys cover of Georgia on my mind. I promise you will love them. Cold Chisel. the greatest aussie band ever. You have started down the rabbit hole that is Cold Chisel. enjoy!!!!!!!!
Fun fact: After bashing a roadie Jimmy Barnes briefly left Cold Chisel to replace Bon Scott as lead singer of Fraternity, after Bon left to join AC/DC.
Jimmy at his best...i've watched this concert a thousand times and am old enough that i still own it on vhs and also have a dvd copy lol. I'm still yet to hear a better version of this song and it has been covered an awful lot. In this video, it is the security detail that he is struggling with, not the fans...you need to hear the guitarist, Ian Moss, sing some more...the band actually has 2 lead singers believe it or not, and he sings just as many songs as Jimmy, with many songs shared. I suggest you check out When the war is over live from Ringside, you will get more Ian singing lead, Jimmy singing backup and lead vocals, the band doing their thing, and it is a great version of their song. Still my favourite all time band.
great reaction Andrea. You have hit the motherload. Aussieslove to see their music on you tube . Give us Cold Chisel ,John Farnham, Jonny Diesel and more Jmmy
This was Jimmy, 3 sheets to the wind 😂😂😂😂 (totally drunk) he’d drink a bottle or 2 of spirits during a concert. These days he’s sober now. @9:45 he said to Ian Mossy “ come on Mossy get up” 😂😂😂😂
His live version of Sam Cooke’s “Change is Gonna Come” a few years later after he went solo, is soooo soulful and definitely worth checking out. It’s a bit more structured and not quite so chaotic as this version
If you want more of his music you should do Jimmy Barnes - StoneCold (ft. Joe Bonamassa) it shows that even decades later he is one of our greatest musicians. Or maybe you should do Joe Bonamassa ft. Mahalia Barnes - Riding With The Kings if you are interested in hearing how Mahalia matches up to her dad.
Jimmy was totally out of control in a good way, probably on his second bottle of vodka? These years and through the 90’s were some of jimmy’s greatest years. Jimmy almost got his shirt ripped off and looked like he got a bit pissed off for a bit. Chisel definitely one of our greatest rock bands and even when Jimmy went solo was still awesome, and this was one of the greatest performances and versions of this classic song. Glad to see you back Andrea.
If you want to see just how good Ian Moss actually is at singing & guitar look for Cold Chisel "Bow River" Ringside. Trust me as good as this performance is live it's nothing compared to that.
Love your reaction to this epic concert, there are others to Cold Chisel you will enjoy, They back doing concerts again with less..shall we say flair but awesome still. Take care.
Jimmy might have been off his tits at the time is what’s happening. He was a wild man. This is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen it heaps.
Ian Moss could have been a superstar vocalist as well, but he didn't want to be leed singer and leed vocalist.......so they hired Jimmy's older brother, John Swann, as the vocalist, but ended up with Jimmy when Swanee decided he had " better " things to do. 🤔

Ian Moss singing Georgia from the same Cold Chisel last stand concert(s) 1983 is another singing masterclass.
And that was at the end of a 2 and 1/2 hour concert - that's the way to finish a show.

Except it wasn’t the end, they had 2 encores
added to the list thanks!!

@AndreaSilvestro Fellow Aussie here. Fully Agree!
I honestly think that this performance must be one of the top 5 rock performances of all time. It's just CRAZY. 😁
I grew up with this band. Thank god. Thanks Chisel. 🤘🏻

Great reaction 👏👏👍🏻, now ya would love to see cold chisel doing ‘bow river’ live from the “ringside “ tour👍🏻
Loved their interpretation and making it their own!
Reckon this is the best version of 'Wild Thing'
ooh Noo it is the best version
It is, full stop.........
