Just to highlight how big Jimmy Barnes in Australia is he has had 20 number one albums (Cold Chisel and solo career) the next best in Australia is the Beatles with 12 number one albums.

You’re right. He’s the master of using his false vocal cords which is why he hasn’t destroyed his voice. This technique is used in a lot of soul and gospel singing as you probably know.

One of my all,time favourite tracks. Every musician in that room a master. Listen to that horn section. And Jimmys son so easy on the drums.
Jimmy has been rehearsing for shows coming up, next weekend in the Whitsundays I think. He really is a very versatile performer and now looks after his health and voice.
First saw him live in 1979, booked to see him in Feb.
Love this performance. Jimmy did a cover of the 1966 Sam and Dave song When Something is wrong with my Baby with another Australian legend John Farnham that is another soul classic where Diesel (Jimmy’s American born brother in law) is the guitarist on that one. Worth a view and one step deeper into the decades of Aussie music mostly unknown outside our shores. Strangely, it wasn’t until you questioned that lick that I noticed the change if Jimmy’s shirt from brown/white/brown and realised it was an continuity editing error.
You need to watch the live version of Jimmy, John and Diesel on "Hey, Hey it's Saturday" doing "When Something is Wrong with my Baby" .... you will not be disappointed. From one proud Aussie

Jimmy's daughter, Mahalia Barnes did a stint as a backup singer for Joe Bonamassa, try "Riding with Kings", where she gets to do a solo. The apple fell right next to the tree and it's producing some damn fine fruit.

@@michaelgoyettemusic lol no i actually don’t! I got these from range planet- they’re usually pretty reliable. I’ve tested a few of them out by separating the vocals and analysing the stem as well as the midi and it does sometimes depend on the version but pretty reliable.

Just watched a game show and he said he was just 16 and a half when he started with Cold Chisel and he was in another band called Fraternity before that. He is still performing at 67 years old.

Jimmy Barnes has an amazing blues, R&B voice. He was lead singer for Cold Chisel and has done duets with many people including Tina Turner. Tons of great music by him that you can wade into.

Reactions to John have had a few blocks lately. It seems to have no reasoning, some go through okay and others completely blocked
I’ve seen other reactions to the exact video that I got blocked for. I don’t know why. I’ve contested it but it takes up to 30 days to get a response.

Nice reaction 👍. I´m 57y old bass/barryton singer and been singing my whole life and can, if I push it, hit A4. But here is Jimmy, in the same age as I am now, hitting Db5 right on pitch, with ease AND with grit. Now, that´s very very impressive! And it doesn´t sound like he´s really pushing it all the way to the top, so I believe he could´ve reached even higher if he wanted to. I mean, other male singers half his age struggles to reach C5. Jimmy is one of a kind and he´s just awesome!
I’m on cusp of bass and baritone….Db 5 is probably as high as I can go but it starts sounding heady around A4…on a good day. Singing is definitely not my main gig!

But awesome song and performance and reaction. Jim and Joe compliment each other perfectly. Yep there is at least 2 takes as Jimmy is wearing 2 different shirts in close up and distant shots. But they don't promote it as truly live. But still feels like you are listening to a live take.

There were multiple takes which is fine….but Joe was improvising so his hands are doing something totally different from what we hear. I have an issue with ADD sometimes and that was definitely triggering it. 😂 ❤️ 🙏

Yes it would be hard to match up video from many takes to what Joe is doing and what we are hearing. The end clip works well though.

Jimmy is now 67 and if you want to know if he can still go high he was 58 in this one and he can still go higher. Check out Soothe Me by Jimmy Barnes and Sam Moore. Jimmy recorded and released this song last year just after his 66th birthday and Sam Moore was 86. And yes Sam Moore is the same Sam Moore from Sam and Dave.

Yo! I’m on my third watch today of this review. I also saw Jimmy on a quiz show online today……The questions where on him 😂 one question was how old he was when he joined Cold Chisel. The other person answered 17 and Jimmy corrected him and said he was 16 and a half. Imagine having his voice at that age. My goodness…..by the way he still has it.❤❤❤

my guess is what you SEE is the actual take ....with some dubbed edits RE: diff licks
Looks like the vocals were filmed after the recording.. you can see him in a vocal booth at the end of Joe's solo wearing a different shirt which is probably the recorded take.. they would have filmed another take of Jimmy outside the booth for better shots.. so his mouthing of a lot of this doesn't exactly match the track, could even be miming 😶.. but it's still 100 percent Jimmy.
Same with Joe, the footage isn't all live..
Oh I know…..the take of Joe isn’t the one they recorded….and I’d say he was improvising because what his fingers were doing was nothing like what was playing. The recording is awesome though. ❤️
@michaelgoyettemusic just that little bit you picked up is definitely an edit, the rest of it to there seems live to me. Think the whole take was live then they refilmed jimmy's vox and the few seconds of Joe's..
Even on the Cold Chisel Bow River clip you reviewed has some "incorrect" footage spliced in over the top of Ian Moss's soloing for a second or 2. I'm sure they do that when the original footage was missed, or someone blocked the view, or maybe whoever was doing the edit went to cut and paste but accidentally deleted? Who knows, all moot anyway. All of the main solos on Stone Cold were definitely the actual solos recorded for the take, maybe the end section was overdubbed much later?
Pretty sure that's Jimmy's daughter Mahalia doing BVs, but she's nowhere to be seen, so obviously added later
The whole of Stop Making Sense was a mish mash of different night's shows all spliced together so different audio dubbed over different video, but all live recordings.
If you enjoyed Beth Hart singing I'd rather go blind check out Karise Eden, she has been compared to Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner, Etta James and Aretha. In my honest opinion Karise is not better, but she is just as good.
