R.I.P mantis
Your color scheme will be missed, but your stand-up trains will not
+stalfos slayer I've been saying this should be a floorless for years. Glad they listened. xD
Magmalox 150
Trust me, you didn’t, it was painful 😂😂
We got stuck on it for two hours on the first hill.
@@heybro8697 yo were you on the same time I was. because i remember that. and it sucked.
I loved that ride
I need to go to Cedar Point and give Mantis... One last standing ovation
Rougarou > Mantis
Nice trolling bud.
But a 3 month old comment? Are. You. Serious?
Well you can't even reply on a 3 year old comment, and 3 months...you're a little late dude. A lot of people disliked mantis, and stand-up coasters are not what they used to be. They will be no longer eventually.
Replying to a 3 year old comment if just flat out ridiculous. Coasters that are built nowadays will continue to live on, and stand-ups will perish soon. Personally, a lot of people say Rougarou will be a better fit for CP. I agree. Mean Streak should either get the iron horse treatment or the axe.
Should have called it the nutcracker
😂😂
How about the ball buster
@@braydenstranan5920 orb wrecker
I new i couldn't be the only one. Went to Cedar Point in 2011 and THIS FUCKER, was the only ride I've ever been on that almost made me sick. Took a few mintues afterward, but that ball busting in the begining will eventually catch up to ya huh pal 😂
The nut buster
RIP Mantis. I rode it last week for the first time and I can say I'm glad they are converting this to a sit down coaster. Wasn't the most comfortable ride as a stand up coaster
R.I.P Mantis
It was fun until after you got off. xD
Mostly what I miss is the time this ride represented. When it came out it wasn’t just the ride next to Millennium. That B&M roar could be heard almost all the way to frontier town. This wasn’t ground breaking by any means but it was a nice complement to Raptor, Magnum, and Gemini when it came out. Sure do miss those days. In my honest opinion, CPs prime was from around 1996-2007. It was THE coaster park.
This thing hurt like hell, but damn it ripped through the course... I can see why they modified it to Rougarou, but the original definitely holds a special place in my heart... and my balls... god it hurt my balls
My seat got locked while I was on my tippy toed locking my phone in my cargo pocket. That ride hurt like a bitch lol
Rip mantis everything will be missed about you
If you go in the very back, the ride operator told us to take our feet off the seats when you go down! IT WAS AWESOME! it felt like you wet flying! :)
Favorite ride!
If you want a good experience, front seat, put your seat down lower, and either stand on your toes on the sharp maneuvers or hold the restraint and push back!
***** I know it's sad :(
Rougarou will always be Mantis to me, and probably a lot of other people to though :P
Favorite coaster of all time. I remember this being the biggest thrill when i was there. Its been 15 years, but, still my favorite roller coaster ever.
Did you like Rougarou though
@@SnoopyMan6000vids i haven't been there since 2004. I also rode the mantis. Omg that was an experience.
I almost died on this roller coaster. My harness came loose on the lift hill and the only thing keeping it from popping up completely was the little seat belt strap. In trying to fix it, my glasses flung off my face (fortunately landed and stayed on the floor of the coaster). Legitimately the most terrifying experience of my life. Would ride again.
Why would you wear your glasses? And no you didn’t almost die. No I wasn’t there and no I don’t need the info. I call B.S. 😂
@@user-lq7sp3vu4x Why would I wear glasses? Because I wanted to watch the ride... Otherwise, I'd have just seen blurs, which wouldn't be fun. If you don't want to believe me, whatever.
Nowadays I have contacts, so no longer need to worry about pesky glasses. :)
Glad you are okay! Did you tell the park staff what had happened?
@@andrewsstation6436 I told the workers at the station what happened, but I was 15 at the time, so they didn't really take me seriously.
Dang that sounds terrifying
Loved, LOVED that ride.....sad to find out it's gone, RIP
I went on this at night, and its perfect. I had no wait.
I went on this once and it was the most amazing feeling evea!
Still a good solid thrill ride, it was one of the best stand-ups ever built. I don't understand why it didn't attract more riders. Much more fun than Iron Dragon anyway.
Mantis had the best paint job
So sad that this ride is going to be gone ;( R.I.P You will never be forgotten!
The Stand-Up version (this one) of this ride is COOL, despite the fact I never had the chance to ride it.
i love these videos soon my class In June will be going to ceder point and it gives me a chance to see what it is like
the mantis is not there anymore. it's now the rougarou
It’s still there. Rougarou is Mantis. Same layout....the color and name are different and it now has floorless trains.
شكرا لك :)
As a long legged person the stand up nature of the ride wasn’t an issue for me. I remember Mantis pretty fondly.
I remember when we went to Cedar Point, it was the year Mantis opened. I was too scared to go on it (I did get the hat as a souvenir from the park shop because I thought it was cool) but my older brothers went on it three times.
When I was there, Mantis was so loud that the people who were watching had to cover their ears! 2013
im 55 inches and u gotta be 54 now i can ride :D
I miss the mantis i remember getting so lucky one day there was zero line so we rode it like 4 times in a row
So glad they converted it. Mantis was a triple whammy of head-banging, turning your legs to jelly, and smashing your groin. Rougarou is so much more enjoyable.
While I agree I’m also so glad I got to ride it, a super unique experience in retrospective if you can tolerate gettin the crap beat out of ya hahaha
They should replace the standup trains with floorless trains.
Josh Kaiser Raptor, Gatekeeper, Wicked Twister... These rides technically have no floor... but no actual floorless coasters
there is a rumor they might do that next year Josh VanTubergen PeaceLoveZombies2
PeaceLoveZombies2 you got your wish. Of a rough and not so great floorless
Done ✅
All ready there
+Josh VanTubergen Those are sit down roller coasters i meant a FLOORLESS coaster like Griffon at Busch Gardens (look it up)
GOOD
I'm going on the raptor today😄! It's my first time. I'm staying up all night because I live an hour and a half away from Sandusky and some of my aunts live there. My family and I are going to the park an hour early because we've got season passes. I'm so excited to go on the raptor. My cousins live close to my house and all of them that went on said that it was the most fun ride in the park. They also said I should go on the raptor.
But this vid is about the nutcracker
Raptor is number 1 for me
Rip Mantis
Rip, I would’ve liked to try it! Never been on a stand up rollercoaster.
They’re not more popular for good reason - they’re super uncomfortable. That being said I remember liking this ride
I never did ride Mantis before it became Rougarou, but I will say this: the color scheme of the track looks a lot nicer, as does the new logo with the steam and rocks piled in front. Mantis looked a little bare bones and in need of some kind of makeover.
Let me tell you this. It did not.
I thought the color scheme was interesting in the 90s but I will admit the new color scheme really fits it now.
The only standup coaster I've ridden that doesn't murder my legs is Riddler's Revenge. I think it's because the positive G's are more spread out, and overall it has a "floatier" layout. Whether it hurts your legs or not must be determined by your build, because when I stand up (not locking my legs), every positive G moment sends a sharp pain to my calves, and completely relaxing and sitting on the "seat" does not change a thing. I don't want to say I hate the ride, but I hate the way it feels.
We'll miss you Mantis. The stand-up Roller coaster lives on in The Rougarou, the new floorless roller coaster. Cedar Point Rules!
Closing October 19 2014. R.I.P.
This ride should have been painted blue (or green or chautrese) to honour the lone mantis of the apocalypse, Zorak.
The CROTCH CRUSHEER
R.I.P Mantis 1996-2014
I’m not one for stand up rides so rougarou was definitely an upgrade in my op
R.i.p mantis 😢
Chloe Dady No one liked Mantis
This thing strongly reminds me of Rougarou.
It actually did become Rougarou in 2015. The coaster was converted to a Floorless Coaster, meaning the stand-up trains were replaced with sit-down floorless trains, which your legs and feet dangle from the seats.
At first it was supposed to be name The Banshee but they decided not to use that name and use The Mantis now it’s Rougarou
it's the ragarou now I've rode it soooo many times
whats the station music
this is my least fav ride at CP. It wasn't horrible but just bumpy. We stood in the mid cars in the middle seats. Got my head banged up quite a bit.
Yes. This is one I'll never ride. It can make your legs hurt too. Or so I've been told. So I won't ride it ; Good POV. I also think they put this stand-up ride into a tight footprint (area where the ride's located I should say).
Sad to hear that this ride is shuting down next month
B&m: Hey bro what’s a scary and intimidating roller coaster name?
Cedar fair: *m a n t i s*
I miss mantis😔
It’s still at Cedar Point. It’s just it’s now a floorless coaster.
I'm upset that this ride is closing on Oct. 3rd 2014. I never got 2 ride this
Crazy that I only know this as rougarou. Not that I mind though
i rode millennium force and its was so much better with the stomach tossing
Ru okay!

Mantis
Hello Rougarou! :D
I loved Mantis. Rougarou still has the great layout, but it’s just not the same.
Me and my friend rode this the whole time he was complaining that his balls hurt sooo ye
This guy I know I'm laughing went to cedar point with a field trip with with his class last day of school and he was so scared he waited for his his buddies to ride the mantis. He never rode it
my dad was on the mantis in this video
First time I rode this we got stuck at the top hill in the front seat for like 40 minutes it was horrible
My dad told me of the time he rode this ride with his friend and his friend got off the ride with swollen ears
That's now Rougarou.
HOW DA HAIL DID THIS TURN INTO ROUGAROU IN SUCH A SHORT TIME
Imagine if top thrill dragster was a stand up
anyone here from 2020 wishing they were tall enough to ride this before 2015?
Was this replaced by rougarou?
Its made by the same people, its like the same coaster just diffrent layout and color, uses the same brakes and the same lift hill motor system. its a great ride, it would be amazing if it was a sit down..
what was the girl saying at 1:46??
Definition of mantis: Hell. I mean this ride has you STANDING, AND IT GOES UPSIDE DOWN. WHY CEDAR POINT.
well... rougarou is in its place now... and it doesn't have you standing and possibly breaking your legs...
My legs always hurt after I ride this...but it's fun
Well, good going everyone! All your endless complaining got another of the few stand-up coasters needlessly removed, when all you had to do was lower your seat an inch or two before it locked. >:-(
I understand why the few Mantis fans are upset about it's refurbish/remodel, but there is a reason why stand-up coasters are being removed or remodeled! Few may have loved the stand-up concept, but what about the other 95% of riders who would rather do about anything on Earth besides get on a stand-up coaster? Everybody has their opinions and they're entitled to it, but IMO the stand-up concept has more than ran it's course in roller coaster history.
Hers's the thing you say why wasn't Chang scrapped, instead of being sent to SFGA to open as Green Lantern? I say why was Mantis closed and reinvested in by Cedar Fair for $7 million to Rougarou? Six Flags invested money to keep Chang in the rotation by moving it to SFGA and opening as Green Lantern... Cedar Fair has either closed or remodeled 3 of their stand-ups so far and are clearly over the concept. Either way it's opinion and in this example the 2 Companies have done the exact opposite of each other. Six Flags chooses to spend money to keep stand-ups, and Cedar Fair spends money to close em. I don't know, I just don't meet too many enthusiasts like you that have a liking for the stand-up concept.
I have nothing against stand-ups, they're just not what I prefer.
You know what that number was exaggerated a bit, and I have no clues as to where I got it TBH? I don't have a problem with the restraints or the seat provided, I have a problem with the whiplash I get from them. They're basically just not my type I guess, they give me headaches and cause nausea for me. I used to be able ride them when I was a kid but now they're Just not my taste, I'd rather be sitting on roller coasters in a relaxed position. You're right about having a video in the lines showing how to properly ride a stand-up, because it's probably a portion of the problem and I'll bet tons of riders are unknowingly riding them improperly.
***** I never been on it but I was kind of sad to see it go.
The final brakes look very harsh
I weny on at night it was fun but my head hurt. I kept it back it didnt work
I like to say, that some rides might as well operate floorless trains, and this is the perfect example...
If you see this, how do you like rougarou
R.i.P mantis
It’s reborn as Rougarou as it’s now a floorless coaster.
It's almost like Riddlers Revenge at Magic Mountain lol
(1:08) I suggest, we all hold on….TIGHTLY!!!!!!
What did they replace this with?
Repainted it and changed the trains
The only coaster I've ever gotten sick on.
Should have been left at Kentucky kingdom where is belonged . It was so smooth and fun not bumpy at all . Best ride in the park then they move it and it completely ruined the ride . Such a damn shame . Chang was the best
Mantis 1996-2014
😂 most uncomfortable ride 😭 and it got stuck every 3 times through 💀 definitely miss it though
Only reason I would like the first hill is the steps 😂
Insert random family guy "my balls" line here
This was the first roller coaster I ever rode..... I didn't know that it had a loop in it until it was too late... not a good first roller coaster in case you were wondering.
How did you not notice the loop? That fucker is massive! Biggest in the world when it opened, actually.
stalfos slayer Haha, I was with my friends :P I really couldn't look at it, it was so big!
the loop is bigger than the hill
Now it's rougarou
why is it closing
It's getting remodeled
Where is this ride
Itzael Meza Can you be more polite?
CedarPoint in ohio.
the Mantis obliterated your balls and left you sore for hours. not to mention all the times the ride broke down including one where i was on it waiting for the ride to start. my groin in pain and having to just bare it. then the coster continued, had fun but was not worth becoming sterile for lol
Ballcrusher-9000
This will be missed by me. I hope they replace it with a b&m flying coaster.
Rip
Why is it that this used to hurt my legs when I was little but now it doesn't? Shouldn't it be the opposite?
Because your used to it now
Krystal May Perhaps or maybe it's because I've grown. I haven't ridden this since I was 13 (I'm now 16). It could also depend on where you sit. I was 7 when I first rode it and it hurt so bad.
Well you don't sit on the ride you stand
Krystal May I know that!!!!
Then why did you say "It could also depend where you sit."
I went to cedar point I went on the dragon 🐉
You put Raptor in the description. Looking at the comments, I'm kinda glad I didn't ride this.
Love it but hurts my legs :(
R.I.P. mantis
Rougarou is fun tho
Jaacob Bauman Mantis was a bad roller coaster that no one really misses
Is it true that the water has huge catfish
They're carp
Just saying cus I'm a fisherman
Everything athletic awe cause my brother told me they were catfish
Bye mantis too short to ride the day i come back im tall enough its not ther
At least Rougarou is here i
