    Car of the moment! Car of the the year? The 2019 Porsche 992 Carrera 4S continues to cause quite the stir, upsetting the purists with its turbocharged power plant, confusing the fans with its turbo engine but no turbo badging, and exciting the drivers by providing even greater performance and every day usability! Today Craig takes a deeper look at a car which one way or another, will one day be defined as a classic.

    The Porsche 992 is the internal designation for the eighth generation of the rear engine sports car produced by the German automobile manufacturer Porsche. It was officially introduced at the Porsche Experience Center, Los Angeles on November 27, 2018. It launched in European markets in early 2019.
    The 992 uses rack-and-pinion steering and has a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. The 992 has wide rear-wheel arches which will be a part of every model in the 992 lineage (a change only found on variants of the 911 previously) along with 19-inch wheels.
    Compared to its predecessor, the 992 is 45 mm (1.8 in) wider and now uses aluminium body panels. The 992 also has a new rear bumper with larger exhaust tips than its predecessor. The front of the car is designed to mimic the appearance of an early 911 in a modern fashion. 992 models have electrical pop-out door handles, a retractable rear spoiler (for specific models only) and LED headlights. All models also feature a full-length rear light bar. The interior also has received significant changes including a straighter dashboard which harks back to the shape of the dash board used on the classic 911. The instrument cluster consists of two 7-inch digital displays and an analogue tachometer.
    The engines have piezo injection, a revised intake system, and-in some markets under Euro-6 regulations-have engine particulate filters. The only available transmission is an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK).
    Standard equipment includes a 10.9-inch display with Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and navigation system, and driver assistance systems including collision detection with braking intervention. A Wet Mode feature is also introduced on the 992 which uses acoustic sensors on the wheel wells to detect wet pavement and adjusts the stability control, the rear wing position, and gearbox responsiveness to keep the car stable.
    Optional equipment includes adaptive cruise control, night vision, automatic parking, and sports suspension which lowers the car by 10 mm (0.4 in). A Sport Chrono package is also available on all models and features an overboost function that provides increased performance for 20 seconds. 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration times are decreased by 0.2 second.
    The first models to debut in the 992 lineage were the Carrera S and Carrera 4S in November 2018, displayed at the 2018 LA Auto Show. Both of the models are powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-6 engine. The Carrera S and Carrera 4S Cabriolet followed in January 2019.

    570S/GT is full on super car , the 992 in this guise is GT car, u need to be in a Porsche GT3 /RS to match the driving experience of the McLaren. Currently own a McLaren and Porsche, nothing wrong with 992 C4S at all , they are not just not direct competitors.

      992 4s does 0-60mph in 3.0 sec which is truly impressive considering the fact that theyre not comparable

    • @brentpowell7889
      @brentpowell7889 5 лет назад +1

      Hi Mars , you can’t compare cars just because of a 0-60 mph time , or even the top speed, number of gears, seats etc etc , these don’t make make cars comparable.
      What makes a car comparable or different from each other isn’t just the looks either , it’s the steering, the ride , handling the brake feel etc
      Have a read of this months EVO, magazine , they review the Porsche’s 992 against a 570 GT, AM Vantage, Audi V10, Lotus Evora.
      Porsche quote a 0-60mph 3.6 , if it can do 3.0 then great , however that doesn’t leave the Porsche turbo , turbo s much room to improve acceleration times over the 4S, when they eventually revive.
      The turbo will need to crack 60 mph in 2.7 and the Turbo S 2.5,m approximately, if they can then that’s great 😁.

    • @TheCarDiaries
      @TheCarDiaries  5 лет назад +1

      Hi James, no, its a full 20 centimetres forwards, so essentially almost a foot! Big difference to the driving balance, and appears to be something they have taken/learnt from the 991 RSR race cars which moved to a full on mid engine position with the motor mounted in front of the rear axle. Times are a'changing... - Matt

    • @Dafuq-v8j
      @Dafuq-v8j 5 лет назад +1

      Engine is in the same position but the motor mount location has moved.
      Copied from Road and Track magazine
      “To better control the movement of the flat-six hanging behind the rear wheels, the 992 moves the engine mounts forward 6.6 inches. Previously, the mounts were at the very back of the engine. The new placement provides a stiffer link between the engine and transmission and holds the engine in place more firmly during quick transitions and high-g maneuvers. Passive mounts are standard; active mounts remain optional”

    Waaaayyyyy to much unnecessary electronic nonsense on this car. The silly pop out door handles will be the first thing to stop working. Next will be the electric shaver transmission lever. The dopey dial on the steering wheel will go next. And fake exhaust tips? What's up with that Porsche. Even Mazda puts real dual exhaust tips on the Mazda3. Porsche could not even fix Nick Murray's Porsche twice. They had to do two buybacks because not even Porsche can fix a 911. Way to complicated.
