    Most useless mod ever, but glad some people think they have invented hot water

      Waiting with baited breath for part 2 where you explain why?
      In the meantime... enjoy the pin of shame.

      @davidb3925 Yamaha: We spend millions on sound acoustic for stock exhaust, spend hours and hours to fine tune the sound, design 1.5 chamber to eliminate background noise
      David shed warrior: I know better than Japanese engineers, hold my beer I have spare time to do stupid video

      @Geo_Okami 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
      Someone got sucked in by the marketing BS. Explain then, if Yamaha's exhaust is so good, why is it that they offer the akrapovic as a standard accessory?
      By your reasoning the entire aftermarket exhaust industry shouldn't exist.

    hi, great job, could you make a video while you use the bike? I would like to hear the shifting sound. Thank you

    • @davidb3925
      @davidb3925  Год назад

      Hmmm. I probably should try and record the sound when riding. It's pretty good from my perspective when riding. It's about as deep as a triple can be. Even the missus stated that it was really loud in a 2 lane wide road tunnel when she was in the car behind me.

    I've seen videos of someone gutting a Multistrada exhaust. They cut the box open and gutted it, then welded it back together all neat and tidy. You did a good job though

    • @davidb3925
      @davidb3925  Год назад

      Back in the 90's when the VTR1000 had just been released we were all putting open pipes on our big twins (I had a TRX850) I ran into a guy who's VTR1000 sounded a lot louder than it should have. He'd even been pulled over by the cops and they couldn't tell that it wasn't stock because it was actually the stock exhaust so they had to let him go.
      This guys welding skills were such that even though he had cut the exhaust open and removed half the wadding and welded it back up it looked like it hadn't been touched at all.
      Needless to say it was something I always wanted to emulate. Unfortunately the coatings and terrible welds that they put on the stock yamaha exhaust are so bad that there is no way you could cut and re-weld it and still make it look stock.

    This is such a cool mod.
    Would you happen to have your printed template files available anywhere for others wanting to do this mod, if not any chance you could provide them?

    • @davidb3925

      These were the main ones for drilling the final holes.
      www.thingiverse.com/thing:6817359
      The ones to help with the initial gutting of the exhaust aren't helpful because they were wrong and I don't have the measurements needed to correct them. These will do the job though

    how does it change the sound? Did you have to get your ECU re-flashed to match higher flow?

    • @davidb3925
      @davidb3925  2 месяца назад +2

      It changes the sound a lot. It's actually quite loud and quite a deep tone at that.
      If you maintain the o2 sensor with this model (and newer models) then the ECU will self tune the fuel maps. No ecu flash needed.
      However if you look at the other videos in this channel you can learn about flashing these bikes.

    Nice outcome. How did you make the outer facia panels from sheet? Do you have any templates or models that could make it easier for me? Cheers

      Just clocked that they're still the standard facias.... Nevermind 😂

      Finished mine a while ago now. Turned an aluminium bung with a centre hole to fit the original pipes and guide the hole saw, saved a lot of time. Used two 45 degree stainless bends off ebay for the new pipes. The leg lengths of the pipes were more than enough

    why not just cut the whole top off the muffler on the rear side and remove the tubes completely. re weld back together.

    • @davidb3925
      @davidb3925  6 месяцев назад

      That requires the ability to weld stainless and given the yellow coating yamaha has on the exhaust that weld is going to be shiny and it's going to look obvious. This is a stealth mod. A cop won't visually notice the difference. I've had fellow mt 09 gen 3 riders struggle to work out why the stock exhaust sounds different when it looks totally stock.

    • @bille.334
      @bille.334 6 месяцев назад +1

      @davidb3925 sorry, I don't live in state that isn't free. No inspections, no rules about exhaust noise or emissions. And I have seen them cut and welded, you would never know if someone didn't tell you or you didn't hear it.

    • @davidb3925
      @davidb3925  Год назад +4

      1. more than 2 times the price.
      2. Sticks out the side and ruins the clean lines of the bike.
      3. Wrong tone. It's too buzzy.
      4. Looks cheap compared to other exhausts
      5. Will get me defected by the cops for excessive noise.
      At least with this mod I can claim that the cops hearing must be a bit off because it's the stock exhaust.

    • @kangacrew540
      @kangacrew540 Год назад

      Well done. Tickets to you and you keep the stock exhaust that has the best sound just not deep enough. Really it's designed remarkably well and a feat in its self. Now come do mine haha.

  • @WorksopGimp

    should have just welded the pipe to the cosmetic plate some exhaust paste then re rivet

    • @davidb3925
      @davidb3925  Год назад +1

      That's an option but one of the main requirements was that the flow be the equivalent of a single 50mm exhaust.
      Also I wanted the opportunity to modify it again If I need to.
      Welding to the cosmetic plates is a one shot only exercise.
