Been looking forward to this EP and it delivers BIGTIME. I was familiar with the songs Flesh From Bone and Upon Their Cross before I heard the EP. Both songs kick ass as does the entire EP. Screaming Always, Gato Negro and Let The World Burn are all great songs as well. Phil and Bobby are a killer guitar duo. I'm super stoked to hear more from Vio-Lence.

I just gave this EP a listen. I happen to really like this EP which has a huge Slayer vibe. Nothing that Vio-Lence does will ever top Eternal Nightmare though. That's one of my favorite thrash albums.

I can't understand why is there even an issue about the band not bringing in extremely new elements or getting more "progy" in a way. Vio - lence were never about this, even in their golden era (of 2 first LP's). They have a vocalist with personallity-attitude and a love or hate tone and way if singing. They are masters of guitar riffing, combining speed and aggresion with groove and heaviness. They got loved by all of us through delivering a surgicaly composed/performed thrash with unique ferocity and "street" vibe. Afterall they have always been more technical than your typical thrash band, in a way that adds to the essence of the songs, not to show off or to be considered a "tech" band. Vio - lence have played with their own rules in terms of style, since the beginning of their career, and they tried to perfect that. So why trying to be a kind or a whole differnt band now?
Adding the fact that they haven't put out anything new for almost 30years, gives one more reason not just for the fans, but for themselves to find again their basis and steps in this new re-start. Let us not forget that they have 2 new members and that demands also an effort there despite the fact that they are both very experienced musicians.
I remember when Cirith Ungol came back recently from the same time of abscence, delivering an LP with no surprises, that sounded exactly like the band we knew but in a creative and relevant way, the bands fans were more than pleased with the whole turning of things and no one argued about expecting them to return playing a different or more modern style.
About the new songs, I agree with you in general, esp when it comes to the strong elements/moments of the EP. For me there are 3 things I don't like here, the absence of backing vocals (gang vox style) that are defining for their sound, the tone and production of drums/cymbals, and last, the general vibe that is somewhat "lower" in terms of nerve and
energy, esp if compared with the first two LP's (I'm not bitcing about it, I know the years pass).
Thank you for the great review and for sharing it with us, and sorry for the extend of my comment, peace to all.
