Thank you. Not nearly enough people out there supporting Sony. Too many haters because they don't like the fact that Sony more than just compares to other flagships out there. If Sony wanted to go full power-user mode and make a phone with better specs then anyone else, they could. Much too many people don't realize they make all their phones with practical things in mind, not to flex.
Hello from Xperia 1! This device is truly AMAZING. I'm trying to improve my use of manual mode and really the quality is astounding. Can't be compared to Sammy or whatever. Sony Xperia quality can't be denied.
Well, Sony's awesomness is only noticed by the professionals and none-casual people. Take camera for instance, it has manual mode that is not understandable by causual people and hence they start to hate without realizing how far a Sony camera is in term of quality since it use the best quality camera hardware. The second thing is the display while it is confirmed and most people know that Sony was the only one to beat Note9's screen with Xperia XZ3, there are still haters who don't accept this fact but who cares about them? They should keep hating and hating until one day they realize. Also, why all the hype for that fancy night mode? Any Xperia owner who understands well how to use manual mode know damn well that they can do the same or maybe better because I already tried against some night modes braggers.

Manrique Molina The note 10+ is a much better phone than the Sony he didn’t make a mistake the no 10+ has a decent sound the Sony Xperia has the worst sound I’ve ever heard on the phone sunny should be embarrassed they did a lot of things right on this phone but they really messed up on the sound
@Ashton Mitchl ummm XA2 Ultra doesn't have a full Gyroscope. So it wasn't the ultimate best for me, but it worked well, I like front flash. Incredibly slow camera though.
Did u try game enhancer app to activate 120hz for gaming, use release ram and performance preference u'll get 120 refresh rate for games that supports 120fps
Hell yeah! Double Focus sliders for some live bokeh video effect from CinemaPro app? Show us some of that indeed. Also, if I understood correctly, one can make some impressive 21:9 and 16:9 autoHDR photos from CinemaPRO app with that "take a photo" button below. That would be great to see also. 😏
Loved both videos. I haven't had a flagship Xperia since Z1 and Z2 but I loved both of those tremendously. Just recently picked up the Xperia 1 because of an insane deal I couldn't pass up and I'm loving every second of it your review pretty much hours all the points to the head. Beautiful display, speakers sound great and are loud. Battery life hasn't been an issue at all. Fingerprint scanner is iffy at times true but that's really my only dissatisfied part I've come across. I'm coming from the note 8 and was noticing battery issues on it was my main reason for looking into a new device. Among being super excited Sony released this beauty. But all in all Xperia phones have always surprised me in build quality and longevity, they just feel excellent and I can usually go about 2 days before needing a charge. Plus who else had a gorgeous purple phone like Sony has? It's an amazing phone, thank for making such an excellent review!
The build quality og Sony phones Are AMAZING! I had the Xperia XZ2 before the Xperia 1 now, I had it for a year, and my son would walk around and chew on it and throw it around, and it would NEVER break, not a single bump or crack or anything on it! I feel like the Xperia 1 isn't as good, and it's already cracked up a bit on the bottom og the back panel, but that's easily fixed om the Next model hopefully

Thank you for being one of the few to show some appreciation towards Sony smartphones! In a market saturated with Samsungs and Iphones this comes as a breath of fresh air and a good review showing the pros and cons and not marketing other devices to devalue this one. Watching this on my Xperia XZ anf can't wait to get this one or the xperia 2. Congratulations on your videos!
I just watched MKBHD give a quick review of the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+. Seems like Samsung jumped on the no headphone jack band wagon. Note 10 uses 1080p? And the Note 10+ uses 1440 (I can somewhat accept that). 3500 mh battery on the 10+? But no 4K. So much up talk about that device, but nothing about the Xperia 1 (i call it X1). Oh well. enough ranting on over hyped Galaxies. The X1 is by far a sweet device. A beautiful 4K HDR OLED display, gorgeous design, awesome camera (I mean seriously, the Alpha team threw it the phone. What the hell, might as well. One of the best, if not the best mirrorless cameras out there). This phone is by far on top of its game and for the price compared to the new Galaxy Notes, it's actually cheaper for way better quality phone. Awesome review!!! I really like how you divide the videos (the cons and pros), research other You Tubers on their opinion and not just jump on the "bash the Xperia bandwagon" like they do. And yes!!! I'm watching your video on my XZ2. Go Sony!!!!!
I don t see in wich world Xperia 1 come on top Note 10+. Look at how quickly they made a 3D scan with the Note way faster and reliable than sony software

Cracking 2 part video! Been a Sony Xperia nut for near nealy 10 years. Had my XZ Premium for nearly 3 years and only upgrading to the Xperia 1 because the buttons on the right hand side (power and volume up) are starting to fail. But after 3 years and god knows how many presses, I'm happy to put it out to pasture! Cant wait to get my hands on the Xperia 1!
I owned Xperia Z, Z Ultra, Z5 and just bought Xperia 1. I love it's UI. It's very simple, yet looks mature. I can instantly learn how to use an Xperia without much hassle.
I've been a Sony user since I had a Sony MP3-player. Neat little device which worked marvelous. Looking forward to my smartphone upgrade to an Xperia 1 soon.
thanks Dude! been a Sony phone user since 2000... ( had a Sony CMD Z5 back then and i still have it today) had the Xperia S... the Z1... Z5... XZ1... and now had the Xperia 1 since July 2019... you cannot beat Sony design or attention to detail... Apply and the rest really are not in the same league... its just a real shame Sony sales are so small compared to other lesser but better marketed devices... i wish all my fellow Sony fans the best... my Network (EE) is letting me upgrade my Xperia 1 to an Xperia 1 Mark II in July this year... i am sooo hyped! thanks for all the honest and unbiased quality Sony content!

The best thing about the Xperia 1 Mk1 as of 2022 is that it is the cheapest second hand phone on the Filmic Pro list of 10-bit log capable cameras. Its also one of the very few phones that not only shoots 10 bit video, but also displays it via a 10-bit screen. Finally, the Xperia 1 Mk 1 is fast enough to display a full RGB parade in Filmic pro at the same time as shooting 10 bit 4K video and encoded as HEVC. Even better, it does 10 bit video on all three cameras. For content producers, that's pretty huge given the low second hand price (and especially because most Xperia 1 phones on the second hand market still contain perfect batteries because of the BatteryCare feature!). This phone not only replaces my Sony Alpha 7x FF camera as my 'casual snaps' device, but it also replaces my BlackMagic cinema camera as my 'casual 4K, 10bit log video camera' (unbelievable that that's even a thing!). Oh, and if you are a content creator, don't forget to put the screen into 'creator' mode for accurate color rendition. Only slight downside; the camera2 API mentioned by WhatGear has come out since this video, and RAW is now supported on openCamera/Camera-FV5 (and others but those are the only two I have used), but only for the main camera. Sony do not support RAW via the Camera2 API on the tele nor wide. you can see this on the 'Camera2 Probe' app (free on Play store).
Just ordered my Xperia 1 after watching your vids, after researching I recon it'll help with my own filming, really getting excited about the whole phone!
Sony built quality is top5. I used Sony phones since 2004, over years I switched to Nokia, Samsung, iPhone and even Xiaomi. Bought back a Sony. At work I use a wide range of phones, and discovered things that none of the reviewers point out, because they actually just present some specs and camera usage. For example if you have 2 phone dialers installed on Pixel3a, every time you want to make a call from a shortcut pined on home screen it will ask you which dialer to use. Happens only on this device. My XZ3 test of time: 2 years, battery holds as in first day. Dropped on concrete, no problem. Taking photos under salty waters without any covers, no problem. Having the same picture as background, no screen burn. Battery life 1.5 days in average using, 2 days + in texting and calling scenarios, with a QHD display and 3300 mAh battery. Sound quality is better than on Samsung or Apple using the same headphones. No big software bugs in general as on Pixel 3a for example. I hate some things like fingerprint on the back, camera on auto is not that great, an old Lumia 950 is much better on auto. Good glass quality, but attracts small scratches only by put it in you pocket. Also, the lack of fancy covers / accessories like on Samsungs or iPhones from Mozo or other makers is something that I miss. PS. Wireless charging is useful in the car, at the office or even at home, not because we are lazy people, but because it's more comfortable to just put the device on the pad than plug a cable.

Hi people! Owner of Xperia xa2 ultra. Great screen, specially under the daylight, its quality very close to oled's. Sounds great and loud even it has a single speaker. Great music quality and loudness through 30€ Sony headset with jack. Big phone and heavy. But handy thanks to Sony's UI fluency and Sony Assist application. Excellent camera. One main which is strong in darkness (manual with hdr photos and 4k videos with 120fps in 720p video). Double selfie camera with flash (one for face focus and one with wide angle). Last but not least battery endurance and quality thanks to Sony's battery management (battery care, stamina etc). Built quality, beautiful design (blue color). I'm a Sony user for the last 15 years and never regretted. I can imagine how great Xperia 1 and 5 going to be.
My next phone will be an Xperia if Sony will further utilize their divisions more to make their phone well-rounded. They should be the best in the market with all those expertise. From Alpha's cameras, Bravia's screen, and Sony audio.
Hey guys, i know most of you spend great times with your xperias, not trying to argue with you, but take a look at my loooong history with these devices. Just wanna even out those "greatest-device-quality" comments: xperia p - no issues xperia z - yellow spots on the display xperia z2 - yellow spots on the display, broken port cover that pulled off xperia z3 - yellow spots on the display, back glass pull off, overheating xperia z5 - yellow spots on the display, had to replace camera (very blurry sides), motherboard (overheating), fingerprint reader (due to very low recognition rate) xz - no issues, other than overheating and battery xz1 - no issues, my favorite xperia by far xz2 premium - antiglare camera coating got off (that's on $1,200 phone those days), that does not fall under warranty, despite there are numerous other reports; proximity sensor bugs; fingerprint reader slow performance. All of these devices were always purchased in the very official Sony stores. All in all, I wish they could have had better customer support and warranty service, if they can't be consistent with the device quality. Now the upcoming Xperia 1 mark II will cost around $1,200-1,400 here is Russia, which looks crazy amount of money for this kind of risks you may have.
Glad this guy did a proper review of the phone and hsowed the features properly. Based on this video I actually have ordered a Xperia 1. Was Android User until 2016 when I went to iPhone 7 Plus. But having seen the latest Apple Launch I can only say Apple have done nothing new and innovative for the price they are charging. Ordered the Xperia 1 brand new from GiffGaff UK as of 14/09/2019 for £649. I am getting £225 for my Iphone 7Plus so Xperia 1 is costing me £424.00 plus £35 for the SCTI30 Case from Amazon prime.

Xperia is the great mobile and sony always come up with something new and rest adapt it and launch it in there new flagship mobile. And mark 2 will be the boom in photography sound gaming and with new features as always. Do make a new video for mark 2 when you get hands on it.
This and LG's flagships are the best for camera and video pros with their excellent manual modes. Sony is just missing the headphone jack and better dac and amp.

about build quality, yes i can testify to that i have XperiaRay, S, Z, Z1, and now i still using XZ, and they're awesome ! esp my XZ, i dropped it couple of time, and its still working ! the water proofing is great in its 3rd year, i can still wash it with soap water, submerged it in pool, and its still functioning very well
Using the j9110 now and loving it. The battery care feature is much better now as you can set custom times from the start and not worry about stressing the battery the first time until it learns your habits. Leading the way sony 👍 😍

Yes! Finally! I see all those reviewers hating on xperia devices just because they are not "popular" so they think there must be something wrong with it and nitpick. I had an original Xperia ZL for five years and it is still alive. Now I use an XZ2, for a year now. In my experience I would say xperias are the best all around smartphones with great camera and music capabilities. They really stand the test of time. #specsdoesnotmatter
I had all Sony flagships and Premium phones, and some Compact phones. Now I have XPERIA 1 and XPERIA XZ2 Premium. And I am not going to give up on XPERIA XZ2 Premium because of camera that is so great in low light. XPERIA 1 has better camera overall but XPERIA XZ2 Premium has better camera in true low light (much brighter). So, whoever says that Sony has bad camera on phones didn't use all Sony phones (Z5 Compact, Z5, Z5 Premium had faulty camera, X Performance and XZ had bad camera).

Sony phones most underrated phones. First phone to have waterproof and dust was sony before apple and samsung. Sony Xz premium first 4k and slowmo video recording phone before apple and samsung again. Bad advertising in uk that people dont know much about it. Ok for me because I can always get good contract deals on newest sony phone which are half price compared to the apple and samsungs. I get the latest sony which is better then the others so thanks sony for lack of advertising its working great for me.👍

Cracking 2 part video! Been a Sony Xperia nut for near nealy 10 years. Had my XZ Premium for nearly 3 years and only upgrading to the Xperia 1 because the buttons on the right hand side (power and volume up) are starting to fail. But after 3 years and god knows how many presses, I'm happy to put it out to pasture! Cant wait to get my hands on the Xperia 1!
I owned Xperia Z, Z Ultra, Z5 and just bought Xperia 1. I love it's UI. It's very simple, yet looks mature. I can instantly learn how to use an Xperia without much hassle.
I've been a Sony user since I had a Sony MP3-player. Neat little device which worked marvelous. Looking forward to my smartphone upgrade to an Xperia 1 soon.

been a Sony phone user since 2000... ( had a Sony CMD Z5 back then and i still have it today) had the Xperia S... the Z1... Z5... XZ1... and now had the Xperia 1 since July 2019... you cannot beat Sony design or attention to detail... Apply and the rest really are not in the same league... its just a real shame Sony sales are so small compared to other lesser but better marketed devices... i wish all my fellow Sony fans the best... my Network (EE) is letting me upgrade my Xperia 1 to an Xperia 1 Mark II in July this year... i am sooo hyped!

Try to make a video comparison of older flagships. Like for example s8 vs ip8 vs Xz premium/XZ1. To test the long term quality. :)
The best thing about the Xperia 1 Mk1 as of 2022 is that it is the cheapest second hand phone on the Filmic Pro list of 10-bit log capable cameras. Its also one of the very few phones that not only shoots 10 bit video, but also displays it via a 10-bit screen. Finally, the Xperia 1 Mk 1 is fast enough to display a full RGB parade in Filmic pro at the same time as shooting 10 bit 4K video and encoded as HEVC. Even better, it does 10 bit video on all three cameras. For content producers, that's pretty huge given the low second hand price (and especially because most Xperia 1 phones on the second hand market still contain perfect batteries because of the BatteryCare feature!).
This phone not only replaces my Sony Alpha 7x FF camera as my 'casual snaps' device, but it also replaces my BlackMagic cinema camera as my 'casual 4K, 10bit log video camera' (unbelievable that that's even a thing!).
Oh, and if you are a content creator, don't forget to put the screen into 'creator' mode for accurate color rendition.
Only slight downside; the camera2 API mentioned by WhatGear has come out since this video, and RAW is now supported on openCamera/Camera-FV5 (and others but those are the only two I have used), but only for the main camera. Sony do not support RAW via the Camera2 API on the tele nor wide. you can see this on the 'Camera2 Probe' app (free on Play store).

Sony built quality is top5. I used Sony phones since 2004, over years I switched to Nokia, Samsung, iPhone and even Xiaomi. Bought back a Sony. At work I use a wide range of phones, and discovered things that none of the reviewers point out, because they actually just present some specs and camera usage. For example if you have 2 phone dialers installed on Pixel3a, every time you want to make a call from a shortcut pined on home screen it will ask you which dialer to use. Happens only on this device.
My XZ3 test of time: 2 years, battery holds as in first day. Dropped on concrete, no problem. Taking photos under salty waters without any covers, no problem. Having the same picture as background, no screen burn. Battery life 1.5 days in average using, 2 days + in texting and calling scenarios, with a QHD display and 3300 mAh battery. Sound quality is better than on Samsung or Apple using the same headphones. No big software bugs in general as on Pixel 3a for example. I hate some things like fingerprint on the back, camera on auto is not that great, an old Lumia 950 is much better on auto. Good glass quality, but attracts small scratches only by put it in you pocket. Also, the lack of fancy covers / accessories like on Samsungs or iPhones from Mozo or other makers is something that I miss.
PS. Wireless charging is useful in the car, at the office or even at home, not because we are lazy people, but because it's more comfortable to just put the device on the pad than plug a cable.

Hi people! Owner of Xperia xa2 ultra. Great screen, specially under the daylight, its quality very close to oled's. Sounds great and loud even it has a single speaker. Great music quality and loudness through 30€ Sony headset with jack. Big phone and heavy. But handy thanks to Sony's UI fluency and Sony Assist application. Excellent camera. One main which is strong in darkness (manual with hdr photos and 4k videos with 120fps in 720p video). Double selfie camera with flash (one for face focus and one with wide angle).
Last but not least battery endurance and quality thanks to Sony's battery management (battery care, stamina etc).
Built quality, beautiful design (blue color).
I'm a Sony user for the last 15 years and never regretted. I can imagine how great Xperia 1 and 5 going to be.
My next phone will be an Xperia if Sony will further utilize their divisions more to make their phone well-rounded.
They should be the best in the market with all those expertise. From Alpha's cameras, Bravia's screen, and Sony audio.
Love the phone, it's great. Only complain might be slightly about the camera at night. Everything else is great

Hey guys, i know most of you spend great times with your xperias, not trying to argue with you, but take a look at my loooong history with these devices. Just wanna even out those "greatest-device-quality" comments:
xperia p - no issues
xperia z - yellow spots on the display
xperia z2 - yellow spots on the display, broken port cover that pulled off
xperia z3 - yellow spots on the display, back glass pull off, overheating
xperia z5 - yellow spots on the display, had to replace camera (very blurry sides), motherboard (overheating), fingerprint reader (due to very low recognition rate)
xz - no issues, other than overheating and battery
xz1 - no issues, my favorite xperia by far
xz2 premium - antiglare camera coating got off (that's on $1,200 phone those days), that does not fall under warranty, despite there are numerous other reports; proximity sensor bugs; fingerprint reader slow performance.
All of these devices were always purchased in the very official Sony stores.
All in all, I wish they could have had better customer support and warranty service, if they can't be consistent with the device quality.
Now the upcoming Xperia 1 mark II will cost around $1,200-1,400 here is Russia, which looks crazy amount of money for this kind of risks you may have.
Glad this guy did a proper review of the phone and hsowed the features properly. Based on this video I actually have ordered a Xperia 1. Was Android User until 2016 when I went to iPhone 7 Plus. But having seen the latest Apple Launch I can only say Apple have done nothing new and innovative for the price they are charging. Ordered the Xperia 1 brand new from GiffGaff UK as of 14/09/2019 for £649. I am getting £225 for my Iphone 7Plus so Xperia 1 is costing me £424.00 plus £35 for the SCTI30 Case from Amazon prime.

Xperia is the great mobile and sony always come up with something new and rest adapt it and launch it in there new flagship mobile. And mark 2 will be the boom in photography sound gaming and with new features as always. Do make a new video for mark 2 when you get hands on it.

about build quality, yes i can testify to that
i have XperiaRay, S, Z, Z1, and now i still using XZ, and they're awesome ! esp my XZ, i dropped it couple of time, and its still working ! the water proofing is great
in its 3rd year, i can still wash it with soap water, submerged it in pool, and its still functioning very well
Using the j9110 now and loving it. The battery care feature is much better now as you can set custom times from the start and not worry about stressing the battery the first time until it learns your habits. Leading the way sony 👍 😍

Yes! Finally! I see all those reviewers hating on xperia devices just because they are not "popular" so they think there must be something wrong with it and nitpick. I had an original Xperia ZL for five years and it is still alive. Now I use an XZ2, for a year now. In my experience I would say xperias are the best all around smartphones with great camera and music capabilities. They really stand the test of time.

I had all Sony flagships and Premium phones, and some Compact phones. Now I have XPERIA 1 and XPERIA XZ2 Premium. And I am not going to give up on XPERIA XZ2 Premium because of camera that is so great in low light. XPERIA 1 has better camera overall but XPERIA XZ2 Premium has better camera in true low light (much brighter). So, whoever says that Sony has bad camera on phones didn't use all Sony phones (Z5 Compact, Z5, Z5 Premium had faulty camera, X Performance and XZ had bad camera).
The build quality is the best...
And the battery care on the xperia devices are awesome... Is best that all manufacturers need to adapt

Sony phones most underrated phones. First phone to have waterproof and dust was sony before apple and samsung. Sony Xz premium first 4k and slowmo video recording phone before apple and samsung again. Bad advertising in uk that people dont know much about it. Ok for me because I can always get good contract deals on newest sony phone which are half price compared to the apple and samsungs. I get the latest sony which is better then the others so thanks sony for lack of advertising its working great for me.👍
I love the form factor and design of Sony xperia 5. I was in the middle of consideration of buying it for my daily usage. I use both android and IOS device, now im on iphone xs. Do you think i will regret from swapping from iphone xs to xperia 5?
