When I visited Phuket years ago in 2018 with my wife and kids. That was definitely a place where I felt like I could live. The weather, the scenery, and the extremely low cost of living were all very positive factors. But you are right about the women LMAO. Def a place where you might want to bring your own sand to the beach.

Haitian/Dominican is a never ending conflict. The reality is, the dominicans and haitians are two groups of black people that are continuing the colonial wars of their former masters (spain/france)..

New subie here bro. Was born n raised in the Philippines, moved to NYC (south bronx) in my late teens. Recently moved to south carolina for better weather and cheaper cost of living. Im a u.s military vet getting my $ from the VA, currently working for the federal govt. Paid my house right off. Im thinking of renting it out, take a sick leave and maybe go back home to the motherland stay for a whole month or 2 and see how the vibe goes.

You are on point with your talking points. I rock with you 100%. I've been to many Latin countries and never had a problem BUT as you said, to live in some of these places, to be on guard to the level you have to be 24x7 is not living. To ME as well. That whole no dar papaya thing is fine if you want to be move that way but not everyone does. When I first started going to Colombia it was not in the cycle it is in now. I never felt safer than when I was in Colombia ohhhh 8 years ago. But today there is no way I'd do the things now, that I did back then. It's tough because I really love how Colombia made me feel. I understand politics can be hard to understand:

The conflict is about a water channel being built by haitians at the border that violates a treaty. Haiti is run by gangs. There's no social political order in Haiti. DR wants to resolve the conflict but there's no official authorities running Haiti at the moment.
I am not here to save the world. I have my own problems and family issues to deal with. All I do is carry myself with integrity, be kind, help people with charity work and words of encouragement when I can. My kids and grandkids are going to have to deal with the problems and lifestyle of the future. I am not here to take on all problems. I plan on enjoying the next half of my life. @jamesletswin Oh yeah, that flight is crazy, we stopped in Amsterdam on the way there and Paris on the way back. Are you in Bangkok? Bangkok is just like NY to me son. I'm also looking at purchasing a home in Thailand but I would like things ironed out before taking that flight again fam.
Real estate is not a good investment in Thailand, in my opinion, unless you have a wife or kids. That's why I felt at home in Bangkok because it felt like a second New York. And I haven't been home for 12 years, except for a visit yesterday. But I've been living in Atlanta, Georgia for the last 12 years.

The emerging markets is what's coming next and Asia and Africa will be hot spots very soon fam. Homes in Thailand won't be cheap for too much longer bro. Google Belt and Road map. It's a very simple fix. Move somewhere with an affordable cost of living, considering the money I make. I could live almost anywhere in the world, so that's not a concern for me. I own several properties, so living will always be cheap for me. I love Atlanta and I wouldn’t mine going back in the future but I believe you.

Thanks for watching, Brother. Sosua/Puerto Plata is one of the safest areas in the Dominican Republic, and there is a lot of crime in Santo Domingo like in most other big cities. I just didn't want to live in a place where I had to watch my back all the time. I wanted to live somewhere where I didn't have to worry about all of that.

My Spanish is still a work in progress, but I dedicated four months to the app called Duolingo. One year ago, I dedicated 2-3 hours per day, and I learned a lot of words. My Spanish is still not great, but it's the best it has ever been. Also, talking to my employees and being in the Dominican Republic for a few months, being around the locals.

The Dominican Republic is closing their boarders to Haitians and they are deporting Haitians from their country. That is a big issue. I wanted to visit the DR so I could meet some Haitians there too but this issue really breaks my heart because we are all Israelites God’s chosen people. I don’t care about being safe because to me it’s all about how you carry yourself.
That’s correct but why not just go directly to Haiti? I can’t speak on their issues because I have my own issues I’m dealing with but I just hope they figure things out.

What's up, brother? I settled in Bangkok because Thailand is my main base. I have plans to do a lot of traveling. I typically spend around $60 on electricity per month as I keep my air conditioning running 24/7. The only time I turn it off is when I'm away from home for more than eight hours. I find peace when I'm there.

Retired military man wanting to live abroad……. Single, Financially secure at 100k yr tax free in pension and benefits so I don’t really have to worry about a work force, good health , 100% medical ( if a VA or embassy is near) . I am pretty simple, not flashy but I like nice things so I don’t have to have the biggest place to live. To correct silly compensation assumptions. Most Americans do not make 60K a year. The average American doesn’t make 60K a year, so saying 50-55k a year is nothing now is basically saying the majority of Americans make nothing. If you ever want to know the average income for any location, read the BLS, it’s the government agency that companies have to report pay to. In Atlanta the average salary is not 100K. Just to give substance to the big picture instead of what’s assumed.

Can’t wear jewelry and expensive clothing in DR - when I go I make sure I don’t take anything expensive
You can wear whatever you want at a resort in the Dominican Republic, and I often see guys wearing jewelry in Sosua. However, I wouldn't recommend it. Just make sure to stay within the tourist zone. Personally, I will always dress nicely wherever I go, and if I feel unsafe and can't wear certain clothes, then I don't think I should be there. I feel safe here in Sosua.
How much would you estimate it would cost to visit Thailand and or Phillpenes for a month
it’s very hard to answer that question because I’m not sure where you live or would you consider it fun but I can speak for myself I usually pay 800 to 1300 for a round-trip ticket. while I’m there as a tourist I spend $45-100 per day, depending on what I’m doing for the day. But living there is something totally different. I find myself spending $10 a day.

The guy loved being a security guard catching old ladies shoplifting, loved the US, loved Atlanta, loved his new job as a greeter, big real estate money + made 55k that serves as pocket money for cars, Gucci, cruises + travel every 3 months, had a beautiful amazing wife with children and end up in the DR because it's close to the US and there are beautiful women. What happened to the amazing wife and kids??? The most important things of the story are completely left of the story but we have to hear story about being able to wear jewelry in Thailand but not in the DR.
Something doesn't add up! The story should be: "Why I left my country, my lovely kids and my amazing ex-wife that I still like to call my wife, to end up in countries known as favorite destinations of sex tourists"

Thailand have better infrastructure, less violent crimes, more attractions, more expats, better wifi, better power plants, better food etc….. But this all depends on your individual lifestyle and needs.
