You are my new, wonderful you tube cook. My mom was a Southern cook, but we lived in Iowa. It was only as an adult that I recognized her Southern style. Now I am enjoying watching more and learning more Southern ways and recipes. Thank you so much. I will be tuning in every time I find you.
Miss Lori, I'm a new subscriber. I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am to the Lord for putting one of your videos in front of me a few weeks back. And not just for recipes.. though I love revisiting them because I didn't always pay enough attention when my grandma was teaching me way back when.. But to be honest, I'm bipolar. And going to your channel and just watching your videos calms me in ways that nothing else ever has, especially when I'm feeling overwhelmed or very manic. It's like going home and getting a big hug from my grandma that makes me feel like everything is going to be ok. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my ❤. Rita Sanders
Rita, Lori was sent to me also....right when her channel started...we became sister-friends and love each other to bits. I just LOVE your channel and watching you and Mr. Brown! I get so many great ideas from watching and really love listening to your stories. My husband and I met when I was 13 and have been married for 34 years. I also LOVE your STRONG FAITH!
My mom used to make these. I had dairy allergies so they were made with chicken broth, and I couldn't have eggs, so she used something else. The flour was potato flour, and I loved them. A few years ago, I developed a bread recipe using the water from the potatoes and the leftover mashed taters. I still make it and share the extra loaves . Thank you for sharing your recipe. I will definitely try it.

I adore potato pancakes, I grew up with these as well! Mom was so good at whipping these up on a cold, snowy winter night for supper. My brother and I loved ours with ham and applesauce! YUM!
My mother-in-law was from Va. She taught me to make potatoe pancakes the exact same way as yours! Especially grating the onion! My kids - now all grown with their own families - absolutely love them! Yum!❤️👍🏻
Thank you, Miss Lori. Agreed 😃. Those look scrumptious. My Italian mom would also gently mix in some leftover baked fish or shrimps or scallops or whatever. She’d fry them up in a skillet, and we had those with some baked beans and salad for a delicious meal for our big family. Brought back lots of great memories. Big smile on my face! Thank you so much. Hugs.
Oh yes! I remember these tasty cakes. Mom would do the same thing with sardines and leftover rice. Hey, back in the day their was no room for picky eaters. Thank you Ms. Lori, great recipe. Hello to Mr. Brown, God bless. ❤
Here in PA Dutch country...potato pancakes are made with shredded potatoes. The one from leftover mashed are just potatoes cakes!!!! Both are so yummy!
Oh my! These bring back such WONDERFUL memories! Potato Pancakes shout "Home," for me. They're a comfort food like no other. I KNOW I'll love this recipe, 'cause even though my Mother's were wonderful, she didn't put onion in hers, and I KNOW that onion is gonna take it over the top. Can't WAIT to try this. Thanks so much for this GREAT recipe! God bless.
My mom used to make these also. Whenever we had left over mashed potatoes. It wasn’t very often as I grew up with 5 brothers and 4 sisters. I absolutely loved these. You bring such joyful memories when I watch you cook. Thank you.
Years ago my mom made these when we were kids at home and we always loved them. My grandkids were here a few months ago and I made some for supper. My grandson said he loved them. Lovely to see you Ms Lori. Will have to make some, they look delicious. Thank-you. Hope you and Mr Brown are keeping well. I like what you did with the Cabin for the guests. Take care. Hugs
Family favorite in our house! We don't have mashed taters often but when we do, I always fix double so we have leftovers for tater cakes!!! I thought I was the only one that liked applesauce with them. My husband thinks I'm nuts! Amazing how the simple things just brings a smile!
Mrs.Lori I love these cakes .My granny rest her soul used left over mashed potatoes in her Salmon patties to make them go far ,for a large famiy who loved her cooking . And it was so good .Thank you .love your Indiana friend Genny .. Be safe ,Be Blessed ,Be loved
Sometimes I put a dollop of sour cream on top and sprinkle fried bacon crumbles on top..Never thought of apple sauce or pear butter..can't wait to give that a try.
These were a family favorite growing up! We didn't do mix ins though, we'd form cakes just from the very cold mashed potatoes, dip in flour, and fry. Crispy on outside and creamy in the middle! Served with ketchup
That's look amazing. I always wondered how my Granny made potato patties. That's what she called them. Now I know. They had onions garlic salt and pepper. And sometimes cheddar and jalapeno. Thanks so much ❤ Hope your weekend is peaceful and blessed. All my love always. -Alicia Sue.
This is one of my absolute favorite way to use left over mashpotatos. My favorite is to serve with bacon and lingonberrysauce. Live in Sweden. We make quite a thin pancakebatter and fry in a cast iron pan with little ” holes” that makes seven mini pancaces at once.
I am so going to try making these "tater cakes". That's what we called them growing up. When Mom made them, I could eat my weight in them with no topping added. The onions are what really made them taste special. I remember Mom always telling me to eat my other vegetables, but the "tater cakes" and her cornbread is all I wanted. Thanks for the recipe.
Yum Ms Lori ! Potato pancakes are one of my favorites. I love them with maple syrup with apple sauce on the side. If I don’t shred my own potatoes I always have frozen shredded potatoes , thaw an amount then make them .. thank you for sharing. God Bless & Take Care👍👍😊
I was raised eating these. My mom taught us to shape them like thumbs. We call them croquetas. Yes you can add anything you have to the potatoes. Chicken, Ham anything we had left over. These are so good. I haven’t made these in years. Thank you for the reminder. I will make some for my children and grand kids real soon. I hope you and Mr. Brown are enjoying your Hope cabin. It’s really gorgeous.

TY for sharing this. Just reading your comments alone has made me happier than I have in a bit. Here in the USofA, everything has been so troubling lately, but here there are all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds sharing various names for the same thing. It may seem trivial, like "just potato pancakes", but it's brought a lot of people together with good memories. Makes "the big picture" look a lot more pleasant to me. This isn't some fancy dish that contains exotic, expensive ingredients or needs a bunch of equipment or experienced techniques...just easy to access foods that lend a tasty result, and brings folks together in a happy way. So grateful for this! TC
I am so glad I found your channel!! I am a country cook....never throw out/waste anything. I make potato cakes often!! Left over peas, beans, corn, etc...becomes vegetable soup! And other leftovers become golouh, & leftover cornbread & biscuits go in the freezer to make dressing!! My husband and me live a simple life in Alabama!! I'm a new subscriber and will be looking forward to your next video!!
So, the first time I made them, they fell apart in the pan. 🙁 I forgot the panko. This time they came out just right and i experimented with the size and found that I like them thin and small too! Breakfast is my favorite meal and this has been added to the menu! Thanks Lori!
Good morning Ms Lori, I absolutely love some potato pancakes, they are so so yummy. And this is something my whole family enjoys. So thank you once again for your wonderful videos. God bless and stay safe. Love from Georgia ❤️
Made these out of leftover mashed potatoes from a Costco mashed potato and meatloaf dinner. They were AWESOME! Saved enough to make me a couple of patties but made patties and placed between parchment paper and froze about 8 more for later. So crispy and delicious!
My Mom made potato pancakes a lot !!!!! I love them cold even !!!!!! Got me a big bag of spuds this very day...... so guess what !! Thank you Miss Lori !
**Lori** I was thinking about the toppings you mentioned. The applesauce sounds great and your pear butter is awesome! This time, for breakfast, I'm going to try just the tiniest drizzle of real maple syrup! TFS! I love your family recipes. God bless you and yours and please stay safe! 🌈🌈🌈
My mother made these all the time. I can still taste them. She made them the same way, but she lightly floured them after forming the patties and then fried them. It made them very crispy on the outside. Thanks Lori.
My mom was a depression era cook and she used to make these. It was one of my favorite of her recipes. I think I liked the mashed potatoes leftover and fried better than fresh. As a kid we ate them plain with just some salt sprinkled on them, but when I grew up and made them myself, I usually topped them with sour cream & chives, or sometimes with stewed apples. Yum.
Hey MS Lori, I remember my mama and my daddy making these when we were kids. And yes they would make them with different things in them. And they were so delicious. I still make them for myself once in awhile. I really looked delicious. Thanks for the great video. Take care be safe. God bless you and yours
My mama made these when I was little. When I grew up, my oldest sister taught me to make them with saltine crackers instead of flour and I loved them. If you try it with crackers, don't make sawdust out of them--just crush them into small pieces with your hands. I don't put anything extra in them except chopped onions and an egg. Luscious!!
I’m going to have to make these instead of potato salad out of my left overs. I ordered some pumpkin butter from Raven and their strawberry jalapeño jam. Yum. This is a few months up the road on a Thursday, but have a wonderful weekend! Blessings, Vicki
They look so good, Lori! My Mama made potato pancakes all the time for us, and I have made them often for my family. I love the idea of getting a 2nd meal out of my mashed potatoes with not a lot of extra effort, and they are so yummy. Simple food, but oh, so good!
In my area of NE Pa. there are a lot of Polish people. My "Bachi", grand Mother in polish, what you're making was called potato patties because , she made Polish potato pancakes. They were made with grated potatoes(fine grate) , salt, pepper, egg, a heaping tablespoon of sour cream and flour . Fried in about 1/2 in of hot oil until golden brown. Bachi never threw away left over potatoes either. Her's were made with the potatoes, finely grated onion to taste, salt, pepper, egg and flour. Sometimes she would throw some crumbled bacon in. Fried in butter until golden brown. SO good !
I had leftover potatoes and carrots from a roast, tonight I mashed them together and made patties....delicious with steamed broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Nice to see this..old fashioned but so good...
Lori if you haven’t tried grated Parmesan cheese in it, try it! It’s so delicious. But probably not with a sweet sauce. Thx for sharing your days with us.
I'm 62 and I've never had one of those. I've always wanted to but no matter how much mashed potatoes I cook there's never any left over. Next time I cook some I'm going to hide 2 cups and then I'll get to try these and surprise everybody. LOL God's abundant love, blessings and protection on you and your family 💜👍😎
My momma still makes these and they are the BEST. All she puts into her mashed potatoes is flour and egg. Sprays a little pam or olive oil spray in the pan and That's it! They're not greasy. Just perfect

And other leftovers become golouh, & leftover cornbread & biscuits go in the freezer to make dressing!!
My husband and me live a simple life in Alabama!! I'm a new subscriber and will be looking forward to your next video!!
Debbie, thank you! I'm so blessed to be with like minded people!
God Bless you both,xoxoxo
One of my favorite foods my granny use to make for me ❤
So, the first time I made them, they fell apart in the pan. 🙁 I forgot the panko. This time they came out just right and i experimented with the size and found that I like them thin and small too! Breakfast is my favorite meal and this has been added to the menu! Thanks Lori!
Oh good, I love them, grandma made them all the time
One of my favorite ways to reuse mashed potatoes. Thanks for sharing.
Here in Oklahoma we grew up eating the same thing and I cook like that for my young-ins. Thanks a bunch for your down to earth recipes.
My mom did too. This is the only time I eat with ketsup with potatoes. Fries I eat with mayo. I love you bringing home goodies.
Sounds delicious! Xoxoxo
I love me some potato pancakes! One of my favorites! Great video my friend! 💜
Luscious!!
I made these for my lunch yesterday!! One of my favorites!
I would make them for my kids years ago I love them too. never had them with apple or pear butter but I'm sure going to try it😊.TY 💕
I’m going to have to make these instead of potato salad out of my left overs. I ordered some pumpkin butter from Raven and their strawberry jalapeño jam. Yum. This is a few months up the road on a Thursday, but have a wonderful weekend! Blessings, Vicki
thank you Vickie! Merry Christmas!
I needed a recipe for potato cakes and this is the one I chose to use thank you Ms Lori
Thank you so much
@@WhippoorwillHoller The family loved them!!!!
Thank you for sharing I will be making these from now on! Love it 😍
Bless you two. Love your creativity in recipes. Potato pancakes look yum.
Mom used to make many yrs ago but I've not made in very long time.
My mouth is watering. My mother made these all the time . Blessings to you and Mr. Brown.
My family loves potato pancakes. I make them as a side dish. Thank you for sharing.
Great music; great recipes, and sweet couple.
Those look really good. My Mom made potato candy with leftover potatoes. Thank you for sharing!
We have made potato pancakes forever. My hubby and I still love them.
I'm 62 and I've never had one of those. I've always wanted to but no matter how much mashed potatoes I cook there's never any left over. Next time I cook some I'm going to hide 2 cups and then I'll get to try these and surprise everybody. LOL God's abundant love, blessings and protection on you and your family
💜👍😎
Sour cream is good on them, too!
Using Panko crumbs is a great idea. God bless you, too!
My momma still makes these and they are the BEST. All she puts into her mashed potatoes is flour and egg. Sprays a little pam or olive oil spray in the pan and That's it! They're not greasy. Just perfect
