My dear momma would ask me why you called him Mr Brown and I would tell her possibly because you both worked at school and that’s how the kids would address him. She passed away a year ago yesterday. She enjoyed watching you and your husband. Gunsmoke was still her favorite show but you guys were a close second. Thank you for giving her some joy. She was a wonderful momma. She was 91.

I have prayed and agree with many others on this channel for your daughter's total healing...but may I suggest. Gather family/church members, surround Briannah( if you can), if not just all gather together, join hands, let everyone confess sins silently(mouth movement only) OR let everyone say the Lord's Prayer in unison Matthew 6: 9-13. Lastly,, all take the Lord's supper,,include Briannah if you can. Someone pray for her healing, mentioning the blood of Christ. All thank God for His answer, whatever it may be. If no family willing or able, gather whoever will. Blessings to you and yours.

I loved watching this. My father’s family from Germany settled in the late 1800’s in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia and migrated to Kentucky by WWII. I remember watching quilting bees, skillet cornbread, and knowing my great grandmother as well as my grandmother. They wore bonnets and made me a small one. My aunts made beautiful clothes for me (I was the only girl among the cousins), lucky me. Such strong, talented women. Thanks for bringing these memories to mind. I am going to make your recipes.

My grandmother's grandma made her a bonnet too and when I was a teen in the 70's (Little House on the Prairie time) she brought out her old one to help me copy a pattern off of it. I'm lucky that my grandma had some of her family history recorded in state genealogy history as well as a published book. (And bonus blessing, we even have a digital audio copy of her reading the account...talk about PRECIOUS!) She even gave me a piece of her 1930's feedsack fabric to make a little garment for my toddler back in the early '90's.

Miss Lori I just got an online order from Porter Road Butchers, locally grown in southern Kentucky and Tennessee. The pork they carry is so good, just like I remember from childhood. Pricier but worth it. If someone can splurge a little, the local products are so much better than the grocery store, grass fed beef, etc. and you’re supporting our farmers and ranchers.

One of my go-to casseroles! Infinitely variable. Use about any cut of chicken or pork as you mentioned. To make a one dish meal, I also toss in any vegetables I want to use up and, if there is none in refrig, then grab a package of mixed vegetables or california mix or whatever out of the freezer and toss them still frozen in the rice/broth/seasoning mix. I usually give it an hour in the oven during which I clean the kitchen or just relax.

I’ve never been able to duplicate it because I could never gauge the proper amount of water needed with the condensed soup, to get the rice done just right.. Silly, I know, but for some reason, I struggle with rice. My mom never measured either, so it was a “until it looks right” measurement..
Thanks for shedding light on this “mystery”!

My Mother taught me how to cook, but she would tell me stories of how people loved their cooking so much, this is where they would come to to eat Sunday Dinner. I was glad to hear those stories and more. She had a Special stool that she would have for me to stand on to watch her mix up all those ingredients for Dinner. My mother learned this recipe from a lady from Tennessee. We use them large aluminum roasting pans cause you can make 12 porkchops and five cups of rice. It gets everybody fed, and if you're lucky, there's a porkchop left and some rice for lunch the next day. There's never no desert left, though.

Yep it’s in the oven now. I didn’t have any Lipton soup mix in my pantry so I chopped up some onions I dehydrated this summer and added some extra seasoning with it. I even have a pint of purple hull peas simmering on the stove that I canned this summer. I love this time of year because we get to enjoy the fruits of our hard labor over the summer! Happy Fall y’all! 😃

Ms Lori it looks so good 😊 daddy taught me to cook pork chops and rice in the oven but we put the rice and chops in the bottom of the pan then layer cut onions and a layer of b&b mushrooms then add butter around and good ole Worcestershire sauce and a little salt and pepper. Cover the pan with foil creating a dome and poke some holes in the top spaced around. Then cook on broil. But I have cooked it on 375. I don't recall him calling it a no peek tho. And with the cream of mushroom or cream of chicken I'd add chopped potatoes. Kids liked it and asked for more...lol... Imma have to cook it again sometime soon. Thank you... We raised hogs too when I was a kid. Yepp... Favorite here is pork too..😊 👍

    Ms Lori & Mr Brown,
I just watched a video that you two were sharing a lot of memories during the Covid beginning I think. I can’t see the year on the videos. I have to tell you, you had me in stitches! Some of the stories reminded me of when I was younger. I turned 62 this month and don’t have a lot of memories until something reminds me of early times. Mr Brown mentioned that you were trying to get a little sugar and ended up in the ditch! That very same thing happened to me and my fiancé. Of course, who was the 1st person to get there? Our small town Deputy! Oh the red faces we had when he guessed what was going on! When I was growing up, we didn’t have electricity or water either. In the springtime, we could go across the road and get water from a spring runoff before it would go into the ditch. If it was too dry, we had to go to our little Store in Brinnon and take our old milk cans next to the gas pumps and fill all our jugs up. We lived on the Hood Canal & the Puget Sound in Washington state. Our graduation class in the 8th grade & I got to be Valedictorian. Of course being that there was only six kids in the class, everyone had to be doin something! Our town didn’t have a Junior High School or regular High School and had to go over Mt Walker to the next town. I remember being so scared in the winter because the roads were covered in snow.
I remember camping out in our tent where my brother and I stayed. We had a house, sort of, it was an old old old garage that needed to be torn down, but it was home. There were no bedrooms and that’s why my brother and I had to sleep in the tent. We spent our summers in the water. I remember watching the shooting stars everywhere. We were clearing property and burning stumps the size of a bedroom. When we were hungry, we would go to the rocks and shush oysters or catch Dungeness crab and cook them by way of Roasting them in the hot coals. There was nothing like it! You know Ms Lori, normally when I think about the “Olden days”, it was mostly bad memories but I want to thank you for reminding me that even though we had no money, no plumbing for years, no shower or toilet, you two brought back those Good memories. My mother passed away on January 1st this year and things are going downhill fast. My husband died in May, 2013, and life wasn’t the same anymore. There is One Thing that gets me through the long days & nights is I have the Lord beside me, & inside my heart. I don’t know how things are going to work out but I try to let My Heavenly Father take care of things for me. I Love the Lord, My God, my Counselor, my Creator of the world, maker of all the stars I would watch when sleeping outside & try to count them. If I did not know about Jesus Christ, I know things would be so much worse. That’s how I know he’s here with me. I pray more than I do anything else. When I watch your videos and I feel like we are old friends, that’s Gods Handiwork. I wish I could have sat around the campfire and could hear more stories from you & Mr Brown. Not many people get to do things like that these days.
Thank you both so much for sharing. You made me feel like I was right there with you. I could even feel my eyes burn a bit from the smoke from the fire. I will continue to pray for you and your families. I am mostly alone now, I have been disabled but still get by. As long as I know Christ, I know it won’t matter as long as I live in his way as much as I can and I look forward to eternal life with him. We all have so much to be grateful for, if we only put our Trust in the Lord. Your Christian Values make me so happy to watch and grow with you.
If you ever get to travel from Arkansas to Washington State, avoid Seattle if possible and I will take you on a tour of some of the most Beautiful country you’ve ever seen! It would be my pleasure! God Bless You both. Stay safe and stay with Jesus & all will be fine. Love, Jilli

I have made this casserole for my family for years but instead of cream of mushroom and cream of celery, i used two cans of Cambells French onion soup with the pork chops. The onion soup mix will make it taste about the same but the French onion soup was so easy with one and one half can of water. This was slowly cooked on Sunday while we were at church. Good food on Gods special day. God bless you. I love your podcast.
