You are one of few beautiful men out there who is not afraid to fight for freedom and against social inequality. Keep going and growing and do not listen to hateful comments, but I'm sure you're already wise enough to ignore the ignorant. I cry every time I hear prejudices against ethnic minorities and understand that those who judge need someone else to blame for their misfortunes. I'm fighting day to day with my Polish family abroad who are filled with racial hate. I am no saint and I have had prejudice in the past but to quote you 'knowledge is power, I hope one day everyone will realise we are one human race.
Akala is simply terrific. Let him rule Britain, send Lowkey to take over Washington and this world would be a much better, safer and sane place for the rest of us.
I love this. I live in Britain, there are problems here but all through out this interview I has thinking of my country, Albania, and what he says, for me, are things that are clearly noticed in albania, where few people have everything and so they do not feel obligated to speak against the system for the sake of others. And the poor aren't given the opportunity to speak. every country should have young people with akalas desire. as Im sure many people are knowledgeable but not want to act
; ) I'm sure reading is certainly a big help to being this articulate, can't imagine him being such an eloquent speaker without the use of daily reading.
He actually mentions a subject in the Zeitgeist Addendum documentary A resource based economy, i recommend all to see zeitgeist addendum! Ignorance breeds prejudice and knowlegde brings understanding. 1 people 1 planet 1 love!
its that last bit about complicity which has really inspired me as i thought i couldnt provoke any change at all while still remaining attached to the system. but now i think its more about accepting we're part of the system but can still promote change... akala is such a don!
Thanks for the advice. have recently lost any motivation to read, but this guy Akala has rectified that for me, thankfully. Just out of curiosity, what kind of books do you read/enjoy the most?
Many of the things he says are at arms length for us, as African people to go and read up for ourselves, although the very deep information is hard to find. If our brothers and sisters thought more about their position within society and thought about themselves as spiritual people maybe then we would be a different nation as a whole. We have to educate ourselves and our people ignorance isn't always bliss. Love to our brother Akala, hopefully he will wake many more up.
we need to put him on a bigger stage so more people can hear him. Im white, middleclass and he speaks so much sense it makes me frustrated at the people who arent listening to this message.
one of the best and most realistic speakers I have ever heard. The comment about youths in impoverished Glasgow is not accurate through, police that deal with crime in that area are just as unforgiving and agenda driven.
when i was 14 in school i had a discussion about how i think the world should be equal and how everybody should share resources food, water, materials for shelter, and clothing, my teacher interrupted that conversation and told me to stop speaking nonsence .The phrase she used and i quote was " on a bus, there always has the be a bus driver you cannot have passengers without a driver ". i disagreed , i was then punished for 5 days in "isolation". these people are now educated our children.
Hey mate, hope you're well ... I agree with some of what you're saying ... Although I think it's worth mentioning that there is a pro-men's movement, that is not about gaining power, but about gaining rights, which of course is power but the power to live a full happy life. Do a search on "men's rights" and see what you find. The deeper down that rabbit hole you go, the more you'll be surprised ... :-)
I like you and agree with everything I seen in this comment.Raceism is big in all races and this need to stop.Commented alot so will not get into things because you can see my above comments.
i am a black guy and i've come across institutional racism at school. I came from Kenya my country and the teachers assumed i couldn't speak English and put me in second set which was filled with kids who weren't " smart". My English was fine infact good and it still is, then from there i went to secondary school and there i faced even bigger racism. In my year 9 sats i got a level 6 same as this other white girl, however i had more raw marks than her and guess what...
to educate yourself about everthing.lIt would take hundreds if not more years to do so.I always listened to Rap was born in 78,but like Rapers like TEC and Lowkey and others like them becausae they educate and don't stear kids in the wrong direction.I was on the wrong path in life in and out of jail, and finaly grew up and hope to stay out for good and help do good things for people(of any race or country).Rap played a big part in the way I thought as I grew up and wish these guys were around-
Political books and philosophy will help. Try reading philosophy books on the meaning of life, human behaviour, etc. Research different political ideals such as Marxism, Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, etc. Books that make you question not only yourself but society. Read news articles (from reliable sources!) and look into where people are the happiest and why that may be - for example, Cuba has a lot of poverty, but many are simply happy that they can get healthcare due to Castro's influence.
what happens is in schools this segregation happens to put people in certain places and only those who are either lucky strong minded and highly educated can break out of it. i had problems with that school all the way up to my A levels however i did graduate and i did go to university and am currently studying science lol. still i respect this man he's doing great and no i don't believe there are racial double standards. If you aren't a woman who has suffered sexism don't tell me about it
I agree with Akala if you only agains opprestion against your own people or area you live your not against opprestion at all.I'm a White male and like him am Scotish with Irish also, and agree with most thing people like him TEC,Lowkey and others like them are educateing people about. In some things I think we look at things just a bit differently because of were we look. All races have been slaves and today we all are except for the few rich people.Look at Germany and the lies told about them in -
There is far more variation within races than between them, so can everyone please stop generalising someone's colour to their beliefs and actions?! As Akala states, to be against oppression is to be against ALL oppression, so these arguments over who is to blame is irrelevant, as there is at least one person of ALL colours and creeds responsible, it only makes sense to unite against ALL manifestations of injustice and to work together to spread freedom and equality One Love
i do understand you to an extent however reality is actually we need mixed raced or black role models to speak out so that other working class kids can listen to and hopefully see the world in a different view. Honestly majority of the people wouldn't brand a white person as racist for speaking about racist. it's just unless you've been a pair of shoes you can never really know how it feels to wear it( yes that's a metaphor).
she was promoted to a higher maths set than me while in all dismay i was demoted to a lower set so she was on set 3 and i was at 5, ?? i mean it's clear this is racism, the teachers came up with some weak excuses that she was more hard working during the year etc, but still how does that work ?. Good thing my mother is a master level graduate and she went to school and argued out my case. Other working class mothers wouldn't have time or knowledge to do this or how my schooling was going.
Thanks for the link, I remember I had read this article about a year ago but there isn't any mention of this 68,000 in the report. There is however a report by Hofmeyr which is claiming that the number is 70,000 but this has actually been discredited by most Statisticians who have stated that you are far more likely to be killed in SA if you are non white. I think the term is being confused here as to what a supremacist is, one group killing another group doesn't make them supremacist......
For anybody interested in an academic look at critical race theory from a philosophical perspective, check out this book. "Race and Epistemologies of Ignorance"
makes me laugh how people attack a man lik ethis the world needs more switched on people which he obviously is he aint putting no one down he just sayin he wants the world to run they way it should be its a simple but powerfull message
It doesnt matter what colour I am but im here to comment because You need to see past colour and see a human we cry the same tears have the same blood and all have emotions so see past colour just see each other as brothers fuck segregation
The interviewer is so awkward it's unreal! Akala = the most intelligent rapper to ever set foot in this rap game. Mic Righteous = the most passionate rapper to ever set foot in this rap game.
It's a good article, but you can't assume that because they don't accept an opinion article on politics they won't accept one on humanitarian issues. The Al-Jazeera article is a matter of your own personal perspective, you could be mistaken. It has observations to back up your ideas, but regardless it is still your own perspective, and is not a cast-iron truth. Not publishing that article doesn't draw the same conclusions as them rejecting an article about a humanitarian crisis.
one of the most articulate people in britain...
You are one of few beautiful men out there who is not afraid to fight for freedom and against social inequality. I listen to this guy's interviews more than his music. So intelligent.
I could listen to Akala forever. He is so smart.
how can you not respect this man?? Great speaker
Akala is simply terrific. Let him rule Britain, send Lowkey to take over Washington and this world would be a much better, safer and sane place for the rest of us.
"If you're only against oppression when it affects your people you're not against oppression at all." Wise words.
FANTASTIC SPEAKER, HONEST AND COMPLETELY FAIR WITH HIS HISTORY.. ONLY AN UNEDUCATED PERSON COULD INTERPRET HIM AS A RACIST..
right..
Lol Akala is british Huey Freeman
Needs to grow that fro a bit more though lol.
I love this. People commenting about his great intellect yet not taking in his message !!
; ) I'm sure reading is certainly a big help to being this articulate, can't imagine him being such an eloquent speaker without the use of daily reading.
We need more people like Akala out there
This is an extremely logical intelligent man
I never listened to his music, but damn this guy was on point. Wow

He actually mentions a subject in the Zeitgeist Addendum documentary A resource based economy, i recommend all to see zeitgeist addendum!
Ignorance breeds prejudice and knowlegde brings understanding.

Scientists have proven that this planet can provide enough resources to sustain the life of 100 billion Humans and we are struggling with 7 billion...
Got a lot of respect for Akala on a whole, great rapper and intelligent speaker.
Remember people: Birds of a flevva, flock togevva.
its that last bit about complicity which has really inspired me as i thought i couldnt provoke any change at all while still remaining attached to the system. but now i think its more about accepting we're part of the system but can still promote change... akala is such a don!

Knowledge is power good on you Akala!!

this interview guy is so awkward..not sure why the video is edited this way
So true. It seems like they are not sitting in the same room at the same time, which is weird lol
His intelligence is far beyond my comprehension, I wish I had the capacity to learn 10% of what he knows..
I need to try & send this to Current TV , Communtiy channel & showcase Tv.
The fact that you said that shows the system got you mate
ive never listened so intently to someone speak without there being a peng beat behind it.
Its all about being educated. The more you learn the more your ideas and perception changes.
so much respect for this guy!
we need to put him on a bigger stage so more people can hear him. Im white, middleclass and he speaks so much sense it makes me frustrated at the people who arent listening to this message.
13:45 - 14:12 makes me chuckle every time!
Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. I best keep reading. Knowledge is power, as they say ; )

Has akala ever thought of running for PM? - interesting to see if he is immune to the bureaucracy of it.
Brilliant discussion 9/10 as that kids mustache was dreadful got on my nerves. Lol
Nicely said. i see you are an intelligent individual, that is goood.
i think this is a chat with interview questions added afterwards.
they need to sort out this interviewer out. his delivery is so inhibited
truss I was thinking that
WORLD CONCERN... MANY MANY MANY TANKS! GUIDANCE MY LORD...
When I think of rappers spreading awareness and starting a revolution I am reminded of Bob Marley and John Lennon.
11.28 such a good point
great job well put..us help us all.
and Mixed Raced men too (men of African descent)
Good interviewer he just asked the questions and didn't blabber on.
True legend

to educate yourself about everthing.lIt would take hundreds if not more years to do so.I always listened to Rap was born in 78,but like Rapers like TEC and Lowkey and others like them becausae they educate and don't stear kids in the wrong direction.I was on the wrong path in life in and out of jail, and finaly grew up and hope to stay out for good and help do good things for people(of any race or country).Rap played a big part in the way I thought as I grew up and wish these guys were around-
ah a musician who trully understands what's going on in the uk.
no mate, its a bar from his fire in the booth freestyle lol, of course reading alone won't make you this universally intelligent and articulate : ).
Does anyone know the books he recommeneded?
Someone said it, Huey Freeman!!!
texts of ephay ?? 11.06 mins in, anyone know how to spell the texts he lists

SAY IT LOUDER... AFRICA !
The pyramid of Giza was built way before. It in fact has nothing to do with the Pharao's.

Can't we all jusr be colour blind and not acknowledge ethnicity. That would be amazing.
hes so clever

Yes. We all have potential, but if you do not exercise it then it will slip away. Just do some reading man.

They rely on us being separated.

hes is of European descent as much as he is of African descent. probably more.

you do just read, read, read and don't let them say what you can achieve :D.
and he's STILL TALKING
