As a teenager, I saw Whitney Houston live on her tour in 1991. I was not prepared for how powerful and beautiful her voice was. An unforgettable experience.

So glad there’s a FULL Whitney Houston Live week! No one else deserves it more. I really hope her cover of “A Song for You” is included as well as “All the Man I Need” from her Welcome Home Heroes concert. She hits notes in those performances that are simply STUNNING!

Gents. This is a very important song to my family. My older brother was a professional baseball player and it was absolutely the culmination of a dream he worked very hard for. For his birthday about 30 years ago the family put together a video of photos and film footage from his time on the mound. This song was played in the background. He missed his second child's birth because he was in a game way across the country, so he sacrificed alot and spent a lot of years in the minors making no money and sleeping in crappy buses in medium size towns. After retiring from baseball, he became a TV sportscaster and his family is now very comfortable - and his son was a professional ball player too. We are so proud of them. This song reminds me of his victories in life and career. thanks.

Whitney... the Queen of making you feel like "It can't get ay better than this..." then she goes and does something to make it even better! I have been a fan of her for as long as I can remember and have watched these performances over and over again, probably thousands of hours and it STILL amazes me! I realized this past week... in hindsight she seems surreal. Like, it's hard to believe someone, a human, can produce such beautiful, soul stirring sounds AND be THAT beautiful! She existed and shared this gift... and look how the world treated her.

I so agree with you guys, especially what Mike was saying at the end. witnessing her perform in her heyday always feels like seeing a glimmer of God, there's no other way to describe the feeling. she was so truly blessed with a special talent. and I feel so fortunate to be able to bear witness through these video archives to what she achieved on stage even though we weren't yet born when it happened.
Whitney didn't love this anthemic song that much - it's a little slow and formulaic - so she just took the stage in that dress and wig that she was too young for and showed the world that she was the GREATEST singer in the game. She had two giant hit albums before this - but this night is when your grandparents set up and said why are there bells going off?? The resonance of her voice just RINGS out! She uses her mixed voice and belts and vibrato to near perfection. Her tone is rich and full and gorgeous. The power of her voice fills the theatre and elevates the song to the rafters. Oh, she not just a pop girlie with some gospell inflections? Whitney made Barbra Streisand sound like a mouse and Aretha seem scratchy. And she's THAT beautiful and poised and confident in her gift? Whitney Houston was a miracle.
And yet, this was not yet the peak of her greatness!

I'm in the age group of those who watched this Live when it originally aired, and naturally it was the opener of the show. And I remember very well this being the song of the Olympics that year, hence the footage during the opening. She is so amazing in her vocal control that her performance literally comes off as EFFORTLESS!
For me, this is, and will always be Whitney's best performance ever on film. Ever. The emotion, the range, it delivers on all.
While I am appreciative this performance finally made it into one of your Whitney Live Weeks, you really should throw in the towel and realize that for any "Whitney Houston Live Week" , this performance should ALWAYS be #1. While she has given other notable fantastic performances, no other touches this. Not by a mile.
As someone in that age group, I can say it’s too difficult to say this is the top live performance. There’s the One Song performance in front of the first president Bush, then there’s The Greatest Love Of All (Wembley) performance, there’s Do You Hear What I Hear? performance, there’s wayyy to many more of name to just pick 1 as number one. And let’s not forget about the audios that we have like the I Am Changing (San Francisco 1986)..the there’s the He, I Believe (Japan 1990) audio…Whitney singing live was just out of this universe. She was truly phenomenal.

I agree with Mike. You can hear and see Whitney perform over and over but the truth of her power, talent and gloriousness just hits every time as if it´s the very first experience. It´s a beautiful thing to be able to have the opportunity. Great reaction!

Whitney is the greatest of all time, she had the voice, beauty and charisma….but most of all when she sings she makes it personal because it’s never generic, she’s in the moment with you….and u never know how she will interpret the song, because she sings it as she feels it at that moment, it’s in the tempo changes, in her conducting the band with her hands, it’s in words she emphasizes, it can be her body movement or facial expression….but all theses things added up…..it’s all raw talent

It hasn't changed. They still have a pretty big backlog to catch up on from the time it was still possible (they mentioned at the time that only future requests wouldn't be possible). I believe Ryan requested and donated for this list in early July.
