My mother is 88 and diagnosed with Alzheimer's but whenever I play any of Whitney Houston's songs, she will recognise her voice immeditaely and smile. When I play someone else singing singing this song or "I Will Always Love You" she won't sing along unless it is Whitney singing. Just proves how awesome, amazing, special and talented Whitney was. And how beautiful.
I had the privilege of being in the audience for this performance....over 30 years later and I still get chills everytime I hear it. Best live performance EVER! Such a beautiful and classy woman! We will never forget you Whitney!
This is and will always be the best live performance EVER. No backing singers, no auto tune. She will be remembered forever because her music will be passed down generations. Anyone agree?
She's amazing, that song is special to me, I danced with my dad at my wedding to it. I'm listening to it today which is what would have been his 87th birthday ❤🙏😇
Back when America tuned in for the Grammys because of pure god given talent and greatness performed and came together to celebrate the best music of the past year. That angelic voice will never ever be replaced or duplicated. Her voice was a finely tuned instrument. As Tina put it back in the day “ Simply the best, better than all the rest”!!!!
Art is subjective. Especially music. Singing transcends many genres. She was spectacular, but “to ever walk the planet”. We can’t know that. Recording has only been possible for a short time in human history. Be cautious with hyperbole
No background singers, no dancers, no hoochie outfit, no special effects, no lip-syncing... Just pure talent on the mic ... The voice! 🎤🎶 I love all her performances 💕 #RIPWhitneyHouston
The perfect combination of power, control, emotion, soul, vocal acrobatics, vibrato, high notes, low notes, prununciation, tone, etc. Many singers try to oversing and sound like they are screaming and lose the meaning of the song, but Whitney is perfection.
@@dalexdalex we have the right to analyze someone in the same way that someone has the right to analyze us. Аnd we don’t actually analyze, we state the facts. She is a genius and she has no equal
She said it herself, singing is like breathing for me. That was her gift. Her ability to create sound so overwhelmingly unrestrained, so colossal, so rich, so colorful and so free that it could take you to another dimension. No one will ever do that again.
That kind of undermines that she was pushed to the brink of her mental health - like Jackson - to achieve this greatness. She didn’t wake up and sing like this, it took blood, sweat and tears to perfect it.
i'm not a fanboy. i'm into rock, metal, new wave, grunge. but a standing ovation doesn't quite cut it. every syllable and every note is breath-taking. this is equally gorgeous and painful to watch. regardless of your personal taste, this '89 Grammy job is not only houston's finest moment, but it's probably the best live vocal performance ever put to tape, in any genre, by anyone.
That much POWER. That much CLARITY. How the hell can you have enunciation and diction with that much power and maintain musical perfection. An unbelievable performance.
I had the privilege of being in the audience for this performance....over 30 years later and I still get chills everytime ...The best vocalist ever walked on this planet.
this question might sound cliche, but i really do mean it...... was it better in real life ? i mean, sometimes, it depends on where you are sitting and the balance of the speakers in different parts of the room. How was it for you ? Because when you are there in person, you don't get the close ups to see her pursing her lips for detail of each note. Or was it somehow much more spectacular in real life? i have never had the opportunity to witness this glorious lady perform life and will never have the change. Can you describe ?
This is just pure talent. No autotune, no in-ear, no backing vocals, just Whitney's voice and live instruments. I miss these kind of performances back in the day. RIP Whitney. Gone too soon.
She’s singing with a full orchestra not a single background singer no auto tune just her at 25yrs old like a seasoned professional!! Absolutely insane how incredibly talented Whitney was!!! Unreal!!!
This is when music was real, it touched your heart, made you sing and you ran out an purchased the music. I sure miss those days and definitely Whitney.
Agree 100%. Plus, by the time she hits the last chorus, the audience of her peers (not adoring fans) begin to applaud. Then the standing ovation at the end. That didn’t happen a lot in the 1980s, especially for someone so young. I’m so thankful her music will always live on.
Having spent her young years n a (presumably black) church choir, she was as seasoned as a young singer could get, and more. Add in native talent, and you have a time-bomb. Which is how it turned out. Unfortunately, tick-tick-tick BOOM.
I was just thinking about it. Imagine how hard it must've been to hit that head voice and then switch it to chest voice. She was a pro. Nothing else to be said.
In my opinion, this is the best live performance at the Grammy's that we'll ever see. She just blew everyone away. We lost her far to early in life. Just an incredible voice and heck that's an understatement.
Agreed. I'm convinced this 1986 London performance I have of hers on my channel (the only upload I have, so it will be easy to locate) is likely her greatest live vocal and THE greatest live vocal performance ever captured on audio. In this 13 min rendition of 'I AM CHANGING' (originally sung by Jennifer Holliday) she unleashes the full weight of her powers like a 300 foot tall, 3-headed 🔥 breathing dragon🐉🐲 incinerating everything and everyone in it's path. She takes her time in the first few minutes just to lure you in- then she takes off like a scud missile launch. It is truly breathtaking, wonderfully exhausting and I cannot imagine a universe in which this performance can be matched by any other vocalist. Just be sure to wear headphones and let NOTHING distract you for 13 mins. It's an experience that demands your full attention. The lyrics are in the description. I'd love to know your reaction. Feel free to comment either here or on the video itself on my channel Cheers 🤗
No auto-tune, no earpiece, just a mic. That's all Whitney needed to showcase her voice in the purest form. This song is very hard to sing and stay in-tune and she effortlessly managed to do it. RIP Queen!
One of the most talented singers in history. Every song she sang was made 10 times better by her beautiful voice. If young people of today want to see true talent they need to watch Whitney Houston sing.

Whitney is playing with this song she is having fun and touching every note with perfection like its nothing smh there will NEVER be another Whitney. This is priceless
I'm here in 2024 (85 yr's old) grew up with music - this song is a masterpiece - every note, every beat, with so much passion, so much feeling - arguably the greatest song, by the greatest singer ... ever - listening on high end audio, through high end headphones - incredible *
I'll just remind you how rare it was back then to have a standing ovation at the Grammy Awards. I'll also add this was 4 years into her career. Name another vocalist with this achievement. This is, without any doubt, the greatest vocal performance at the Grammy Awards. Whitney is the blue-print. Whitney is the greatest vocalist of any generation.
I believe at this time Whitney receieved about three up until 1989. First three being 1986 Granmys (Saving All My Love For You, 1987 (Greatest Love of All), and 1988 (I Wanna Dance With Somebody).
Best vocalist of all time. No one else is even in her league. She also sang the best rendition of our national anthem of all time. Today’s singers should take lessons from her.
Listening in 1989 - Amazing Listening in 1998 - Amazing Listening in 2020 - Amazing Listening in 3046 - Amazing Listening till the end of time, still amazing!!
Whitney Houston’s live performance of “One Moment In Time” at the 1989 Grammy Awards is nothing short of legendary. This powerful ballad, written for the 1988 Summer Olympics, is a testament to personal triumph and striving for greatness, and Houston’s performance on that night perfectly captured the spirit of the song, leaving an indelible mark on both the audience and her career. Dressed in a shimmering gown, Houston commanded the stage with a grace and confidence that matched the song’s theme of perseverance and seizing a singular moment of glory. Her vocal delivery was impeccable from start to finish. She opened with a controlled, almost understated tone, allowing the song’s message to gradually unfold. But as the song builds in intensity, so too did her voice, delivering a powerful crescendo that left the audience in awe. What sets this performance apart is not just her technical brilliance-though Houston hits every note with pitch-perfect precision-but the sheer emotion she pours into the song. When she sings the line, “I’m only one, but not alone,” you can feel her personal connection to the message of resilience and inner strength. The way she belts out the climactic chorus, “Give me one moment in time, when I’m more than I thought I could be,” is a moment of pure vocal mastery and emotional release that resonates deeply with anyone who's ever chased a dream. The live orchestration, combined with Houston’s unmatched stage presence, gave the performance a grand, almost cinematic quality. Her ability to effortlessly transition from soft, tender moments to powerful, soaring notes showcased why she was regarded as one of the greatest vocalists of all time. This Grammy performance of “One Moment In Time” remains one of Whitney Houston’s most iconic moments. It not only highlighted her incredible vocal range but also her ability to inspire through music. The song itself, with its uplifting message of achieving greatness in life’s defining moments, was brought to life in a way that only Whitney Houston could. This performance continues to be celebrated as a shining example of her extraordinary talent and her place in music history as an unforgettable artist.
Just after she finishes & the camera finally pans close up to the audience... I see Bette Midler standing & clapping & fist pumping... she knew!! She heard!!!
Whitney Houston is the gold standard of female singers around the world. Even today, her influence remains even if she's long gone and what a gift she's given the music world.❤️
Agree. I just watch the video when she duet with mariah. Mariah is my idol. But when whitney duet with mariah.. I can hear the different quality of voice.. whitneys is goddess of voice. Very bright voice.
God Given and Blessed Voice. Love me some Whitney Houston. Only 3 singers in my lifetime have given me goosebumps and touch the deepest part of my soul. Whitney, Marc , Elvis. Bring me to tears
It happens to me too. I can't believe what an exquisite performance this is. Arrangement, direction, performance - all stars aligned. The very best - - simply awe inspiring....
Great memory! I remember being in 11th grade and watching this PHENOMENAL and UNFORGETTABLE Grammy performance by Whitney with my family as we ate dinner!❤
I’m really happy that moments like this are how we choose to remember Whitney. She struggled and carried so much later in her life. She deserves to be remembered at her best.
Agree 110%. Whitney gave EVERYTHING to the world that she possibly could during her time here. I sometimes think she gave more to us than she gave to herself. Whatever she went through in her personal life belongs to her and her alone. I think we got enough. No regrets. She did exactly what she was meant to do.❤
Just in case you haven't heard this before, I want to share with you what I consider to be not only Whitney's greatest live performance but quite possibly the greatest live vocal ever captured on audio - an epic and wonderfully exhausting 10 minute 1986 concert performance. Only Whitney's biggest fans know about it. It is truly remarkable, earth shattering and seemingly impossible how a 23 yr old young lady (who weighed about 115 pounds) possessed that kind of lung power. It's her cover of the Dreamgirls song 'I am changing' originally sung by Jennifer Holiday but Whitney the vocal predator lured the song into her white van (with no windows) kidnapped it, butchered it and buried it! You MUST set aside ten minutes of undivided in a quiet space, put yout best headphones in (or Blu-tooth speaker at high volume) and Brace yourself. I can't wait to hear your reaction. ruclips.net/video/FvWdnimqgeA/видео.html
@Angel Johnson Her National Anthem was FANTASTIC and everyone considers it the standard however this one moment in time performance is on a whole different level and flawless vocally.
Starting at 4:12 my whole body has a physical vibration. The whole performance takes me to another dimension. I still love you Whitney. We really miss you. #TheVoice
One of Whitney's finest vocal performances ever recorded. And like an Olympic athlete it showed us what Whitney, at the pinnacle of her game, was capable of doing. She was simply an amazing vocalist and will be greatly.missed....
I think this is the best vocal performance I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched this so so many times and I’m always in awe . This is truly breathtaking and overwhelmingly amazing.
you can't say that: of all time. Then you surpass Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Maria Callas, etc. Every time has his or her great vocalists. And in her time time it was Whitney.
@@normadesmond6017 None that you named looked like Whitney. Whitney was built for stardom and singing. Vocals, face, body, grace, charm, articulate, overall mass appeal. Thanks for coming.
@@I-AM-BELIEVER beeing the best vocalist you have to look a certain way?? Streisand is the one who has won every know awards known to man. Whitney didn't. She and Garland had the vocals grace, charm, articulate, mass appeal. Look at you tube fragments of them performing. Far greater then Whtiney. Your arguments are absolutely wrong.
How privileged must the audience have been to experience Whitney live....that was my only regret never getting to watch her perform live.... her voice truly is a gift from God ❤
@@MrCostaC No. Her mother said she was naturally gifted. And in few years she learned how to sing better than her. Whitney herself said that God helped her to learn how to sing!!She was an special talent since day number one. She dedicated her life to God even the last years of life. And she was also raised in church. Unfortunately she didn't take care of the gift she had. There are a lot of people that train and train and train. They have good genes, amazing throats...but they never get to this level. Mariah Carey for example is a self taught singer. She never had proper lessons with a coach or with her mom... That's a gift.
A maior cantora de TODOS os tempos na maior apresentação de um artista ao vivo, impressionante! No final parece que nem ela mesmo acreditou no que ela foi capaz de fazer! Rainha!!!
The best live performance I've ever seen. Her voice is unquestionably and undeniably incomparable. I don't think we'll have another voice like that for generations to come, especially with today's music quality.
Wow. I was watching in 1989 aged 20. I'm still watching December 2024. Legend. Phenomenon icon beautiful missed everyday. 😢❤😢❤😢❤ I'm here crying like a baby!! Literally
The world is full of greats and we've seen and heard them live. But no one, no one, performs live as effortlessly as Ms Houston. She was on another level.
I'm 79 - Whitney was great, but have you checked out Lucy Thomas, 20, who released her version of this song just before the recent Paris Olympics? For me, Lucy has the most beautiful voice I have heard in my lifetime! 😊
I watch this performance pretty much every single day. The things she did near the middle end of this performance...whew! Frightening. The way she soared up to the top end of her soprano and hit & held them long notes still blows my mind 30+ years later. They don't make 'em like this no more.
I love how after Whitney graces us with an unbelievably celestial performance, she humbly bows her head, claps *for* the audience, and earnestly says, “God bless you.”
She knew what had just happened; that everything aligned and she had given a performance that nobody, even herself, would ever achieve again. She knew the performance was bigger than herself alone.
Even if you don’t like Whitney Houston’s music can we all agree this is one of the best vocal performances the world has ever seen. I mean that last note she did blew my mind
No one has ever, nor will they ever be able to do what she did. Her pure talent and power were out of this world. She was one of a kind. The voice. Everyone knew how unbelievably talented she was from day one but THIS, this is the exact moment this 26 year old girl solidified her status as a legend.
She had solidified her voice as a legend looooooong before this song or performance. Whitney Houston was the 1st solo artist IN HISTORY to have a #1 debut album. And also before this performance she was the first and Still ONLY Act to have 7 straight #1 records.
this was in an era when people did not freely give standing ovations. and this is an audience full of musicians, artists, vocalists, and music executives. It's rare even in the industry, to witness someone who is this level of master of her instrument.

Vocal prodigy! The sound that Whitney projects in the bridge when she says “Seize that one moment in “TIMEEEE”…make it “SHINEEEE”. It’s like her voice made it’s own echo and was encased in warmth. Never heard any other singer do that in my life. ❤️❤️❤️
I don't think any other pop singers could if they tried. The only people who are groomed to create their own resonant spaces while they sing are Opera singers.

The perfect combination of power, control, emotion, soul, vocal acrobatics, vibrato, high notes, low notes, prununciation, tone, etc. Many singers try to oversing and sound like they are screaming and lose the meaning of the song, but Whitney is perfection.

She said it herself, singing is like breathing for me. That was her gift. Her ability to create sound so overwhelmingly unrestrained, so colossal, so rich, so colorful and so free that it could take you to another dimension. No one will ever do that again.

this question might sound cliche, but i really do mean it...... was it better in real life ? i mean, sometimes, it depends on where you are sitting and the balance of the speakers in different parts of the room. How was it for you ? Because when you are there in person, you don't get the close ups to see her pursing her lips for detail of each note. Or was it somehow much more spectacular in real life? i have never had the opportunity to witness this glorious lady perform life and will never have the change. Can you describe ?

This is when music was real, it touched your heart, made you sing and you ran out an purchased the music. I sure miss those days and definitely Whitney.
Agree 100%. Plus, by the time she hits the last chorus, the audience of her peers (not adoring fans) begin to applaud. Then the standing ovation at the end. That didn’t happen a lot in the 1980s, especially for someone so young. I’m so thankful her music will always live on.
@@judybroadway370I agree 💯💯💯
Having spent her young years n a (presumably black) church choir, she was as seasoned as a young singer could get, and more. Add in native talent, and you have a time-bomb.

I truly believe this could be the best live performance of a vocalist ever.

@@motorista297 Verdade, se não fosse o RUclips pra recordar, eu não sei o que seria de mim!!
I think this is the best vocal performance I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched this so so many times and I’m always in awe . This is truly breathtaking and overwhelmingly amazing.
The best vocalist of all time. Periodt.
Hands down. The GOAT
you can't say that: of all time.
@@normadesmond6017 Chile, I'm not reading that mess, I said what I said!
How privileged must the audience have been to experience Whitney live....that was my only regret never getting to watch her perform live.... her voice truly is a gift from God ❤
It was actually genetics and years of hard work
God?!?! Fuck right off. That’s years of hard work
@@MrCostaC exactly. Just what I said. Giving credit where it’s not due is so rude
@@mat_o8975 - sure its a gift.....of genetics. Don't bring god into it, there's no such thing.
Truly the greatest female vocalist of all time
One of many , but top ten
Celine Dion ♥️

Nada e igual nesta terra maravilhosa. Que falta faz esta rainha.
Meu Deus! Eu nunca tinha ouvido ou visto essa versão da música cantada por ela! Meu deus chorei mto mto! Amo essa música 💙😭
Mas as apresentações é cada uma melhor que a outra 😮difícil escolher
Perfeita❤
For me She is the Best Singer in the Universe, no one will replace here. ❤️❤️❤️
Undoubtedly!!
Same for me! The best ever!!!!
100% agree!
Her voice was a true instrument used by God himself. She was so elegant and graceful.
She was an angel
@Gerg Gergenheimer and yet He died for her and US, who have turned our backs and God still extends His hands to us, me ---you ...and yes, even her.
@Gerg Gergenheimer She died in Christ. Whitney knew the Lord. We are all flawed. Issues of thr flesh can over power anyone.
I’ve watched this countless times and each time I tear up. The combination of both these talented women is beautiful. RIP Whitney
The best live performance I've ever seen. Her voice is unquestionably and undeniably incomparable. I don't think we'll have another voice like that for generations to come, especially with today's music quality.
Angel Johnson even Soh Yang can't sing like this

When she left this world; a light went out. Loved her voice. What an incredibly gifted singer & entertainer! We miss you, Whitney.

Never watched another award show after she passed. Just doesn’t seems the same
Wow. I was watching in 1989 aged 20. I'm still watching December 2024. Legend. Phenomenon icon beautiful missed everyday. 😢❤😢❤😢❤ I'm here crying like a baby!! Literally

I'm 79 - Whitney was great, but have you checked out Lucy Thomas, 20, who released her version of this song just before the recent Paris Olympics? For me, Lucy has the most beautiful voice I have heard in my lifetime! 😊
The voice...the best ever..
@@michaelhingley4770i listened to her and she's like an a.i. version of Whitney's singing. Her voice is pretty but lacks soul and real emotion.
This performance was her One Moment In Time. This is how I will always remember her. A powerhouse.
Yup she's woman of god always diligent and grateful!!!!
she should not have been humble at all.
she was a goddess, should have acted like one.
@@richaricha3261 thats what lead to her demise
She knew what had just happened; that everything aligned and she had given a performance that nobody, even herself, would ever achieve again.
She knew the performance was bigger than herself alone.
Her vocals on this live version sounds a 1000 times better than the record it self. THE BEST live vocalist of all time.
Even if you don’t like Whitney Houston’s music can we all agree this is one of the best vocal performances the world has ever seen. I mean that last note she did blew my mind
who doesn't like her?
And who the hell doesn't like her music.... are you for real.... 😒😒😒
When she closes her eyes she is in another place and she brings us with her. Unbelievable talent. Unforgettable. Legend.
Yes
No one has ever, nor will they ever be able to do what she did. Her pure talent and power were out of this world. She was one of a kind. The voice. Everyone knew how unbelievably talented she was from day one but THIS, this is the exact moment this 26 year old girl solidified her status as a legend.
I've always felt that this performance embodies the very very best of Whitney. Flawless and illustrates all the best at her peak.
Astounding, breathtaking perfection of a performance. Unmatched to this day! 🙏🏻💜
She had solidified her voice as a legend looooooong before this song or performance. Whitney Houston was the 1st solo artist IN HISTORY to have a #1 debut album. And also before this performance she was the first and Still ONLY Act to have 7 straight #1 records.
Speak the life of truth into it Jonathan!
Charice pempengco just did
this was in an era when people did not freely give standing ovations. and this is an audience full of musicians, artists, vocalists, and music executives. It's rare even in the industry, to witness someone who is this level of master of her instrument.
It was also an era in which singers had to be really talented and able to sing good without autotune.
@@ninamo7969 this is true.....but even Whitney was just so far beyond the regular singers of the day.

Vocal prodigy! The sound that Whitney projects in the bridge when she says “Seize that one moment in “TIMEEEE”…make it “SHINEEEE”. It’s like her voice made it’s own echo and was encased in warmth. Never heard any other singer do that in my life. ❤️❤️❤️

Yes, she's the one and only singer can do that sound.
I don't think any other pop singers could if they tried. The only people who are groomed to create their own resonant spaces while they sing are Opera singers.
