Have you guys ever though about using walkie talkies (regarding the opening the gates in advance, for example) or is that generally such a small problem that it's not worth it (considering the long ranges could be a problem and/or if folks are so spread out that they'd not be able to quickly help anyways)?
Most stations use walker talkies, I just send texts and make phone calls where we have service.

'Tractive' is a decent pet tracker, has kms and weekly tally, GPS and a heat-map of sites visited. Only bugger is that you need a plan with it, about $130 AUD a year.

Tara, on January 12, 2000, I was living in New Orleans, Louisiana (I grew up in the south eastern USA & moved to Australia in 2005 - when I was 36.).
I remember being outside, barefoot, watching the fireworks going off around us and also being so close to the city of NOLA, we saw fireworks across the river from us. It was the most amazing fireworks display I'd ever seen. It seemed to last a lot longer as well .
*Note: I don't miss living in a huge city. I prefer living way out in the suburbs as far out as I can possibly be.

Tara theres a "health tracker" called PitPat that records how much sleep, rest, exercise they do in a day. And in excersise whats walk run and play..... might be something like you are looking at. Otherwise maybe something like tractive or whistle?! Basically google activity trackers for dogs and youll get one that suits your needs. We have pitpat. The only thing with our pitpat is you have to press a button to link it to the app each time (as in to download the info to the app, the device stores 7 days info on it at a time before it needs downloading or it starts overwriting it...) not sure if the new ones are different to that. Either way youll find all the info on them online ❤

Re: distances run. You can get a finger sized USB GPS tracker for Typo. Attach to collar and it will record her path. The included software will allow you to see where she has been, speed, distance, elevation etc. They have very good battery life (e.g. Canmore).
Yeah I’ve heard of cheap watches connected to the dogs leg. They are light weight, and connect to your phone for an app with all the info.

Your farm is a large size in a regional area so maps on a lower price system might not have as much detail as a more satellite system could provide. In the dearer gps you could attach it to a ewe then a ram and compare where they travel how many km they cover in 24 hours. Rationalising it as an investment for the business could be a push to buy one. 😁
Oh no! I've thought of another reason to get the dearer one...I haven't seen another creator use one. We're seeing fantastic drone coverage. A slug gps system would be the equivalent of buying a drone, wouldn't it? They'd both have the same amount of advantages/reasons to own one.

There is a product sold in the United States called trackor that will tell you exactly how far your dogs walks or runs in a particular day. I have them on my LGD Maremma's and work great.

January 12th 2000? Freshman year at Uni, up in Fairbanks Alaska. This was right around the time I took a wander to the local petrol station for a slushy. . . not noticing that it was -40 out. Oddly enough at -40 a slushy will keep your hands warm. About 3km round trip.
That has given me a lot to think about.
@@TaraFarms I'm pretty resistant to cold. When I was living in Alaska I wouldn't wear long pants until it was below -20c. But then Fairbanks has pretty much no wind, so if you aren't moving too quick you form a shell of hot air around yourself.
Anything below -40 sucks recently dropped sheep scrotes. (You can prep for temps like that. I have a nice pair of wool pants for those temps. . . over a cm thick. Paired with silk longjohns, Sorel Glacier Stompers, and a parka out of Sibera you're as likely to overheat as to be too cold. Just don't expose any skin! Oh and you NEED goggles or risk your eyes freezing open.)

I get it put on me so it literally don’t even bother me. We use a microscope to do it. I did a full video on it last year and a short earlier this one 😊
