It was probably on No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak” video. The same thing happened with Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal. Gwen wrote that song about Tony breaking her heart. It became a huge hit and then they had to perform it on stage beside each other every night.
I was at this show in the second row, dead center. Honestly, at first I thought this was some sort of choreographed schtick. Towards the end of the song, Lindsey walked over to Stevie's mic, as usual, but she stood there frozen, back to the audience, with her hands covering her face. It seemed like the pregnant pause was going on forever until Lindsey hugged her with one arm and sang the lines and kissed her on the cheek. But she just stood there looking down, unable to move. It wasn't until the lights came up for the next song, "Tusk," that I realized it was not acting. As she was walking off stage to change outfits, I could see that she looked utterly devastated - uncontrollable tears. I'm still haunted by the devastated look on her face in that moment.

There's something about Stevie and Lindsey's love for each other that is unexplainable, I watch them on stage and listen to the lyrics of their songs, and it moves me so much, I sadly have never seen them live although It's my dream to. But whenever i hear them and see them obviously so deeply in love but not being able to be together breaks me apart and sends me to tears, I didn't grow up in their era and I'm envious of my parents for that sole purpose, I would've loved to have seen them when they where all so young and the rock n' roll was the to die for. I will never truly know/understand what it is about them but they bring me into a different universe when I listen to FM and see live performances of them on stage together, I hope that one day they get back together, whether it's in this life or another, they deserve each other even if it is away from FM,
I wish you could have seen them live once in your life. I’ve seen them and Stevie 22 times since I was 14 in 1976, I’m 62 now. I named my daughter RHIANNON due to my hearing that song at the age of 14. She so fits her name to a tee!! Stevie & Lindsey are soulmates plain & simple until the day they die. ❤
Another rare rock love story played out on stage and off. There are so few couples I can remember that while they parted ways and found new love there is still something rare and precious between them. All we can do is watch and love them and the music. Just Wow!
They had talked about performing together since 1968, so when you see that emotional moment, I just think it's that overwhelming feeling that they're still alive, doing what they love, a song that at the time had been buried on a b-side until "The Dance" where it breathed new life 20 years later.
The quality of the lyrics to this song are incredible - rich, timeless, penetrating and powerful. Stevie's voice and the rest of the band accompanying her send chills down my spine. If anyone wants to know what true love is really about - just watch the interplay on stage between Stevie and Lindsey are like. I have not seen anything on any video on this site to equal or come close to the raw, overwhelming emotion in their looks and embrace at the end. Better to have loved , than to not at all
Somewhere, out there, in another universe, these two married and had kids and sing Big Love to each other. I know their break up gave us such beautifully sad music. But I can wish.
Raw emotion - words can't describe how touching and accurate this song is. You never forget a woman you loved. I'm sure Lindsey will never forget Stevie and she him.
Daisy Jones and The Six is so similar to this. I loved that series and I never thought of these two before I start watch it. Now I get where that inspo comes from 🙂
Noticing the date this was recorded (late Nov '97), & recalling that Lindsey had his 1st child in early July '98, makes me wonder if Stevie hadn't maybe found this news out shortly b4. Like, say, after all the "what-if" years, something as monumental as him having a child finally put the nail in the proverbial coffin..thus, this elevated level of already-intense-emotion being the result. I mean, I KNOW they'd been apart for a lifetime, but it's so clear that their love was still very much alive.
He pondered that same thought in an interview. I think she was pissed off and hurt. I think that’s a reason she’s stayed pretty much single. When artists get hurt…. We get butt hurt and wallow forever.
I'm a 56yr old Proud Black Metalhead, but when I found this tribute and watched it. I balled my eyes out like a baby... So moving and beautiful... I truly believe that Lindsey and Stevie will be back together in this life or the next... It is their destiny...❤😢
The greatest love story of my time!! Good and bad. They stuck with it and wrote some amazing music from it. No other band, or two people could go through what these did!
The love story that took the 80s into their world .Took Fleetwood Mac to the top of the mountain. Took our dreams . Took our thoughts . Took our hopes and finally took our hearts . The greatist love and loss story . Bless you all, and thank you for the journey ❤
To see Stevie and Lindsey sing this song together for each other is so emotional... I cry every time... it's a shame they couldn't have worked things out..Now listen to Time to Say Goodbye... it'll break your heart.
WOW.....words will never be able to express the deep love those two have for each other. Believe me this has just made me look at my own personal relationship a little different ...Thank You
This is heartbreaking, two people still in love but past events prevail. He adores her, she wants him, but is hesitant. So sweet and sorrowful...I love them both, they are a force together and apart. CroNix99 you captured their undying love~
+Lea Benson I often thought that too, until watching many documentaries of Stevie, Lindsey and the Band, I now suspect this is a big money earner for Fleetwood Mac and an act they play out on each tour. I think Joe Walsh still pulls the strings of Stevie's heart. You really think Kristen Messner would sit back happily and watch a world tour if they still had deep feelings. As much as I love Fleetwood mac, this is all part of the game that "Players" play.
Watched this version of this great song and be damned if someone didn't start chopping onions. A truly fantastic piece of music preformed by two Souls totaly in Love. For all time!
Their eyes and souls. Tells of what they had together. What they want and can't have again and, we will sadly never will be again. They truly loved and still love each other.
@kimberlydavis-lx5nn...Stevie seems to have an issue with talking about it all the time. Lindsey has moved on and she hasn't. Personally, I think she's angrier now because he has been married with children for over 20 years and she has no one. Most of the footage is prior to 2000 before he married.
@@Elizabeth-dw6lc Don't be fooled, Lindsey hasn't completely moved on from Stevie either, at least not in heart. He can only say so much because he has grown children, and a wife, but it seems they are together for those kids primarily. If you read between the lines of both, his and Stevie's words and songs, it's clear. *And a lot of this footage is after he married.
Stevie nicks has been my favorite singer as long as I can remember , & I love both of them performing together, sounded amazing & it brought a tear to my eye , well I cried a lot , I hope one day I will be able to see her concert , one day when I'm done raising my amazing kids .. beautiful song !!
that Stevie not only had the most popular songs in the group, but she had the most successful solo career, but as classy as she is she always put the band as her 1st priority and never forced any of her solo material on the band..she kept them seperate.
Beautiful video as well as audio!! My heart is broken over the loss of Christine McVie! Lindsey just had emergency open heart surgery. His wife said it saved his life, but badly damaged his vocal cords! We will never hear the voices of Christine, Lindsey, & Stevie, again!!
This is the most profound and heart wrenching video I've ever seen . I can feel the love they feel for each other. I do believe that in life we have all experienced this at some point as sad as it may be . I feel that this story here is actually what you call true love . I have watched this video numerous times and each time the pain always feels the same that never goes away. Stevie you are a woman of true grace and elegance. Love Gabriele ❤️🇨🇦
When we saw "The Dance" and Stevie and Lindsey sang this song to each other... Everywhere we were..people were crying.. I have never been to such a more moving performance in my life......
I saw that concert several times on RUclips (wish I was there In person) and yes they were absolutely singing to each other for much of it. I believe they started touring again after “The Dance.” ❤. Phenomenal…
Love never dies! Stevie and Lindsey will ALWAYS have a very strong bond and a time tested love story! I love just watching the true magic between them! xx
When they were at a reunion concert and Lindsay was really rocking it, Stevie took a step back and said " oh no what have I done. " So so so sad. They are true soul mates.
How could you not love her and i am sure she still loves lindsey and they will both probaly love each other tell thet die i know my wife and i use to listen to rumors at her house when we were 13 years old that was in 1978 we still listen to it together i couldnt imagine what it took to work together everyday and have what they had together how hard that was for them but i no they like me and my wife will love each other tell they die there great and we will always love Fleetwood Mac we seen them 3 times live and it was always great god bless Christine Mcvie RIP yyou will be missed but never forgotten
No more powerful words time cast a spell on you but you won’t forget me…. All the gestures of love…. There’s different kinds. One time. First love ….they will be together again🕊️🕊️🔮
Thank you for playing one of top 5 favorite Stevie Nicks songs and for the great video. I am so thrilled because my husband surprised me today at work with 2 tickets to see Stevie at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion tomorrow night. I have never seen my idol in person before and I am long overdue since I am 50, she is 63 and I have loved her since I was 15.
Great post, thanks. The clips seem to show Lindsey still aches for Stevie, and while she cherishes him, she kind of has to keep him (hold him) back a bit; he just wants more. Fascinating.
Ohhh my heart strings ❤️ Imagine singing for years right next to your ex-love. How emotional that must be. Stevie Nicks will always have a special place in my heart. I have listened to them since I was 5 and i'm now 53! ~ She's forever in our families hearts.
Stevie Nicks, where to start. She is so wonderful. My mom and I listened to her and the wonderful band. She's a great person. Listen to her lyrics. That says it all.
Their dance together is not over, it will take lifetimes. Beautiful voice, lyrics and song. Lindsey has captured the original FM sound with his guitar riff.
I so know the pain of loving a woman who can't love you back! So many songs written about that very subject. 26 years later and I still love you Lisa Hollibaugh!
Yes, it seems to be that Stevie and Lindsey share a strong, undying love. And more than that, an intangible chemistry. Makes for unforgettable performances!
this is the kind of love ive been searching for my whole life...when he breathes in her scent like rose, you know how deep they still are connected.Even after all the interviews ive watched with her,the latest being the one in England in 1973 about her hour and half of just talk with Lindsey about what they were, and if they can put it all behind them and still have that feeling showing thru so the audiences know it as truth and not just playing in a play for us..does that make sense> I will always love and respect them
their love for each other will never go away but to keep that love alive through friendship is truly something. I had a love/friendship like that, but he passed away a couple years ago, today marks 2 years
Wow. I'd only seen the performance where near the song's end Stevie is giving Lindsey a withering stare. This vid gives me a whole new perspective on how they felt about each other during this tour. It's deeply heartwarming. ❤❤
Amazing--hard to watch this and I knowing the back story of this song and listening and feeling the powerful, stingingly sad lyrics and sound. And how she cried in the end made me cry. She struggled to get this song played and published--it is one of Fleetwood Macs most powerful and iconic songs.
I saw the performance Last night at The Classic West. Sadily, they did not perform this song and I noticed that both were trying not to show their love on stage, only one hug between them. I can only assume that it was to spare his family. I saw them in 2015 and all I could think of was how hard it must be for his wife to watch them perform. It was so obvious that Stevie's love will always be in his soul and his in hers.
This song, my favourite from the rumours album. Encompasses the relationship and love stevie and Lindsay will always have for each other. She is a legend
Fact is, it never made it to the actual album release. It was the B side of the single Go Your Own Way. Ironically, this is Stevie's response to Lindsay's GYOW. It was not until 20 years later, on the MTV Special and Stevie's emotional charged singing of it, the last half of it with Stevie & Lindsay in a locked eyes stare down (with Christine behind them watching intently) that he song finally found its place in Fleetwood Mac lore & music lexicon as it charted. It finally did appear on the box set.
i must have watched this a thousand times and i will watch it a million more. hands down my number one most cherished video on you tube, thank you every day for it, you did a beautiful job--i especially die a little when he cries into her shoulder. Thank you so much and rock on!
I watch these two and have pain in my heart for the three adult involved. I also have a sadness for Stevie as well as Lindsey's entire family. I have close friends that were once lovers and we sure don't have that kind of affection,, but I'm Married to the love of my life. I will always believe that Stevie and Lindsey were and will remain in love with one and other till death. I feel such a sadness for them, at the same time I'm so thankful I'm with MY SOULMATE!! And not just being able to show her love on a stage then going home without her. If I'm correct about this relationship,, they are both much stronger than I, 4 days without my wife is almost unbearable!! 40 years?? NOT POSSIBLE FOR THIS OLD COUNTRY BOY!! PEACE!
When Lindsey looks at Stevie you can see in his eyes he’s saying : « I love you more than anyone in this world, but now our love is impossible. I miss you Stevie » it’s just so sad. I can say I’m only 14 ( and i’m french, so i’m sorry for my bad english) but when i see that I’m crying all the time 😭 They are made to be together
I love this version ,so did athena We saw the emotion in both Stevie and Lindsay and held hands tight during this version and looked each other in the eye, into our souls
i was fortunate to see fleetwood mac for the rumors tour. They played silver springs in concert. I spent the next year looking for that song on their records. it just wasnt there. a very beautiful song...one of my favorites !!! that was in the late 1970's
I wonder what was happening on the very last bit. Lindsey looked upset and Stevie put her arms around him. Throughout this video, whenever Lindsey hugs her he closes his eyes and it's as if he's smelling her, in a good way I mean. It's like he's 'come home.'
I know all the " its only an act for the stage" or " they relive it only on stage " but the one thing I've never heard any one mention about this video is... have ya'll noticed it's ALWAYS Lindsey that kisses her, cuddles in close with his eyes closed as Michelle said, drinks her in with his eyes.. I don't care what they are, what they aren't. All I know is they make millions of us happy and sad at the same time, watching them onstage. And that, is what it's all about. We will always wish they had gotten married but if we're honest, it wouldn't be nearly as magical as seeing them like they are now,and wishing and hoping. Kind of, be careful what you wish for... we'd be happy for about 10 minutes if they got married, then we'd go see them on stage or in a video and that eternal hoping, longing, wishful looks and chemistry that now sizzles back and forth, would be gone because they got married .
Thank you for all your replies. princessoffire1107 that's the phrase I was looking for "drinking her in." Stevie always says she doesn't like Lindsey, but I think she protests too much and actions speak louder than words.
I was fortunate enough to have recorded "Silver Spring" off my car radio when it ce out on the B side of a 45. It tugged at my heart then and still does.
MANY really nice comments here that reassure one with waning hope in humanity that some remain who know what's good and enriching :) I had an invitation and the wheels awaiting my leap into a convertible Mach I Mustang to spend the weekend as a guest at their home in L.A. in late 70-something..... however, to be 18 and employed in Long Beach was lucky enough; the one time I hated the job was the moment of agony saying "DAMN IT!!!! I gotta work! #&@%*!!!!!!" and watching my friends roll out, headed north to some seriously invigorating hangout with phenomenal talent. Sweet video..... thanks for sharing it
You two beautiful talented people : Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham.. What a love pair. I know love can be magnetic but sometimes magnetic repels if flip side, so you worked together thru life and actually , couples who work together spend more time together than 2 married people, so you can say these 2 have a 'working relationship' which endured like a long term love affair /marriage. God this makes me cry , heart wretching to see you 2 cry for each other . This has broken my heart . I have stated though if you find the lovely version of Stevie singing Rhiannon where she wants birds in background of song, the most beautiful hauntingly gorgeous song as well as Silver Springs, Stevie is self taught and playing piano, God is it so fine of a song as well. I love Silver Springs the best of all of your songs Stevie & Lindsay. Thru the love, pain, hate , pain, and now love again. You have weathered love's storms as well as life's storms. You 2 are the best, and I will always think of you 2 in love, always have, always will. fan forever (Kalamazoo ). if anyone loves music well these 2 and Fleetwood Mac, yes they turned the world . :D
What a gift to have this beautiful song. Whenever, I see our Stevie singing with Lindsey I think of those lyrics from "Sara" "There's one heart beat and it NEVER dies!" ❤
Nothing better than writing a song about the man who broke your heart and having him play guitar next to you.

Raw emotion - words can't describe how touching and accurate this song is. You never forget a woman you loved. I'm sure Lindsey will never forget Stevie and she him.
Someone needs to make a movie about these two ❤️❤️❤️
He looks so sad, but he brought it on himself
@@janetdavis-snipes8371 I've never been sure what exactly happened between these two - why people say it's all his fault.
Daisy Jones and The Six is so similar to this. I loved that series and I never thought of these two before I start watch it. Now I get where that inspo comes from 🙂
@@Luva-_-he had an affair
She had a affaire actually- that started the decline
Noticing the date this was recorded (late Nov '97), & recalling that Lindsey had his 1st child in early July '98, makes me wonder if Stevie hadn't maybe found this news out shortly b4. Like, say, after all the "what-if" years, something as monumental as him having a child finally put the nail in the proverbial coffin..thus, this elevated level of already-intense-emotion being the result. I mean, I KNOW they'd been apart for a lifetime, but it's so clear that their love was still very much alive.
They had been hooking up during their 97 tour.
@@lpycb42I would like to believe that. No one really knows though. Wish they made it, watching them always tears me up.
That was so beautiful, I cried. I have this song stuck in my head almost all the time, anyway. Thanks for this version.
To see Stevie and Lindsey sing this song together for each other is so emotional... I cry every time... it's a shame they couldn't have worked things out..Now listen to Time to Say Goodbye... it'll break your heart.
Oh my god, his doing the last lines COMPLETELY changes the song in a new and different way, i got chills
This was my first time hearing this song and for some odd reason the tears just started to fall right away. I can feel the hurt, and that's powerful.
I still get chills watching them singing together while looking at each other ! So much love/hate/passion
She can't sing is she that high
Have YOU ever tried to sing and cry at the same time?
F41NXS maybe but real feelings don't die. And they relive it with every song. I'm sure they've moved on, but those feelings are still there.
+FafiLPDoll to me they are still the romance of the century. they are still great friends!
Paula Cornaglia I love them! I love watching them fight on stage and then make up.
I know right? You can see how much they still love each other. They always look at each other during songs. Wish they would get back together.
It's like one of those first romances that never quite burned out.
Without a doubt
He did not love her. He is a narcissistic asshole who used her, then discarded her .. Her poor 16 yo soul never recovered....
@@IamAnson777 I think you might have it backwards, but I do love them both.
Oh, this is wonderful. Thanks for putting it together. Brought tears to my eyes. What a love. What a band. All for of them.
Was at the Jersey concert on Sept 26th 1997. I FINALLY got to see them live! I will never forget that night! I just ADORE this band!
You lucky bastard.❤❤❤
you can see how much he loves her
don't be so foolish.
What a deep love they have. What an honor it is for them to share it with us.
Right? RIP Christine - I saw Stevie in person a mo before Christine McVie passed and was blown away. 40 yrs later and just WoW. Cant get enough
🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️😢😢🎶🎼✌️🌹
I've never even seen such admiration, and unconditional love as these two people have for each other on stage.
This is the most profound and heart wrenching video I've ever seen . I can feel the love they feel for each other. I do believe that in life we have all experienced this at some point as sad as it may be . I feel that this story here is actually what you call true love . I have watched
this video numerous times and each time the pain always feels the same that never goes away. Stevie you are a woman of true grace and elegance. Love Gabriele ❤️🇨🇦
They have such a passion for their art and love and respect for each other. Stevie and Lindsey are tremendous artists who are a joy to watch.
I love just watching the true magic between them! xx
One of the best songs i've ever heard in my entire life
💚💛👍
When they were at a reunion concert and Lindsay was really rocking it, Stevie took a step back and said " oh no what have I done. "
So so so sad.
CroNix99, thank you! This takes me back to my wonderful Teenage Year's!!! Tears. Lindsey is Stevie's soulmate. Just look at them...
I can tell, by the way he looks at her & I feel the love in his hugs
That man still has some deep feelings for Stevie... He still loves her
Imagine the energy and emotion in the crowd.
That’s how they as artists have connected with us.
I think Lindsay and stevie are probably one of the greatest love stories The obviousness in their performance. I LOVE IT! !!!!!
everytime i hear this song on the radio or the video, i tend to cry since i am a fan of stevie nicks.
This is so well put together..thank you. So moving. Wow. So much love, so much sorrow.
26 years later and I still love you Lisa Hollibaugh!
am I the only one who gets teary eyed watching these two perform together?
Yes, it seems to be that Stevie and Lindsey share a strong, undying love. And more than that, an intangible chemistry. Makes for unforgettable performances!
Lindsey and Stevie are soulmates. Anybody with eyes can see they've always been meant to be together. No ones magic compares to theirs.
maybe the saddest love story ever-this is not disney and you can't be with your true love -no matter how much you still love them
Eileen Baran fckn I relate to that non fairytale shit
Eileen Baran i
Maybe we take our true loves with us through all of our lifetimes - that's how I feel anyway
So true! Powerful words?
@@zeph6439 If it is TRUE love... no time, nor distance... will ever erase it. Regardless of the circumstances.
this is the kind of love ive been searching for my whole life...when he breathes in her scent like rose, you know how deep they still are connected.Even after all the interviews ive watched with her,the latest being the one in England in 1973 about her hour and half of just talk with Lindsey about what they were, and if they can put it all behind them and still have that feeling showing thru so the audiences know it as truth and not just playing in a play for us..does that make sense> I will always love and respect them
Thank you for posting , heart warming !!!!!
Beautiful... Such real & raw eternal love, awesome 🕊️♥️🌠 made me cry, I'd say that's true Love and always will be... No matter what.
their love for each other will never go away but to keep that love alive through friendship is truly something. I had a love/friendship like that, but he passed away a couple years ago, today marks 2 years
I love Stevie and the love story she shares with Lynsey, it's so beautiful to watch them sing together.
May i just say that this is the best live recording of this song that I have ever heard. This is EXPLOSIVELY RAW. THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT.
PEace
I just love the connection between these two. Something magical. Everytime I hear this song and see them perform it it raises my pores.
Some of this video was just too heartbreaking, yet, mysterious and beautiful. Thank you, thank you for posting.
He loved her desperately .... And if he hadn't loved her so strongly they may have made it... It's obvious he still loves her...
AND she would never stop loving him😢
lol, how ridiculous.
Actions speak louder than words....Beautiful!!!!!
i must have watched this a thousand times and i will watch it a million more. hands down my number one most cherished video on you tube, thank you every day for it, you did a beautiful job--i especially die a little when he cries into her shoulder. Thank you so much and rock on!
Just because
It looked like he wiped his nose on her sleeve!!
That was the most beautiful thing I ever saw... They are so adorable together :)
i was fortunate to see fleetwood mac for the rumors tour.
I think he wanted to kiss her, but she shook her head, to say no. It's like magic with those two, seeing them on stage.
michelle88960 I think he is trying not to cry honestly
Thank you for all your replies. princessoffire1107 that's the phrase I was looking for "drinking her in." Stevie always says she doesn't like Lindsey, but I think she protests too much and actions speak louder than words.
michelle88960 i don’t think she likes him either. That’s LOVE ❤️
Great share! Such a lovely performance. Lovely people. ♡☆
I had a love like that many yrs ago, and I'm married now all these years later but, that was the once in a lifetime love that millions search for 😢
I was fortunate enough to have recorded "Silver Spring" off my car radio when it ce out on the B side of a 45.
:D
Oh gosh, at 3:57 he's crying on her shoulder...says it all in my opinion. He still loves her....
What a gift to have this beautiful song. Whenever, I see our Stevie singing with Lindsey I think of those lyrics from "Sara" "There's one heart beat and it NEVER dies!" ❤
Turned my 16 year old daughter on to this last night and she balled. She could not beleave they were not a couple. She saw the passion.
They were a couple
No greater love for each other than two magnificent individuals, in this life and the next.
