you snapped! also I think the key misstep of Mimis career was that she wouldn't technically release singles as official singles in the US, so even though she had a bunch of singles for daydream and butterfly, only fantasy, one sweet day, abmb, honey, and my all were allowed to chart as the rest were just promo or international only singles which sucks :( . I think breakdown especially could have been the most successful off that album in general, its had sm organic success and its an urban classic without any sort of promo at all
also with rainbow I agree with switching out the original for make it last, it so much better and it would have been a way bigger hit. I do think that the original song with just Mariah ft. the Backstreet Boys or nsync could have been one of the biggest hits of her career, but we all know Mariahs promo team isn't smart enough to figure that out 😭😭😭😭
also one more thing to the floor with nas considering how big he was at the time would have been a mega hit if it was promoted well so that should have been a major single imo. and honestly keep through the rain original just because of how big it is internationally and bringing on the heartbreak shouldn't be a song that exists imo 😭😭😭
To me, Migrate and Caution should've been the lead singles of their respective albums, and Lead the way should definitely have been a single for Glitter. Apart from that, I'm afraid to say I actually prefer the actual singles selections than the alternative ideas you proposed :-/

Caution should have been the lead single and the 1st track on the album:
Lead: Caution (2nd best on the album)
2nd: A No No
3rd: Giving Me Life
(best on the album, the chorus got stuck in my head after just one listen!)
4th: The Distance

5th: 8th Grade
This would've been the perfect single selection and would've done so much better commercially overall!

Also TEOM had great selection, it was just the timing that was wrong imo, she would be at her 20th rn 😭 For Caution, Runway deserved better too, even though I liked Kohh's version, she should've done a collab with Drake or someone else who is more known in the US to take it to the top... Okay agree with a lot (prisoner, if its over etc) but also dont agree with a lot. The main 2 I’ll speak on :
Migrate. Should have just been released as soon as humanly possible. The biggest mistake made of the entire era was not releasing it IMMEDIATELY.
2- TGIFY. NOW THEN. For years I have agreed the remix is superior and preferable. And we lambs often rank TGIFY as one of her “less good” number ones, AND in her #1s show she changed up the production as if to show it less respect. BUT. When that song hits you, trust me it is absolutely apparent as to how it got to #1...
you can imagine all the jocks and cheerleaders singing it on a hot summers day outside their car or like.. whatever 😂 it IS a vain and shallow song (obviously not lyrically).. but I feel it appeals massively to the blondes of the world. Nicole Richie loves it for example. I just think that is like SUCH a great example of a 1999 lovesong, its so pretty. For some reason some lambs compare it to OSD... :S theyre entirely separate. For years the song was one of my lesser favourites and it just literally hit me one day! I was like OH... I’m really hearing the “number one” in it now... it would be a mistake to lose it. Truuust me

It truly does touch you, I remember replaying that song over and over on the trip I got obessed with Rainbow, without even knowing it was one of her number ones, and getting lowkey emotional everytime.

First of all thank you so much for this video. In Daydream era I would have replaced Open Arms with Melt Away. Melt Away is such a beautiful underrated jam and her vocals there are top-notch. In butterfly the roof I don't like that song I could have added fourth of July or the beautiful ones. On TEOM era I love Mine Again ❤️

Honestly, I think E=MC² should've been handled completely differently...this would've been the more logical, and in my opinion more successful order of singles that should've been released:
1. Touch My Body - Got everyone's attention and did exactly what it needed to do. There's a reason why the album sold as well as it did on its first week and this is why.
2. 4real4real - The WAY better ballad when compared to Bye Bye. How was this not included on the main release of the album???? Her label really slept on this one and without Da Brat (considering she wasn't pumping out hits anymore and therefore a chart liability) would've had good Top 5 or even #1 potential if promoted properly. I would've either had the song be recorded as a solo Mariah song or have a more current feature to help with the overall chart position.
3. Migrate - An OBVIOUS misstep considering how positively it was received by the general public. This should have been a single and would've easily made the Top 20. It was current for its time and had a lot more potential to be successful than "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time".
4. Thanx 4 Nothin' or Side Effects - A good closer to the era and sonically more superior to "I Stay In Love". I think it would've had a tough time breaking Top 40 just because ballads had a much harder time charting high around this time. However, I do think it would definitely chart and would've therefore outperformed "I Stay In Love". Alternatively, "Side Effects" would have also made a good closer and with the proper video involving her marriage to Tommy Mottola it would've charted simply because of the controversy regarding the subject matter.
It's just sad that an era with so many good songs and great single choices ended up never reaching its full potential because songs that were FIRE weren't on the record or were just ignored as album cuts over subpar songs that are good album cuts but not good singles that were overlooked by the general public.
I would have to disagree because prisoner was recorded like maybe two years earlier so by the time the album came out out prison was already dated her prisoner came out like maybe 87-88 yes
I still wonder why UTS is underrated
in memoirs she kinda did have another without you moment , just not in usa but anyway it ran 27 weeks or 28 on brazil chart #1 spot , longest in history I think

I don't think it would have been a good single. Not only is it a lesser Can´t Let Go but the whistles are _identical_ to Love Takes Time. I'm sure if So Cold didn't have a 45 second intro (something more like 10s) it could have been a good nightclub hit (not sure if #1 material necessarily though).

I think Miss You Most should stay where it is on the rollout for Merry Christmas, personally I love it and it's my favorite on the album. Forever should definitely not be replaced by Melt Away on Daydream...
I LOVE Clown and definitely think it should've been a single on Charmbracelet. Glitter was a mess with single releases but I do agree that Reflections should've been amongst them. Finally, someone is appreciating the song Heat from E=MC2! It's honestly so good and shows a different side of Mariah. Me, I am Mariah's singles were alright but there's definitely some better ones, I agree that Faded should be one but I actually do like You're Mine and The Art of Letting Go. I perosnally don't think Thirsty would've been the best for her to release. Caution...A No No and With You were great but GTFO and The Distance were no no's (haha). I understand she wanted the publicity of having Ty Dolla Sign on there but they don't represent the album well, 8th Grade should've replaced one of them.
the only problem about christmas songs is the general reception of christmas songs to be happier, miss you most is a very melancholic one and I love it but too bad barely anyone appreciates it

I took 'Sliping Away' as a single even if it was not realese on the album because for me, it should be and I took off the balads because I think they was'nt necessary singles. And I think it's too bad that 'Long Ago' was'nt realesed as a single because it had potential. This songs sounds like Britney Spears but 4 years before her.

For me, the debut of the single era was perfect and then, it was not, like, realy bad but it could be better. For me, 'Stay The Night' and 'Fly Like A Bird' had more potential than 'Say Somethin''. And I think 'Get Your Number' could be a realy good single.

In my opinion, it is the baddest single choice of all. The label took the good singles but not in the good moment. I think 'More Than Just Friend' could introduce the album just like 'It's Like That' for TEOM. With a good remix, maybe it would have a pretty good place in the chats. And then, 'Obsessed' would come and could be THE single of the album just like 'We Belong Together' for TEOM. I think it should not be the lead single because it gave a fake vision of the album to people. Then, 'Up Out My Face' would come to continue in the vibe of 'Obsessed and could be another hit for Mariah. After That, 'H.A.T.E.U.' could come and introduce the public to ballads singles. And these last singles ('Angels Cry' and 'I Want To Know What Love Is') would help to sell the album to his real public.

After that, 'Dedicated', 'Faded' and 'Make It Look Good' could come and have a little sucess.

In my opinion 'The distance' should get more promotion and 'GTFO', even if it is a realy good song, sould'nt be a single. Then - *Unpopilar Opinion* - I think 'Caution' would be a great single because it had a contemporary production, and, with a great music video, it could be lil hit for Mariah. And last, 'Runway. I think everyone agree with me so, no need to explain.
Exept That, I agree with you on all the selection, particulary on 'Now That I Know' and 'E=MC2' even if I would add 'I'm That Chick'

Fly like a Bird hands down should've come out after We Belong Together!! It's the best on the album but We Belong Together should stay the lead single because it was very good for it's time and was incredibly successful.

I believe Babydoll could’ve been a better single release for the Butterfly era! That song literally has late 90s/early 2000s vibes without a doubt.

For TEOM era, wouldnt it be smarter to release Shake it Off before We Belong Together? Would be thrilled to see Shake if Off not be blocked by WBT and hit the no. 1 spot.
For me also, for release of singles, I think it's best if the lead single would be a strong one, yet well balanced of the album to give an expectation for the overall idea of the album. Like A No No has lyrics, and yet it is quite repetitive so it is a strong one to me. Ya GTFO should've been the third

I feel like DMTTYO deserves single-worthy on Glitter 😕😕😕
I think we all have different opinions about this lol. I personally think All In Your Mind was a better single material than Prisoner. Till The End Of Time was also a better single material than If It's Over. I would change Open Arms with Melt Away, and let Forever stay. Besides Whenever You Call, Babydoll was also a great single material.
And yes, Glitter was the messiest in terms of singles choices. She should've released All My Life after Loverboy (and removed Last Night A DJ Saved My Life from the soundtrack, as it was a horrible track that served no purpose to be there lol). As for Charmbracelet, You Got Me was a better debut single, and Through The Rain would've been a great second single, followed by The One and Boy (I Need You). Migrate should've also been released the moment it charted on Billboard without any promotion. H.A.T.E.U could've had a much better music video, and Up Out My Face and IWTKWLI could've been replaced by It's A Wrap and The Impossible.
Thirsty was also a better second single than You're Mine, followed by Faded and YDKWTD as the next singles. For me, personally, The Distance was a proper debut single for Caution as it had a 2018 sound, then followed by 8th Grade and A No No as the next singles and Caution as the last single. I agree with Music Box, and i think Rainbow and TEOM had the best singles.

To be honest I think Mariah sometimes blames the record label, but right now she has the power to choose the singles and what songs she's doing a video for. She has enough money and contacts in the business to 'make it happen'. Even if she had to take money out of her pocket to make a video for whatever song she wants to become a single. I still remember when she released the Me I am Mariah album and as soon as she released she gave up, focusing her attention on some random butterfly water. C'mon Mimi, we all know you can do it, you just need to pull your shit together!!!! We still love you, we just need you to not miss any opportunity!!!!

Glitter's singles should be Lead the way, NTF and OHOMO. The rest of the album is her worst material of all time.
With Rainbow, Daydream and Butterfly, the choice of singles was the best but the promotion wasn't good for UTS, Forever, Breakdown, Butterfly, Roof, CTTA/Crybaby. Besides, TGIFY seeks no replacement. Both the song and the make it last remix are great. Don't know why lambs hate it.
Instead of Prisoner, TGTBAW or Vanishong or HWGAA should be present
