- Flash based and HDD camcorders were probably the worst type of camera. Anything that you can not remove the memory from can mean total loss if the unit fails, or if you lose the power supply.

Wow, I was expecting the camera to power up from the USB. One of the USB Sockets / ports on the laptop should have a blue tongue, this is specifically for powering external devices, up to 2.5 Amps.
Almost all Lithium batteries are "CHIPED", the best ones have 2 two Chips. The WO1 Charge Controller (Iin) and another chip for controlling Current OUT (Iout).
They stop the battery from exploding into a fireball and burning down your house.
Typically, the centre pin is one side of a Thyrister, temperature management.
If you had payed better attention to your PSU, the camera needed more than 8.5volts, (likely 8.80). Battery Voltage is Not a good indication of system requirements, anymore. Boost and Buck Regulators, Joule Thief and the like.
The last handy cam I worked on c.2008, actually had a microSD soldered internally, + the external SD/TF slot.
Go with almost a full charge, especially when you’re taking files off. You don’t want the camera to die when your files are moving over.
The microcenter branded USB sticks are still pretty cheap, but that doesn't help you guys out much up in Canada
I only use Kingston and lexar.
Beautiful work. I hate these proprietary power supplies that are typically just fractions of a millimeter out of spec with standards. Cheekier than the center-negative designs. Also I hate devices like this that complain and shut off due to low battery even when connected to mains power. I've run into the same thing with old iPods. Like yeah, of course the battery is low, it's like 20 years old and just doesn't hold a charge anymore! But we've got _some kind of power_ , so just gimme my data!
is it possible to copy the internal files to the devices memory card? Easy to transfer to PC via the memory card.
Some cameras you can.
My Sony for example I can copy from internal memory or memory stick to a DVD or avchd format disk. I can pick the scenes I want and put them together in the order I want them to play and make a mini DVD or avchd disk in the camera. I didn't want to fart around with this one. I just wanted the files off the camera because I am not making that much to do it. This was a 40.00 job and that includes the usb stick I had to buy. I got 50 for that dv tape recovery. You would think people would pay a kings ransom to recover their tapes bit unless it is something like the Kennedy assignation most want the footage recovered but can live without little Johnny's Irish dance recital when he was 11. Of course John is now 30 and probably doesn't want a reminder of the torture his parents put him through.
If the camera does not last maybe 1 folder at a time.
When I have plugged in different sizes of plugs I had to go - for it to work
The thing is memory cards also fail in time. For a long time I haven't had a NVR for my security cameras, so I used memory cards just until yesterday. After four years of use the cameras started to lag. Everything was choppy. So I disabled the recording onto the cards and problems went away. Using Synology Surveillance Station now. I now can record over a month of footage on my 4 TB HDD.
Use high endurance cards for security cans and dash cams.
@@12voltvids Those Samsung memory cards I used were unfortunately high endurance and (also) high speed. Pretty expensive. That's why I'm trying something different and recording onto a HDD now. The advantage is if someone were to smash your camera, you would still have your recording. I can sleep safe and sound now. At least I keep telling myself this so I can set these unexpected expenses right with my family.
From all those connections none worked from all those ?
Another good video
5 big boxes from Toronto arrived today. Wonderful.
They use to sell a device call mobile junkie . It was able to transfer anything from your phone to a memory card USB or SD card using Bluetooth or internet it was fairly cheap to less than 40$ sadly I can't find anything like it anymore and its not sold. You all so were able to share it wireless to it did movie and music to. Was great for iPhone because you didn't need I tunes for it. It also was a portable battery pack to if needed. Iv done similar thing to use electrical products very nice some one finely made a video do this.
Man you need a ThinkPad for a upgrade l530or w530 are great 👍 👌 ✌️💯
Lots of things I need but I have a real problem with money. Its not that I don't have any, I just hate spending it.
@12voltvids I no exactly what mean. I fix laptop from time to time. I only suggested it. because of the amount of different port and speed option they have and lots of different capabilities the ThinkPad. My be if your interested maybe we can trade 🤔Iv got quite a few plate amplifier bash and validyon? Not spell right anyway that need work that iv seen you repair on your channel. I would mind trade for a ThinkPad if interested. Have a good 1till the next 1👍💯🫡
I found that your Dell Laptop was a model that came out in 2010. Depending on what processor you have { i5 or i7 } It had very good reviews via the public. On that camera mini usb came out in 2005 with a slow speed of 480 Mbits per second
Here's the rate {8 megabits = 1 megabyte. 8 Mb = 1 MB.} So 480Mbit = 60MB which is pretty Slow if dealing with Gigabyte files. Cheers Dave...
I bought it used in 2013. Would have been leased by a company and rolled after 3 years. We roll our laptops at work every 3 years. I had the exact same one at work 2010 to 2013. Then an hp, then another hp and now a Lenovo.
I have the same laptop he has..the Dell E6410...i5 model...Battery is completely flat. Considering it can run windows 10 and can smoothly browse the web, I'd say it's holding up well
@@12voltvids Yep HP also was a great unit as I have a refurbished one I bought from London drugs - A really well built unit The Elite book 8460P All metal - a bit on the chunky side but a real work horse, I can't say that for apple as they have tried with a lot of Oopses and Bad designs.
I agree about what you said about all hardware soldered on board like all this generation is coming out in Laptops / Once it breaks 80% of the time it's finished for good and your data is gone forever.
@@ThatOneTruckGuy As long as you have a machine that you have access to the hard drive and memory that are not soldered on board you should be fine.
@@lawrencecavens5760 Well, hold up a second when you say "hard drive". HDDs are three-legged donkeys when it comes to read/write speeds. A simple SSD swap can really reap rewards even when it comes to just using an old computer as an office machine, a web browsing machine, or a data recovery machine.
If all else had failed, I would have ripped the camcorder open and soldered directly to the positive and ground from the power jack to power it up in order to recover the data.
That wouldn't have worked. Battery needs to communicate with the center terminal
@@12voltvids yeah, it's a little annoying they designed it that way. Thankfully on this one it looks like the cell held just enough of a charge to get it to stay on near the end.
Well I guess you will plug your laptop into power next time.
Why didn't they just buy a new power cord? There must be a replacement available. Or adapter replacement..whatever.
I tried to power it up, the power jack is also dead
@@12voltvidsIvr always hated that older larger mini usb connectors it would break on blackberry i rememebrr we got one set up for usb tethering and it broke. Thats what I was wondering to is why people didnt get a memory card ?
@@12voltvidsI also was upset with nintendo when they switched from regular sd to microsd
@@12voltvidsdid you know samsung is banned in Japan after infringing on sony and panasonic pannel tech?
@@stpworldthat's funny considering that sammy supplies panels for suny
Bottlenecked because of the camera
I would never buy Samsung always go Panasonic cameras they’re fantastic even in low light.
Sony the one and only. Everything else is crap.
You have got to be careful with cheap memory sticks some are hacked and report a large capacity when in fact the actual size is a fraction of what's stated
Don't but ebay or Amazon.
I've had a run from Wish.
Pk of 3 x 128gig.
My computer running Linux, read them as "multi partition". 4 x 32gig.
My cameras could only see 1 x 32gig. A firmware update and they could see 4 Folders of 32gig.
Pentax 645, Canon 7D, Canon 65, Nikon pas.
@@12voltvids Amazon is mostly perfectly fine when you make sure to buy from the [insert brand name here] Store. Sure, some counterfeits _can_ occasionally make their way into the same warehouse bins, but mostly not.
USB, yet no USB power.
Nope. If it was a sony that would have been yes
