    Recently I started kinda copying your servicing workflow. I no longer disassemble things to more extent than needed. In the past I would remove almost all the gears from the machine, try to lubricate them and put everything back together. Nowadays I value my time more, this works just as well. In the end nothing must stick, that is all that really matters.

    All couriers like to cause as much damage as possible, if you apply
    "Fragile" tape that is a red flag for them to see how far they can throw it.
    I gave up a few years ago accepting laserdisc players that were sent to me
    via any courier, they would more often than not arrived damaged, now you
    can't even buy the parts to repair the damage with.

    So the grease used on VCR's mechanism is called White Lithium Grease (26:16). I didn't know that. Back then in the late 1980s as an amateur without much knowledge about troubleshooting when I noticed that the grease of the motor's worm gear of the Betamax loading mechanism appeared dried up with almost nothing left I applied some automotive grease and the result was disastrous because it won't eject anymore. The viscosity was too thick for the motor's torque.

    What id i just screw up with my JVC vcr? i removed and cleaned the mode switch (using CRC 2-26 which does good job on scracthy pots), put the mode swith back with 2 arrows pointing to each other, installed the mechanism. Now when i insert a tape, it immidiately starts rolling the tape at 1,5x play speed and then shuts down. If i turn it on with tape inside, also it starts turning the tape immidiately and then shuts down

    I'm sure they can do a lot of damage dropping things. You wouldn't want them to drop a laser printer, either. The mirrors might shift in the Laser/Scanner module. Then your printer will print a giant streak down the page.

    If the thing I'm shipping is the least bit fragile, I build a shipping box. Composite layers of cardboard and styrofoam panels glued together, protecting the multiple layers of bubble wrap wrapping the object. No problems yet.

      At this point you'd have to pack anything fragile in one of those hard coolers, along with lots of bubble wrap. They could probably pound on it with a baseball bat, and their nose would be more damaged by the rebound than the item itself.

      @12voltvids  18 дней назад +1

      No! It was on backwards from a prior service. It really doesn't make any difference anyway because the only purpose of that bracket is to stop the top from bowing Inwards in the event that something heavy was put on top preventing the front loader from operating it's just structural support and can Go on Either Way but the correct way is The Way I put it back on because it's supporting the Plastic on the front so that it doesn't deform if something Heavy is placed on it. People had a tendency to stack things on top of their VCR. Since the cabinet says these late models were so flimsy just looking at them can bend them they put a little extra support Over the tape compartment

      @@12voltvids Yeah, you could spend your life digitizing old analog tapes of old junk that no one cares about, and will never watch again, or, you could just go download the whole run of the show in 15 minutes, store it on a hard drive, and never watch it again either! Both are pointless in the end, but one of them eats up your entire life in the process! Even with "home movies" that you can't download, you'll digitize them, and then never watch them again! But you'll waste your life and money managing hard drives, and backups, just to never watch any of it anyway. The whole thing is a fool's errand! Unless you pack the item(s) to survive an Armageddon you can forget any hope of it arriving in perfect condition 🥲🥲 I used to work for a few manufacturers and we never had any problems, but we had access to the original factory boxes and packed them for ww 20 lol.
