    Love Seikos but my enthusiasm is waning as prices climb and movements remain underwhelming. Time to provide better movements and while at it state and live up to better accuracy ranges. But not holding my breath- the ridiculous price increases in luxury brands allows Seiko to increase prices without addressing movement weaknesses. AND as usual a thoughtful review!

    Just bought the red dial king seiko, and I thought looong and hard about buying it. I wished it came with a better movment but the moment is certainly not terrible, just ok. But everything else is literally AMAZING. THE BRACELET, THE FINISHING, THE INDEXES, THE DIAL, THE SIZE!!! just amazing and imo makes up for the average movment. Agreed on all counts. It's a solid business / brand move, but probably not so much for enthusiasts...bc for us, we've got for instance Monta and Formex both at this price-point and with +/- 5 seconds accuracy from the former and COSC from the latter, plus higher level finishing and so much more, then like Junghans, Nomos, etc. So yeah, if we wanna step it up from there we're probably going to keep saving and go Grand Seiko, and stick to Prospex / Presage and all for collectable affordables.

    King Seiko will be at the Longines/Tudor level I will think. I actually quite like this watch. Seiko is reaching too high being at the 5k level which they did with a spring drive watch a time ago. Having King Seiko in between is a good idea in my opinion.

    I really want one of these, but not at 1.7K with the 6R movement. Although I am glad they went with a solid case back, that movement is not acceptable in the price range. You could get a COSC Longines or similar in the price point this watch is competing in. I have a SPB243 with the 6R35 movement, from new it ran at around -45 to -55 seconds/day. I sent it to Seiko under warranty, got it back with smudges on the dial and rotor and it still runs at about -25 spd, outside of their "promised" parameters.

      I recently purchased the red dial, it's beutiful, genuinely gorgeous! The dial and indexes finishing is amazing. Especially the 12 oclock index is identical to the limited release KS which is so intricate and for 1700$ I'd say it's worth it because your getting finishing that better than any presage and extremely close to a GS. The movement is average but it's certainly not a bad movement. And the very thing polished segment on the bezel is done so well lowlife zero distortion on that segment specifically. The bracelet is amazing, and the size is vintage.

    When it comes to the 6r, they don't underpromise and overdeliver. That movement can be all over the place. They should have put a 6l in this. Then the inside becomes commensurate with the exterior. Putting a 6r in this makes no sense. I don't think these are gonna sell well.

  • @jacktyler5241
    @jacktyler5241 Год назад

    Perhaps it’s just anecdotal, but I’m not sure I agree with the “under promise and over deliver” on the movement. 3 watches with 6r movements myself and they’ve all been awful in terms of timekeeping. Close or outside of accepted tolerances, not taking long to return to poor timekeeping after regulation and servicing.
    And I’m not the only one with that story. 6r family movements just don’t seem great. So I agree with you, that when you’re paying closer to 1.5k/2k seiko need to deliver more on the movement front.
    It’s a real shame, because I love this watch and other cases carrying a 6r. The movement just sucks for the price.

    Great idea but a major failure for a Seiko fan, easily over $500 more than it should be. I'd like to see King Seiko bring a different movement to the market, something thinner for sure. In two minds about the bracelet as it's a visual improvement, I'd still like to see something a little more sleek, a more thoughtful clasp and maybe even a half link?

      @dgbucko Год назад +1

      Yeah. I have seen a lot of overreaction to the movement but mine arrived yesterday and was at about -17. I have just adjusted it to +10 face up and I expect that with 8 or 9 hours in the watch-box, face up, I will be at about +2 or +3, which will be perfect, but out the box, -17 isn't really good enough. I paid UK1000 which is about 1200 dollars and the watch is stellar for that money. I also have a 54 year old KS45-7000 and it is really tight in all directions and running at +2, and is clearly a much better movement. The new KS is great, but it did deserve a chronometer, like the originals had.

    Just received my red dial watch. Stunning in person! The case work is great to look at. A lot right going on. In the sun , the dial pops . The bracelet looks great on the watch. The movement? Could have been better. Over all a home run! It will sit next to my GS s

    Nice looking watch but those release levers on the clasp Protrude out way to much.

    They should have used a 6L movement to give more respect to the King Seiko name. But if they did, the price point would have gone up to $2k+. To me, that would be fine but I’m pretty sure there’d be a lot more whiners. Beautiful watch.

    Thanks for stating the obvious…6L35 or 4S35 would have made it a home run! That is why I won’t be purchasing one with a pedestrian 6R movement.

    37 diameter case with a 12.3 height is a hard pass for me. Seiko, GS, Omega, and now King Seiko are always delivering watches that are too thick. This should be 10.3mm tall.

      You really need to try it on your wrist. It wears like 10mm thick. Forget about the spex... I wear formal shirts and this watch disappears under the sleeve.
