I completly agree with you about the movement. I dont mind in my Willard, it make's it even more vintage but King Seiko Is KING so he deserve a better movement. With a better movement this line would be more than a Presage with angular shape. btw your wife segment is so funny/true.

I’m a sucker for King Seiko 🤩😍!! Love their designs from the 70’s!!! I somehow found myself owning 3 KS, from 1973, 74’ and ‘75. They all have the SMOOTHEST seconds hand movement ever!
Nice review, as usual 🙂 Regarding the movement complain: It's not the frequency that is "out of place" for a King Seiko (after all, the first KS back in the 60's had lower beating calibers). It's the quality and the accuracy that matters! A 6R in by no means a proper movement for a "King".....
I bought the red dial version of the king. It is a watch you need to see in person, handle it. Really a stunner of a watch........ waiting for a better movement. Very much like my sarx055, 057. Better motor please. The measured size is deceptive. Looks larger because of the case and bracelet integration. Fits my 7.25 in wrist well. I payed much less than retail so I can't complain about the value.
When I visited the Seiko store (with Grand Seiko), this King Seiko was the one that drew me in the most! I found it more attractive than Grand Seiko. 😁
Seiko definitely needs a mid tier 4hz movement. Something along the lines of the miyota 9000 series. But Swatch group putting different versions of it's powermatic 80 movement in many of their watches in the $1,000 price point makes it look more acceptable. Taking a 4hz movement and slowing it down to get more power reserve seems silly.
Great video as always Russ. Too small for me, my sla043 is 40mm and I'm considering selling that , as it's still a tad small. Prefer a 42mm for me as I've got 7 and a half inch wrists. Yep I think I am selling my beloved sla043. Probably regret it, lol.
Great review and great watch. I plan to pick one up but my local AD hasn't got any in yet, save for the limited edition purple one. Only improvement they should do, is add in the 6L or 8L movement. I have two Marine Masters that use the 8L and thats an amazing movement, 28,000 bph, perfect sweep.
I like it! But agree with you on the movement at that price. Too dressy and too small for me personally, so it would never get worn, but I do like the look of it. Great review as always!
Ha, I agree with your wife Russ. Love her comments, especially the "old man strap". Too expensive for what you get. Did you see the orange NASA G Shock that dropped today. Multi band 6, tough solar, positive display and ORANGE at $170 USD. I ordered one as soon as I got the text. I bet your wife will give it thumbs up.
I totally agree with you, great size, nice dial, even like the bracelet and can live without lume - but not enough Hz. Btw, could you please show Mr. Pagani's family crest? :-D
Enjoyable review Russ. and as someone on the show says, "I like it"! For me the lume is not too important as I feel its 100% dress watch material. The bracelet looks excellent James Bondish even, No date window "good," I dislike date windows, horrible little aperture's. But was shocked when you said the tick is the same as the Seiko SAK809. Not good. Price, I would see if one comes up on eBay in a year or so.

As far as i know GS and KS were both founded by Seiko in order to compete each other in making the best watches. The "winner" would then be put up against the swiss. That way by declaring GS their top-of-the-line brand (Credor didn't exist back then) KS had already lost and, as much as i like the vintage KS pieces, the question remains why bring back the second best contender? Nice video as always, thanks for the entertainment. 👍
Yeah and unfortunately 2 grand more expensive! I’m not sure they are in touch with us Seiko fans y’know aaaaand are possibly over valuing there movements ?
It's really nice if you're after something from the 1970s without the ball ache of a vintage watch, but outside of that? Don't know. Anyway, isn't that movement the same as my Seiko Alpinist SPB117?
I really love the look of this King Seiko but no lume!? I know it’s more on the dressy side but surely everybody loves a bit of lume? The lack of lume combined with the lower beat rate movement for this kind of money and the odd lug width means this is one I’m happy to admire from afar. Fantastic show as always MWC 👏👏👏👏
What does $ cost have to do with the HZ a watch operates at. Seriously. So you wouldn't buy an FP Journe at retail? Come off it people what is the matter here.
Completely with you in the admiration department but why do you need lume on a dress watch? A watch you probably wear at night, in bars, picking up ladies. If successful, are you timing how long the boink takes? 🤣🤣🤣
@@JayandSarah FP Journe undoubtedly has other qualities then beat rate. A Seiko, no matter what branch of company, is only a Seiko and therefor needs to win on specs. Like beat rate.

Nice review. Thanks! I have been incredibly lucky finding a vintage King Seiko. Maybe look for an old one yourself? Also, I was also happy to find a king quartz at what appears to be a super cheap price. I think the latter are fabulous, and you really only see the quality of the fit and finish in real life, I feel? Don’t dismiss the king quartz bargains!
Seiko have alot strenght in producing beautiful looking watches . But if it is not QC issues they cut in other areas like this time like you say the movement . Unless you want a GS Seiko , the G stands Grands as in ( thousands ) . Great review & I chuckled at your wifes views 🥳🙌👍
Absolutely love that it has no date and no lume! I’m a wee bit lumed out. If that’s a word 🤷🏼♂️ Unfortunately I can’t buy one right now. My next victim is a CWC Reissue (what does the wife think of those?). But I have seen the KS silver sunburst and it is magnificent! I agree about the movement but this watch is too juicy to let a little thing like that drive it off my list! My bank account weeps…Long live the King! 👑
This is one of the problems I've had with Seiko lately: The bang for the buck just isn't there. 1400 pounds is about $1750 US right now, and I don't think that movement justifies it.
I love this piece! But prefer my KS inspired Halios Universa bc it's thinner, has an SW210 manual wind, and the quick adjust button on the outside of the clasp.
There are many more expensive watches that use movements with less than 4hz eg. Omega movements are 3.5hz. I agree with you that for the price SEIKO charged for this watch, I expect better quality movements, however, not necessary have to be 4hz movements.
I would have buy a King Seiko reissue with 18mm lugs width and a higher grade movement. Changes between presage aren't enough to justify it, and will be satisfied with my presage sarx055 and my two vintage Seiko 45-7001 and 4402-8000. Looks forward to see more king Seiko reissues, great video as always ☺️
Why oh why, do Seiko always have visible gaps between the lugs and end links? There is always a little bit of movement. Like the factory does not have a micrometer...
Very nice video once again! The price on this piece is way off for the movement it has. Also there's a lot of dust or some dirt on indices. Seems like the QC issues continue to bother even the King line-up.
Hmm idk tbh i mean i have some old KS in the Japanese part of my collection like some KS vanac, Gen 1 ks, Ks chronometer and ks superior chronometer and even do its a nice watch whats the point when you could buy a nice original 37mm ks with a hi-beat movement cheaper.
Mr Pagani was hilarious 👍. I'm not worried about the beat rate, I am not convinced 4Hz is necessarily more accurate, but I am sure 3Hz will last longer due to less stress and wear to components. However, it is too expensive and the lugs look too long to me.
I don’t like the 3hz sweep my friend, it looks cheap like a Vostok!;) accuracy of the 6L is still plus minus 15/20 seconds I think still! I’m not sure they are in touch with us Seiko lovers like the Swiss brands like Hamilton are with there fan base ;)
YES! Mr. Pagani keeps me coming back . Get the poor chap an air-conditioner . And the wife really has good taste in watches ( so do you buddy) . Good show ....

Great review Russ and I couldn't agree more with you. For the same reasons you noted, mostly the inferior movement, this is a hard pass for me... cheers mate 👍
As the 3hz movement doesn’t bother me in divers or tool watches, in a dress watch at this price point is a little poor. The case is fab, however the dial I find a little uninspiring. Fab review as always 😊
Lovely looking watch and great vintage vibe strap, but no lume that’s rubbish. They could have painted the underside of the hands , it’s been done before and works as it gives of enough light the read the hands .
Totally agree, with that price point with 6R 3Hz movement, I think it is well below expectations. King Seiko always has hi-beat movement. This is a downgrade KS. IMO. Thanks for sharing.
If I want a dressy Seiko watch I'd buy one of the presage models for a lot less money instead. Yes the king Seiko has that modern vintage look, but for me that's the only thing that's going for it. For that kind of money, at the very least, I would expect the 6R46 that's found in the sharp edge GMT series, that has 28,800bph. I'm aware the 6R46 has the GMT feature but don't see why Seiko cant change it so it doesn't have the GMT but still beats at 28,800bph. Thinking about it, the sharp edge GMT sounds like a better watch personally, it might not have the same fit or finish as the King, but it pretty much ticks all I would want in a dressy watch tbh. Bringing back the King Seiko name, they really should've come out with a bang.
I feel they could of made this watch feel a little more special by adding a real gold king seiko emblem on the case back just like the originals had, that would of been really cool. Strap looks nice but 19mm?!? Cmon why?? I much prefer the re issue of the 44 ks. Brilliant work as always though russ, looking forward to the next one 👍👌
I can’t believe they have made a king seiko with a 6r movement. They used to have so many movements , high beat and interesting ones. Now they stick the 4r in all the cheapest watches and the 6r in anything above that until you get to the top end. Yes there are some cheaper watches with the 6l35 and the gmt 6r64 but I don’t think there are any reasonably priced watches with the 8l movements.
I can handle a 3hz if it’s accurate but sadly from my experience they are 3 hz and terribly inaccurate to boot. Like you say they just do it to boost the power reserve which quite frankly no one really cares about. Setting the time and giving it a little wind is something I actually like doing tbh. Give me 4hz and something that can come close to a Swiss movement and people would find a far for appealing prospect. Why Seiko can’t get something anywhere near COSC from the factory is really frustrating. I’ve had my 6R35 movement regulated and after a month it has drifted back to being +25s a day 🤦🏼
Wtf did they not put the 6L in this thing as the price would suggest! Seiko are on glue and a strong one at that! you will see big discounts on these in moths to come. The pricing strategy is becoming like cruise ship invicta pricing strategy! Great review though mate love your content.
There's really a lot for going for this but agreed on the movement, needed to be high beat and also, 19mm lugs, come on Seiko. I wouldn't mind if the bracelet had a clasp you could fine tune but it needed to be 20mm. Great work with the review as always
I grew up in London in the early 80’s and remember if the temps hit 80 degrees the parks were full of pale people. What’s going on now it’s 104? Wish the city well

I’ve had my 6R35 movement regulated and after a month it has drifted back to being +25s a day 🤦🏼
Your doorbells is driving my dog crazy!
Sorry David!!! Sorry dog!!!!
Wtf did they not put the 6L in this thing as the price would suggest! Seiko are on glue and a strong one at that! you will see big discounts on these in moths to come. The pricing strategy is becoming like cruise ship invicta pricing strategy! Great review though mate love your content.
Hahahahaha although these buggers won’t go down 85% ever!;)
6L35 movement should have been in this. Other than that it’s great.
Yeah agree but it would’ve been 3 grand!!!
The wife is right. almost GS but more 5 series.
6R3X family of movements found in sub-$1k Prospex family watches is a bit cheeky to be putting into something like this at this price.
Agree my friend!
Lovely looker but I’d take a sharp edge presage and keep the £550 difference.
Agree!
There's really a lot for going for this but agreed on the movement, needed to be high beat and also, 19mm lugs, come on Seiko. I wouldn't mind if the bracelet had a clasp you could fine tune but it needed to be 20mm. Great work with the review as always
Thank you once again for watching my friend! Appreciate that! Sometimes it feels Seiko do no market research !!???
I stopped at 6R31 movement...
Great video though
I grew up in London in the early 80’s and remember if the temps hit 80 degrees the parks were full of pale people. What’s going on now it’s 104? Wish the city well
