I bought the red dial version as a JDM. Payed less than $1300 shipped. Not wild about the movement, but I have this in other seikos. Most run a bit fast. One is very accurate. Haven't broken one yet. If they had put a nicer movement it would be a very nice watch. The case is well done. Angles...brushing.... polishing. I like how it looks with that bracelet. It is super comfortable. The red sunburst dial pops in the sun. Over all I am pleased with it.
What Seiko doesn't seem to know as you can actually get the bracelet professionally Polished by a jeweler like you would yellow or white gold. I have the red dial as well.
*Fair point, however from the manufacturer’s point-of-view, going “upscale” requires this strategy. Most customers will likely not care; watch enthusiasts who do, are a minority of the buyers. As a comparison, Omega and Rolex retail prices have a higher price:cost ratio. As a percentage of the retail price, Omega & Rolex spend less to make a watch than does Seiko for this model.*
Great review. All of cons you mentioned is why I didn’t purchase the watch. Seiko should’ve made the bracelet links slightly larger and then offered half links so that the wearer could get a more precise fit. The male end link protruding out like that is a deal killer too.
I have the black, silver, and red dial variants in my collection. In my opinion they are worth the retail price, though most can be obtained for a bit less. I own many Seikos from a few Grands to the starting Presage and Prospex models and the Kings are some of my most revered
@@oysterperfectual3475 I would say first the red, then silver (not the metallic silver, but the sunburst), then the black. I find myself wearing the red most often, because in many lighting situations, it is a very subdued, almost dark gray or black hue but then in certain lighting the deep cherry or merlot red comes out in the sunburst texture, and it’s great.
Beautiful watch but I agree with your comments about the negatives. It's why I haven't pulled the trigger on buying one. Seiko, I hope you watch this video and listen.
I think you're a bit rough on this watch :) Case finishing and dial is really good. Downgraded 6R31 movement solves the date change problems. (There isn't instant date change on 6R movements) Price wise it is competes with Oris Big Crown 38mm
Because the powermatic keeps good time, with limited positional variance, decent isochronism and reliable regulation? More than the quirky 6R35 can claim, with its afterthought, slap-dash 70hrs power reserve.
I'd wish for a gold PVD King Seiko with a better movement. My issue is that I want the SBGH271 to wear during summer, love the theme + love the green dial + love the gold markers - stainless steel, I find that gold wears better during summer. So a gold King seiko PVD would be a good middle ground since gold GS are scarce and in the 20k range.
I’ve already bought the purple King Seiko. It’s so shining like GS. Many people looked at my hand when wearing it,so shining. I don’t care for its 6R movement. If it comes with 8L movement, its price will be too high. I will buy GS instead 😂
It does grab attention. I got some comments while wearing which is rare as you know. The purple looks very nice! I was thinking about that one. Maybe I'll do a sell and buy in the future!
A better platform for these would have been starting with the1959 Alpinist re-Creation (SJE085)--also ~37mm, but has the 6L35--then added a KS dial and bracelet to it. Then you'd have something that's KS-worthy.
Some very very good points on the movement and price point. The case is magic but I couldn’t justify the purchase for myself at that price. Keep up the vids. Representing GTA watch enthusiasts.
I have a feeling next black Friday they'll be paying you to take these off the shelf. I anticipate some big discounts as its RRP does not reflect its market value. I respect the 6R in my MM200 but I only paid 500 for that. At near 2k its a non starter.
Kavar jewelers would not even stock this thing. I had to buy it and force them to order just 1 unit for me. Even tho I did many requests when it first released a while back because I wanted it on the channel. So maybe seiko will get the message when their large ADs do not even request it. I do love it tho hahah wearing it right now.
@@EscapementWatch I'm surprised since it's a beautiful watch at first glance. The movement is very disappointing, but that only matters for watch "enthusiasts"
Thank you pointing out the pros and cons . The Caseback and the automatic lettering is a hard pass ....keep up the great service your providing to us watchaholics
Hello ! I have a question for you , do they fixed this plastic movement holder problem in the 39mm models ? I can not find any information about it ! Thanks for the answer ,have a nice day !
Disappointment is one of the many words I have for this 'King Seiko'. The case finishing and the bracelet are great, but the fact that Seiko decided to give the 'King Seiko' a low tier 6R movement is just a slap in the face to the fans of King Seiko. This is 100% money grabber, nothing more, nothing less. Shame on you Seiko. Shame on you.
I know the 6R is a bit of a let down with this watch but I'm not going to lie and say I don't love it. This thing is gorgeous and the size is perfect imo.
I agree with you totally… Automatic? No duh! Low beat movement /Pedestrian Caliber specifications plus 15/ minus 20… This just looks like another money grab… How can you call a king Seco and have the case made in China? It’s like they have no shame! Bite me Seiko… Thanks for the great review though!
Perfect…except for the movement! Seiko disrespected the KS legacy. So glad I have my beautiful KS Special 5245-6010 go to with my KS Limited Edition SCVN001!
Not really. In the past they were both fighting to become 'grand seiko' or top dog in the company. Now its presage level or lower. Ideally it would be like tudor to rolie
Concerning. Says made in Japan on the dial and the case is actually made in China. I wonder how many lower end swiss watches have their cases made in China.
many high end swiss watch houses use china for many or just a couple parts. China can do some amazing things. There are whispers that Longines new spirit bracelet is from China. But case/dial/movement/hands are Longines swiss made.
Only way to get a Japan made case is the rare super high end models like SLA055, SLA043. Those are expensive tho with all parts made in japan. Hand assembled movements etc.
Preface: This is a comment directed at the watch community. The video quality is top notch. "ERM THE MOVEMENT IS BAD" okay, they put the 8r into one of these for $3k and none of y'all bought it. I'm tired of seikopaths wanting everything for nothing. Y'all want a better product but never want to pay for it, so when Seiko does EXACTLY what you want, but has to make a compromise, you get pissy about it. $1700 is a LOT for this, I agree. But given time, I'm confident Seiko will flesh this first gen product out.
Forgive my French, but the 6R movements are complete shitters. And, case out of point, this King Seiko is a bad joke. When is Seiko going to understand that building beautiful dials and cases to attract suckers and equipping them with low-tech, inconsistent time-keeping movements (evolutions of the flogged-to-death low grade 7s movements) will finally damage their brand? I'm through with their +$1000 6r35 offerings. Wouldn't even take them at half that price, honestly.
People need to stop bitching, if you don’t like it don’t buy it. And what movement do people suggest 6L? 8L? Add another few grand to the cost, maybe you would like it with a spring drive… ffs.
seiko dropped the ball here , they could of at least regulated the damn movement , the price is horrible given the product rather save up at that point and get a tudor

Yes I do love it. I just wish the bracelet would fit me and the movement was better! then I'd buy 2-3 different dial colors.

Agree 100%, this should be priced around $1k, no more, too many cost cutting.
Otherwise a nice reissue, but not for that price.

Those are HI Beat,vs a 6R.

At least a 6L movement, not 6R for this price point.
I would choose The Citizen series over this.
Especially Citizen ProMaster land 6080 + Sapphire Crystal + Eco Drive + Duratex Titanium + Radio Controller + 400$ 👍
Did you buy it?

Not really. In the past they were both fighting to become 'grand seiko' or top dog in the company. Now its presage level or lower. Ideally it would be like tudor to rolie
Is very hard for Seiko to fall and they do have JDM version which are strangely better.Like my Sbtm319 solar watch is a sapphire watch
For me, two problems with this watch. First is size, second movement regulation. 12 second per day, is 6 second too much😊. This watch is not cheap.
actually it does -14 12 down lol. So on the wrist it is about -2s a day lol. Thats an advantage to the wild swings in positional variance of the 6r!
that's 3 problems
