Marcus.. It's honestly so unbelievable that I've found a channel here on RUclips that with every single video catches my interests. As one can most likely see, I'm totally into watches, but also EDC, health, life organization, gadgets, etc. I've also lost a lot of weight and got fit, and I even have a software engineering background. OK, Marcus - this video has me now excited to build my own watch. What a fantastic way to not only enjoy a sweet looking timepiece but to learn all the innerworkings and then wearing it with pride. Friggin awesome. Really appreciate your inspiration. Cheers.
@@MarcusCreates how accurate was the watch? I've bought cheap watches from that part of the world and they would go minutes out a day so you have to constantly adjust them
this is actually sucha fantastic idea. Tip for lubricating gaskets (o-rings): most lubricants come with a bit of foam on the lid too, and if you put the gasket in and the lid back on, you can twist the lid so it applies an even coating of lubricant onto the gasket that's not too thick. I do hope you get into building more watches and hopefully repairing them.
I’ve built and modified a few watches now. For assembling the hands, I found a trick that helped me greatly. I use some rodico to hold the hands and align them, then I can press the hands on. For the seconds hand, I get right down to eye level with the movement where I can see the seconds pinion, then pressing it on becomes much easier.
When putting on the hand set, I would have kept the crown in the time-setting position so you could align them all at the 12 without them ticking away out from under you like we saw with the seconds hand.
@maximiliandegarnerinvonmon6457 yep but he was kind enough to film this for us; letting us see what's necessary to perform this surgery. I think he did marvelous; we are all in our own lane at our own speed... I think we all know what kinda driver you are 🎉
When you are pushing the movement rod back in the watch after the re assembly press the rod release while putting the rod back it will make the assembly easy or els it might mess the movement for sure ,I believe it have done a number in this movement already as I see. Just a advise, and I love your work
Such a nice a clean build, watch making is so relaxing and you can make a beautiful unique timepiece in the end. Just a little tip when putting the hands on, when you make your date wheel tick over to 12am i wouldn't push the key less works back in, because the time keeps ticking and when you set your hands to 12 it may be 10 minutes past 12 or however long it took you to put your hands on, happy watch making and very impressive time piece 😊
@@MarcusCreates I loved the look of the other watch you showed a few times in the video with that white dial, do you have a link for that dial that I can use on my own watch?
Thank you so much for this very informative and graphic teaching tool. It's nice to see someone who actually shows how as well as describing it. Great video, very on topic for me since, 1. My EDC is also a Submariner, 2. I am just now "designing" my own GMT by adding to a shoppingcart at AliExpress. And since you literary ask for it, I gonna offer you the thought I got about your execution. You call the case a "classic Seiko case", from my POV that is the classic Submariner case, the Classic Seikos has the Crown at 4 o'clock and the screwdown crown has a distinctly other look. To your point the caseback is Seiko style, the Sub as you know is very plain. You did a really nice job finding the date shift by turning the crown wheel really slow until date flipped over but after that you push in the crown with that starting the watch and with that distorting the great job done making the minute hand move while setting up hourhand. But othervise, really loved the video! Keep up the good work, I just started to follow your channel!
that inflatable ball is really a discovery, I thought the wrench is the only way to go about opening watches and was going to order one. But obviously the ball is gentler option

Don't stick your finger in the gasket lube. Don't place the new gasket on the table. Even if it hasn't been lubed yet tiny particles will contaminate the gasket. Someone already mentioned to use threadlocker on the crown. I'd use blue. I'd also suggest you get Rodico for cleaning specks of dust off the dial, crystal and movement. Missing chapter ring. Missing movement spacer to stop the face touching the date wheel. Missing the "fixing" of the face to the movement (normally levers or screws to hold it together) Missing the movement fixings in the rear to secure it in the case. Leave the stem pulled to the "out" position when placing on the hands as the watch is still ticking otherwise. Use rodico to remove specs from face/glass. Use lock-tite on the crown and file down the stem after cutting. Do all that and you've got yourself a fine watch.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on *amzwatch* 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the MAMACOO, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
Nice to see you build a watch. It really needs a chapter ring though. I've built quite a few watches, usually just ideas on what I think would make a nice watch. I only use Seiko branded dials if I'm modifying an actual Seiko. If I'm building one from just parts off AliX I don't like to have Seiko on the dial, even if I'm using a Seiko/SII movement.
Thanks for the tips! I didn’t even know there was such as thing as a chapter ring until after I made this and a couple of folks mentioned it. I might add one.
absolutely inspiring I think this is my next hobby! so question on these DIY watch builds with automatic movement. When the movement stops working...do you just replace it? My hesitation with any automatic movement is that over time service costs far outpace the value of the watch itself...
Well done all you need now is a Jewelers Eye Loupe Loop Magnifier Monocular makes them small things easy to see when installing hands. Also using a little rodico to hold the hands. It is a brilliant cleaner. Did not see how you used the Oring lube. Bit there should be a soft material in the lid you drop the ring in put the lid on and tighten it then you have an even amount all over the ring. some good plastic pointed tweezers come in very handy. Next time you may like to get a watch dial with no name on it. You can get the letters to put your own name on it or you can buy with the name already on it. So well done keep it up. But let's be honest here People out there. The video is 18: 06 minutes long. But people it is not that short of a job.
I was a full-time student. I just graduated and I’m looking to get into grad school so I don’t have much funds. So I just might try this out and hopefully get it right. I would really like a nice watch, but I just can’t afford it right now. But this might be possible. Thanks for the helpful video.

Watching this gave me a cool idea to make a set of three custom watches for my mates and I (only a small group of 3). Very personalised, and could be a bit of fun to make.
Having built several watches, I would recommend buying a lume kit and adding aftermarket lume. The. Chinese dials and hands typically have terrible lume. For $25 you can buy a kit that will out perform Seiko dive watches and compete with some of the best lume watches.
Hello mate, nice video, i have some questions. How long do items take to arrive ? Haven't you had any problems with the sellers ? I've been wanting to build a watch for a long time
There's a brand that sells kits with everything you need to build a watch from scratch with step by step instructions for about $200-300, I haven't tried it but it looks fun
I think I just found a new hobbie. A couple of days ago I saw a Seiko that really looked like a Rolex Submariner... that's when I discovered the world of Seiko Mods. To be honest, I still don't have an opinion whether buying a Mod watch that doesn't officially exist with a label in it is a counterfeit or not, so I wondered that if I could assemble a watch myself that would be basically skipping this moral dilemma. But I just thought it would be barely impossible for me to do this, but then this video appeared to me. Now I'm ready to give it a try. 🧐 Thank you!
I wish to do the same , I bought a Breitling in Chinatown in 2008 it was amazing ,open heart the case was 44 mm and the dial was brushed stainless steel as the whole watch ,too bad I have only a bad picture can't find one similar to mine .
Hello!!! Long time watch lover, want to build my own. Can you maybe explain how to make sure sizes are compatible? There are so many dial sizes, cases, etc. How do I make sure the separate pieces I order are compatible? Thanks!
Love you content thank you so much for all your videos. But that one is different, it is both exciting and relaxing to watch :) thanks a lot. I got one question though, is it legal to assemble a Seiko like watch ?
Just stumbled across your channel i can appreciate a diy lol why buy it when you can build it is my motto 😂 also Mr marcus that last watch you showed with the open back is just incredibly beautiful. If i cant build it Can you build me one. Do a link for all the parts would love to have one of my own
Interested to see if anyone actually used this video as a guide? I think it would be fun to do this as a bonding project with my 3 brothers-in-law over the 4th of July weekend. It would have to be simple enough that we could kind of bulk order some parts and all put it together, together. Also, great channel. Been following for a few months and I’ve already made purchases based on recommendations
My mom passed away and I found a Rolex Datejust 36 in her things, which naturally went to me. The band has some flaws and I suspect it's a high-quality fake, but still need to have it looked at by a pro. I'd hoped to sell it, but if I can't I'll fix it up and wear it... although this one is intended for ladies I love the diamonds, colors, et cetera. It's like it was designed for me with a smaller wristband. Trying a silicone band off Amazon Vine (20mm) to see if that will work but could very well run into sizing issues, went with 20mm based on data I found. I just can't afford to drop a lot of money on this sort of thing right now... was hoping it was real so I could get out of debt faster. Still may be, hard to tell. If it's fake, it's a good fake.
hows the watch going so far? basically you buy everything for the nh35 machine? case, dials etc? whats the difference on the other machines? where did you get the dial saying seiko?
Hi Marcus what a good video you made! I would like to know if you have an aliexpress link for the special watch nipper and by the way the link for the watch face doesn't work. Thanx for answering in advance

Best course of action is to find a watchmaker / service technician who's willing to work with you and more importantly willing to go back and forth with you to assemble your custom watch for you. Most parts look cool but wont fit together one needs someone with that technical expertise. If ones lucky to find such a person (within your budget ). It's smooth sailing.

I had the same thought. Have to be fanatic gifts for your buddies.
Having built several watches, I would recommend buying a lume kit and adding aftermarket lume. The. Chinese dials and hands typically have terrible lume. For $25 you can buy a kit that will out perform Seiko dive watches and compete with some of the best lume watches.
@@scotts2027where do you recommend to buy the lume kit?
@@scotts2027 Yeah if you can recommend a site or brand 👍
Brilliant video man, sending love from Co.Clare
Gwan Ross!!! Thanks buddy
Hello mate, nice video, i have some questions. How long do items take to arrive ? Haven't you had any problems with the sellers ? I've been wanting to build a watch for a long time
Hi thanks for the informational video. I am buying the parts for my watch and was wondering if the black O ring came with the case and what size is it
Yep. The black O-Ring came with the case
Thank you for responding
There's a brand that sells kits with everything you need to build a watch from scratch with step by step instructions for about $200-300, I haven't tried it but it looks fun
Can you remember what company that was by any chance?
I think I just found a new hobbie.
A couple of days ago I saw a Seiko that really looked like a Rolex Submariner... that's when I discovered the world of Seiko Mods. To be honest, I still don't have an opinion whether buying a Mod watch that doesn't officially exist with a label in it is a counterfeit or not, so I wondered that if I could assemble a watch myself that would be basically skipping this moral dilemma. But I just thought it would be barely impossible for me to do this, but then this video appeared to me. Now I'm ready to give it a try. 🧐
Thank you!
Thanks!
Dude its a beauty. Ahem、 that Artem strap makes that watch ... the extra $85 is worth it.
Love you content thank you so much for all your videos.
But that one is different, it is both exciting and relaxing to watch :) thanks a lot.
I got one question though, is it legal to assemble a Seiko like watch ?
Thank you so much! It’s all Seiko parts from AliExpress. Seiko NH35 movement etc. I have changed the watch face now.
… your voice
reminds of the movie “CaddyShack”
With Bill Murray as Carl Spackler 👌🏽😅
Cool build & video
Hahaha. Thanks for the positivity bud
Just stumbled across your channel i can appreciate a diy lol why buy it when you can build it is my motto 😂 also Mr marcus that last watch you showed with the open back is just incredibly beautiful. If i cant build it Can you build me one. Do a link for all the parts would love to have one of my own
Welcome aboard! I’ll try and put up a list of parts at some point when I get time.
@@MarcusCreates Thank you! Do you have a ig ,?
@@MarcusCreatesThat would be great!
I think you should buy the magnifying glasses... It's whole new different experience and it's amazing
The video starts at 5:00. Thanks
Glad you’re enjoying the content Ben. Let us know if you use it as a guide. Would be interested to know was the video a help.
By the way, with the limited watch knowledge I have. I believe when lubing the gasket, you are supposed to shake it in the lube jar.
That makes sense. I’m used to lubing motorcycle gaskets 😂
man, you made an awesome watch
Thanks
Great video !!!! Can you kindly post links for the parts and tools you used please ? Thanks

@@MarcusCreates I appreciate you replying. However, I don't see a link in the description.
Get out of my mind Marus lol I've been looking into this for some time now, great video keep it up
Go for it! It was so much fun.
Hey Marcus, Does the time remain accurate after a few days? or do you have to adjust the watch often? 😅
Yes it does
My mom passed away and I found a Rolex Datejust 36 in her things, which naturally went to me.
Hey,
Really satisfying video. Do you know if we can do that with a quartz movement?
Yes
Awesome video, really enjoyed watching this. Maybe I will try it out one day.
You should! It’s so much fun. Thanks for the kind words.
hows the watch going so far? basically you buy everything for the nh35 machine? case, dials etc? whats the difference on the other machines? where did you get the dial saying seiko?
Hi Marcus what a good video you made! I would like to know if you have an aliexpress link for the special watch nipper and by the way the link for the watch face doesn't work. Thanx for answering in advance

Do! It’s so much fun
Use a fixed work area and adjust your camera focus manually. Auto focus keeps moving around.
Good shout. Will trybharder
Thank you, Sean Penn!
Best course of action is to find a watchmaker / service technician who's willing to work with you and more importantly willing to go back and forth with you to assemble your custom watch for you. Most parts look cool but wont fit together one needs someone with that technical expertise. If ones lucky to find such a person (within your budget ). It's smooth sailing.
to build my dream watch, I need to get hired by Omega so I can make the modern Seamaster 300 165.024
