    Professional watchmaker here, the reason we wear finger cards instead of full gloves is one to prevent our hands from getting sweaty and then for that sweat to drip onto the movement or work table, and second having separate finger cuts preserves a lot of our manual dexterity for manipulating the screwdrivers and tweezers and everything. Finger cuts but I would be immensely uncomfortable if I had to wear full gloves.

    Something I did for my watch (and later the watch I did for my wife) is to create a logo and then make a metallic-like high quality sticker of it. I had to order 20. I've resisted doing an Explorer 2 build because I own a real one. I have to say, that Ali case looks really good compared to the genuine one.

    For a screw-down crown I believe you should measure from the end of the threaded crown tube. When screwing down the crown, if you encounter resistance before it's fully screwed down, it means you need to shave a bit more off the stem. I agree with cutting a bit less off than you measured, then making fine adjustments w/ diamond files or w/e you've got. I take my sweet time with this task because it's a guaranteed win w/ some patience. Also Loctite 290 to properly secure the crown on the stem.

    I recently built my first GMT watch after watching a few of these videos and it's so awesome, definitely going to build more. Bent the seconds hand pretty badly as my pusher was too wide and it just bent both ends down but I was able to bend it back and finally get it in, should be a lot easier next time and I'll make sure to get spares which will make the process feel a lot less nervous, part of the issue I'm sure was the fact that I only had one shot at everything
    And using the finger cots instead of gloves definitely makes sense, my palms were so damn sweaty after having latex gloves on for like 4 hours while I was figuring out everything. Obviously it shouldn't take that long to do one watch but if I had to work on watches all day I wouldn't want to have the gloves on from 9 to 5

  • @AnActualChair
    @AnActualChair 5 дней назад +1

    I just built my own, and it was definitely filled with learning moments. If you are building your first watch in this style, I think my mistakes could be learned from.
    Firstly, I pushed the GMT hand down too hard and ended up breaking it. I put the rest of the watch together anyways, but will need to buy a new GMT hand. In order to do that, I will also need to buy the tools to remove other hands.
    I did not receive any spring gasket or rubber gaskets with my purchases and will have to purchase those before I wear the watch out.
    I did not buy lock-tight, so the crown is a little sketchy.
    Lastly, the jubilee band I chose took some serious finagling to get back on the watch. I ended up bending both of the bars just taking the band off, so it might be worth picking up replacements if you are buying parts for this build.
    All in all, the links under the video were incredibly helpful (and necessary for me) in starting my first watch building project, but I will need to do a tiny bit of searching to get the rest of the supplies.

  • @unclekevin5094
    @unclekevin5094 3 месяца назад +2

    Excellent piece of work. You seem very happy having a go at all these watches. One small point is dont touch the rubber sealing ring at the end with your cots on your fingers or you will spread grease all over the watch which is what the cots are designed to prevent. Keep up the good work.

    Correct method is to fit the crown to the stem temporarily (dont add threadlock at this point), insert the stem to the case/movement, then measure the excess that needs to be removed. Dial is largely irrelevant at this point, although it may be needed to position the movement in the case correctly. Trim the stem, check it for size, then fix the crown in place with non-permanent threadlock. Fitting the hands is probably the last thing to do before final fitting of the movement to the case. With a spring-loaded crown, like the one you are using for a screw-down case tube, take your measurement and reduce by maybe 1 or 2 mm to allow the remainder to be taken up by the crown spring. btw, the movement ring doesnt appear to be a good fit for that particular case. Maybe they do one with a slightly larger outer diameter. Great to see you having fun doing this, I love watchmaking.

    1) Get some Rodico putty to clean off any dust or debris that isn't easily removed with the air or duster.
    2) have a clean/new microfiber cloth at the ready
    3) Put the stem in to fit the dial, so you know the correct calendar date for the window, before you remove dial feet.
    4) Use some Loctite (low strength) to screw the stem into the crown beforehand...and let it dry.
    5) clean and lubricate the case crown threads
    6) you need to test the crown stem length with the GMT and HOUR hands lightly installed, to check the functions.

    Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the MAMACOO, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.

    I've got a 16570, corn grains, wth a white face but that green is really nice and it's a really nice homage watch! Well done!

    I like the overall combination of parts. It does appear though that you forgot to install the concave washer that goes around the pinion before putting on the dial.

    Hey Elliot, just a heads up. I bought the parts for this build as well as the extra stems you listed in the description. Unfortunately I didn't notice that the extra stems don't list compatibility with NH34 movements. In fact I am unable to quick set the GMT hand with these stems and I had to order a new set to fix the watch.

    Dont change the hands. having difference colored lume is awesome and its a good way to notice the different hands if you were able to make the GMT lume hand bright orange. it would be even cooler for night stuff
