I’ve owned the King Seiko KSK for two weeks now, and it hasn’t left my wrist. I’m so so impressed with it, the finishing is wonderful, the way it catches the light and the overall quality has won me over. Some commentators have criticised the movement but it runs perfectly fine to me and keeps good time. I’ve tried on plenty of Grand Seikos and actually I’m pleased I spent my money on the KSK instead (and I was lucky enough to find it used for a big discount!). This is a lot of watch for the money…it feels high end, and yet is so discrete and classy.
WOW, you have exquisite taste. Congrats, what an amazing 2 weeks you must be hiving. I am so pleased you shared this, best comment so far. "It feels high end, and yet is so discrete and classy". Perfect. Thank you so much and enjoy your KS, Best regards, TGV
But it was Grand Seiko that won the battle and continue develop until today. I love this King Seiko because it is an reissue, I love vintage watches. If you were comparing this KS reissue with modern GS, I would get this too because I like vintage. But if you go back in time, vintage GS and KS has similar design really. That said, vintage GS has this kind of case too.
Buying used at a deep discount was the way to go! Congrats on your business savvy, and having the discipline to wait for someone else to throw their hard earned money on msrp, then regret their purchase, while you wait patiently for them to chuck it on the secondary market, then swooping down to retrieve the spoils at real market value. Lol
I've seen other watch channels try the "history thing" and they, frankly fell flat on their face. TGV is obviously a history buff and expresses it exquisitely.
Hi, my name is Marcelo, I'm from Brazil and a lover of watches, especially vintages and Chronos from the 60s and 70s. I have a small collection and two vintage Seikos from the 70s are part of it: a Bullhead JDM 6138-0040 circa1975 and a Cevert 6139-6002, circa 1973, both original and in good condition. Congratulations on the channel! hug Marcelo
I am hoping that, despite the world becoming more casual, dress watches can make a bit of a comeback. They’re just so classy and beautiful! They’re making a comeback with me at least.
All the more reason to wear one. Stand out. If you’re wearing a $3k seiko you already have the confidence to wear what you like, not what impresses the novice.
Agree for most of us 3k on a watch is just too much . The Sarb also has a more appealing lug/case . There is definitely a market at £300 to £400 for the Sarb but without Seiko filling it micro brands are . Seiko now is wanting closer to £1000 for a Sarb like watch , and unfortunately there is so much Swiss competition with ETA movements at that price.
There’s no doubt the SARB was *good* for the money and that’s about it. Other than that, it’s now this mythical, over-hyped unicorn. For $300-$500 you’re much better off looking towards brands like Tissot or Hamilton, plus you’ll get a far superior movement.
T - you are a legend! No one in watch world does it like you. You’re sophisticated, measured, informed and - in contrast to these - animated and passionate. Thanks for not only setting a high bar, but for always pressing onward and upward. I re-watched your SNKL23 video this afternoon and this one now. Such a solid foundation (in your production) as well as such remarkable growth. Props TGV - and Thank You
These are literally the coolest watch reviews on RUclips. I love the history lessons and because of your review of the Seiko SKX007J1, I've just bought one as the first watch in my collection! Keep up the great work man!
Earlier this year, I set out to get a grail of mine; the Grand Seiko SBGR261. After months of taking on extra jobs, saving, and selling various things I don't use anymore, In June I finally went to an AD and purchased my Grand Seiko. While I was there, they happened to have a King Seiko in stock and I tried it on. I fell in love with it! The sharp, angular case and lugs caught the light beautifully and I loved the way it fit on wrist. I ALMOST abandoned buying the more expensive GS right then and there to get "The King." In the end, I went with the GS (and couldn't be happier), but I would venture to say if I had seen this video before hand, I MIGHT have the King Seiko sitting on my wrist right now!
The SARB033 was head and shoulders above the competition at its original price point. As you mentioned, at $3,300 people start thinking about all the other watches they could buy.
Great video as usual and a stunning watch . KS is also an important part in Seiko history . Just a mistake in the video : the new KS is a re- issue of the reference 44-9990 with the strong lugs and not the 4402-8000 as shown in the pic in the video which has smaller lugs
What a stunning watch - it absolutely oozes elegance. This is a watch for a person, that doesnt need a “loud” watch, to be present in the room, its a watch for a gentleman. Great video, you are still the absolute master of watch videos👍
Thank you so much for the history...... It really shows their resilience..... Their artistry and their intelligence..... I enjoy watching your blogs and the passion that you have..... This is the best part of horology to me
Who cares, watches now unlike in the 60s are jewellery pieces for 95% of customers. Seiko will sell them all for those who want a beautiful dress watch or a collectors piece.
Very true sadly, I can happily report not issues here, but then again, this is the "luxury tier", even if I despise the whole idea of "tiers". Thank you Srdjan, Best regards, TGV
Since you asked, I had a Grand Seiko SBGR031 from 2005 until 2021. It had understated, almost stealth looks and the crown guards made it a sporty 3 hand watch; particularly stealthy as SEIKO and not GS was emblazoned on the dial. The watch grew on me with ownership because of it's quality and craftmanship. In 2021 I could not resist "upgrading" to the SBGR257, which is essentially the same watch, but with a display back and the newer 9S65A movement. It is my favourite watch and I have owned many, vintage and new across most price ranges. It is unique as a sporty 3 hand watch in the Grand Seiko range and IMHO worthy of a review.
They are going to fly of the shelf, stunning watch, I love the 50/60s style watches, simplistic beauty. Thanks for another very interesting history lesson 👍
I own this watch and recently bought a silver dial Rolex Datejust. Interestingly, my new purchase has made me love my King Seiko even more. It’s just so sophisticated. King Seiko is ichiban!
What a stunning classic looking watch, and love to see "King Seiko" on a new watch. I do love Seiko and Japanese watches indeed my collection is mostly of those. Would love you to review any of the new Grand Seiko Seasons collection that would make my year 👌. Enjoy the rest of the week and as always thank you for the superb video sir
Poster of Akira Kurosawa's Ran in the background while reviewing King Seiko shows sophesticated style and class. What can I say T, you're the man when it comes to interesting and well informed watch reviews.
Excellent review as always TGV! Just wanted to say 2021 also the 60th Anniversary of the King Seiko, and this beautiful watch is the almost direct copy of the KS second model 44-9990 except the date window and only 1.5 mm larger than the original. Cheers!
Another brilliant review. I tried one of these on a couple of months ago in the Seiko Boutique in Melbourne. An utterly stunning, luxurious timepiece. I was committed to buying my ultimate Seiko diver SBDX017 at the time and finally found one in as new condition. Now I’ll be looking for the new King. Even the wooden box is stunning. It will go well with my beautiful 6216-9000 “Baby Grand Seiko.”
Would like to see a review of one of the 62 Mas reissues or should i say reinterpretations. There have been a number of releases in the Prospex range that have really hit the spot. I enjoyed your recent Willard review, another from the SPB series would be very welcome.
That's why you're the best horologist/timepiece personnel on RUclips. Keep up the amazing videos and the class you bring to the horology community. Would love to watch a review for an Orient Star or Seiko's Astron models!
Another amazing video! I'd love for Seiko to dig through their old catalogue and re-issue some of their vintage models with more modern specs. Some of those old designs are amazing!
Excellent and thoughtful review. I recently purchased the SJE083 to be my wedding watch, and needless to say it’s never leaving my collection. I’d originally set out to purchase a Grand Seiko SBGR261 to commemorate the occasion, but ultimately could not pass up the opportunity to purchase a *brand new* King Seiko.
The movement inside, the 6L35, is actually an evolution of well-known 4L35 movement. It is a design that could be find even in some watches under the Seiko's high-end Credor brand, as well as a relatively obscure, but nevertheless fantastic Swiss-licensed independent movement Soprod a10. All in all, great watch and terrific movement!
Seiko being the premier marketers they are, it would make total sense that they'll follow up this limited edition luxury market crowd pleaser with a more affordable alternative in the same vein (as you said), to please the SARB fans, and why not?? Excellent review as always TGV. And may I add thanks for staying out of the recent fray in the watch world, which everyone who appreciates your class knew you would (ignore it) - well done and very unsurprising!
I've owned original 44GS for 6 month now. It has so beautiful case&face, legendary history and most accurate low beat manual movement. I think it is "Japanese Calatrava" or more than that...
I personally find that this more closely resembles the KS 44-9990 with the lugs being nearly identical. the dial is also identical with the same sunburst finish in a silvery-white tone. The KS 44-9990 has been one of my favorite vintage watches for some time now so when I saw this I knew exactly what it was coming from.
I just bought a vintage KS from the 70s a few weeks ago, and it really is something. Mine is decently patinated but still unbelievably beautiful. Vintage and fully serviced for $600, less than half the cost of vintage GS!
Thank you very much for doing this video. Very educational. I vaguely remember seeing this style of Seiko watch back in the 70's but never owned one. I was a teenager and didn't have the money to even consider it. The watch snobs don't talk much about the King Seiko on youtube. The watch is classic. I would say that it is worth the asking price.
Thank you very much for the superb review. A video on newer Seiko 5s would be great, also I think the save the ocean stuff would deserve some coverage. Thanks also for listening to the community! Best regards
I am a big fan of both seiko & citizens watches. I went to US Army training, and paratrooper school with a automatic dive watch. It kept perfect time. I served with the 82nd airborne division wearing that same watch for four years. Unfortunately I have since lost this watch (ex-wife 🤬) I have two citizens Ego- drive watches. I just got a 1963 Siegel mechanical chronograph 😀 Love this watch so far . Godspeed sir 😎
Because you go so in depth with the history maybe just explore the Grand seiko from the 60s and early 70s I got a very nice 6146-8050 with brown dial and it's an absolute stunner to see!
That’s a really beautiful Seiko! At that price, it’s approaching GS territory, though. Every watch I see makes me appreciate my SARB035 more! The SARBs were truly outstanding values.
Look, I feel like I have to lodge an official complaint here. Can we not just have more of these videos? I feel like your sleep requirements are no longer important, we want more! Another great video TGV. I love how you have such a passion for Seiko when everyone else is only talking about the “luxury” brands. If it wasn’t for your videos I wouldn’t have discovered the SNA411 Flighty.
LOL!!! Thank you Henk, I deeply appreciate that. I will try to cut down on sleep immediately 😉 I will wear my Flighty today in your honor! Best regards, TGV
The general styling of that watch reminds me of my first dress watch that happened to be a Seiko. That was in the late 80s and it cost about $90 which was a sum for me at the time. I wore it and my Timex Ironman exclusively for decades. I will always have a Seiko in my collection.
6:52. The still shot of the watch in 3/4 view. The colourful paper you placed the watch on is just the stuff I used to buy for gift wrappng when I lived in Japan. One of my favourites had the same royal blue ground and was covered with spinning tops painted in bright colours. A brief moment of nostalgia there...
Good day TGV, indeed, the SJE083 is the King of Seikos :-) The finish and the dial looks marvelous. One little detail I like quite a lot is the Seiko logo (or the font of it) on the buckle! I think printed on a dial this would add vintage character to Seikos more dressier pieces, in the style of a 50s/60s wristwatch. Have a great day!
I am actually wearing the watch today. One thing worth mentioning is that this watch has strong wrist presence. Also it has an unique character. I also have its 67' vintage 44-9990, slightly older version of the 44999 which has the shield medallion. This is 36.5mm and without date. More than 50 years and the hands and markers still sparkle.
After a glance at the balance wheel assembly, the 6L35 has a beat corrector arm along with gross & fine rate adjustment like an ETA 2894. But unlike the ETA, they're accessible, not buried under the automatic works. So that's a bonus when regulating. Just a technical detail that caught my eye.
I hope that you kept the King Seiko. For me, it is as close to perfect as I think I could ever want a watch to be, and that is why I am going to have one.
Best RUclips Channel ever ! And as always great episode ! Being french/italian, watching your Channel improved my english so much ! Thank you very much for that !
I bought a Seiko Lord Matic about five years ago, cost £90 from a US buyer that claimed it was recently serviced and keeping good time, when I received it I realised he was talking shite as it was losing ten minutes every hour! Spent £140 getting it serviced at a very reputable watch place, which took months. Now, five years on, its by far my most accurate watch among other the automatics and manual winds in my collection, and it’s over fifty years old! It’s up against several much newer Seiko models too.
I bought because into a jeweler in LA and I couldn’t stop thinking about it when I left. I have several Rolexes but this is different it glistens and captivates
Coming from a man who only discovered a love of watches a year ago and I lack in a lot of essential knowledge of time pieces but THAT is a beautiful watch and I MUST have it for my collection I am going to wait till Seiko releases another brand of unique restylized watches as I doubt I will find one of these particular watches So a fun fact I learned about Seiko about a year ago is there watches are better quality then Rolex watches of the same price AND I think (don't quote me) Seiko makes all there own parts
Absolutely gorgeous watch, and something my wallet would tighten itself against. Seiko's re-release of its refreshed SPB Alpanist lineup seems to have gone under the radar of most people, especially the SPB243J, 200m WR, screw down crown, 6R35 movement, sapphire crystal, all for around GBP 650, which I would say is the new SARB inheritor, worth checking out.
A newbie to the Gentry here. Quality content on offer and quality King Seiko too, Prefer the Grand Seiko on looks but very close. Seiko make great watches with amazing history.
I always look forward to your watch reviews as I learn something new almost every single time. With such beautiful watches as this, rest assured that I am definitely developing a deep appreciation for Japanese watchmaking. Excellent video congratulations!
I almost, almost bought this excellent piece, but instead I got three other Seikos for the price. Haha! I got a 6R64 28,800BPH and it has been impressive time keeping wise for a 6R.
I got to handle one at my local AD yesterday. It's really quite an amazing, understated, piece. I didn't buy it but I did succumb to another 140th anniversary piece.
Great review! This watch is stunning! The best part is that you can find those 4402-8000 in great condition for less than the half of the price of this limited edition. Congrats! More seiko reviews please!!!
A Seiko Bishop review especially from you would be amazing. With the way you review and not only tell the history but show it, could bring this often overlooked model out of the shadows.
Was going to buy an srpg31 off Long Island Watch to add yet another Seiko to collection, but now I might have to do this! Seiko is probably the only brand that can offer you a range of quality watches for all occasions. Dive, dress, sport, office, etc.
What a beautiful and timeless design, and at the proper size, too! I truly hope that Seiko will recognise the importance of producing similar, yet more affordable, dress watches for today's market.
@@theurbangentry it’s sad because people are stupid. A name is just a name. To assume a brand can’t produce affordable to luxury quality is foolish. This type of thing doesn’t exist in Japan. It’s why there’s just Honda and Toyota and no Acura or Lexus in Japan.
Stunning piece, great proportions, everything about this brand i love ,I would like to see the Orange Monster review i got my first seiko 20 years ago and I still love it, at the time I paid $59,00 dollars, no regrets,I keep wearing it with enjoyed and pride.....thank you great content my friend as always 👍👍👊

King Seiko!! 38mm is one of the best sizes for watches in my opinion! Not to big and not to small!
Nature is healing, but still waiting for the perfect SARB successor.
Keep an eye out for the 1959 Alpinist re-imagining. And, honestly, even at the higher price, there's the Sharp Edges series.
Try the SARX 047.

I am a big fan of both seiko & citizens watches. I went to US Army training, and paratrooper school with a automatic dive watch. It kept perfect time. I served with the 82nd airborne division wearing that same watch for four years. Unfortunately I have since lost this watch (ex-wife 🤬)
I have two citizens Ego- drive watches. I just got a 1963 Siegel mechanical chronograph 😀 Love this watch so far .
Godspeed sir 😎
Im perfectly happy with my King Seiko 44KS 1968. Great review, and the new KS is stunning.
You’re killing me! That watch speaks to me in so many ways.
It says,'Buy me,you don't really need to eat'
Look, I feel like I have to lodge an official complaint here. Can we not just have more of these videos? I feel like your sleep requirements are no longer important, we want more!
Another great video TGV. I love how you have such a passion for Seiko when everyone else is only talking about the “luxury” brands. If it wasn’t for your videos I wouldn’t have discovered the SNA411 Flighty.
LOL!!! Thank you Henk, I deeply appreciate that. I will try to cut down on sleep immediately 😉
I will wear my Flighty today in your honor!
Best regards,
TGV
What a beauty! Hail Seiko in general for their ingenious watches across the price spectrum.
Always nice to see new vids about new watches.
The general styling of that watch reminds me of my first dress watch that happened to be a Seiko. That was in the late 80s and it cost about $90 which was a sum for me at the time. I wore it and my Timex Ironman exclusively for decades. I will always have a Seiko in my collection.
This was such an informative and awesome watch review .The history alone is just amazing, Thank you so much for your time in making this episode.
Yes! Perfect video for my interests. I own a lowly Lord seiko from the 70s. A Quartz watch for middle management below the higher end king seikos
Peasant!
@@trwilliams22 Seiko 5 == 'Peasant Seiko'
Love the history part
So happy your videos have returned to my notification feed! Glad to be back gents 😎. Tristano great video as always!
Brilliant review as always , much love from the UK .
Outstanding observation, thank you Alexander, so glad you shared that.
Best regards,
TGV
Years ago I wished Seiko would revive King Seiko. To me it has an inside baseball mystique that even surpasses Grand Seiko. Thanks for covering this.
Gold Standard Review with Mesmerizing BGM, Editing & Commentary . You are pure class TGV , The Gold Vlogger of Horology ❤️🥰😍
Watching a TGV Seiko Special whilst wearing my Seiko SSC017 (solar chrono diver), is a good place to be in life.
LOVE LOVE LOVE that Seiko, a good place to be indeed.
Thank you William,
Best regards,
TGV
Picked.up a Vintage King Seiko 56xx and King Quartz. My favourite in the collection!
I hope that you kept the King Seiko. For me, it is as close to perfect as I think I could ever want a watch to be, and that is why I am going to have one.
It’s gorgeous. My SARB is gonna get a lot more wrist time this week! Thanks TGV
You have a beautiful way of presentation!! I can watch for hours
The best review of this watch I have ever seen.
I bought because into a jeweler in LA and I couldn’t stop thinking about it when I left. I have several Rolexes but this is different it glistens and captivates
Coming from a man who only discovered a love of watches a year ago and I lack in a lot of essential knowledge of time pieces but THAT is a beautiful watch and I MUST have it for my collection I am going to wait till Seiko releases another brand of unique restylized watches as I doubt I will find one of these particular watches
So a fun fact I learned about Seiko about a year ago is there watches are better quality then Rolex watches of the same price AND I think (don't quote me) Seiko makes all there own parts
I truly appreciate all the effort that goes into your content a heart felt thank you
Please keep up the great work
Absolutely gorgeous watch, and something my wallet would tighten itself against.
Suwa had the S-logo. Suwa did some King Seikos too. The remnants of the Suwa 6000 series movements are now found in Orient and Orient Star.
Such detail as always TGV, excellent video!
Which three did you get?
WOW! That King Seiko is sweet! (I'd like to see a review of the older Seiko Perpetual Date with the 8F32 quartz movement... +/- 20 sec. per year.)
Came for a watch review, got an unsolicited history lesson. Thank you!
Picked one up. Sacrificed a Citizen Chronomaster Washi paper dial to do so. Not regretting it, so in hindsight: Keep it. :)
Unfortunately, the name Seiko (especially without ‘Grand’ in front of it) will always be scoffed at when over $500. Great video and editing, thanks.
Thank you so much. Very true and equally sad fact!
Best regards,
TGV
I prefer this. I'd rather have a low key banger than have the populous pimp out the brand like they're doing to Rolex, AP, and Patek.
@@Kajemyster yeah, that’s unfortunate too. I’ve recently become more interested in independent brands as a result, awaiting the recent Kurono Tokyo.
Citizen is respected even less despite producing (though very few) a watch that’s accurate to a second a year…
Stunning piece, great proportions, everything about this brand i love ,I would like to see the Orange Monster review i got my first seiko 20 years ago and I still love it, at the time I paid $59,00 dollars, no regrets,I keep wearing it with enjoyed and pride.....thank you great content my friend as always 👍👍👊
It would be great to see one of the “original alpinist” reissues, coming later this year.
I buyed the green-dial version 1 month ago. Great watch in every way.
Close to my seiko sarb033. Can’t believe I got that for like 300 new from Amazon last year
Me too with my SARB035…although I paid a bit more last November. It’s still a great watch!
