What would be interesting is the live abillty it has. There's always a very noticable lag there. Does it have this ? i want to upgrade to the line6 hx stomp because that device doesn't has any lag/latency when switching presets.
This is going to prompt Neural and others to start offering a more budget friendly platform to compete with this. Sounds fantastic especially for the price
I can’t get the highs to come through for the life of me with mine. I’ve been trying to use it with a boss katana artist as a power cab. Mine tends to sound muffled for some reason. Any suggestions?
Excellent little run through on this! Seems like it'll get the job done and at the very least help with some ideas and inspiration for writing on a budget. 🤘
Mine came with only 36 presets, as well. I emailed #Donner, but their response did not address the issue. I don't really use the presets, anyway. So, I don't care at this point. Definitely, an excellent unit for the money. Great sounds for metal guitar.
Just once in any of these multi fx demos I would like to see someone switching presets in real time. Preset change lag is a big deal imo and nobody shows that side of things.
So true. I've used the Helix Stomp and the Ampero, and both have lag between preset changes. Which sucks. Cos lets say you have a clean tone presets, and a heavy chug preset. If you wanna jump between them there is always a present change lag. Must be a limitation on the modelling side of things. Unless it doesn't happen on the Quad Cortex.
What do you plug it into though? Like can I just run it into my black star tube amp and if so doesn’t that defeat the purpose of selecting the amp and cab in the interface?
DOES this have a WHAMMY effect? I am wondering if I can use the expression pedal to shift the pitch up and/or down to play Thall riffs. Let me know - thanks!! And thanks for posting this awesome review. The demo track slays!!
Great video! I would really love to hear a quick demo of it with a 7 string or 8 string. My metal band could really use this but I'm skeptical of modelers like this handling low tunings...
Depends what your goal is - if you’re looking to record or hear just yourself a unit like this will be great for a beginner - but if you want it for a band or jam scenario keep in mind you’ll also need some way to plug it into monitors or a power amp
You can get a decent pair of monitors for like $300 or you can look into power options like the Orange Terror Stamp ($200) and plug it into a guitar cabinet. Either way, you need to drop some extra money to actually move some air with these floor units. Think of them like a really fancy preamp.

High gain overdrive sounds like an all-semiconductor amp from the late 80s / early 90s. Which means preamp tube emulating algorithms here are inferior to other comparable modelers (like NUX MG-30 or Hotone Ampero). The interface looks nice, but as we all know what really counts in this kind of gear is the tone.
