There are no easy solutions and peaceful reunification without regime change in the north is a total myth. We either stand back and watch NK get stronger, continue to threaten its neighbors, and export terrorism around the globe or we accept the short term pain of war for the long term gain of global peace. NK is a vestige of a bygone era. It's an evolutionary dead end in a world where even China is embracing free markets and denouncing its radical communist past. All of NE Asia would benefit from Korean unification.

These kinds of speculatory takes are always one dimensional. They never take into account the real factors like trade routes that can be destroyed or where North Korea gets their oil from. Or how we can cut off their energy supply or capital. Where they get steel from, where their food production is. I feel like if you want to defeat North Korea, it'll be every bit as important to defeat them by proxy as directly. China imports over 40% of their energy from places like the middle east. Cut off China from those resources and they'd have a much harder time supplying North Korea with aid. Japan doesn't recognize North Korean sovereignty. They would be instrumental in defeating NK. China has ZERO defense treaties with any other country in the world EXCEPT North Korea. Everyone thinks Russia would ally with North Korea and China, but they seem to forget that while their relationship with China is better than China's relationship with the US, they've long had border disputes and skirmishes, even if those are only recently settled. And though China imports alot of weaponry from Russia, their relationship to each other is still frosty at best, even if it's relatively stable. As recently as June 2020, China was caught stealing military intelligence from Russia.
Peace through diplomacy is always the optimal choice but unfortunately some regimes use diplomacy as a tool to stall for time while they build up their arsenals.
And this is why no one has touched North Korea yet. They are essentially holding South Korea's population as hostage. Many many millions of people. I wish more people would see the seriousness of this. But then again, that's obviously the goal of this video.
LOL this is not why no one has touched NK, the real reason is the high possibility that China and Russia would get involved militarily if NK was attacked.

I also believe some countries may try and use the chaos to settle their own agendas (China and the South China Sea, Russians and their interest in former USSR countries).

I really have to wonder whether if China would seriously commit to allying itself with North Korea if the fragile peace on the peninsula ever shattered. Though modern day China continues to ally itself with nations that are typically anti US in order to carve out their own sphere of influence, it’s economy thrives greatly because of globalization, and a lot of that is with the US. Would they really risk a war with US, South Korea, and Japan just because they don’t REALLY want a US military presence on their border? The Cold War is over. It simply does not make any sense for China and the US to fight over an outdated buffer zone like North Korea. Both sides will have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
China would never side with North Korea in the event of a war, simply put, the consequences of that alliance even if NK wins are going to place half of the world against China and its economy will shatter. The Chinese are not stupid, they probably know how to play their cards already if the war breaks out.

I think in theory they would side at first, but China’s economy is reliant on globalization. BUT They have already proved themselves as a superpower. So... in the end... my answer is no. Our economies are so intertwined, especially with technology. But maybe if this all happens we can wait to find out! Oh goody.

Why do Americans assume DPRK would attack South Koreans in Seoul first if attacked by America. Remember Korean blood is thicker than foreigners’. They would attack US bases on PRK and in Japan by any means killing as many American troops and their families as possible. If America responds with massive and/or nuclear weapons aiming to destroyed Kim one or more well-hidden nuclear ICBMs will hit continental US cities as a result of MAD. My brother was commander of the 108th Armored Division in the US Army in Ft. Stewart, Georgia. He recently retired this past year in 2017. The dude said the Abrams & Bradley tanks would have a hard time in North Korea because of the mountains. Those tanks aren’t built for that type of mountainous regions for combat. Which is why they’re only focusing on air strikes, US ground forces don’t have the #’s to take North Korea.

Almost as if 15-20% of their population was killed during the Korean War, no building over 4 stories tall was left standing, and brutal and inhumane sanctions have been placed on them forcing them into mass hunger. I’m not pro North Korea and am highly critical of the regime but it is extremely ignorant to not take recognize the massive amounts of factors that have led them to where they are now. Also know that prior to the brutal Korean War which was sponsored by the US, they had been under inhumane colonization by the Japanese.

I agree with her in the sense that there is no limited warfare that would not entail mass casualties. Two solutions to this problem: 1) Peace agreement--we focus on mutually beneficial interests. or 2) one side destroys the other in a complete surprise attack.
No, he just wants to stay in power. How does he make sure nobody wants to actually try removing him by force? With nuclear weapons of course. He doesn't want to use them, ever. Period. The weapons are only there to show what will happen if we try removing him forcefully. It's incredibly simple in reality. What needs to happen is enlightenment of the population. Generally, Ramen is not considered being a good emergency food, for it requires lots of water and fuel for heating. However, in the emergency plan made by the government of South Korea, ramen is included in the list. It's because the government does not think the war would be more than 1 month.

One thing that I know would possibly happen is that the North Korea cannot be targeted for nuclear weapons since South Korea and China is just around it's border so they have advantage in using their own nuclear missile without worrying any nuclear attacks. In other words the US allied countries should be able to defend itself against any nuclear attacks.

In reality, a war with North Korea may be short-lived. Kim Jong probably relies too much on threat perception. He may have missiles and nukes, but modern warfare is more about a powerful air force and navy, which North Korea does not have much of. If US and South Korean forces take out their missile launch capability in pre-emptive strikes, North Korea will possibly lose within a month.
As a South Korean, I would honestly like to see a peaceful reunification under the South Korean government. But 1. a power-hungry Kim Jong-Un won't go away so easily, and 2. Communist China, in its rivalry with the US, is afraid of having a Western-allied, unified, and democratic Korea right under its nose. This is a complicated matter. As a previous comment mentioned, the reason why no one has touched North Korea is because it is basically holding South Korea hostage. No one wants to see such a developed and democratic society die. But US media should stop trying to turn this matter into a linear conflict between the US and North Korea. Please remember the fact that there are many other unseen players and manipulators in this cruel game, and South Korea potentially has the most to lose.

And the majority of people in South Korea have no problem with N. and S. Korea walking under a unified flag for the Olympics, at least, although that may or may not imply bigger things. Apparently the US Army did a study a few years ago, and said that they could steamroll the country in about two weeks. Which actually seems in the realm of possibility to me. An army marches on its stomach - even North Korean soldiers are subject to rations. Food *and* ammunition.

I really have to wonder whether if China would seriously commit to allying itself with North Korea if the fragile peace on the peninsula ever shattered. Though modern day China continues to ally itself with nations that are typically anti US in order to carve out their own sphere of influence, it’s economy thrives greatly because of globalization, and a lot of that is with the US. Would they really risk a war with US, South Korea, and Japan just because they don’t REALLY want a US military presence on their border? The Cold War is over. It simply does not make any sense for China and the US to fight over an outdated buffer zone like North Korea. Both sides will have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

China would never side with North Korea in the event of a war, simply put, the consequences of that alliance even if NK wins are going to place half of the world against China and its economy will shatter. Why do Americans assume DPRK would attack South Koreans in Seoul first if attacked by America. Remember Korean blood is thicker than foreigners’. They would attack US bases on PRK and in Japan by any means killing as many American troops and their families as possible. My brother was commander of the 108th Armored Division in the US Army in Ft. Stewart, Georgia. He recently retired this past year in 2017. The dude said the Abrams & Bradley tanks would have a hard time in North Korea because of the mountains. Those tanks aren’t built for that type of mountainous regions for combat. Which is why they’re only focusing on air strikes, US ground forces don’t have the #’s to take North Korea.

One thing that I know would possibly happen is that the North Korea cannot be targeted for nuclear weapons since South Korea and China is just around it's border so they have advantage in using their own nuclear missile without worrying any nuclear attacks. In other words the US allied countries should be able to defend itself against any nuclear attacks.

In reality, a war with North Korea may be short-lived. Kim Jong probably relies too much on threat perception. He may have missiles and nukes, but modern warfare is more about a powerful air force and navy, which North Korea does not have much of. If US and South Korean forces take out their missile launch capability in pre-emptive strikes, North Korea will possibly lose within a month.

As a South Korean, I would honestly like to see a peaceful reunification under the South Korean government. But 1. a power-hungry Kim Jong-Un won't go away so easily, and 2. Communist China, in its rivalry with the US, is afraid of having a Western-allied, unified, and democratic Korea right under its nose.
This is a complicated matter. As a previous comment mentioned, the reason why no one has touched North Korea is because it is basically holding South Korea hostage. No one wants to see such a developed and democratic society die.
But US media should stop trying to turn this matter into a linear conflict between the US and North Korea.
Please remember the fact that there are many other unseen players and manipulators in this cruel game, and South Korea potentially has the most to lose.

And the majority of people in South Korea have no problem with N. and S. Korea walking under a unified flag for the Olympics, at least, although that may or may not imply bigger things. Of course some people want different things; some people are more liberal, some people are more conservative. Of course in any democratic society not everyone is going to have the same opinion.
