First of all, Turkey's population is Muslim by majority. If they choose to have their country turn more secular, or more religious, it's their choice/decision. I've been to Turkey about 3 times, and I'm a Christian. And I could tell you that I enjoyed my stay there more than any European country I have ever visited. I hope the Turks keep protecting their amazing country and culture, and defend themselves from the unending attempts by the US and the West to destabilize and weaken the country. Peace !
But you wouldn’t want to live in a society that doesn’t promote equality. Your comment has just nullified the many movements of female equality and homosexual equality and equality for minor religious followers, etc.
@@odd6554 You have a point there. I don't know about such movements in Turkey, especially homosexual equality. Turning a blind eye on Saudi Arabia, calling it "their eternal ally", turning a blind eye on them financing and recruiting Daesh, etc.. This double standard and hypocrisy should alone indicate that you should NEVER trust the US especially to promote or lecture the Turkish or anyone else for that matter on how to run their countries, or how to be more liberal. The things said in 5:41 are wrong or incomplete. The soldiers who want to carry out this coup are the soldiers of a community that is not loyal to Atatürk, worked with Erdoğan before and had a conflict of interest. After this conflict, they wanted to stage a coup first in the political party and then in the country. But Erdogan did not allow this by calling his followers to the streets. In fact, those who took to the streets did nothing. Most of the soldiers there are insignificant privates. They didn't even know what was going on there. When they were told the truth, many surrendered to the police. Unfortunately, many are still on trial. They are even forcibly detained without trial. There are even only military students among them. If there was a coup supported by the people. It would definitely be successful. However, there are almost no followers of Atatürk in the military who are strong enough to make a coup. Many soldiers are now members of extremist religious sects.

Thank you all Turkish, Kurdish, Ataturk supporters and Erdogan supporters for voicing your opinion and your arguments in English. It was very interesting to read, as our media and educational system is so hyperfocused on itself instead of the rest of the world, we rarely get to hear regular peoples' candid and unedited opinions about the state of their nation directly from them.
+Ĥ є ჯ є Ņ The Western mainstream media and educational system's failure to focus more on something other than itself or its points of view, is not really something they can be blamed for. Reasons are possibly somewhat complex to fit in here (or I'm just incredibly lazy), but you can be certain that in most (all?) other countries mainstream media networks and educational systems do the same. A similar narrow view, only from their side, modified to suit their needs. That's why it pays to follow content from as many media networks as you can afford to, and not just mainstream. If you know the language or find publications in English, try foreign as well. All of which are sometimes or oftentimes broadcasting conflicting or completely bypassing stories. Understandably, this method can be time-consuming. However, when you feed your logical apparatus enough, with the help of rationality, it will start sorting things out, allowing you to draw your own conclusions.
Peace !
As a Turk. I thank you for true information you've Done.
Maybe worth to mention that you are turkish
But you wouldn’t want to live in a society that doesn’t promote equality. Your comment has just nullified the many movements of female equality and homosexual equality and equality for minor religious followers, etc.
@@odd6554 You have a point there. I don't know about such movements in Turkey, especially homosexual equality. What I do know however, is that in Istanbul at least (where I have traveled multiple times), women work everywhere. Some wear head scarfs some don't, some wear traditional Muslim covered dresses and some (most) don't. And I'm talking about Turkish women not tourists. It gave me a liberal impression of the country, or of Istanbul at least.
@@odd6554 Sorry for my long reply. I have also traveled to Saudi Arabia, to Riad and Jedda, and I can tell you that these guys are the most backward minded people I've ever seen, especially towards women and homosexuals. Until very recently (khashoukji's horrible murder), what was the "western world" doing ?

Reading Turkish people's writing from all different sides of the spectrum in English on this thread was 100x more educational than the video -- and it was actually a pretty solid video.
You my friend, are a really good person and we need more people like you
I cant agree more Buğra
Which may or may not be correct - but as long as you're aware of this, you should do fine. Better than most, actually.

@Sully's Televisiom Turkey Panini island Suakin Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Sudan had wanted to achieve a leverage against Israel. But as you can see, there was a US military coup in Sudan.
thanks you to
2 Years later answer, Thank you very much for all great words. I hope my country will be better :) And to be honest, I am proud of South Korea. Because just 20-30 years ago, South Korea was really not a good country. But nowadays, South Korea really great. In my opinion, South Korea is the first in the world. Because your country is so peaceful, and nevertheless so successful. Nowadays so many countries use wars to be successful. But South Korea is not the same. South Korea uses normal things. For example K-pop Groups, K-dramas, etc. it's so popular and really so incredible. I hope your country will be better too in the future!!! Have a nice day :)
we really respect and love our brother country, South Korea. Thanks for your nice wishes. 🇹🇷🇰🇷

Turkey is a neutral country. It’s bothering no any country in the world. Also while Turkeys economy is not very strong they help other poor nations, so Turkey is a positive country that helps humanity. Also Turkey is developing so fast and if they continue promoting their country they soon become a superpower. We love Turkey.

Ataturk was never a dictator! Turkey was in a war for a long time and there was literally no one to control things except him, so he took the control and saved a nation's life. Turkey's one and only father
Imagine declaring Republic in 1923 but first election made in 1950
@@akrepiidfiresupportvehicle2289 the competing parties were supporting nonsecularism so CHP had to shut them down. Until there was a real secular party, we remained with CHP. Know you history before you speak because if we had those nonsecular parties running in the 1950's Turkey would be in a way worse situation.
@@kece1 Thats.... the purpose of opposition groups

There are many incorrect information about coups and 2016 coup attempt. First of all, only 2 coups took place in Turkey, in 1960 and 1980. Others were Turkish military memorandums. Secondly, the important one, in 2016 the coup attempt was not done to bring secularism again, and the group of soldiers who are responsible for that are not Kemalists but a group of people who are highly religious as well and now recognised as members of anti-governmental organisation which follows Gülen movement.
I am not a dictator- 20 years in power.
