Literally ANY song on this album is worth a listen. My favourite Alice album.
This song is the perfect show opener. I’d recommend doing Sick Things off this same album. Alice’s vocal range is quite impressive in it. For his entire band to all shine in one song, react to Halo of Flies. It’s a monster of a song and a masterpiece…but then again, the entire album it’s on is a masterpiece; the album, Killer, is iconic.
Vincent Fournier aka (Alice) the Ballad of Dwight Fry is an awesome tune from the past as well!!!
70's Alice Cooper is IMO the best years for this band.
I saw Alice for the first time in 1971 in Germany and fell in love. I have seen him many times since. The last time I took my grandson in 2020. His shows are productions and not concerts.
This is one of the greatest rock anthems of all time. I bought this album in the 70s. When I was 16. Alice Cooper is to me the coolest rock star of all time. I prefer his early Material..
That voice of his is so cool. I love his video "elected" too. Totally the coolest guy. I wish I was him.
Love Alice, great album, but my favorite cut has to be “Generation Landslide” with that awesome harmonica solo!
Alice actually had several huge hits that were slow songs, love ballads - “You and Me”, “Only Women Bleed”, “How You Gonna See Me Now”, “I Never Cry”. Definitely worth a deep dive. I could play you a few of his songs and you’d never guess it was him!
I love Generation Landslide…La Da da da da da
The song was recorded in 1972 hence the recording quality. In those days the band would come off tour and have two to three weeks to record an album so there wasn’t much time for multiple takes.
In the 70's, it was the band who were called Alice Cooper, after his drink induced breakdown and spell in the looney bin (check out the album From the Inside), he reinvented himself as a rock-metal performer called Alice Copper.
All of his earlier songs were of a "Musical" nature, the music and vocals supporting the theme. "Desperado" off Killer or The Ballad of Dwight Fry are perfect examples.
This songs, especially the end brings me to tears... It's his best song
I feel so strong , was 5 years old screaming that at the top of my lungs while my mom cheered me on in the living room 😊mmm good times
The sound to me is exactly like the record, as i have always remembered it, since i was about 10 years old.
hello hooray let the show begin = the alter ego has arrived!!!!! ALICE is the captain hook to all the flower power music
This was the show opener for Alice. Sometimes he still uses it today...
great song that showcases alice's brilliant underrated vocals
I'm from Brazil. I just love the early years of Alice Cooper's Band. Listen to "Dead Babies" (1971)
"Hello Hooray" and "Only Women Bleed" are my two favourite Alice Cooper songs. I love their grandiosity and drama. These qualify for Theatrical Rock, for sure. Note that Alice Cooper was one of the three first acts to incorporate Theatre, sets and drama into their live performances. The other two were David Bowie and Peter Gabriel in his Genesis days.
So it isn't surprising that when Gabriel was ready to record his first solo album in 1977, he chose Alice Cooper's producer, Bob Ezrin of Toronto, who by then was already world famous, having given Alice Cooper their sound and musical direction.
Frank Zappa was in a club when Alice was performing. They scared the bejesus out of the crowd, they emptied the place. Frank said "I gotta sign these guys" lol. Lots of Zappa stories with these guys. Good times
To really appreciate why parents went nuts over Alice Cooper in the 70’s, listen to Sick Things on this same album. Marilyn Manson had nothing on this guy.
Or " I love the dead"
you,ve got that right! i saw them for either killer or billion dollar babes
tour , it,s been awhile early 70,s
@@JenSell1626 Yes it was a momentary stage in my music
appreciation I think I was 14 that rebellious age, I later went on
to drop him and moved on to Genesis w/Gabriel, King Crimson and Roxy Music and other artist you, ve probably never heard of
@@JenSell1626 try Bob Calverts, Captain lockheed and the Starfighers"
Roger chapmans band Streetwalkers thier album "Red Card" and
"lady Junes" album "Linquistic Leprosy" all early to mid 70,s
Hysteric happiness... LOVE Original Cooper!
top musicians and the songs was a mix of so many genres... many times i more watch a movie than listen to a record typical american 70's ♥
Also very critic to politics and childabuse etc..
An iconic album
Probably my favourite Alice Cooper album. I’m sure others will think I’m nuts but it is. Very well crafted IMO. Cheers!
I think it's one of Alice's best albums, as well. Probably THE best album!
Love it!
Alice as Ringmaster and gracious host. Master of ceremonies. Brilliant.
I have a lot of respect for Alice Cooper the person and music is just timeless. Hello Hooray is g-r-e-a-t!!!! Dean Jarva, you done it again, well done. Harri, you should read up on Alice Cooper. Thanks for the reaction.
I absolutely adore this song.
I heard this when it came out in the 1970's I was 10 yrs old and it totally blew me away, loved this song ever since and can listen to it a million times every time is just like the irst time I heard it.
Bloody AWESOME!
Alice was almost better known for the spectacle of his shows and this song sounds like an opening number to start the show.
He is still great in concert, as old as he is! And still sings these awesome old songs. Haves loved him since my teen days in the 70’s. Thank you!
God I feel so strong! Euphoric! Bodybuilding is a lifestyle…every set like it’s your last. When that part of the song comes in the set increases in INTENSITY! Damn that is living! Been a fan for 50 years!
I love that you brought up the Jazz element. There’s a lot of Jazz influence on early Alice records, especially on Blue Turk from his School’s Out album.
His best album, contains his best song period 'Generation Landslide '.
Alice coopers ear.y albums are sublime halo of flies from killer is awesome
I've been loving this song for over 40 years .. it never gets old .. it's ability to create waves of euphoria is so unique to me it gives me goosebumps every time .. .. it has an abundance of passion .... God I feel so strong .. that says it all..10/10
Alice Cooper has done more styles and genres of music than any other musician I can think of.
Bowie
@@mrssmallhold
Yup.
i like the way you think.
You got a small hold on me.
@@stuartmazzeo2516 we like the same kind of music. Life is good.
To add to my other post this song is a redo of a 1967 song bu Rolf Kemp. Alice totally owns the song with his version. Thanks again real reaction video.
Hands down one of my absolute favorites regardless of genres!
This album had a VERY distinct sound and unique tone I never heard on another album-by the Alice Cooper band or any other!
Darkly melodic with equally dark lyrics-almost Edgar Allen Poe-like!
THANK YOU FOR DIVING INTO A FORGOTTEN CLASSIC MY BROTHER!! I’m sure you’ve heard ELECTED” off this album, so PLEASE take “SICK THINGS” & GENERATION LANDSLIDE” for a spin! You’ll TOTALLY APPRECIATE how singularly UNIQUE they still are! FANTASTIC musically, you’ll get my Edgar Allen Poe remark with the lyrics!
I was 15 and billion dollar baby tour was gonna be my first concert. I was a huge Alice Cooper fan, still am. I had my ticket (5.00), but lost it days before concert. Tried to buy another but they sold out! I was crushed. But I'd like to say that on may 9 th me and my girl and going to see him. Waited 51 years, but we're gonna rock!!!
It’s an anthem for his fans
This is what Alice Cooper started show with when I saw them and ZZ Top Maple Leaf Gardens December 14, 1973. Great show.
Alice Cooper should start all his shows with this epic track. God I feel so strong. I hope you check out Elected and Only women bleed.
I love this song it’s timeless
This is one of my faves bro from this album!
The end of the song has major Lou Reed feel, which is interesting!
Greatest rock star from the states❤🙂
One of his best.
Dennis Dunnaway, an amazingly creative bass player! Of course the whole band shines
my favorite Alice song
The first single I ever bought , seen him many time and met him ,what a guy
Great choice weird but one of Alice cooper's lesser known masterpieces.
In those days Alice Cooper albums were basically soundtracks to their stage shows. This song opened the album and was also the opening song for their Billion Dollar Babies tour in 1973. Included is a video of this song on that tour.
ruclips.net/video/3v77IOack90/видео.html
Saw them perform several times. 1st time at Boston's Music Hall in '72, then again at The Garden in '73 where they opened with this classic. The rest of the band were no slouches. Glen Buxton was one of the great lead guitarists. Even later when Alice went solo, he was always backed by some great sidemen like Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter ( who wrote and played the intro to Reed's 'Sweet Jane').
Just good to see album cover been a while love this album... more ALICE FROM ALBUM ✌️🇦🇺
The sound was good on the video. I agree that the song is about looking forward to performing and getting energy from the people.
this album opened with this tune and the 1973 BILLION DOLLAR BABIES tour opened with it......smoke fills the stage..spotlights to the center out walks alice in a white top hat and white tux tails...oh how i remember that show 49 years ago when i was 17
Been to many concerts in my life but Alice concerts are EVENTS! Pure entertainment. What fun. He’s still around!
Harry, dont let listen to and react two fantsstic songs by Paul McCartney:
Wanderlust
Ebony and Ivory
You will love both of them.
Have a nice time.
Theo from Brasil.
It's interesting to hear Just Collins' version of this song. I think it was written for her to perform.
Recording is 1972..it is like Elected on the same album. It has an Anthem quality to it. Listen to it a few times..play it on guitar if you play.. you will
realize it. As was School's Out. Cheers
I can't see much point in this song except as the lead-off to the album. This is his "we're Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, we hope you will enjoy the show" introduction to the album. The title track is the payoff song, his duet with Donovan. This sounds great though.(?) The great songs on the album are Billion Dollar Babies, the hit single No More Mr. Nice Guy, Generation Landslide and the humoristic Unfinished Sweet.
Wow! I completely forgot about this track .... So dramatic and full of pomp. Sounds as fresh today somehow. 😲🤎🤎🤎
Awesome! i was just listening to the song, thinking of my own past with it, and ran into this!
For the record- no pun intended- Love It To Death and Welcome To my Nightmare are amazing albums. The latter is closer to being like this one but Love It To Death was voted best party album by the dude from Motorhead, right around the time people were trying to play that "you have to make a choice" game between bands and the bands were Alice Cooper and Motorhead. Long time ago!
In the 70’s my mom used to beg me not to buy his albums (based on his looks). 🤣. Before she passed on I was able to tell her he was Christian and did a lot of charitable work.
I saw Alice Cooper's band, minus Alice, at the Pontiac Silverdome 9 July 1977. Alice was then using studio musicians and a touring group, but the band went on briefly calling themselves The Billion Dollar Babies. They were fronted by "Rockin' Reggie" Vinson, who co-wrote the song Billion Dollar Babies with Alice and the band. They never recorded, as far as I know, and this was the only show I remember being promoted. It was a "rock explosion" or something like that, with other bands like Leslie West and Mountain, and a hot air balloon bobbing up and down inside the domed stadium. Sorry, I rambled a little. Peace.
Great choice
First time I saw Alice Cooper was in 1981. It was a fantastic show and have seen him a few times since then. You have to see him perform in order to really understand him. Welcome to My Nightmare, Feed My Frankenstein, Schools Out...so many songs!
This is off of the Billion Dollar Babies album. It got it name because the band was told like many artist about that time that their next album would be a million dollar seller. Because of this you got songs like the last one. Jethro Tull responded with Thick As A Brick, Because who would buy that right. Herb Albert quit preforming as the story goes.
You never know what you are going to get with Alice.
Very unusual song, and I loved it when it first came out. The original version was recorded by the writer, whose name I forget (very obscure) and then it was covered by Judy Collins in the late 60's
What???
Yup. Check it out. You can hear it on RUclips.
@@tgforty5
....pretty sure you're commenting on the wrong vid, dude.
This is Alice Cooper's Hello, Hooray.
Yes, I know. And Judy Collins recorded it first. In 1968. Google it.
@@tgforty5
That is so wild.
I even had Cooper's album here and must have never noticed the lyrical credits.
I didn't think he had any covers.
Thanks for the info.
I can't believe i never knew this before.
WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE!! this was Dynamite 🧨🧨🧨
Hey Harri, I see you are dressed accordingly for this song, looking sharp my man.
Australia troll how pathetic is your life really? 🤣
this entire billion dollar babies album is fantastic. it's better than his greatest hits album. worth listening to the entire thing. it was lightning caught in a bottle.
Amen 🙏 well put
Not written by Alice. A total cover that Judy Collins sang. I love both versions. I didn't remember who wrote it. Oh yeah the Pointer sisters sang on welcome to my nightmare.
I love musicals, it's very similar to them, I love theatrical music, like in the theater, earlier in the 70s there was more non-commercial music, it was the majority of groups and performers that produced non-commercial music because in rock music, jazz, funk, there was a lot of improvisation, pop music was not as popular as funk or disco, and only with the onset of the 80s, the appearance of Michael Jackson, all this was able to develop. Alice gave a lot of improvisation in the 70s, thanks to him, I like the album "killer" of 1971, critics rated this album as non-commercial, so what, I like it, Harri
Dave Oplinger hit the nail right on the head. My favorite song is Generation Landslide too. And his love songs shocked a lot of people . Nobody expected that style. Only Women Bleed is so heart felt live in concert. You have to see the video( footage) Back in the day it was a once in a life time moment. The future is wild , because you can go back in time to watch it again and again.Thats the only thing i like about you tube. Alice has a new band now called the Hollywood Vampires , feat; Johhny Depp, and his lead guitar player is Joe Perry. See ya on the next one.
All of his albums were concept albums, so this is meant to be an "opening/intro" song, which, even in musicals, aren't meant to be the "main" or "best" songs of the show. Taken out of that context, yes, you could say it seems a little "out-of-place" for Alice Cooper, but if you ever watch one of his full shows, you'd understand and be able to appreciate it much more. You know, it's kind of like most woman ... they have parts, they walk, sit, bend over, get up, smile, etc. but, when they do ALL of those things, all at the same time, we men lose our minds 😜🤪.
Props to Bob Ezrin for his masterful work on all those Alice Cooper albums. His sound is just about the most distinctive of any producer-engineer who ever lived.
No More Mr. Nice Guy ... from the same album is great ... Loved it then Love it now .....
The whole album
This is one of his best tunes.. "Love it to Death" best album every track!!.. So many cool, artistic tunes!!.. Each album can be a broadway show!. Luney Tune.. Desperado.. Generation Landslide.. Years Ago?Steven.. Nurse Rozetta..
Vince Furnier is "ALICE COOPER"
Sounds about right..... strange Cooper-Ezrin production 😁
Right! And I like it 😆
I probabIy always found this one as anthemic as anything he's done. I think Judy Collins, the subject of 'Suite: Judy Blue Eyes' (CSN) did it first.
Ezra works lots of background fills in anthems he's produced. This creates a feeling of expansion and weight. He did this with Kiss too. I love the atmosphere. I get why you might not like it. If your equipment is digital that could be an issue. You need analog to hear it correctly. Vinyl too. Its meaty.
"Hello Hooray" originally was written by Rolf Kempf. Judy Collins was the first one who was singing it. Alice Cooper's interpretation and lyrics differ from that of Judy Collins.
After the Killer LP they basically drifted into Broadway/Rock - themed shows/musicals. Alice was open about selling out and playing golf with Bob Hope.
I think you dont understand that this is the sound he was going for.. its not bad recording.. Its Bob Ezrin and 'Alice' and the band...
This is the perfect album or concert opener... it leaves you 'wanting'... and the next song on the album fills that want...
First time hearing this song for me too 😉
Let me tell you that you could have sold me this as John Lennon song, especially the first 2 minutes. What you call “arty” Harri, is exactly what makes it so John Lennon like to me.
WOW...WHAT WAS THAT......4 black brothers with a white drummer created this ICONIC Masterpiece...Trust me…. You do not want your life to end without hearing this song.
“TIME HAS COME TODAY“- The Chambers Brothers - Album Long version, then Live. PLEASE and Thank
This song sounds fine to me, just as it did when I bought the album the day it came out. It might be time to dump those headphones.
I loved this song when it was released, still do. I remember buying the 45 and taking it home and playing it for the first time. The sound quality was poor. My friends that had copies also were no better than mine. I have wondered over the years if that poor quality was intentional, maybe to make it sound more like a live recording. Just speculating, does anyone else have a similar experience?
I didn't have the 45 but I did record it from an FM station onto cassette. The DJ introduced it by saying, "Super duper Alice Cooper" and then the song came in with quite astounding sound and bass.
try, The telephone is ringing
Try Burlesque by Family.
You should react to 'no getting over me' by Ronnie Milsap
Check out Elected,
Plenty more great Alice songs. As others suggest, try the ballads.
Nut commercial? It got to number 6 in the charts and it's one of my favourites.
But the real curiosity is Judy Collins' version from the 1960s, the original as far as I'm concerned. ruclips.net/video/DB0TtT6NVcA/видео.html
Try No more Mr Nice Guy and Under my wheels
The poor quality you might think your hearing at the end, is actually cannon fire.....
the album Welcome To My Nightmare is very theatrical and is a concept album. It even has a cameo by Vincent Price!
🧨🧨🧨
The sound quality is excelent. It 's your mind which is poor. And your headphones too.
