The shock rock factor was always an act - it was vaudeville, a visual circus onstage. But the reputation grew and suddenly, it was scandalous and parents were terrified, etc. This song is Alice making fun of that reputation. It was always exaggerated, but then it's a show and in his 70s, he still does a fantastic live show! I saw him at the Greek in LA in 2018 and loved every second! Personally, he is a very charming man who has counseled other younger rockers to help them through addiction problems. He's also a scratch golfer.
I traded a friend for this album back in the day for an album of a much lesser known band. I won on this trade big time. So much so I can't even remember what album I traded for it. 😄

"The Original Alice Cooper bands" album "Love it to death" was my very favorite, so many great songs, especially "The Ballad of Dwight Frye" (the original from this album not with Alice doing it on the stage alone in later years) and "I'm Eighteen", "Is it my body" ...I like Alice but without his original band members, it's more like "A theatrics side show" rather than a great band and songs..

Also, you guys will never fully understand the appeal of Alice Cooper until you witness a live performance from his heyday. You can find video footage from the '70s on RUclips. The theatrics of his stage performances will make you appreciate his music much more.
Billion Dollar Babies is a great song. The entire album is fantastic. I was in junior high when BDB was released. Gave it a LOT of spins on my turntable.
The ‘shock’ was partly him being a guy named Alice, although it was actually the name of the band originally. Then his stage show set almost like an old school vaudeville horror show complete with hanging and guillotine. It’s a blast. Plus a couple of songs that are dark/off colour. Try Welcome to my Nightmare, Department of Youth, Only Women Bleed, You and Me, I Never Cry, Under My Wheels and so many more
Alice Cooper’s sense of humour comes through in this song. I’ve enjoyed his syndicated radio show, “Nights With Alice Cooper,” for nearly 20 years. He really is a down-to-earth Rock legend with some great stories from the Rock n’ Roll world.
Nights with Alice Cooper is a fine show. I get a kick out of the stories of fellow performers he tells. And these stories are not salacious or mean spirited. Plus Alice is a golfer so that makes me happy. He traded his alcohol addiction for a golf addiction.
Alice Cooper had a stage persona that scared parents, but is really harmless by today's standards. In person he was good friends with Glen Campbell and one of the nicest guys.
Not just harmless, but rather a really good person. Been sober since the 80s and actually has helped many people in the road to sobriety, including his band mate Nita Strauss and several members of megadeth and even runs a recovery program for troubled teens. He also ran a fundraiser to help a fan pay his house mortgage. Alice is the textbook definition of “do not judge a book by its cover”
One of my favourites live. He certainly runs the gamut of artistic musical composition. Check out Schools Out, Only Women Bleed, Ballad of Dwight Fry, Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to my Nightmare, to name a few❤🇨🇦
Alice Couper was my late wife's favorite artist. The song "Poison" was her favorite from him. Personally, I like "Bed of Nails," "Teenage Frankenstein," and "Lost in America."
This song was released in 1973 from Alice's 6th studio album, Billion Dollar Babies. It was written for friends snd family who were critical of his stage antics. Apparently it upset his Mother's church group. So this was written to let them all know he was gonna to his own thing and they could lump it. Great tune by Alice, with great back up musicians. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
The original Alice Cooper lineup was truly great. They made 4 masterpiece albums: Love it to Death(1971), Killer(1971), Schools Out(1972), and Billion Dollar Babies(1973). I recommend checking out their song “Caught in a Dream”.
Alice Cooper really is a nice guy! He's intelligent. He was even on The Muppet Show several years ago. He puts on an excellent Live show with lots of props and theatrical storylines
My brother that passed was a HUGE Alice Cooper fan! He was 12 years older than me and I have pics of me dressed up as Alice for Halloween when I was 6. Having a hard rock/metal older brother made my grade school musical tastes very unusual lol.
I was in 9th grade and this album entitled "Billion Dollar Babies" was a must-have. No filler at all. Every track is a classic. It went to No. 1 in the U.S. and U.K. and was certified platinum. It also produced four hits which was very unusual in 1973.
You need to check out his song "Only Women Bleed." It's not what you might think it's as close to a ballad as Alice could get. It's a song that makes you feel for a woman, almost makes me cry.
@@kennethohnemus3192 Tina Turner did it, too. The sick part is it was when it was still Ike and Tina. You know Ike made her sing it because he was such a prick like that.
Alice Cooper is great. A few of the songs were rather dark but most were very fun with a sense of humor. Suggestions: Under My Wheels, School's Out, I'm 18, Billion Dollar Babies, Elected, Muscle of Love. His singing was always incredible, and the band were always on fire. Great reaction y'all!
This is more the Alice Cooper I love than "Poison", which was his 80s phase. This song is 70s, when Alice Cooper was freaking amazing and raw. They had some songs then that I promise you would NOT like (all for shock value) but you should definitely dig into more of the 70s stuff. Under My Wheels, Desperado, I Never Cry - all safe picks lol. He even has some great ballads, like How Ya Gonna See Me Now - a song he wrote to his wife when he was about to be released from a mental hospital (yes, he was really there and wrote my FAVORITE album about his time there) and he was worried how she was going to view him when he returned home.
Great song! (which reminds me, please react to Dazed and Confused the movie). Another of my favorites are “I’m Eighteen” and “School’s Out” (the latter is also on the Dazed and Confused soundtrack). This is early 70’s Alice Cooper, which I prefer….but there’s also “Feed My Frankenstein” which is 90’s Alice Cooper.
Thanks you guys!!! Yes Alice has done every genre and this was early 70s. He has done other stuff more dark or heavy but he always is fun and his sense of humor shows through even in the darker or more metal ones. His sound has been so diverse over the years that you never know what sound you might get from him. He’s a great guy who is friends with so many musicians, he even was friends with Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon and others whose names don’t start with J
There are actually 2 iterations f Alice Cooper. The first iteration Alice Cooper was the name of the band. Then the lead singer (Vincent Furnier) decided to go solo but wanted to take the name Alice Cooper with him. To this day he still pays royalties to the other band members for the use of the name. I looked it up and saw that your first song by Alice cooper was Poison (yes some of us do know how to search lol). This was with the band while Poison was a solo. However Poison was late in his career and 10 years past his prime. His solo heyday was the mid to late '70's. Also this was the period he learned that ballads did very well in the charts. I suggest you listen to Only Women Bleed, I Never Cry, or You and Me. If you found this song surprising, these will absolutely amaze you.
Dead babies was my first Alice bomb, not sure you guys are ready for that one 😲 Alice's "shock" value really refers to his image, but it's the lyrics themselves that it described more. His topics, and themes are the Shock factor, and remember the era, late 60's to early 80's, he was one of a kind and Amber is absolutely correct and I think a video will tell a more interesting story 😁
@@starlette570 but who else was talking so openly about it in the late 70's? The open conversations were shocking to people who functioned in a shame based mentality, I appreciate him so much for that. By "bomb" I mean mindblowing, Didn't mean to imply "bad song" just meant surprised by the lyrics.
This song is a reaction to how people treated him for his shocking lyrics (which are mild for today)….he brought up a lot of topics people didn’t want to discuss
People often refer to him as "The Godfather of Shock Rock" but in many ways that pigeon holes him. Alice Cooper is actually his stage name, and is intended to be an alter-ego persona. Yes, he definitely has awesome tunes like Welcome to My Nightmare. But he also has great reflective songs such as I'm Eighteen, Hello Hooray, and I Never Cry.
Alice Cooper has some amazing music. I've been listening to him since my high school days in the seventies. Some of his stuff is dark, yet he was on the Muppet Show and did an amazing job working with the puppets, and performed Welcome to My Nightmare, and You and Me. You would really like You and Me. His stage shows are things of legend and you should check out some of his live performances.
Alice's favorite Glenn Campbell story is when rocker Eddie Van Halen approached Coop and asked him if he could arrange guitar lessons for Eddie with Glenn Campbell!
Lived in AZ. For 20 years and got to see him perform at his annual Christmas Pudding Show. All the money went to an after school program for kids to learn how to play music. One of the nicest people you ever want to meet!
I've been loving Alice Cooper for years since high school I always liked his style and I think they turned it glitter Rock.. but anyway I have lots of his music and I still listen to him and I'm 68 years old rock and roll forever
Alice is always fire, try the Ballad of Dwight Fry, another great tune of his, the 70s were Alice in peak form, the original band is killer, Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
“Welcome to my Nightmare” , “Eighteen” and “Schools Out” are 3 of his best known songs. “Cold Ethyl” is a great song about an odd topic (you’ll figure it out). “Steven” and “Years Ago” highlight some of Alice Cooper’s more theatrical productions. You won’t be disappointed
The concert "WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE" is a theatrical, dark, unique experience. Alice Cooper has been sober now for a very long time. He said he feels more control on stage SOBER 🖤
More Alice like this: School's Out, Eighteen, Be My Lover, Billion Dollar Babies, Elected, Cold Ethyl. His great (but darker) Welcome to My Nightmare, Ballad of Dwight Fry, I Love the Dead, Only Women Bleed. Some of his 80s stuff is also worth a listen, like Poison, Man in the Mask, Feed My Frankenstein. His best from that era is Hey Stoopid!
Brief history lesson, Alice Cooper was originally the band's name & they released 7 studio albums between 1969 & 1973. Their first two albums are lesser known & don't contain any hits, then in 1971 they teamed up with young hot shot producer Bob Ezrin, who would help them create a string of chart topping albums with a slew of songs that are still played on classic rock radio today. Ezrin would later go on to produce KISS' Destroyer, Music From The Elder & Revenge albums as well as Pink Floyd's The Wall , A Momentary Lapse Of Reason & The Division Bell. Alice went solo in 1975 with the release of the classic album Welcome To My Nightmare. As a solo artist he would become a pop culture icon in the late 70's appearing on game shows like Hollywood Squares and many variety shows such as the Muppet Show. Other must listen Alice Copper songs are Is It My Body, I'm Eighteen, Ballad Of Dwight Fry, Caught In A Dream, Elected, Billion Dollar Babies, Hello Hurray, Generation Landslide, Sick Things, I Love The Dead, Under My wheels, Halo Of Flies, dead Babies, Desperado, Be My Lover, School's, Luney Tune, Blue Turk, My Stars, Hard Hearted Alice, Teenage Lament 74, Muscle Of Love, Woman Machine, Welcome To My Nightmare, Only woman Bleed, Black Widow, Some Folks, Cold Ethyl, Department Of Youth, Go To Hell, I Never Cry, You And Me, Clones, Pain, Grim Facts, Model Citizen, Dance Yourself To Death.
Alice was a show man and did enjoy shock rock but remember he was putting on a show. He is a genius he orchestrated everything. J Alice's best Friend is Jack Nicholas.
Another really good song by Alice Cooper is Only Women Bleed. Caused a lot of controversy when it came out because some people misunderstood the lyrics. Alice Cooper along with KISS really propelled the horror theme in music, but because of the time frame they were in they were never near as hard as someone like Rob Zombie.
Guys, if you want to hear another fun song from Alice then you should hear Elected. He released this song a few months before the US presidential election of 1972, a contest between Richard Nixon and George McGovern. To stir up publicity, Cooper announced that he was actually running for president, and this song outlined his platform: "We're gonna rock to the rules that I make."
Saw his Welcome To My Nightmare and Alice Cooper Goes To Hell concerts back in the 70s. The neat thing was that these albums and their concert were of a theme that told a dark story from start to finish and the live shows were extravagant visual productions with tremendous musicianship. To anyone who only ever heard his songs but never saw his show, you don’t know what you missed out on. Truly unique concert experiences that literally brought bad dreams to life!!!
I saw his Welcome to My Nightmare concert in MI many yrs ago. He had so much going on on the stage I know I missed some good stuff. I call him the first MTV because his stage was set up as a TV screen and he walked thru it, as it came to a close up of his mouth the red carpet was his tongue. Blew me away. Thanks for the flashback y'all.
If you want to see the shock rock of Alice Cooper then you 100 percent need to watch a live performance of The Ballad of Dwight Fry. It has zombies, a straight jacket, and a guilten.
I've always been more into the wholesomeness of 50s & early 60s music but a boyfriend of mine took me to an Alice Cooper concert & it was wonderful!! Loved it! Lol. I was expecting NOT to like it due also to his shock-rock reputation like biting off heads of live chickens, etc. But he didn't do that, he was really great!
Yes!! When doing Alice Cooper you must do the old 70s stuff. Everybody (even the younger generation) knows "School's Out" as they sing it at the top of their lungs, or "I'm Eighteen". The album cover for "Welcome to my Nightmare" used to scare me (heck, Alice himself scared me) and my older sisters would sit on me and force my to look at it or listen to it then I would cry and tell my mom I was ready for my nap just to get away from it. Now, I see the album for the masterpiece it is and I am so glad I had older sisters to expose me to the good old classic rock n roll.Roll. Oh, and another Motorcity original. Detroit love.
Later Alice Cooper work is much heavier. This is 70's, during the 80's his sound got fuller and riffs got heavier. The Album: "Trash" was a turning point. And he's been getting heavier since. Check out "Deeper" by Alice Cooper. It's probably the heaviest he's ever been (riff wise).
THAT ALBUM ( BILLION DOLLAR BABIES ) COVER YOU GUYS WAS ALICE'S MULTI PLATINUM ROCKER FOR SURE! 😊CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THE TITLE TRACK BUT THE WHOLE ALBUM ROCKS 😊
Alice Cooper has a lot of great tracks! When you see Guns n Roses knocking on heavens door live, Slash will start with a different song as intro. That is Only Women Bleed by Alice Cooper, that is one of my favorite tracks
Alice Cooper's music has changed a lot over the years. Their 1st album was '69 & he is still going today. For more great songs check out "Schools Out", "Under My Wheels", "Guilty", "Go To Hell" or "Serious".
This was written in response to people saying that he wasn't a nice guy. These days, he does concert tours and on week nights he has a radio show that is broadcast around the world on various radio stations. If you want to explore his music, I would recommend: Only Women Bleed, You and Me, School's Out, Poison, Welcome To My Nightmare and this one to be in the first 10 that you hear. O W B is his song against domestic violence
Jay & Amber Vincent Furnier aka Alice Cooper is an avid golfer. Alice (Vincent) stated he started to play golf because he trying to overcome alcohol addiction.
First time I heard this song was when I watched the movie "Dazed and Confused" which would be a great movie for y'all to react to anyways great song Alice Cooper is a legend.
One of his biggest hits from his early years. Great song. His best album (imho) was Welcome to My Nightmare. If you're looking for 'darker' Alice Cooper (real name Vincent Furnier and son of a pastor), try this album, which is one of the best concept albums of the rock era. Some songs to try are 'Welcome to My Nightmare,' 'Cold Ethyl,' 'Only Women Bleed (a ballad),' and 'Department of Youth.' This album is in my Top 5 of all time. The 'shock' part comes from his live performances, which have featured a guillotine among other things.
Alice Cooper is my second favorite artist after David Bowie so this is a tame song you have to listen to Ballad of Dwight Frye killers dead babies 18 I love the Dead I hope you're getting the picture now lol.
Guys! If you want Alice at his finest "shock rock" then check out the "Welcome To My Nightmare" album. Similar to Dark Side Of The Moon, it is constructed to a theme and is an awesome album.
Yeah this was a year ago. Have you hit the gems yet? "Only Women bleed" about domestic violence. "Welcome to my nightmare" a little macabre. "You and me" a simple love song. "How you gonna see me now?" about a man leaving an asylum heading home. And "Poison" about an addictive but abusive relationship. IMO, "Welcome to my nightmare should be experienced by watching the entire TV special from the 70s including special guest Vincent Price.
Amber, if you're looking for the shock rock side of Alice Cooper, try checking out "Sick Things". It was released in 1973. For the time, it was pretty out there...

There are so many but , it kills me to make a decision. I’ll go with, Only Women Bleed. But don’t forget there are so many more, even if you don’t put them up on your channel, listen to them all . Especially the first three albums, so much talent. By the way his name, Vincent Damon Furnier. He is an avid golfer and quite good. I grew up with my boy, Alice Cooper.

Alice knew exactly what he was doing to get that pop music listener with just enough glam rock overtones to be unique.
Smart dude.
One of the best Muppet episodes ever.
I love his Cameo in Wayne’s World. One of the best bits.
the singers name is Vincent Furnier
You h a v e to do the Muppet show songs 💪🏻
Not to mention him golfing with comedy legend George Burns.
Feed My Frankenstein is a fun one. I’d also recommend looking up his performance of “Welcome to My Nightmare” on the Muppet Show.
My brother that passed was a HUGE Alice Cooper fan! He was 12 years older than me and I have pics of me dressed up as Alice for Halloween when I was 6. Having a hard rock/metal older brother made my grade school musical tastes very unusual lol.
Alice Cooper is definitely one of the coolest artists in rock in my opinion. Classic sounds too.
I was in 9th grade and this album entitled "Billion Dollar Babies" was a must-have. No filler at all. Every track is a classic. It went to No. 1 in the U.S. and U.K. and was certified platinum. It also produced four hits which was very unusual in 1973.
I'm not a big Alice Cooper fan but I've always liked him ever since I heard this, it takes me back to my school days
You need to check out his song "Only Women Bleed." It's not what you might think it's as close to a ballad as Alice could get. It's a song that makes you feel for a woman, almost makes me cry.
Not true. He had 3 other ballads that were bigger hits. You and Me, I Never Cry and How You Gonna See me Now. All hits.
Also Lita Ford did a version that was different but also fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@kennethohnemus3192 Tina Turner did it, too. The sick part is it was when it was still Ike and Tina. You know Ike made her sing it because he was such a prick like that.
Only My Heart Talkin', Hell is living without you, Die for you, Might as well be on Mars
One of his darker songs is Dead Babies, but you really have to pay attention to the lyrics.
Yea, two of my favorites are Zorro's Ascent and The Man Behind the Mask.
Love him! He could do ballads too - like "You and Me." A beautiful song.
You and me is a beautiful ballad!
Dead babies was my first Alice bomb, not sure you guys are ready for that one 😲
Alice's "shock" value really refers to his image, but it's the lyrics themselves that it described more.
His topics, and themes are the Shock factor, and remember the era, late 60's to early 80's, he was one of a kind and Amber is absolutely correct and I think a video will tell a more interesting story 😁
Dead Babies had a shocking title but wasn't a bad song at all. I liked how he used shock to bring attention to child abuse and child neglect.
@@starlette570 but who else was talking so openly about it in the late 70's? The open conversations were shocking to people who functioned in a shame based mentality, I appreciate him so much for that.
By "bomb" I mean mindblowing,
Didn't mean to imply "bad song" just meant surprised by the lyrics.
This song is a reaction to how people treated him for his shocking lyrics (which are mild for today)….he brought up a lot of topics people didn’t want to discuss
The whole KILLERS album is GOLD!!
Nothing as shocking as ‘I love the Dead.’
"Welcome to my Nightmare" is another very good song by Alice Cooper
My favorite song from him is "Eighteen". I was 19 when it came out and it really spoke to me.
The concert "WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE" is a theatrical, dark, unique experience. Alice Cooper has been sober now for a very long time. He said he feels more control on stage SOBER 🖤
Thsnks 100% agree. Saved me some keystrokes!☠️👻👽
"Billion Dollar Babies" and "Welcome to my Nightmare" are both harder. Alice is awesome!
How you going to see me now .
Alice was a show man and did enjoy shock rock but remember he was putting on a show. He is a genius he orchestrated everything. J Alice's best Friend is Jack Nicholas.
Alice Cooper was my first concert in 1974. Love him.
YOU HAVE to HAVE to play "Schools Out! Only then will you know what Alice Cooper is truly like! Fantastic guitar hook right up there!
His songs are full of irony and humor. Huge catalog. School's Out has to be next, although you MUST have heard it already.
My all time favorite song of all time.
My fav Alice Cooper is Only Women Bleed. Such a deep song.
Jay & Amber, his "Schools Out" was an anthem for all students! 70s Alice Cooper was better 80's Alice which you reacted to 7 months ago imo.
YESSSSSSSSS 👏 FINALLY!!!!
Alice Cooper really is a nice guy. I met him a few times. He used to play golf with Groucho Marx.
Alice puts on one of the best live shows you'll ever see. If he's playing near you go along, you won't regret it.
Alice and his wife are PK. Preacher Kids. They were interviewed years back. Check it out, it's great. Will be surprised..
Alice Cooper's music has changed a lot over the years. Their 1st album was '69 & he is still going today. For more great songs check out "Schools Out", "Under My Wheels", "Guilty", "Go To Hell" or "Serious".
A Radom fact. Alice’s dad was a church pastor an evangelical church. Alice grew up in the church and the song is about that.
This was written in response to people saying that he wasn't a nice guy. These days, he does concert tours and on week nights he has a radio show that is broadcast around the world on various radio stations. If you want to explore his music, I would recommend:
Only Women Bleed, You and Me, School's Out, Poison, Welcome To My Nightmare and this one to be in the first 10 that you hear. O W B is his song against domestic violence
Jay & Amber
Vincent Furnier aka Alice Cooper is an avid golfer. Alice (Vincent) stated he started to play golf because he trying to overcome alcohol addiction.
Love Alice he has lots of great songs, lots of great lyrics and styles of music. Definitely worth a delve into his repertoire. 👍
I still love the Welcome To My Nightmare album!
Alice Cooper is my second favorite artist after David Bowie so this is a tame song you have to listen to Ballad of Dwight Frye killers dead babies 18 I love the Dead I hope you're getting the picture now lol.
Feed my Frankenstein, hey stoopid, roses on white lace, all good choices.
If he comes to your area, go see him! He still puts on a great show!
Guys! If you want Alice at his finest "shock rock" then check out the "Welcome To My Nightmare" album. Similar to Dark Side Of The Moon, it is constructed to a theme and is an awesome album.
If you want to check out Alice's softer side I Never Cry is an absolute must see.
Another good Alice Cooper song for you all to check out is "Be My Lover".
Alice Cooper the band was awesome.
Try Alice's "I'm Eighteen", or hear his entry into early 80s New Wave song "Clones".
Check out "Generation Landslide". The lyrics sound like they were written today.
Amber, if you're looking for the shock rock side of Alice Cooper, try checking out "Sick Things". It was released in 1973. For the time, it was pretty out there...
Hard Alice... 'Under My Wheels' 'You Drive Me Nervous' 'Halo of Flies' all from the 'Killer' album.. 'School's Out' rocks too..
Att: Rob Squad
For shocking live theatrics
" Ballad if Dwight Frye"
live from Trashes the World.
This is his Magnum Opus
1) His big hits are not his darkest and most theatrical live.
Suggested tracks
Ballad of Dwight Frye (71)
Billion Dollar Babies ( 73)
3) Unlike Rob Zombie or Marlym Manson his material is quite diverse from crooner Ballads to " I Love The Dead"
3) originally was a band named Alice Cooper, Everyone assumed the singer Vincent' was Alice. He legally changed his name and became Alice Cooper.
then rejeased 4 brilliant concept albums 75- 79 very different from earliest..
Never stopped recording and touring to this day.
Been an Alice fan for decades. Love this album. Hello Hooray is one of the best opening cuts of all time.
Don’t remember the other AC song but my two faves for him are School’s Out and Feed My Frankenstein
Listen to "I'M 18."
You guys just need to kick back and watch an entire Alice Cooper live show. They are on YT. Kinda like Kiss... Alice is best experienced live.
Finally you played My boy Alice Cooper, don’t stop here because he made many Great songs. Even though you picked a good lead off. The absolutely best concert. Ever made, more than once about different music.
He is all over the music field and Great on all of them. Don’t stop here. Always watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸
Alice Cooper was my first concert back in 1973. He decapitated himself on stage with a guillotine. The opening band was ZZ Top.
