Does anyone remember when Peter Jackson stated that he had so much unused footage that he would seriously think of compiling all of it together for a 25-year anniversary type of tribute movie? Well, I certainly do, and now that we've close to the actual first movie's release (2001), if he intended this or not, the time is now. The true LOTR fans would love to see the various scenes and parts of the book PJ had to omit from the original three of that which was filmed!
@@That_FantasyAnalyst That's a great question, and I'm trying to think off-hand, from my memory. I have the extended cuts that has PJ speaking of this very thing, but I can't play it rn. So, from memory, I do remember seeing the camera interview was cut very briefly, and showed Legolas, adorned in the most beautiful costume (not his usual type uniform), walking through some beautifully-wooded area. I remember marveling at Ngila Dickson's incredible design and manufacturing of all LOTR's brilliant costuming! Unfortunately, I don't remember any other images, and nothing from Peter referencing Tom Bombadil. I recall when PJ was penning script ~ he stated that since there were many characters and events, they had to make the decision to cut that which didn't drive the narrative forward. PJ stated that included Tom Bombadil, and knew it would disappoint LOTR fans. Of course, this is not to say what I've stated is all there was to it, as it's been many years since I've seen it. All I know, I was very excited to hear PJ state that since he shot so much extra, and that includes storyline, that's made me so anxious to see what we've missed! ❤
If these films don't include Viggo Mortensen, it just won't be right. Aragorn is THE main character in the Hunt for Gollum, as he is the man who captures Gollum in the Dead Marshes. Who else could portray Aragorn's humility and inner strength the way Viggo captures it?
Was looking for such a comment. Aragorn hunted Gollum together with Gandalf and continued after Gandalf had to abandon the hunt. He alone captured Gollum. The Mirkwood Elves guarded Gollum, but didn't capture him. So the role of Legolas would be very small.

A War in the North or War of the Ring movie could potentially include all of that, as well as events that occurred in Dale and outside Erebor. What do you think?
Thranduil could be considered to be another "main" charactor, IMO. Once captured, Aragorn brings him to Thranduil to keep both incarcerated and safe. Thranduil has to deal with Orcs sent by Sauron and the growing threat to Mirkwood from Sauron's army of Orcs infiltrating his kindom. At least I HOPE this movie includes this prequel for the proposed film of the battles for Mirkwood and Dale.
The War in the North would be good because it brings in Thanduil, Galadriel, New Dale and Bard's descendant Brand, and Erebor, etc. This ties the The Hobbit and LOTR trilogies together by bringing both casts together. TBH, they could build a whole story around this that covers more than one story, by first, establishing new characters, such as Brand and his rule over New Dale, etc, to not only give context before this great battle(s), but also give well-needed character development. Brand is quite important in his extension of New Dale's territory and influence, into being another kingdom of Men. This is important in the greater story of Middle Earth, where Men rise to prominence and after destroying Sauron, and preventing the Age of the Orc, usher in the Age of Men.

I don’t know why Hollywood is so obsessed with Gollum, I don’t care about that character, I wanna see what happened in the First Age and a good movie/series about the Second, maybe even what happens after The Return of The King
@@Milan-mh4nc yeah, also that. Why continue on that? We know everything about Gollum already, how he got the ring and how he lost it and how his story ended. I really don’t wanna see a movie about Gollum’s beginning. It sounds really boring.
You want the honest truth? They’re so out of touch that when they saw the community’s respect for Andy’s commitment to playing Gollum, they legitimately conflated that respect with a love of the *character* Gollum… Respect for the actor ≠ love of the character. Joffrey from GoT is another good example. No one is asking for a spin off show all about him…
@mikkelnielsen3687 Absolutely horrendous take...if you don't care about gollum you really didn't understand much of Tolkiens work..or dont like Middle earth as a whole. Not only is he central and de facto main character in terms of his practical impact and acts which allows the story to happen on many occations, he also demonstrates the powers of The Ring that the entire story is about. Gollum is also one of the best written characters in the story and has a complex personality layers of which show the scars his past gave him. He is dehumanised to the bone yet still human. Its a masterclass of writing and I'd amongst 5 most important characters in the middle earth. Good thing the producers do not listen to such takes as they are the testament of either ignorance or plain stupidity.
This will be worth seeing . I can see Ian playing Gandalf , Orlando bloom playing Legolas and Virgo playing Aragon is worth seeing in lord of the rings hunt for gollum .
Yours is easily the best LotR channel on the internet. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to researching and making these videos. I hope it's paying off for you. Best wishes from the UK.

I would love to see my beloved Turin on screen, or Beren and luthien (this could be an epic love story like no one ever seen if they got it right and Fall of Gondolin..oh man i think if they got it right also, it could be bigger than Return of the King, maybe the most epic film ever. But at the moment, all this is just a dream. And i really hope that Tolkien Estate doesnt sell the rights to Amazon frauds or Disney...
I always thought that they should make a short film out of the chapters from The Fellowship of the Ring that they did not include in the movie. They could start with "A Conspiracy Unmasked" and End with "Fog on the Barrow-downs." Maybe they could even include some of the elements of "Three is Company" and "A Short Cut to Mushrooms" that didn't make it into the film. I agree with Peter Jackson's original choice to leave these scenes out of the initial cut however it would be cool to see them depicted as almost an aside. Something that you can watch later or at a different time. Like El Camino and how it relates to Breaking Bad. It would also be a great excuse to get Elijah, Sean, Billy and Domonic back together and finally see Tom Bombadil on screen.
@@eloeden2056There are multiple points in the book where it's brought up, first between Gandalf and Frodo in Bag End, then at the Council of Elrond where Aragorn gives his version, and Gollum briefly alludes to this period many times. There was a long span of time between the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in which Gollum left his cave and tried to track down his ring, before being drawn towards Mordor and becoming familiar with the lands in between. The film could cover Gollum's travels over many years, to the town of Dale, back to Mirkwood, through the marshes, discovering Cirith Ungul and Shelob, being captured and tortured by Sauron, released then captured by Aragorn who brings him to the elves in Mirkwood where he is held and interrogated by Gandalf, then rescued from them by orcs which prompts Legolas to go to Rivendell to deliver this news just in time for the Council of Elrond and the forming of the Fellowship. There's a lot of detail to fill in, but also a lot to work with.
"Most likely" 5:56-59 ... He is the pivotal character to the entirety of this film next to Ian's character; where they both work together and search for a creature. As for Orlando, I am not surprised he would make a return in Hunt for Gollum as Legolas after he participates in BOFA where Thranduil (Lee Pace, which I want to see him return in this film) told him to find the Dunedain race amongst them a young ranger with destiny to place of the coming battle for The One Ring (War of the Ring).
Seriously, The Hunt for gollum is not much of a story. There's so little stakes in the story, and so small compared to both The Hobbit and LOTR. Basically its demising returns.
honestly I don't think my immersion would be ruined if they didn't use AI to de-age. Let their age show, it's the performance that matters and smoothing out facial features could potentially lose nuance
They don't use AI to de-age. Please stop using AI as the term for everything. Its CGI they have used, and will continue using for de-aging. I dont know why they would suddenly rely on AI to do this?
They were emotionless. The argument between the dwarves and the elves at the beginning was completely superficial. Every scene was predictable. The scene with the trolls turning to stone was so unpleasantly poorly executed that I turned it off. I also don't like the victim role that Martin Freeman always plays, that really bothered me in Sherlock as well.
@@AliasSchmaliasI don’t think they were emotionless. I totally get each of your points of critique and saying PJ came at last minute to take over for another director in addition to the fact that all the preparation work done for LotR obviously couldn’t be done since the filming had already begun, probably doesn’t enlighten you since it’s pretty well known. But I think maybe you can give the movies a bit of a break; For many young people the Hobbit movie trilogy is the reason why they love the Tolkien and the reason why they dug into the world of Arda both through the incredible LotR movie trilogy, through the absolutely amazing Hobbit and LotR books, but also the Silmarillion and the rest of the Tolkien literature released past his death. It could’ve been done different and much better if you want my personal opinion. But the movies are still great for what they are; a comfortable, funny, entertaining movie trilogy that children and adults alike have been enjoying for many years. To add to that I want to stress the actor work of in particular the guy that plays Thorin Oakenshield and naturally Benedict Cumberbatch. They deliver performances that are so well done it makes the entire trilogy worth watching.
Not sure how that would work chronologically, since he’s not really involved in anything outside of Gondor until the council of Elrond, which is well after the hunt for Gollum
I know talking about _Rings of Power_ is a minefield, but I really do hope that people are not going to bring any hate at Daniel Weyman's door for "being that other actor". He didn't even know what his role would be when he signed the contract.
It’s not even the actors faults (most of them anyway). It was the writers and producers. I understand that they couldn’t make a Silmarillion or Third Age show, but to rewrite the history and characters of the Second Age to suit a “modern audience” and because of the “We can do better than the author” attitude is the height of arrogance and folly.
I hope its not two parts of the hunt for Gollum. It would be hard enough stretching that into one movie. I wish they would branch out in the lore farther. The Children of Hurin would make a great movie.
Every mention in the books about the hunt for Gollum is about half a page long... one paragraph. Theyre going to have to make A LOT of it up in order to make a film. 90% will have to be made up.
@connor828 the source material is made up by someone who's talented and who came up with the idea. You think Jackson knows more than Tolkien? Gimme a break.
I'm going to get skewered for this, but I wish they wouldn't. After the aberrations that were Jackson's Hobbit movies and the current cesspit that is Rings of Power, it would be painful to see Tolkien's legacy soiled yet again. Who know? Perhaps Serkis will pull a rabbit out of his hat. (Tolkien reader since 1973)
I would think they would be making The Silmarrian into a movie.🤷 YES, there is only ONE Gandalf! Sir Ian McKellen!!! The same is true of Andy being Gollum!!!
There is a wealth of Tolkien written Middle Earth stuff out there in various books. As long as this Tolkien source material is used, the new films should be just as stunning and compelling. Doubt would only enter the equation if the producers/ directors tried to " rewrite" or conjure up something " in the style of" Tolkien. That would be a major mistake. Original Tolkien would be the only thing that would work.
Yes, plus Peter Jackson acknowledged his mistakes with The Hobbit trilogy regarding the big unnecessary changes like new characters and over the top CGI. If Andy Serkis manage to respect Tolkien’s writings, then this will be a movie to remember
@@marco1-csgo And yet the mistake known as the war of the rohirrim is happening as we speak. A made up character as the main character in a story that should focus on Helm Hammerhand first and foremost.
@@marco1-csgo Peter Jackson has his name as a producer in war of the rohirrim. His stamp of approval so to speak? And Philippa Boyens as a writer in Rohirrim movie along with her daughter. I had faint hope before the trailer came out but now I doubt this new project as well. I doubt the lessons from Hobbit trilogy are being understood...
The three Hobbit films are wonderful. I just re-read the Hobbit book to my kids and we watch the Hobbit films often. The book makes us love the film more. Especially if you’ve read the fellowship and you see how many ideas from the Fellowship Peter Jackson took from material he didn’t use in LOTR as inspiration for his hobbit films. Just magnificent really.
They could get Michael Fassbender to play Gandalf. He played a 60 year old Magneto in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Ian Mckellen was about 60 when he was in Lord of the Rings.
When I first heard they were making another film and with the same characters, I was thrilled! Loved the first, canˋt wait for the second, soooo excited. ❤❤❤
I'm good. I already know what happened to Gollum. That'd be like making a movie like "you've seen how the entire story ends, but have you seen the part where they go to the store that one time????"
Hmm...while I would love to see another film from Lord of the Rings, I feel like more could be done post Lord of the Rings. Tolkien or his son briefly referenced Morgoth's return in Dagor Dagorath or whatever LOTR armageddon day is when Morgoth manages to break free from the Void and return to cause havoc. There's little written about it, so it would give a film crew creative freedom to tell the story. In order to build up to it, they would have to make LOTR prequel films about the war against Morgoth because some of the heroes from that story are said to make a return in Dagor Dagorath, so if you setup the prequel films you could make the post LOTR films with Dagor Dagorath. Literally, the ENTIRE series could be 3 prequels, LOTR, and 3 sequels. Done. Then side projects could be about gollum and other characters and stories told within the series, but, what I'm saying is unlike Star Wars, this series could have a definite beginning and a definite ending within a series of 9 films (3 of which being LOTR).
So in short what i've been looking around on is which characters logically could/has to appear on the timeframe of the hunt for gollum. So far: Aragorn 100%, gandalf 100% Legolas = Whole sequence of him meeting aragorn, how they bonded to be such great friends and what im most excited for is especially seeing other dunedain. I always looked at the dunedain to be extremely powerful and experienced soldiers. This is going to be so exciting and i pray that Peter jackson doesnt do the hobbit theme again where he gets one minor antagonist from the books and just puts him in there as the biggest one to come. It would be cool if the antagonist is still sauron or to be clear, the nazgul, looking for golom and capturing him after he escapes from emprisonment.
I'm so happy to finally get notified from a channel that isn't doing fan based trailers (mixing movies togethers and saying there's another movie like HP and PoTC). Its been ver irritating. Anyways, super stoked for this! If the oc character are returning, I wonder who will fill the role of Saurman, since Christopher Lee passed in 2015
If Jackson, Serkis, Bloom, Mortennsen, and McKellen all return guided by real Tolkein writing, under the old-school Warner bros leadership - these movies will surely be bangers.
I'm excited for these. I love Middle-earth, but the LOTR movies released before I was born, and I was too young to be interested in the Hobbit movies, so I'm really hoping to see these in theatres. I'm also wondering if we might see Frodo at some point like the beginning.

If he’s the king, then be so kind to learn how to properly spell his name and surname
@@muchanadziko6378 bro im a kid dose it really matter that much?
I don’t know why Hollywood is so obsessed with Gollum, I don’t care about that character, I wanna see what happened in the First Age and a good movie/series about the Second, maybe even what happens after The Return of The King
I don't know man. The game Gollum that came out this or last year was a massive flop.
@@Milan-mh4nc yeah, also that. Why continue on that? We know everything about Gollum already, how he got the ring and how he lost it and how his story ended. I really don’t wanna see a movie about Gollum’s beginning. It sounds really boring.
You want the honest truth?
They’re so out of touch that when they saw the community’s respect for Andy’s commitment to playing Gollum, they legitimately conflated that respect with a love of the *character* Gollum…
Respect for the actor ≠ love of the character.
Joffrey from GoT is another good example. No one is asking for a spin off show all about him…
@@KevinOnEarth_You f*cking nailed it dude👏
I want them to make a movie about Legolas meets Aragon
Whatever they do just HURRY UP I want to still be around to see it. 🙂
Movie franchises have kept me on the planet! Lets vow to stick around for the duration of this one!
This will be worth seeing . I can see Ian playing Gandalf , Orlando bloom playing Legolas and Virgo playing Aragon is worth seeing in lord of the rings hunt for gollum .
Oh can you see them playing those roles?
It’s almost as if they were given those roles 23 years ago…
Yours is easily the best LotR channel on the internet. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to researching and making these videos. I hope it's paying off for you. Best wishes from the UK.
If the studios really want to do Tolkien justice, they ought to do a trilogy of 1. Beren and Luthien 2. The Children of Hurin 3. The Fall of Gondolin
Yes! Instead of the navel gazing around stories that are essentially side quests.
All has to do with the rights these film studios have to adapt these stories. They simply don't have the rights to the Silmarillion and its tales.
You Go Girl.
Go out there and make the movie, be all you can be!
Too many indians not enough chiefs
@@SnKHhfb I don’t blame the Tolkien estate. They don’t trust the large corporations to do their works justice and frankly neither do I.
My dream for the last 2 decades!
Orlando Bloom needs just those long blonde hair and he's real elf immediately.

SO relieved to hear the 2nd movie may not also be the Hunt for Gollum!
I can’t believe it’s been 20 fucking years! This is good because everyone seems to feel the same way which means we all grew old together.
So hyped for the War in the North. I used to dream about it as a child.
It’s not confirmed or even hinted at, it’s just our theory. But yes, let’s hope that will be the second movie they’re making! :)
2 movies for the hunt of gollum is crazy.
The passage in the books is half a page 😭
@@penguinguy2167 LOL really ??
@@LucasHartley1 The character has been milked to death.
Viggo allready confirmed his will to participate
"Most likely" 5:56-59 ... He is the pivotal character to the entirety of this film next to Ian's character; where they both work together and search for a creature. As for Orlando, I am not surprised he would make a return in Hunt for Gollum as Legolas after he participates in BOFA where Thranduil (Lee Pace, which I want to see him return in this film) told him to find the Dunedain race amongst them a young ranger with destiny to place of the coming battle for The One Ring (War of the Ring).
If Viggo doesnt come back, I might not watch the movie. He is a must.
Seriously, The Hunt for gollum is not much of a story. There's so little stakes in the story, and so small compared to both The Hobbit and LOTR. Basically its demising returns.
Please, PLEASE! With Sir Ian as Gandalf and Viggo as Aragorn! My heart couldn’t stand a movie with anyone else but them. 🥺❤️
honestly I don't think my immersion would be ruined if they didn't use AI to de-age. Let their age show, it's the performance that matters and smoothing out facial features could potentially lose nuance
What? What are you saying? Part of canon that elves age backwards? No.
They don't use AI to de-age. Please stop using AI as the term for everything. Its CGI they have used, and will continue using for de-aging. I dont know why they would suddenly rely on AI to do this?
Personally: the more Middle Earth movies, the better 💚💓
I've never understood the hate that the hobbit movies get, I think they're great.
Leave alone the intense cgi. Also the character of the brown wizard was so dumb. My god, it was so bad. Makes me angry just thinking about it 🫣
@@AliasSchmaliasI don’t think they were emotionless. I totally get each of your points of critique and saying PJ came at last minute to take over for another director in addition to the fact that all the preparation work done for LotR obviously couldn’t be done since the filming had already begun, probably doesn’t enlighten you since it’s pretty well known. But I think maybe you can give the movies a bit of a break;
For many young people the Hobbit movie trilogy is the reason why they love the Tolkien and the reason why they dug into the world of Arda both through the incredible LotR movie trilogy, through the absolutely amazing Hobbit and LotR books, but also the Silmarillion and the rest of the Tolkien literature released past his death.
@@weeb3856Richard Armitage played Thorin, yes he's a great actor.
Well compared to the rings of power they are masterpieces lmao
Seeing Leia Organa through CGI was a little disorienting... hopeful to see how the suspected AI de-aging turns out, though!
I really cant wait for this. This is going to be EPIC!
May the orcs be with you 😂 great work
Gotto keep some of the traditions even if modified 😎
my god we could get more boromir
How would that work out? This actor have to die in each film (so they say) and cannot die twice... or can he?
@@janistan he could have a dream where he dies forshadowing the event saving the hobbits which would explain why hes a bit edgy
Jackson fans have brought hate on the entire cast. Your nice little comment won't change that.
No one cares about the cast (which may be iffy in some cases), but you can't expect any actual quality at this point from the producers.
…which could either be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on who’s doing the writing and producing. Let’s hope its written better than RoP
That's not so bad - 100% of the source material was made up.
@connor828 the source material is made up by someone who's talented and who came up with the idea. You think Jackson knows more than Tolkien? Gimme a break.
Hope Olando comes back ❤
"If you make it . . . They will come !
I really wish Peter Jackson’s next project was the Silmarillion. But curious to see where this would go.
(Tolkien reader since 1973)
I would think they would be making The Silmarrian into a movie.🤷
YES, there is only ONE Gandalf! Sir Ian McKellen!!!
The same is true of Andy being Gollum!!!
I've always wanted a war in the North movie . There is so much story to tell there !
I’m like a hopeless romantic who’s been hurt too many times… I don’t know what to expect. 😭
Thank you for another great video
Beyond exciting!!!
I'm hoping it's just two middle earth films that both have the involvement of sir Ian McKellen
Great news! We need all of them to be back! 😊
I really hope it's as good as the original films... although it's unlikely 😭
@@NordenTV Yes, unfortunately. At least we have hope for the original formation to do a better job
I seem to recall watching a fan film of this years back, think it was an hour or so long, no need for 2 films.
Oh… the war in the North. I’d love to see that as a part two. Fingers crossed!
Way to go Sir Ian ! Can't wait !
What about Talion?! I want a movie with the story ofTalion and the Nazguls😍
FINALLY - a reader/watcher of my own heart.
They could get Michael Fassbender to play Gandalf. He played a 60 year old Magneto in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Ian Mckellen was about 60 when he was in Lord of the Rings.
They already de-aged Orlando Bloom in the Hobbit movies, and they are already 10 years old, so 20 years past LOTR. 😂
I cant wait to watch 🎉🎉🎉🎉
It will essentially be fan fiction, which worries me greatly. The hunt for Gollum is essentially dealt with in just one paragraph in Tolkien's book.
I can't wait and hope all the great actors return!
So in short what i've been looking around on is which characters logically could/has to appear on the timeframe of the hunt for gollum.
So far: Aragorn 100%, gandalf 100%
Legolas = Whole sequence of him meeting aragorn, how they bonded to be such great friends and what im most excited for is especially seeing other dunedain.
They want to turn LOTR in the new Star Wars.
Fuck.that.shit.
I'm so happy to finally get notified from a channel that isn't doing fan based trailers (mixing movies togethers and saying there's another movie like HP and PoTC). Its been ver irritating. Anyways, super stoked for this! If the oc character are returning, I wonder who will fill the role of Saurman, since Christopher Lee passed in 2015
Good, that's very good. I'm reading this while preparing to go see The Return of the King again ❤
FIRST AGE AND MORGOTH BUT DIRECTED BY PIERCY JACKSON
Yes 🙌🏻
Of course, he's gonna be doing it. Nobody else could play Gandalf like him, + Gandalf played a massive part in the hunt for Gollum
If they get the A team back together again, I'm already so hyped for this. I know Andy will do TLOR more justice than Amazon
I really wish they make a movie about the battle of Dale.
If Jackson, Serkis, Bloom, Mortennsen, and McKellen all return guided by real Tolkein writing, under the old-school Warner bros leadership - these movies will surely be bangers.
So sick of Gollum. Hundred other characters to be explored but industry afraid to graduate from its "Remember this?" decade.
blue wizards would be nice and wars in the north or the morgoth 1st age stuff
After the RoP dumpster fire, I'm just sticking to the books.
Are they going to add bits to the LOTR fellowship, for an extended 25 year anniversary edition. Gives a bit for freedom for the Hunt for Gollum.
Nostalgie pur!!
I want to see a movie about the valar
Beren and Luthien would be the most epic Tolkien adaptation ever.
I’m interested in the timeline of Legolas and Strider following the Hobbit films.
Yessssss proper lord of the rings as we know it !!! Finally !!
I am so excited for this. I love the original cast. Perfect casting....
I did have the thought that the two films would grow into three. But we'll see.
I'm excited for these. I love Middle-earth, but the LOTR movies released before I was born, and I was too young to be interested in the Hobbit movies, so I'm really hoping to see these in theatres.
I'm also wondering if we might see Frodo at some point like the beginning.
I wish for a movie with main character as Elven King, Thranduil played by Lee Pace.
Sir Ian deserves to get to play Gandalf again, working with actual other actors, proper sets, and minimal green screen! It is owed to him and the fans! 🥺🙏❤️
After suffering through that Rings of Power BS......I need this project!!!
G'day to you! Well this is incentive to keep going for a few more years, I will be 75 when the Movie comes out! Armadale West Aust.
I'm 76 now, and I'm counting on this 'incentive' to keep me on the planet for a few more years. It. Could. WORK! (~from Young Frankenstein)
