As a cleaner for 12 years myself who already knows how to clean cooktops, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and very much appreciate your videos! You have an excellent manner of describing the right way to approach things. Kudos to you!
Thank you so much! It's great to be part of an online community of cleaners.
Clean and disinfect my shower floor
scrubbing bubbles sanifoam... cleans Everything! spray let sit for 30 second.. clean carpet stains too😅
I was told not used dish washer soap on flat top
I have an induction stove with a glass cooktop. I never let residue from cooking sit longer than it takes to cool. I try to avoid spilling in the first place. But if I do, after wiping with diluted Dawn spray, I use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe the surface and follow with a spray of alcohol. Works great.
Bar Keeper's Friend is such a game changer. A girlfriend introduced it to me and I'm never letting go. Of the Bar Keeper's Friend, she got jettisoned years ago.
I agree, it's the best!

One thing I have learned with my glass top is that you have to wait for it to cool then do a layer of baking soda and lemon juice like a paste then take the scraper to clean. I think you only need a fraction of the Dawn and Barkeepers Friend because a little goes a long way and if you get too much on it’s very hard to rinse it off and leaves a film. I have also noticed that if I take a magic eraser and then rinse it also gets off a lot of the film and grease.
I feel like the amount of product they use in this type of video is usually for show. Just like big companies do when it comes to bodywash/shampoo. It's a way to get the consumers to use more product and then end up having to repurchase the product sooner.
I have been using a formula I heard about. It uses:
--Dawn Powerwash (spray all over)
--Baking soda (sprinkle over the Dawn)
--Hydrogen peroxide (a tablespoon or two)
Mix together, then wait three minutes (not more!). After that scrub. It takes very little scrubbing and works well!
For the razor, they have "safety" utility blades that are rounded on the corners to help stop it from digging in
It worked! Thank you so much! I thought I had ruined my new glass-top stove but this process returned it to looking new again.
Advice is needed for cleaning toaster ovens internally and externally. Even the manufacturers reps are clueless. Especially on glass doors.
I just discovered your channel - you really make cleaning sound like fun! Thank you for your great tips, very much appreciated!
I just bought this cooktop cleaner and another Barkeepers Friend spray because of other videos you’ve shared. Thank you for helping make my life more organized and productive.
That is awesome!
Thank you for these videos!! You are such a blessing and you are so talented in cleaning knowledge, video talent, and communication! You gained this subscribed tonight with this video and the inside windshield one❤
I use oven off and spray the hard area and put damp paper towel over the sprayed area, it always comes out clean especially when honey or syrups spilled on the hot surfaces and hardens. It works very well using oven off. Sometimes you repeat few times until all is removed.
I heard people put a garbage bag over the area they sprayed with oven cleaner instead of a wet paper towel
The stove he is cleaning is basically spotless before he cleans anything. My experience with these stoves is that once you spill something on it and it is burned to the stove it will never come off unless the stove is cleaned as soon as possible once it cools down after an hour. Forget about trying to wipe anyting off the stove immediately because it makes the problem worse. It is also next to impossible to keep these stove tops from being scratched. Add to all of this that it is next to impossible to control the heat of the burners when cooking because the glass takes forever to respond to lowering the temperature on the the dial. Without a doubt, the next stove I buy will be a gas range preferably and if forced to go with electric it would be one with the old ring style burners. It always amazes me how glass top burners have proliferated despite the significant drawbacks.
I agree. In our new house that was what came with it. Want to change it soon.
Appreciate your honesty and insight.
I actually cleaned a stove top that had layers of burned grease on it which I thought I had to live with for ever since moving in to my new place and had tried everything except for the blade method and let me tell you I went from never seen the white rings to actually seeing them now. It obviously took me like half an hour of scraping and going over the surface area multiple times with the blade but the stove looks like new now
@@THEISAAC1593 I have also use the blade method and still have the rings of burnt on food around my elements.
I really thought i was alone I feel the same way 🤣💯
I might be a bit of an oddball but I find cleaning things well very satisfying.
Thanks for confirming that I'm doing it the right way. I actually have that same scraper.
This guy is a boss. Never would have thought something menial like cleaning would have interested me, but he makes it so enrapturing, like a mechanic speaking about an engine he's rebuilt. Or maybe I'm just getting old 😅
That means so much, I really appreciate you watching and sharing such kind words. Cleaning can be a chore at times but I try my hardest to make it as fun and enjoyable as possible! 🙂
@@CleanThatUp Magic Erasers work really well too!
Well there’s a difference just cleaning vs what’s this guys doing - look at that buffed out shine. My kitchen actually looking like this is intriguing.
You give the best cleaning tips! Thanks for sharing! 🙌🏻
The flat edge scraper is key. Use it with a mild abrasive like soft scrub, it works. Just be super careful that you hold it flat and straight. Extremely nerve-wracking using a metal blade on glass but it works well.
My stove is 10 yrs old and it's not a showpiece. I don't care if I get a few scratches in the top. Eventually it will be tossed out for a new model anyway, possibly an induction version.
This is my go to! Bar Keeper's Friend stove top cleaner is SUPER underrated. That stuff is GREAT!
Today I looked at my glass cooktop and wondered how to get rid of that residue. Few hours later I got this recommended for me. Weird but I’m thankful 🙏🏻
My favourite way to clean then is to spread the stovetop cleaner in a thin layer and let it dry a bit first before scrubbing. It seems to make it easier. Less elbow grease needed. I’ve also noticed the more frequently it’s cleaned like this the better.
I never thought to use Dawn Powerhouse. That did a great job! Thanks.
OMG this is awesome. I just got a new GTR and have only used it about 5 or 6 times. I had some marks that were showing up and for the life of me I could not get them off. This worked awesome Thank you thank you thank you.
This is the best video on cleaning the glass top stove. Just cleaned mine the way he suggested and it looks amazing. Best tip was to use a new razor blade. I will never clean my glass top any other way from now on. Thank you so much. 😊
I love to hear this Kathleen!
this is how ive been doing it for 15 years on our stove. it still looks 95% new.
Just don’t let it get bad , wipe after every use and u don’t need to scrub
Exactly, learn to cook!
This is so satisfying. Thank you! 😃💪💕
Thanks for the video! I've had luck soaking ours in Simple Green and scrubbing. Going to try the abrasive you suggested!
Thank you! You tips and directions are ALWAYS helpful. I’ve referred friends to your channel.
That is seriously so cool! Thanks so much for watching and sharing 🙂
Your cleaning advice is so good. We need more!
Beautiful shiny stove .great job.
I needed this, very helpful. Thanks Brandon! 😊
Happy to help!
Thanks for the vid! I have a glass top stove which I hate. At least I know how to clean it now.
I’m going to try this! 😊 Thank you! Have a great day!
Have fun!
Did you read my mind? Today is the day I want to tackle this. Thanks for a great tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
I use Dawn Platinum dish detergent and powder Bon Ami if there are stuck on areas. I’ve been using The powdered Bon Ami on oven door windows for years also.
How to clean your glass cook top. Use a glass cook top cleaner. Gotcha! Great information
Thank you for the information ❤
Thank you for this very helpful video and product suggestions.
I make my own dawn power wash cuz I kept forgetting to buy it. It works great.
For over 10 years Ive used dawn as well as pot and pan stainless scrub pads. I know they say not to, but in my experience it does not damage the top. Those tops are tough and actually a ceramic glass mix specially made to take beatings from pots and pans use daily. Tops are much tougher than a drinking glass ,and the stainless scrubber don't scratch drinking glasses ( unless they are old leaded glass and not safe to drink from ) so why would they hurt a cooktop ?
Dually noted about using the razer knife blade 👍 I never thought to use that, worked great, thanks for that one missing key I couldn't find, lol👍 Cheers 🍻
After initial cleaning, use a cordless drill with a small foam buffing attachment found at most auto parts stores. Apply cleaner to foam pad, set drill to low speed and cut your time in half for this job. EZ Peasy.
Thank you!
Appreciate the tips!
I missed where you said what time of scrubber you were using. Please advise. Thanks in advance for the helpful tips.
Amazing! Can you give tips on how to rinse surfaces thoroughly without dousing it in water?
Thanks!
Gonna have to try this.
Great video once again!! Hope you can do a video on how to properly clean air fryers, especially when it’s a little bit smelly due to lots of different usage. I hand wash it and even put it on the dishwasher but it’s still has some food smells. Thanks in advance!! x
I use a similar technique but the second step I use baking soda or powdered Bar Keepers Friend (because that's what I have on hand) and I use a power drill with a pad attachment on it. I place it on a blue scotch brite sponge that's moist and that usually takes care of it much quicker. Light pressure on low speed. You don't need to blast it at full RPM.
Well, that worked great! 👍😀👏
My husband found a ceramic scraper to clean the glass cooktop. No chance of scratching and works great. I use Lestoil, scraper, then Weimans. 2-3 minutes and it's spotless and shiny
What?? Ceramic (zirconia) blades will absolutely scratch glass. Steel, however, will not.
@@Eriiaa been using that scraper for almost 2 years and hasn't scratched even once.
Hi there 👋🏻 I'm new here and already learning so much! I need help with cleaning my black stove top completely with burners and all. Thanks!
Hi Claudia! Glad I can help out a little. Happy cleaning :)
Thankyousoverymuch! I am temporarily living in my parent's home that I just inherited. It has a black glass cooktop...which I ...absolutely...hate.... sigh. She loved it because it was "easy to clean". Except she missed those spots. There are some of those "spots" that just don't want to come out. I'll give this a go.
Hi Brandon, I have a stove like this. I noticed the back of yours, where the knobs are has streaks on it like mine. Is there a way to clean that up or is it stained forever ? Thanks so much !! Would love to hsve you deep clean my 2 houses !!! You are so good !! 😍
I clean my glass stove top as I go I do not let it sit after I clean up my dishes I wipes my stove , my aunt said clean up as you go you will less to do
What would you suggest for cleaning black granite bathroom counters?
I have used Weimans for years and it works great. It works better and faster than anything. I have found that using the microfiber towels work well. The razor that came with my original Weiman glass top cleaner kit puts the blade at the right angle. I didn't know Barkeepers Friend had a stove top cleaner but I have used the powder for years and it works well.
Where do you sell it?
@ElbaRosano I bought the kit that had the razor blade at Lowes Hardware but I get just the cleaner at Walmart. I find it lasts a long time as you only use a small amount.
Super helpful. I have bar keepers cleanser. I wonder if that is just as good as the liquid?
This isn’t a very dirty cooktop. Your Demonstration is good for the daily or weekly spills and burnt gunk.
A couple years back I had a customer who had a truly filthy glass stovetop.
Starting with a degreaser took only the most recent crud away, as expected. Skipping straight to a razor blade was a faster process of removing the crusty stuff. Degrease again, and another round with the blade, (it requires a brand new blade, anything that’s been used before will not be very effective, and will likely have a damaged edge, which will cause scratching) and when you use it to the point where it feels smooth to your hand, it’s time for the abrasive polishes (baking soda, Ajax, barkeepers etc.) to be used with a scrubby sponge thing.
I learned this in the early 80s or so from my mother who had the first generation of glass cooktops. White glass. It lasted, looking like new until the elements were replaced enough times that the appliance had served its purpose. Decades. Now she has one that’s going on 10yrs, still looks like new.
Mine, is an induction stove, 5yrs old and looks like new.
I clean it every few days or weeks. After reviving, it never fully recovered, the one I described, because of pitting and deeper scratches, resulting in etching, it was finally replaced.
His new one took only weeks before it was as bad as the original. Some people are simply not concerned about damaging their nice stuff, though he bought expensive appliances.
I’m glad he pays me to fix his stuff, it’s like job security. 😊
I have an induction hob that looks clean enough, but there's always this 'film' on top that won't come off. I'll certainly try the Bar Keeper's Friend product, if I can get it. Thanks!
Hey Brandon! Great job.
Hey, Thanks so much! 🙂
Hi, this is Lori. Love watching your videos I clean homes as well ...u give good tips
Oh thank you!
Let BKF cleaner dry before scrubbing, then it helps your scrub effort as an addition abrasive.
Let stove top cool completely off, spray the glass with "easy off" oven spray, let it set for 30 mins & wipe off. Then use dawn soap to get the grease residue off. BAM!
Thx for your videos, I want to know what if the stoves plate is weared out. What other method or cleaner can be used
No idea how this got in my feed but great job!
I love your videos!
Thanks so much for the kind works and for watching!
I always use the scraper first.
Get the big stuff out the way.
I have had a glass top stove for ages and it was super easy to clean . We bought a kitchen aid with a glass top three weeks ago and after simple cooking on it it shows some scratching and some coil issues. I am very picky about keeping things clean but I can’t figure out how this happenef
For day to day cleaning I use some sort of mild cleaner and then a spray of vinegar and newspaper gets it shiny! I do try and do this cleaning about every month to stop it from building up too much
Brilliant 👍🏻😃
how long does the entire process take and how often do I need to do this?
I have a random cleaning question…have not seen it on RUclips yet. Definitely not common. I have a Tyndall fireplace that is not smooth and finished. So it’s stone, porous with texture. Any idea how to clean it? I’m on my big fall clean and I know the stone was built in 88 and I doubt it was ever cleaned. I’ve been here 3 years and I’m scared to try anything and ruin the stone! I know it was a grey/white color originally now it’s looking a lil dusty dull off white/brownish colour in some places.
How should I clean my wood cabinets over the stove? No matter what I use, they are very sticky. Should I try Dawn powerwash? My microwave is there and doesn't do a good job of venting out the steam and grease.
I usually clean mine off with Soft Scrub; works great without scratching. It looks a lot like your BKF product. Do you know if they are similar?
Can I use the Dawn Power Wash in my oven and oven door? Thanks so much for this video.
Can you use Dawn degreaser to clean a glass oven door window, then possibly use Bar Keeper's friend glass cleaner if needed?
I use baking soda mixed with Dawn liquid dish soap…cheap scrubbing solution…no scratches or strong chemicals.
I live in the UK….we don’t have ‘Dawn’ here but I can easily adapt your cleaning products - however am unsure about the ‘scrubber’ that you use? There are so many to choose from. Which ones are ‘safe’ to use on glass? I don’t want to end up permanently scratching the surface…any help would be appreciated with this.
Thank you for another great video!! Your tips have been so helpful for me!
Could you do a video on how to clean heavily burnt on oil? I have a toaster oven that has accrued a heavy layer of black, rock hard burntstuff on the top side. The bottom comes off the toaster so I can reach it, Easy Off ate through the relatively lighter stuff (yet did a good job at it) but didn't get the badly burnt oil. It was also a bit of a hassle to use, left an odor for a while, and I accidentally might have etched the control panel with it...
If you have any tips for breaking this stuff down, that would be awesome!!
Thanks so much for the kind words!
I’ve actually been looking for a dirty toaster oven to clean for a vid. For the really burnt on grease I might recommend a razor blade scraper like I used in this vid. Spray on some oven cleaner and let sit for a bit then carefully scrape the area. It’s slow going but it should start to come up.
Hello ThankYou for the great info☺
You bet!
Scrape with a single razor first! ( Before applying cleaners). Use dawn/bar tenders keeper Then re-scrape if needed. A little Dawn goes a long way. Don’t over do. I’ve been doing this for years and my stovetop looks brand new.
I have enjoyed your comments on cleaning stovetops as you have shown! I have also had wonderful success with the “Bartenders”!
My question now is I have some streaks of grime inside the glass door if my stove which is only 1 yr old!
Any suggestions?
It was very interesting. I hope I succeed like you, so that I can better focus on cleaning. This method is also very important for washing carpets, and it is easy to wash carpets well at home.👍🏻✅🌹😊
Baking soda works just as good if not better.
Thank u
I never use a razor blade anymore. I bought a drill attachment and that changed the whole game. Takes 2 minutes and it removes the toughest stain.
I use a quality a Oven Cleaning spray. It's a little smelly so I fire up the exhaust fan then spray the surface, spreading the cleaner over the top with a cheapie old paintbrush. Let it sit for an hour or longer for an excessively dirty cooktop .....and with a couple of clean terry cloth rags, wipe the surface off. Follow up by wiping the surface with fresh water and some paper towels. No scrubbing or razors needed and the results are outstanding.
If I don't have Bar Keeper's, can I use regular baking soda to clean up?
My method is similar but I use the weiman stove top kit which includes the cream, scrubber and razor. I spray the top with windex wipe it with a paper towel to get off surface debris and grease. Then use wiseman glass top cleaner with their scrubby you can tell at that point it any remains if so grab the razor no need to make a third step. Wipe off the Weiman cream with a paper towel and buff, it will be clean and polished and takes Les than a minute or two. I wash my top after each use and it looks like brand new.
I live in a rental that had a lot of buildup on the cooktop when I moved in. I haven't been able to clean some of the existing damage. Is it a loss cause?
All you need is scrub daddy power paste. Works wonders on these tops.
2:57 /7:57pm ET........I sometimes use very old Corningware dishes on my black cooktop with no problem, but one left a light coloured film on the burner. Probably got too hot. Nothing seems to remove it. It feels slightly less slippery when I wipe the area. I've tried lemon juice, lime juice, BarKeeper's powder, stovetop polish, baking soda, etc. I keep it "like new" and this is really irritating. Any suggestions? Great video. Thank you.
Now I'd like to see a WHITE glass cook top tackled. I recently moved into my home, and my disaster of a cooktop is near the top of my deep clean list! 🙂
I put wet kitchen towel on the hob with washing up liquid, I leave it while clearing up the kitchen, when I remove the kitchen towel soaked in washing up liquid, everything has softened and just wipes off, I rinse well with a cloth and cold water, then polish with a soft dry cloth, no scrubbing or scraping.
I just use the stove top cleaner, a pad, made for glass and my razor blade. Then wipe with microfiber rag. Works great. If there is to much grease, I wipe away with rag first, then commence with the rest.
Great video
I use a pot scrubber then rinse followed be auto rubbing compound. Works like a champ looks new after 20 years of use.
What auto rubbing compound?
thanks
