- Former Post Office chief executive Paula Vennells “interjected” when senior management suggested subpostmaster prosecutions should stop, an inquiry has heard.
The Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry was shown a document that described Ms Vennells as “resiling” from the proposals in 2013.
Asked about a meeting attended by the then chief executive, Chris Aujard, a former top lawyer at the Post Office said: “My recollection is that the executive committee were in favour of ceasing prosecutions entirely.

How come they all apologise to everyone that they didn't believe and who they called criminals and who they prosecuted knowing all the time their system was faulty. Pure scumbags.
They all seem to be doing it, that and not remembering. Must be part of the plan to walk free?
These vile egotists will walk free. They are rich and part of the establishment. Nothing will happen to them ... and they know it, you can tell.
Another Bully who can’t recall, can’t recollect, don’t remember, don’t know……
And now we're stuck with him in NZ.
Is he related to Nicola Sturgeon.
Bet he remembers his wages and bonus payment.
@@kathleenharrison-rz6gsall these barstools in the PO are related to mendacious Nic'liar Krankie Turdgeon, I do recall 🤣😂🤣😂.
human trash
Which is why she needs to be jailed. What an evil cynical action!
For sure !
Strange that , her being such a good forgiving Christian …🙄
Paula V should go to prison for the heartless decisions she made with a smiling face
It seems every picture we see of her she is grinning with self-satisfaction.
Just imagine, had Justin Welby had his way, when she gives evidence, she would be introduced as 'You are the Right Reverend Paula Vennells, former CEO of the Post Office, and current Bishop of London.'
@@roswilliams2899 Of course she was, she received 2 million in bonuses.
i here she got a new disgiuse a lolly pop lady.
Selective memory, selective recollection and selective interest in delivering justice for JFSP.
and a selective sorry too.
"I can't recall" is the new slogan for the post office
It’s used by all senior executives and politicians when they’re found out.
'In hindsight' is another favourite. Lying scum.
It is the same one the RF uses
Should be the tagine beneath all PO signs now.
Mistake, sorry.
jail them all l. empty appology
Yes and for sure ! They are the criminals!
Really really sorry, what a load of nonsense, these people don't give a toss, they really don't
Jail um all of um.
No prison I am fed up saying it but none of these rogues will do any jail time.most will get promoted.total waste of money
Saying sorry will not put this right.....jail time is needed immediately!!
Weazel. Should be jailed on the spot.
No. She, and others, should have charged made, a trial and then, when found guilty, jailec.
Those charged must face the trauma innocent post office staff faced.
The only question and s how long they should be jailed for.
she got the same dead fish eye look as a sunnaks when he smiles.
It really frustrates me that Vennells will not go to jail, nor will she suffer any financial consequences at all. She is wealthy an privileged and there are different rules for these people.
Public revenge...
@@apollomemories7399protection will be provided, in heaps.
Correct this is a waste of money.vennels despite being a liar will not be jailed british citizens should disregard the law as it only there to protect the rich
She will go to jail. That's a nailed on certainty. Contempt of Parliament is grounds enough.
@@Fercough If you’re a pleb., yes. If you’re wealthy and might implicate others you’re likely to be protected.
Surprise, surprise, everyone in an executive position seem to have a limited knowledge of the facts. They should all be prosecuted.
20 years to say sorry as you have now been found out.......All Trying To Cover Their Backs....Prison must come to these people.
Not 20. 2013 to now is only 10 at most.
One can only hope, but I think not 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Bet it won’t
@@zetectic7968 It started for Alan Bates in the early 2000s.
You're not sorry, you just got caught. You would continue the lie if you could but now you're embarrassed.
Funny how all
( PO executives lawyers etc ) getting questioned, NOW want to apologise.
Even though they can't remember anything they were told or may have done...
how do you say sorry for what you can not recal.
Oh course he’s sorry , sorry that he’s been found out , jail them all .
Another snivelling lawyer-worded apology. Lock them up!
‘Amnesiacs R Us’ formerly known as The Post Office strikes again!
I am very sorry (reading from script) and I don’t remember anything that may incriminate myself!
All trying to save their own arses
So power-hungry executives refuses any limits on their powers. Sounds pretty normal. In this case, the executive has the unchecked power to prosecute, instead of reporting a crime to another body to take action, something few companies have. Not surprising at all. Imagine having no training on law and yet having the ability to decide on prosecution. Wonderful. Who would want to give up that power?
Anyone has the power to bring a private prosecution, it's just a total ballache. They did refer these charges to CPS refused to prosecute for lack of avidemce
Wow! I never heard such insincere apologies. This should count for an additional year in prison.
5 more years please. They'll get out of open prison early with an award and bonus for "good behavior" and memory loss.
Funny they remember to get their bonuses amd pay every month, and remember EVERYTHING they think shows them in a good light, but remember NOTHING when their showed in a BAD light, what a surprise,Stop their pensions, reclaim ALL their bonuses and make them unemployable.
Will any of those responsible go to prison?
Will Paula Vennells wear her vicar’s collar when she finally appears, or has god given up on her.
She will be drinking goats blood and chanting
She has left the clergy, thank goodness.
Working for The Post Office is dangerous - it causes severe memory loss.
Too few words far too late
Jail must be very soon
He had the chance to intervene at the time and bottled it,effing coward with no spine.
These post office execs must prosecuted for this. This was systemic
Does this man really believe we think this is true?
This enquiry is sounding more and more like a game of pass the parcel - or it wasn’t me, I know nothing, it must have been someone else
So what happened to all the money that went missing ?
It must have shown up somewhere in the post office accounts or horizons?
That is the question.
That would only be 'guaranteed' if the system was working properly - with no faults, 'glitches' or 'invisible updates'! The 'shortfalls' supposedly identified by Horizon were likely almost all down to fauts and glitches in the system, so more than likely no 'real money' was missing!
@@rosssimpson6268 thank you.
Why do so many senior people have 'dementia' level recall of their actions and involvement? 'I can't recall' is like pleading the 5th we all know what it means! 😡😡😡
Remember Ernest Saunders?
It is great that they are apologising it is an admission of guilt.
A privately owned company should not ever be allowed to bring criminal prosecutions. That’s what the police are there for.
Well, that lets POL bring criminal prosecutions, as it's not a 'privately owned company'! FWIW, ANYONE (or any Company) can initiate a private prosecution, even for criminal activity! That right could well be reviewed as a consequence of this scandal, though whether any change would make the process fairer is debatable! To me, the entire culture of POL is obscenely faulty and Fujitsu's attitude was also oscene, though likely constrained by contracts!
Should be locked up the buck stops here if you are in charge take the responsibility and do the right things like telling the truth would be a start.
Some people seem to be above the law
They think they are, yes.
Why is paula not facing prison ?
Apology from their general counsel years later and when caught red handed just does NOT cut it 🤬
Surely any apology is far too late!
God almighty. Postmasters didn't have to endure "anguish". They had (as entirely innocent people) to endure PRISON. They were imprisoned by people who knowingly lied. Some committed suicide. Those responsible in the post office should now be charged, convicted, and sent to jail for a very long time. Let's not be fooled by their crocodile tears.
They say the Devil is God & vice versa undoubtedly this woman who masquerades as a priest proves it ??
I don't think I was there, and if I was there, I don't remember who else was there, or what was discussed.
Total loss of memory.
Or, lying through his back teeth.
Why bother investigating when prosecution results in revenue?
The people involved in this CRIMINAL behaviour must go to prison.
A very sincere apology, ON BEHALF OF. Then, proceeds to spread the blame but can't remember all the names of those who sincerely apologise.
Also, why would Paula Vennells suddenly give instruction to limit the amount of prosecutions, surely if they are guilty it would be all of the accused? And which sub-postmasters should be prosecuted, any? Just keep the numbers down to limit the exposure of the injustice?
Vennells needs some serious jail time.
British management is full of people like this; people who believe they are above the law, and believe they are untouchable. In this instance, the only reason we are hearing any apologise is not because they have were wrong, they are only uttering these words because they have been caught. The twisted irony is that the innocent have been prosecuted, sentenced and financially ruined and yet the actual guilty parties will walk away untouched.
I hope not. There must still be some integrity in the system somewhere.
As I've said elsewhere in connection to this enquiry, if I was a sub postmaster who had been wronged by the post office, I would stand up and tell this guy where to stick his apology
Memory loss seems to be a common theme 🤔
Should of been a judge led enquiry so these people could of been arrested, once again the government looking after their own, this happens all the time when something major happens,no one ever gets jailed instead they say sorry and walk,
It is judge-led. He appears in some of the videos.
Why aren't you in gaol on remand awaiting trial?
Not a danger to the public, unlikely to abscond and innocent until proven guilty - unfortunately.
I used to work as a temp postman during my student vacacations in the 1970's.I knew the PO could run their own prosecutions -I was told. The Post Office bosses never knew about it?
It's too late saying sorry now ,
You all knew what you were doing when you were jailing the innocent, then it was all how good are we,!!
Well done everybody .
Thats some more bonus comming to us!!.
They are all f-ing sorry!!! Then were is the compensation.
Everybody is sorry now that they have been exposed. If they really ARE sorry, what responsibility are they individually accepting and how do they propose to make reperation for the criminal damage they deliberately caused?
So, so sorry.... yeah right.... Now you say that, NOW. Not months or years ago. Only now.
They all start saying how sorry they are.
Yet no apologies when it mattered.
What a hypocrite!
Empty words fall upon deaf ears .
He is one of many who use the weasel words of a full apology to lesson the impact of the criminal court and sentencing. It’s inconceivable that their council haven’t broached the subject of the very real likelihood of a suspended or custodian sentence.
There's more than sufficient doubt to annul all convictions against sub postmasters.
It is in the public interest to bring prosecutions against all those involved. Justice needs to be done not delayed another 10 years.
'I'm really so so so deeply sorry I really and truly and utterly am but no , I can't remember anything about any of the bad stuff I did'
A weak apology just doesn’t cut it, the senior management involved should all be jailed and their big payouts taken from them. What they did was a disgrace.
Would not know what truth was if it bit her on the A.
dont start with sooooo
Memo : All POL Execs - Before you get torn to bits by the prosecution, be sure to express how extremely sorry you are ... with feeling and regret !
Prison
He should be arrested
Sorry is not good enough it’s time for jail
Rwanda?
Well they all apologise now.Empty words.
So easy to say sorry now that they've been asked to testify.
Am I missing something ...why are the police not involved, investigating, arresting ANYONE, ANYTHING !!!!!!
Just be patient! She’s going to get annihilated by Jason Beer soon! The criminal convictions will follow the inquiry :)
The police are said to be watching with interest. Stay tuned.
I don't want to go to jail
I cant recall just means unless you can provide evidence to say otherwise I will say no.
Far too late...what a bloody cheek... let's see how is memory is now.
To a ‘man’ no one can remember, must be in the tea.
They're all 'deeply sorry' now,....now they've been caught..
His offer is too late.
0:47 Yet its still continuing and they are still saying Horizon is great. And we now have the false charges for fake stamps that they've now had to "pause"
I'm ashamed of this and all that's going on. It's not only a shambles, but a black mark on the worldly recognised British justice system.
I'm hoping that the people responsible will do jail time and lose their own bank accounts and assets that they gained during their time of power.
They are only sorry that they got caught.
What does in a general sense actually mean 🤷♀️
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Paula Vennells. With the full knowledge that her prosecutions were legally and abhorrently unsafe, she had the power to STOP this. She didn't. Instead, she pushed the corporate lie. Power, gain and glory...
All their bonuses should have to be paid back and their pensions ceased.
There is no sincerity like false sincerity. He is an educated person with the level of memory recall of your average dementia patient. Remember he is under oath here.
Hasn't done much homework, has he, old Aujard!!
Imagine the joy of meeting Vennels on the street.
from Reverend Paula Vennells’ Wikipedia page: “In May 2021 she left the Church of England's Ethical Investment Advisory Group on which she had previously served.”😮
As usual, inquiry doesn't get to the nub of the problems.
Another one with “No recollection “ amazing isn’t it so many of them high earners with loss of memory?
They’ve had enough time now to dispose of their assets.
Prompted apologies are worthless.
1:48 He can't say 'yes' to a simple question
Again they all start with apologies, thats great but it seems they have been schooled to say it , but could not even memorise some names and again as some others have noted they never remember the meetings or what was said
Trying to control the dialogue to save her own skin!
Words are cheap.
'Mr. Aujard, you were Former General Counsel for the Post Office. Is that correct?'
Was I? I don't recall that. Where am I, by the way, and who are you? Please remind me what my name is, again?
Ten years appears to be the right punishment for Vennells. The first year should not be at a toffs' comfy open prison. The establishment desperately needs to distance itself from the accusation they've gone postal. That is, that brand protection trumps even justice and humanity... something many suspect has already infected major political parties who increasingly look the same, using different lies to give the impression they are different.
Reading from an arranged script…thank you my lawyers..total ollocks
Wow, how can he sit there and lie like that (again).
