It sucks seeing malls and movie theaters closed down. I loved hanging out with my friends and family at the mall, playing games in the arcade, then wandering over to the movie theater to watch a movie. Life seemed so much simpler and exciting. I don't know if that was really the case or just the innocence of being a kid, but man those were some good times.

Marjorie Rawlings house where she wrote "The Yearling" coincidentally was also a great movie w Gregory Peck made. Also the Ford/Edison houses would be good trips to take. You may have already vlogged those but Florida has sooo many odd and interesting places to visit. A good book to get and gander at is "Weird Florida" by Charlie Carlson RIP. Might be able to get off thriftbooks or amazon.

Reminds me of On the Road with Charles Kuralt and Huell Howser's Videolog and California's Gold series. The way the video lingers at the end also reminds me of the way CBS would end their Sunday Mornings show with a 'We leave you now with a view of ' then cut to a few scenes of nature somewhere on the planet with no voice over. Good times.

Boring stories: When we'd drive to Orlando from Eau Gallie, we would take 192 to Orange Blossom about half the time, but we often took US-1 to Cocoa, and then the "Bithlo Cutoff", which was FL 520. It started at Byrd Plaza, at least after they built Byrd Plaza, and went through the pines and oaks until it reached FL 50 in Bithlo..I don't think we ever went through Christmas, although, of course, I always wanted to see it. I only remember two details about the town of Bithlo: a furniture store, which I like to think was Indian River Furniture, although I don't know; and the highlight of our trip home, if I could get my parents to stop: the Dairy King dairy dip, with the rare, chocolate, soft serve ice cream cones! In my mind, I don't even see anymore buildings in Bithlo but those two, although I'm sure there were houses, small stores, etc. At the furniture store, I stayed out in the car in the backseat, and played "The Silver Service" with my backseat throw pillow "doll", while my parents looked at the furniture they wanted to see.
One time, we took a rarely taken shortcut through the trees, starting at a road that began next to the German restaurant on US-1 in Rockledge, a restaurant which was later changed to Ashley's. There's no road at all there anymore! It may have been a long driveway, which continued on to another driveway, which came out on 520. We drove deeper and deeper into the woods, which was kind of spooky. After turning in different directions many times, we passed a decayed "mansion" in the distant trees. This was closer to 520 and 50 than US-1; not long after, we came to the familiar paved road. I see no trace of any road through there on Google Maps, or any old house, but I know that we did take that road. It was probably reclaimed by the forest long ago, just like that house was falling down in the forest around 1959-60.
Another time, around 1960 or 61, my mom had been told about a great antique shop in a small town north of 50. She loved to go junking with the girls, and one of our friends had told her about this place. So we drove off FL 50, toward this town, on I do not know which road. We drove through countryside with small farms, and mile after mile of "no civilization", meaning no stores, restaurants, or even gas stations or garages with telephone booths. It was overcast and threatening to rain, which made the ponds we encountered seem more dangerous. And of course, we had nothing like a cell phone . We eventually came to the first of two towns on the list, which I believe was Geneva, although it looked much smaller than today. We saw the white, Victorian, two-story antique store, and another building, both with no sign of anyone being inside. To even get to them, we had to drive between two ponds, very close to the road, or at least that's how I remember it. I'm pretty sure that Oviedo was the second town we were trying for, although we turned around and went back to East Colonial, instead. We had managed not to be caught by a downpour, so we took no more chances. I knew the names of the towns from the weather forecasts on TV, so I wanted to see both of them, so I could say I had been to those places on TV. My mom had a friend named Geneva back in Tennessee, so that's one reason I think that was the name of the town we reached..You would think we went to the frontier in a Conestoga wagon, as big an adventure as we acted like it was. I'd love to go back there and drive around.

That used to be our kangaroo gas station closed down a little over a year ago. The neighborhood always feeds those ducks and they bite too. So glad that you were able to come around my neighborhood. I live right behind the park. The interstate you were talking about is the 528(beach line). Thank you for showing our little area should check out the Orlando speedway just before 520 they have cool events always going on

In 2009 when at WDW with our kids, we drove to Howard Johnson’s in Titusville for their tender-sweet fried clams. Ho Jo’s had closed in Michigan. That was the last time we ever had those clams. Found a recipe, but never made them. Secret ingredients: condensed milk and corn meal.

I am loving these backroads videos Adam. I live in Pinellas County Florida. It is so built up here no land left. The traffic is terrible and so overcrowded.

Love these off the road vlogs. Talking to the animals that you find along the way too Mr. Adam. But sad to see so many closed businesses along the way... someone's dreams ! Be safe and well.

My absolute favorite type of Woo Content.
The 'Celebration Place' complex had a very dystopian feel to it.
PS: the tall "monument" is an Obelisk.
God Bless you and your Family sir.

We have a chicken neighborhood here in Phoenix. It is centered roughly on 34th Street, South of Osborne Road. It dates from the era when that particular area was a citrus farm. Several hundred chickens, guinea fowl and peacocks roam the neighborhood at will. Gangs of adolescant roosters terrorize the neighborhood cats. It's great fun. Everybody feeds the birds.

Before you even said it, I thought to myself, “that looks like an old Rax”.
It’s amazing that old store (and many other buildings like it) still stands, especially after all the 2004 hurricanes that crossed central Florida.
Really enjoy these kind of videos. Makes me miss Florida (I lived on the Treasure Coast for quite awhile).
