We visited Christmas 6 years ago. The lovely lady in the gift shop was amazed as we are from England and she said most tourists stick to Disney World. Not a lot there but we did enjoy our visit around the Fort and my quirky gifts from the shop still have pride of place in my home... Greetings from England 🏴✨🎄

The following, submitted December 2005, is from Mary Shearhart, niece of the artist James H Wheeler He was born at Fort Christmas, Florida in April 24, 1901. My mother, three years younger, was his only sibling and very close as their mother died when he was only five and raised like foster children by friends and family members. His father was not a good provider and basically abandoned them until they were old enough to work around the home and keep house for him. He showed exceptional artistic talent at a very young age. His teen years were spent as a cowhand in the wilds of Orange and Osceola Counties in Central Florida. He remained a simple, Florida Cracker. He did get a scholarship to Paris, and he went to study sculpting. Was part of the 1932 Olympic as part of a sculpting display, or show
I lived in Orlando in the nineties oh brother this is really sad to see. I'm in Stilllwater Minnesota and I was their for 7 hours Christmas Eve enjoying the Christmas lights and festivities in that small town. Absolutely beautiful place to visit.

I remember traveling from North Carolina to Miami by car and my uncle brought us through Christmas Florida I was so excited as a child and looked out the window to everything they embrace Christmas year round. Been there several times throughout my life. One of those places that I would have loved to have seen when all of those relics that you found scattered around were new. Generations of the past embraced things differently than generations today do. ~~I enjoy going to Christmas in early December when they have their Christmas celebration called Cracker Christmas. It’s held in that county park that was closed. It’s an arts and crafts, food, and pioneer history kinda day. Merry Christmas Adam! 🎄🎄

Reminds me of giant Santa Claus statue built by Kenneth Vaughn in the 1940's for a strip-mall/juice stand in Santa Claus Lane, California (now New England themed village) on the way to Santa Barbara. In 2003 statue was moved to a trailer park in Oxnard, CA. It can be seen from the 101 highway if you’re headed north.
My family liked to camp nearby and we always stopped at Santa's village. It was pretty slow last time I went there in 2008 ish. Glad the Santa statue lives on!

Those three crosses behind the old manger are "Coffindaffer crosses." They're the 20-foot tall blue and yellow crosses you in rural areas next to the highway. Look them up. It's an incredibly bizarre story. Adam I'd think you know about Coffindaffer crosses and Toynbee tiles for that matter, as much as you've been an the road in your life.

I lived at that edge of east Orlando. There was a town called Bithlo and then Christmas. The saying going east was Bithlo, the nightmare before Christmas. Or Bithlo mow your yard and find a car... LOL They had an old live Christmas tree and some evil stupid kids killed it once. I am glad they have a new one.

Thanks for sharing. Back in the late 90's I used to go by there when I was with the Civil Air Patrol and we had weekend encampments out at Tosohatchee off Taylor Creek Road. I remember seeing the tree. By the way, we watch Ernest Saves Christmas every year and wondered if you have done a filming location vlog for that. There are SO many familiar places in that movie.

I find the whole town sad and tacky, maybe in it's heyday but it's really disappointing and creepy. To each his own I guess.

I like the way you find places to stop at! {over in rural parts of Citrus County mail is delivered by designated personal car. often these cars have steering wheel on passenger side. (there is a magnetic sign that goes on the vehicle stating mail delivery.)}

Thanks for this Adam and Merry Christmas! I wonder why the residents of Christmas have allowed that display area to go to rack and ruin?! With a little clean up, landscaping, paint and some new signage, they might have more visitors.

Thanks for sharing. Back in the late 90's I used to go by there when I was with the Civil Air Patrol and we had weekend encampments out at Tosohatchee off Taylor Creek Road. I remember seeing the tree. By the way, we watch Ernest Saves Christmas every year and wondered if you have done a filming location vlog for that. There are SO many familiar places in that movie.

We have a Christmas, Michigan also, but it is way, way up north on the shores of one of our Great Lakes , Lake Superior. However, our Christmas, Michigan is much, much smaller than the one there in Florida. In our Christmas we can watch the Great Lakes ships passing by.
