Thanks for giving our products a try! Certainly noticed a couple things you could have done differently to help avoid some of the challenges you had. Just like if we painted a car for the first time with traditional auto paint, we would certainly benefit from having experts like you around for guidance. You guys are more than welcome to come to our facility in FL for your next dip project. I’d be happy to give you hands-on training to help you dial it in. Let me know if interested, could be fun! Thanks again - Fonz

Thanks for the comment. We love the fact that we could change the look of our project in a matter of just an afternoon rather then days and weeks for a proper OEM color change. Some cars just aren’t deserving of going through all that work when the labor rate and price of paint cost more then the car which is why we have dip your car a try. Would love to take a look at how the pros do it for our next project so that we can have a better experience learning from a seasoned veteran. Thank you.

I totally agreed with what u said towards the end. I tried this with my son and the gun kept drying on us and spitting spots once in a while. What I recommend for beginners is to have extra paint container so when your done with one just hook it up right away and continue. Also let it dry about 15 minutes between coats before hitting again. While your waiting clean the whole gun. They do get clog fast If u let it dry a few minutes.

When I paint I keep a cup with thinner and a brush in the area to constantly clean the spray gun nozzle to prevent that.

Thank you Paint Society for helping an newbie! The videos helped me take on the scary challenge of painting my 1986 Mustang LX notchback mustang. From Sanding to Primer to Finished paint. I painted the car completely disassembled and by hanging pieces up on threaded tube from Lowes using welding wire I made into a "swing set frame". Hanging each piece up 18 feet across. The hood, fenders, trunk lid, etc. Painting each part inside and out.
The toughest part I found was really getting to know your gun. Using practice pieces to get the proper spray pattern. HVLP have COMPLETELY different Tip requirements:
    GUN AND TURBINE SET UP:
    I have a Fuji Mini Mite Platinum 4 with a T-25 gun - HVLP
    BOOTH:
GorrilasPro 33' deep Inflatable with Updated Directed air control
    TIP SIZE FOR GUN:
Primer I used a 1.8 tip screwed in 2 whole turns to get good atomization. 2k Primer with no sealer as the panels didn't need a sealer. May even been able to use a 1.5 tip wide open.
Base I used a 1.5 tip screwed in 1 to 1 1/2 turns. This could have also been a 1.3 tip wide open but didn't have one to try out.
Clear I used a 1.0 Tip screwed in 1 turn. This might have gone down to a .8 tip wide open but didn't have one to try. Worried about dry spray so went with 1.0.
    DOCUMENT EVERYTHING:
Get a 3 ring binder and record your spray gun settings per the paint product. This keeps for forgetting what your settings were. Laminate your paint manufacturers instructions and put them in the binder for future use. Make notes and take pictures of your work. Record temperature readings in the booth and date and time. Record drying times to see if they line up with manufacturers drying recommendations. Helps you find a mixing mistake or if you were sold the wrong reducer, hardener or anything else. Log everything if you really want to get good.
    HARDEST PART TO MASTER?:
The Clear - Finding the best setting on the gun took patience and testing PRIOR to painting anything. Test Spray wood, old shelving, or anything and double check before spraying.
    OVERALL RESULTS:
Unbelievable. The Fuji Mini Mite Platinum 4 is absolutely incredible. The T-25 series gun that came with it lays down ULTRA Flat with little sanding needed before spraying base coat and clear.
But man does it eat paint. Comes out very fast and you have to move quick laying each coat down with lots of patience allowing each coat to really dry. The gun empties fast but the job goes quick. I have a friend that painted hundreds of high end resto mods and classics. I had him come and look at the first pieces and he couldn't believe the end results. Ultra Flat and near perfect finish with little wet sanding. The base was flat and perfect. The clear had very minor wave to it and needs slight wet sanding and buffing. He was used to a compressor, air dryer and water filter and couldn't believe such a small compact turbine could make such an Amazing finish. He was blown away and stuck around as I sprayed a few pieces and he watched. He said..."Man, I'm getting one of these". He used Sata Guns for years and said that the Fuji blew his Sata's away. Now he's buying a Fuji Mini Mite Platinum 4 setup. HVLP Turbines are completely different in set up and use.
    GorrillasPro Booth:
Absolutely incredible. NO overspray or dried areas anywhere on the car. Jambs came out perfect and the top and side surfaces free of dry spray or over spray. Washing the floor of the booth between stages really helps. Use a garden hose and rinse everything down between your Primer, Base and clear.
FUJI Mini Mite Platinum 4 and T25 GUN:
Supper flat. Almost no overspray and Flat as a pancake. Buy the extra hose for additional length and ease of use. Wipe your hose down between coats to keep dust from stirring up while dragging it around. A damp rag is all that is needed.
Paint Society took away my fears in painting and I learned so much about this amazing skill. Without your help, I have no idea if I would have had the courage to do this work.
Patience is the key! Your sanding is your finished product. Spend your time prepping the car ...not painting the car. If your prep is good, then you are all set. Wash clean over and over as you move from one stage to another. Keep that car clean and tacked off even if you think you got it clean....clean it again and ...again.
Would love to see more HVLP videos using Turbine Set ups. You have to rethink your Tip Sizes with HVLP as they typically are a size or two smaller to get the best results but man do they atomize.

Peeling while wet is what you needed to prevent bridging. But, the results for a first timer is very good. Yes, it took me few car dips to get it smooth and good. The gun can be tricky with drying, I recommend that you place it in a plastic grocery bag between coats so dip on and in it doesn't dry being exposed to air. I also clean the spray head every gallon to prevent clogging.

Very nice. It seems the turbine sprayers have a tendency ro put quite a bit of heat into the sprayer itself. Thats why they are constantly stopping, the paint tries to dry in the gun. Even with latex. Nit sure about an oul based line Rust-Oleum, maybe ill give it a try.

Good job man. I'm really impressed with your work. Im going to do mine soon but I need your help. I have bought Airless sprayer product called wagner motorcoat. Are they do any good to spray on my car compare to air compressor??
Ive found that the cfm is too high compare to air compressor. On air compressor the lower cfm you can have is 12 cfm to spray on a car. On wagner motorcoat sprayer the cfm is 40cfm. Is that too high??
Can I low the settings for the psi pressure to reduce the cfm from 40 cfm to 12cfm?
And what worry me is the noise due to high pressure.
If you don't have any problem with it that you made great finish with Airless sprayer compare to sir compressor please let me know.

    ● Good idea to spray naptha through the gun between coats.
They have a new improved gun that is better also in the G-Force gun. You should look into this for next time. You can use the bew gun with the old system you have.

Yeah not a fan of Plasti dip beyond some trims or wheels or maybe an old Jeep because zero fucks given. Cars with it generally look ghetto and plasti is porous so it traps dirt and grime. It's sad people support dyc and made the dude FILTHY rich because they didn't go a little more expensive for a real paint job.
The only good thing about plasti is it's peelable which will be very helpful after you've had remorse about the paint job after a few weeks.... Better off vinyl wrapping it looks much cleaner.... And vinyl lasts for a decade or longer.
