Did the same thing years ago. We used an airless sprayer with a new 515 tip and used industrial enamel and paint thinner to paint a VW bug. Industrial enamel is machinery paint and cheap but also very hard and oil resistant. Turned out great.
I'm a residential guy also, do a lot of spraying with the FFLP and FFT over the years and I've always thought I could do a car this way. As the finish is so good from those tips.
Thanks so much for all the feedback! Just to remind the technical detailed people, I am not an automotive painter. I had great results from this project on this fleet van. I am a commercial and residential painter and may not have done this job to the standard of those of you in the vehicle painting industry. Its fun, corny, and worked well!
Lmao ..... ive been wondering if can use that pump, dude u just saved $700 paint job I'm gonna do this to my girls car before mine though🤪🤜🤛🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙Good job bro! Aloha
Awesome video man! You have an awesome sense of humor. I enjoyed the entire video. Thanks for the info as well, getting ready to use my airless to paint my tool truck now 👍
i use to paint cars for a living, specificly jaguars,,, we used a metal to paint primer called etch,,it stopped the flash rust ,, i dont think you had to wait 6 hours in between coats if the temp is over 75 degrees,,,, when i saw what your were doing i thought it was going to be one messed up job, to my surprize your painting job , rivaled any industrial job, way to go and thanks for sharing
I've been spraying cabinets, and all sorts of stuff for 25 years,I'm sure I good pull off a pretty slick paint job on a car with a airless and a 209 or 310 tip.
So much fun doing this video in a sarcastic kind of corny way. I am stoked to see it circulate a bit! anything is possible as far as do it your selfers.
Bud, best van paint video on the tube, I couldn’t find any info on using an airless sprayer with certain paint, and you are an actual painter so you eased my mind a lot mentioning the 410 tip. I have a small airless that I will be spraying an Astro in rustoleum tractor paint, Ford grey color. Knocked it out of the park my dude, thank you.
I always wondered if I could use my Wagner pro airless to spray a car. Looks like it came out very nice. What do you think compared to air compressor spray finish?
This might be 8 years old but it just helped me make my decision lol. I have a nova 390pc. I'll be painting my gmc 2500 van soon. I'm a Sherwin Williams guy too. What do you think the best to use these days?
Lite coats, fine tip, high pressure, and lots of dry time between coats. At least a night. Better more coats than less heavy ones for sure. Thanks for the comment! More fun vids to come.
itzPlayTime its holding up really well and is a fleet van now. I just used sherkem right out of the can and thinned it a bit. No other additives. I would do lighter coats and more of them. I had a couple sags I'm the heavier areas nothing super noticeable.
Products for the most part are losted in the video, what are you looking for specifically? Most of the work is in prep, and for overkill rust treatment in any areas that need it. Any industrial steel metal paint you can spray will work. Do not go for coverage! Do as many coats as you need. Too much material will sag on smooth vertical surfaces.
Travis Benfield that’s wrong respirator for paint fumes, correct one has cotton like pre filters, then charcoal canister. That mask is appropriate for say concrete dust stuff that is a dust and fumes that are not harmful. That mask will keep the paint out of your noise hairs but not the toxic fumes.
You need to take a closer look, those are fume filters NOT just dust filters, don't let the pink covers fool you. I just bought the same ones and they are multi- gas filters w/ pink covers.
I took a trailer out of the back yard and rubbed a fence post pretty hard and was blown away that it only left a scuff haha! Still using the van in our fleet.
@@duartepaintinghandymanservices you might be right about that. It was right out of the package, but maybe 4/10 finishing was a little soft for such a heavy duty product.
Wow.... It seems you have a bit of dyslexia going there. Yeah, the others caught it, but here's the skinny for the newbies that want the actual info ... The first number (4 in this case) is used for the fan size. If you multiply it by 2 the result is the approximate fan size when the tip is about 12" from the surface being sprayed. So a 410 tip has an approximate 8" fan when the tip is 12" from the surface to be painted. The last two digits are the orifice size in thousands. So this tip has a .010 (ten-thousandths) opening for the paint to go through. Orifice size is directly relational to how many gallons per minute of material will be passed through the tip. If you have a big orifice and a little pump... Well, you see the problem, gentlemen. ;-) .

I used to drive one of those vans for hauling cargo boxes. It was awesome and fast. Thanks for making it good again. Very nice job.
I always wanted to see if this can be done !! U did a great job considering its your 1st auto paint project.

How's it look in 2020? Have any rust spots bubbled up? Did you do much (or any) sanding between coats?

What do you think compared to air compressor spray finish?
Air would be best but was overall happy.
Good job 👍
looks awesome...glossy white...Any industrial alkyd paint will work for a car or truck ? why did you not shoot a coat of primer first ?
Wish I could like this a 1000x
They are good work vans. Just have to go slow with anything heavy.
Listen people ! He tells you all about the equipment and material
No kidding ahah
I need a paint job like that
How high was your gauge set? Sorry if you said it in the video, I missed it if you did. Thanks

Skippy A how did your paint job turn out
I've been thinking about doing the same. so you didn't add any liquid hardner or clear coat ? how does it look now. thanks
itzPlayTime its holding up really well and is a fleet van now. I just used sherkem right out of the can and thinned it a bit. No other additives. I would do lighter coats and more of them. I had a couple sags I'm the heavier areas nothing super noticeable.
Great job!!!!! Can I get the name of the materials you used for your van???? I want to paint my work van too

I think what really set this video off is this guy's mullet. Hahaaha... I am thinking about using my sprayer to do this.
That mask you had on was a heavy duty dust mask. Not for paint fumes, you needs one with charcoal filters
He has charcoal filters it's a 3m mask with charcoal filters

@@nortavon yes you are very correct! Great cartridges. Nice
Can you tell what's the name of everything you used to mix it with anda where you buy it at
Hi jds what kind of paint were u spraying and where did u get it from?
sherwin williams
product rundown in video
Hell yeah
Well done! What size tip did you use on your sprayer?
He said 4-10 = 8 inches fan.
Didnu put clear?
what kind of paint use for this project
5:50 mark: he used Sher-Kem from Sherwin Williams
That was different
Certainly different to the usual 2 stage 2K paint system.
The Gunman. Hey whats up what do u think about painting a car this way ?
what is the advantage in using plasti dip?
You got a bush truck? Dip is good< not something I have done personally.
Super
It's been a few years, how did it hold up?
I took a trailer out of the back yard and rubbed a fence post pretty hard and was blown away that it only left a scuff haha! Still using the van in our fleet.
What *number* spray tip was used? Did miss that info?
4/10 tip
Eye drops, hahaha.... Highest I have ever been.
F@k yeah!..like new
Looks like a Ferrari now buddy
HAHA SaFerrari sports van!

I wonder if he lives in a van down by the river......
Yes I do!
My dude look like Shane fury
Wauld 310 tip be OK or a 410
Now go out there and do better work and charge more, then you can buy a new truck!!!
LOL STRAIGHT TRIP

How can l get you
pressure needs to go up, your gun is leaving tails
Yes that was frustrating.. That is at full pressure on the 395. Now I would have used a 495 minimum.
jds could have been the tip was blown

The audio quality of the video sux! Other then that, nice job!
perfect for stealing motorcycles
first number on an airless tip is the orifice. Second number is the fan width x2. so a 410 would have a 20 inch wide fan.
stoneygreek wrong! First number is the fan and the 2 last numbers is the orifice
