- Harbor Freight turbine sprayer HVLP. First time spraying with one of these. This unit is the entry level sprayer $102.00 after 20% coupon. I was impressed for the most part.
Thanks so much for making this video. I have never done any car painting but I'm going to be trying this soon with the same Harbor Freight HVLP unit. I did a lot of bondo rust repair on an old beater car to teach myself basic body work and the next step is basecoat/clearcoat. I'll use the 1.0 mm tip like you did. Just an old dude trying to learn something new.
How did it turn out?
I used to have a turbine system from Tip tools. I done tons of cars and trucks with it. No worries about water and oil contamination. Way to go these days.
Can you do complete paint jobs with a turbine sprayer?
@@beecnote7742 you can, just make sure to wet sand and i would advise to spray an extra 1 or 2 clear coats for a super flawless mirror-like finish!
@@beecnote7742 yes. I have. I use a Titan TS50, which is a 5 stage. I also have a Capspray 5100, which is 2 stage unit. You will definitely save money on material. There is hardly any over spray at all, so they use paint way more efficiently.

Thanks for the review! I need to repair some peeling top coat on my RV. Watching your review makes me realize I don't need to buy a huge air compressor to get the job done. Much appreciated.
Did you ever bought it i need to do something similar in my car 😂
Okay that took me awhile but you paint with either hand daaaaamn!!!
Lol. Yes I can spray with both hands.
Fantastic review.... I was waiting for someone to do exactly this review with Auto primer, paint and clear. Very well done and great details about percentage of reducers used.
Thank u for the honest review. I was looking at compressors but they are so pricey for me doing minor work like panels and boat motors. I will definitely pick one of these up now.
Great review of this starter kit. I really appreciate because you were so detail about it and showed how it sprays.
Awesome video. Thanks for the in depth review
Great vid…no BS review, well done 👍
Wow. Great review and timely. I just bought one on clearance for $99. Will be painting sailboat deck which is primarily 1” waterways and larger surface area for cabin sides and cockpit. I will be using 2 - part Interlux. Spray tip, reducer and your other tips will help. I wasn’t looking for perfect but your review shows I’ll get better results than I expected. This will be much better than roll and tipping. I hope to get primer and 3 coats donein a day. Last coat will have reducer to make it more semigloss. Thanks again for your straightforward real life review.
Thank you so much for doing the video.
I was thinking about getting a 3 stage motor and seeing how it does. You can geT 1 for about$100
Think this is a also a good example of "It ain't the horse, it's the Indian." I don't think I could get that nice-looking of a job with ten thousand bucks in equipment. xD
Thanks for the good review, this was a good one!
Great review!! Very helpful. Thank you. The paint job came out way better than I would expect from this unit. (Granted, you have way more skills than the average person 😂, but great job nonetheless). Thanks
I bought two of those exact machines , one was 2 stage and one was single stage . Boxes were identical
Did you open up the sprayer unit and look inside to see the turbines? This brings up a lot of questions. Was the unit in the video a 1-stage or a 2-stage? Mine is so weak that it must be a 1-stage. Please let me know what to look for to determine how many stages it has and whether or not the 2-stage sprays better.
Just the facts, Jack. I like it.
I already decided to go turbine instead of air compressor, but I'm saving my $$$ for TP Tools showtime 99 or the sprayfine 3 stage. The TP Tools package I'm looking at has base, primer, and touch up gun and a rolling turbine unit.
Price not bad did a decent job!
Thank you for your review. I have the TP Tools turbine sprayer that I haven't learned how to use yet but since it is paid for and I have a truck to paint wanted to watch some videos before I attempted it.
Nice, honest review.
It'd be a better machine if the pot were more transparent,
to see how much paint you have left to use.
Awesome. I’m going to paint my extended cab dually flat black or actually Matt black with Hardner and I guess that’s the ticket right there. Thank you. What an awesome procedure video. Flat black will look amazing for sure with that set up.
Great video man thank you
was about to spend 5000 on compressor and spray guns and tips, bla bla bla ..so much confusion...but now i got to get me one of those...
Thank you for the review. I have to paint my car and was on the fence of the whether I was going to use that or a more expensive model. Definitely going with it for the paint project!
Did you ever got to paint the car??
@@Justsendit95 I did, the results were pretty good. Thank you for the review again, it really helped
@@richardmcfink5305 I actually went to my local harbor freight and those turbines are discontinued i guess 🤦🏾♂️
@@Justsendit95 Get on the website, I've seen them at my local store here in FL.
@@richardmcfink5305 I’ll take a look you have any pics or vids of your results is it worth it?
I painted a car door and a fender and got heavy orange peel with that system. Maybe a slower reducer would have helped. Cut and cuffed it out, but that was a looong process with hardened single stage urethane (very hard paint). Do you think you can adjust that gun/paint for a glass like finish?
They have a new version of this now made by Avanti that is supposed to be even better quality I may have to give it a shot
Have you done this with maybe some of the Fuji Sprayers? Seeing what the Semi-pro 2 can do.
Saludos desde chile, muy buen trabajo, tengo una duda, cuantas vueltas les dio de salida al producto para llegar a ese acabado, saludos y éxitos
Hi, I used your video for reference. I just tried painting my doors with Eastwood's Black 2k Urethane Primer. I used the 1.5mm tip, its a 4:1 mix and I then added a small amount of reducer (like 5%). The biggest issue I had was crazy orange peel. It cured nice, but looks like a wall in my home after I hit with a roller! I'm not too concerned because I need block sand these doors anyway, so I'll get it smooth. This was over a 2k epoxy primer (used those new 2k rattle cans) scuffed to 400 grit. I noticed the paint was drying very quick, and the air house was very warm. I know turbines out out hot air. This was in my driveway, ambient was like 78 degress. Any tips?
If the primer went down well (which it didn't), I was maybe going to use this same turbine to do the topcoat (single stage urethane). The SSU would be cut and polished too, so a little orange peel is fine, it would come out in the polish.
You used to big of a tip thats why you got the orange peel like you did He used the 1.0 tipI guess you can slow down the stroke to avoid dry coating
The HF kit should have came with a 1.3 tip but they don’t. 1.0 tip was the only one I could use and get pretty good results.
You need a higher stage hvlp , the more stages the cooler the air so you don’t get orange peel. It’s running to warm because it needs more stages for automotive paint. When using automotive paint ideally you want to use at least a 4 stage for best results.
The unit should probably be outside for fresh air. Unless there really isn’t anything in the air. Wouldn’t overspray cause it a problem.
Ive only sprayed cabinet lacquer with this hvlp i'm not sure it would do automotive paints well
What tip size did you use for sealer, base and clear am thinking about buying this turbine sprayer once I start working again it is like 400 bucks now at Harbor Freight.
Hard to tell on the paint job, need a up close shots pleaseeeee!
Great video! Thank you!
At 17:20 on the video, you said you were going to turn the fluid needle in a little bit when spraying the clear coat but you didn't explain why. Did you do this to get better atomization in order to prevent orange peel?
Could you in theory adapt the air hose to regular hvlp quick coupler
Great review. I'd like to see this on a bigger item, like a car fender or door. Maybe for the fuji, you could do that. Thanks
I don’t do much for car parts in my shop but something bigger is coming up.
The Fuji system is nice it will do a great job with these type of paints
Thanks so much for this, Im a DIY about to paint a car im restoring at home. You mentioned it came with a couple tips, what size would you recommend for Single Stage Urethane? Also did you say you used a 1.0 tip for the primer?
The kit comes with a 1.0, 1.5 and 1.8 needle and nozzle sizes. I used a 1.0 on the epoxy primer which was reduced 20% which made it pretty thin. That the reason for 3 coats for film thickness. A 1.5 tip made the droplets to big , and there’s just not enough air flow to atomize. 1.3 would be perfect but it’s not a option.
How did you thin the paint ratio?
Any way to run a different gun with that hose? Thanks.
How many Watts this machine??
usually you see a big cloud of overspray. This system creates none. Where do I sign up?
Thanks for taking the time to do a professional job with this thing! Good video. What was your routine between coats?
Did you try it?
Did your system come with the 1.0 tip? Mine didn't. Can you buy tips for these?
What do you think about using this for spraying some white pre-cat lacquer on some cabinets? Would I get a lot of orange peel or would it go on pretty smoothly?
How did you clean the system?
A darker background would’ve shown your “hiccup” better (e.g. more in front of filter wall).
good review
So did you use the 1.0 tip for the primer and paint?
Yes.
So how lone is the hose ?
How do you keep the paint from running?
Great review.Since most of these types of sprayers have 2 psi.How do you think you would have done with a Fuji Semi Pro 2 with 5 psi and way better gun.
Just wanted to edit my comment. If it is the same as the Rockler it should about 4 psi.
I will find out soon as I just bought one off my local marketplace for cheap and it’s brand new. I will do another video soon with it.
Nice.Thanks.Been bouncing one of these around for awhile.Looking at many, many reviews and forum posts.Fuji did say these would be fine for car paint at one time.
cant find this turbine at harbor freight. what is this turbine sprayer?
You need to show us the finished product up closer.
Is that like a lvlp gun
Are any parts upgradable or swappable ?
Can this be used on a full sized car?
It can but…… the unit will probably get hot and start to cause issues in the paint process. If it was me and I was trying to paint the whole car with this machine, I would pick a color that I could do it in steps like the doors and front fenders together the hood and roof together one day etc.
High volume LOW pressure
Good video whatt paint can used do the car thank. You
Need a 5 stage fuji
$$$$$$$$$$$😢
You can do this with a leaf blower. Hell, a good leaf blower will do better.
Take the Fuji for a test drive yet?
Not yet. Soon. Work has been busy.
@@hifiside5066 Cool.It is great your working during these times.Picked up a Earlex 6003 with gravity gun for a steal. And a new Ametek motor.Should be pushing almost 8 psi when done at less than a 1/4 of the price of a equal Fuji.
Great video. I have purchased a Fuji turbine system after getting priced out by the "pros" for painting my motorcycle projects. My first experimental paint job was this utility trailer ruclips.net/video/ZQGtg2GSF9k/видео.html Then painted a bunch of MC engine parts. Still learning dent pulling (and other body work stuff) then on to my first real paint job giving a facelift to my thrasher bike. Then on to painting two more recent resto mod bikes that are ready for paint. I will go check out more of your videos now. Edit: Too bad. Looks like you stopped posting videos. Thanks anyway!!!
Did you try the Fuji yet?
I haven’t yet. Work has kept us busy lately.
Good commercial
Constructive criticism: video is way too long
And if it was shorter I would have skip steps to do that.
