    I like these experiments and trials. You like to innovate and do your own thing. Who else is posting about a double feed set-up with 2 colors???

      Lots of fun stuff in store. I like the excellent paint results you got on your 67 Dart project. That color and clear looks real nice.

    Yes,I like what u are doing with the equipment, I have a Avanti 5 stage Turbine system and I am learning more on how to use it, and I do use a drop light like u do but I am 64 yr old and I can see a hole lot better using it than without it, I mostly spray farm tractor 🚜 and other equipment but keep up the great work that u are doing

      Hi I us a 1 mm B cap for base coats metallics, and a .8 greens cap for clear coats. Is this correct ??

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  9 месяцев назад +2

      Your setup is decent, here are some simple suggestions to help. Use the 0.8mm needle and tip for base coats - solid colors or metallic colors. Use the 1.0mm needle and tip for clear coats. The A air cap or B air cap works with either the 0.8mm or the 1.0mm for base coats or clear coats. However, some clears spray better with the 1.0mm and A air cap. Also, try the CC - HS air cap with the 1.0mm needle and tip, for some clears it works really well. The problem with using the 0.8mm needle and tip with some clear coats is going to be the paint mils thickness after the dry. It might be too thin with paint mils thickness. Clear coats have a percentage of solids, the higher solids clear coats can get choked up with the 0.8mm needle and tip, but they will flow and spray better with the 1.0mm or 1.3mm needle and tip. The lower solids clear coats can spray easily with the 0.8mm needle and tip, but you'll want to make sure the paint mils thickness can meet manufacturer recommended dry thickness - 2.0 mils to 2.3 mils, or even up to 2.5 mils for some paints. If you're going to spray low solids clear coats with the 0.8mm needle and tip, add an extra coat if the paint instructions allows for it. Example: 2-3 coats for coverage. Understand your choice of clear coat, some clears don't like the extra coats and they will solvent pop. Just remember - 0.8mm base coats, 1.0mm to 1.3mm clear coats. Hope this helps.

    I’d be interested to know what psi you get with the trigger pulled with the harbor freight gun and motor.

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  7 месяцев назад +2

      I'm interested too. I'll try to mod up a low pressure gauge, and we'll all be able to see the psi at trigger pull and at idle. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    When painting single stage with the Apollo atomizer what tip set up do you use?

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  9 месяцев назад +1

      When painting single stage, I would use a recipe similar to how I would spray clear coat. 1.0mm - 1.3mm needle and tip with the A - air cap, B - air cap, or CC -HS air cap. The mixture of the single stage, and how it flows will also determine if I can go down a size to the 0.8mm needle and tip. Some single stage paints mix thin, and the 0.8mm or 1.0mm will work with atomizing that type of single stage paint. The best way to determine if any of these suggestions will work, is to do some testing with different combinations before painting the a panel of project. I would start with reading the TDS (technical data sheet), and try to determine the solids content of the single stage paint. If it's a higher solids mix and flows thick - the larger needle and tip will work better - don't try over thinning the mix and spraying thin to accommodate a too small of a needle and tip choice. Sure, over thinning will work, but paint longevity and paint strength are compromised. If you're getting a lot of orange peel, it might not always be your turbine combination setup - but the cause of the orange peel is the brand of single stage paint. I've sprayed PPG single stage and some of their paint choices orange peel with air compressor spraying and turbine spraying. Glasurit has a great flowing single stage.

    Is this 0.8 tip or 1.0 ? Is the dark olive cap better than the gold one?

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  9 месяцев назад +1

      I used the 0.8mm for the base coat spray session and the 1.0mm for the clear coat spray session. The gold air cap, can be either the B air cap or the B - HS air cap. They are both an everyday, all around, spray anything - with any tip and needle combinations type of air cap. The A air cap ( green cap) can spray high solids automotive clears very well, and base coats too. I would choose the A air cap if I could only choose one air cap.

      Thank you, is there a practical reason to try 0.5 tip which is available from Apollo ?@@JakeLesada

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  8 месяцев назад +1

      A practical reason to use the 0.5mm tip would be if your coating flow is very thin, or if the thickness on the painted surface needs to be a thin coating. But, the paint material must be able to flow through the 0.5mm size orifice or you'll end up wanting to pressure up - to force flow the paint material thru the spray gun, and that will produce more overspray.

    So is a 1.0 and a .8 equals 1.8 at the final?! Right? 👍

      Right, but it depends on the application with the numbers.

    In your opinion, do you think you could spray autoflex with this system??

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  5 месяцев назад +1

      I'll try and get in touch with them next week and get more information on their SDS sheets to find out more info on chemistry. They have TDS sheets available on their website about application, and it looks like easy application for turbine spraying. Looks like they favor tighter overlaps per pass - similar to how I would do a double pass when I spray. Their spray gun recommendations are RP - (reduced pressure spray guns) and they currently don't include any data on spraying with turbine equipment. I would be interested in their DOI (Distinctness of Image) readings for texture (orange peel) before any polishing is done. Also, they are using a DIN #2 Zahn style measurement but don't include the time in seconds for flow viscosity. Water flows at around 17 seconds and I tend to use that as my reference number as to how any new clear coat paint material I test will flow out and spray. Also, the coverage in square feet per container at a specific mils paint thickness info would be good to know. With turbine spraying we should be able to get more out of each can. Thank you for the comment.

      @@JakeLesada wow thank you for getting back to me with such a informative response! I’m just learning about this process and I was thinking of doing spray wraps like Raail and/or auto flex. I cannot seem to find if these turbine machines can push this material. I keep reading naysayers say it’ll cause too much of an orange peel but I’m not convinced! It seems like the technology is there. I don’t really understand all of the terminology just yet but I’m learning! Your channel has been so helpful! Thank you again

    It looks orange peel. from the background lighting. i like your videos. cheers. i am still learning too. mine is fourstage, changed to vacuum size hose as the smaller hose suffocate the air supply. i also converted my gun to bleed type. turbine sprayer technology still have long way to go. its performance is not there yet and spray guns are too expensive.😂😂😂

      The original panel already had orange peel and this was a scuff and spray session - no flattening. If you get the chance check out the #shorts Orange peel comparison video I did with Sata RP and Apollo Spray gun. Thanks for watching and commenting.
