You laid that clear down nicely. Also its nice to see a RUclips painter who understands that you can’t spray to the edge of each panel (because the edge can’t hold as much paint). You should always spray at least a few inches beyond the panel edge so when you hit the next panel your overlap isn’t on the edge where it will run easily. @@GarageNoise You bet Chris! I have to say so far ALIBABA Express has sent me daily updates on where my order is. Not a black hole. But I will keep you informed. Feb. 5th is when it should arrive at my house.
My garage rule is low overspray so i'm selling all my guns that fog it up. Turbine is lowest overspray, but if using a compressor, I want that gun that can run at lower pressure, minimize fog, and atomize well. R500 is capable of that. Can paint with a 21 gallon as well. Still runs a lot, but does pretty well.
Appreciate the follow up with showing this gun putting down a drop coat. I'm sold. I don't have room for a large compressor but can definitely do a 20-30 gallon. Thank you!
OK, took your advice and ordered an R500. Just did my first clear coat with the 1.3 and I must say it sprayed beyond my expectations. It sprayed as well as my old Binks #7, which used to be the standard for us old-timey types back in the 80's. For you youngsters out there, if you've never shot a high pressure gun, it's the standard by which all else is judged. But...overspray is a serious problem. You haven't seen overspray until you use one. Any they are heavy.
@@davemcaferty6347 Here's my $.02...this is probably paint heresy but... I don't really pay much attention to PSI. I pattern the gun before every shoot meaning I adjust the psi and the spray...but I don't have a gauge on the gun. That requires good lighting. And no matter how good the gun, you are not going to do as good a job on the first paint job as the tenth. You have to get to know your equipment.

Great video. I just bought a R500 LVLP gun which I'll use to paint my 66 Mustang. Never done this before so these videos definitely help...Thanks. Question - is there an upper end time limit for letting coats flash off?
Basecoat flashtimes are typically around 24hrs but I personally wouldn't wait past a couple hour. Check your manufacturer's technical data sheet. Clearcoat needs to be more precise about 10 mins if you wait too long you can get dye back or loss of gloss. If you coat too quickly solvent pops. Some clears are more temperamental than others. Appreciate the comment and support!
I have and love my R500. I am naturally a slow painter. Thank you for over view ofR500. Question: I put some small spots of bondo on a panel with a spray can of primer over bondo. Can I use urethane paint over the primer or do I reprime with a two part primer? Thank you for your knowledge and expertise!
Sometimes we can’t get these motor home rear caps unless we go salvage yard hunting and crate fees and shipping are into the 1500 range so we do things we have to do and as long as we stand behind our work our reputation stays good! Love your break down of the whole repair! Great job once again! Hope y’all had a great Christmas!! Ps I tape adjacent panels when I spray sealer I feel that trying to cover a haze line in my blend panels causing me to move my base too far into the blend panels. Everything else you did beautiful
Nice to see Chris your using the PPS cup system mines started to leak 7 times there going to send me a free box out that what I do Chris lift it out off the cup 🥤 and check it 😀 good idea that 👍
R500's seem very decent but having just been doing a lot of painting with mine (first big project) I agree now with the info out there that they actually consume much more air than the 3.5-3.9 cfm that's billed. In turn, no shortage of mist/overspray, particularly spraying clear coat. Fair enought you may say, BUT this is less than ideal for the DIY home painter with no booth. It is reckoned they use more like 7.5-8 cfm (spraying clear at circa 32 psi).
I think your right, still best option I've found for diy. If you dial down the air pressure and fluid volume you will get less overspray. Appreciate the comment brother!
Why do we need sealer ? I think i talk about that in the video but the the sealer creates a uniform surface and color to apply the paint to. The blend creates a seamless transition of the color so it's not visible detectable. Hope this answers your question. Appreciate the comment!
You have used the R500 quite a bit. I’m bought one with your review and love it. I use it on wood projects and on my truck finish. Recommend it highly. I have question about your word (drop coat)? What do you mean?
Hi! What nozzle size would you recomend for epoxi primer? They sell this gun with 1.3 ; 1.4 ; 1.5 ; 1.7 and 2.0. I do rather small stuff like motorcycle gastanks and fenders and I I'm also limited by little 6 gallon compressor with 3,5 cfm. For clear coat and base I use Iwata LPH 80 and thick primer is a bit too much for it. Cheers!
Look up the technical data sheet for the epoxy primer your using it will give you a good recommendation for tip size. I feel like a 1.7 would be sufficient for epoxy tho. Appreciate the comment and support!
I bought the R500 and used all the setting you mentioned and same distance and speed movement. For some reason I’m getting tons of orange peel ! I’ve tried this gun several times on different occasions and still get tons of orange peel. So on the last coat I decided to switch guns to the Porphis-715 And I saw a huge improvement very little orange peel. Not sure what’s going on
Good tips on how to use the Spray-it👍With documented paint savings I should be using it more for those cheap jobs where I only have a pint or half pint of paint for a repair area. Totally unrelated, but I just bought and hooked up 50 foot of Flexilla hose and a Flexilla leader with a swivel. My opinion, Very nice flexible, cold resistant air line perfect for DIY/home-based business. Amazon purchase.
@@GarageNoise what they claim. Some kind of composite material. They have a promo burying it in the snow w other hoses. I guess it stays 'flexxy" My garage gets plenty cold when i'm not in it, so seemed like a good choice.
Btw Chris, what type of primer should I use on bare metal? can I just use 2k urethane or epoxy is a must. New to car painting and I am starting to gather my supplies.
Are you painting the whole car or just a repair? If your just doing a repair and painting a few panels 2k urethane is perfect. If your doing a full paint and you plan on it sitting in primer for awhile than use epoxy as soon as you take a panel to bare metal the clock is ticking to get it into primer. If you plan on painting it within a few months and it's not out in the elements tthan 2k urethane is great and what i perfer. Hope this helps appreciate the comment and support!
My car has crow feet in the front hood and back fender. Based on the forum I read, it says that I need to strip the paint to bare metal and there is now way to correct crow feet.
Love your channel. I started out painting in 75 but somehow 25yrs ago I started metal works and now it's all big wrecks. Since I started watching your channel my home shop is backup and running and producing paint work again. My r500 lplv just came today can't wait to try it. What cup system are you using and thanx for the inspiration
When I use a tack/wax cloth after a wipe it leaves wax residue that can make paint bubble. This is the first time I've seen this done last. No bubbles? Issues? I like to do a final wipe with wax and tar remover then shoot. Thanks
First time on your site. Getting back to painting. Was using a binks #5 gun old school and in the market to buy a gravity spray gun. I've been shopping around but I liked what I saw on your site. Are all paint cup liners the same?
They offer different sizes and brands. The series 1 disposable cups are what you want they cost less and work great. There all similar but inter mixing liners between brands may be a problem.
1.3 for all primer bases and clear Chris is that what your saying? Ps fab videos your content and real info are great that's what home garage guys want 🙋
That digital air pressure regulator that you are using. I used to get those at harbor freight and it seems they no longer carry those. I really liked them I only have one do you know where we can get more??
Hi, thx a lot for this vid! Just ordered the gun. Ive always loved polishing paints but now ive bought a motorcycle with some optical damage, its time to expand the fun. I live small (the netherlands) but i see you hardly use coverage in your garage. No ventilation as well am i right? Does the overspray spread that little?
Quick question. When you say small compressor, how many gallons and psi do you need? Plan on doing a mobile set up that I can run out of my ford expedition. Most of my clients have sealed garages. What size hose and compressor do you recommend?
Hi Chris. I have another question. At one video you mentioned 24psi when spraying a base. At this particular 20 for sealer and 20 for base. As I understood from all your videos 20-24 for primer sealer and base and 28-30 for clear. Please correct me if i am wrong Also. What tips do you use when spraying primer filler, sealer, base and clear . Assuming 1.3 for sealer/base/clear. I bought a kit with 1.3,1.7 and 2.0 tips.

Spectrum #57505 is the adapter . Or 3m legacy series #2
I am new to painting so this video is very helpful. Pretty work 👍
I am going to try this paint gun.
Awesome! That's what I like to hear. Let me know if you have questions. Appreciate your comment and support!
@@GarageNoise I will
Thank you
Sometimes we can’t get these motor home rear caps unless we go salvage yard hunting and crate fees and shipping are into the 1500 range so we do things we have to do and as long as we stand behind our work our reputation stays good! Love your break down of the whole repair! Great job once again! Hope y’all had a great Christmas!! Ps I tape adjacent panels when I spray sealer I feel that trying to cover a haze line in my blend panels causing me to move my base too far into the blend panels. Everything else you did beautiful
I have bought 2 of those guns , can't wait to try them .
great videos Chris, i am going to buy one of these spray guns, what tip size would you recommend for 2k Solid colors with no clear?
1.3 or 1.4
Nice to see Chris your using the PPS cup system mines started to leak 7 times there going to send me a free box out that what I do Chris lift it out off the cup 🥤 and check it 😀 good idea that 👍
👍
Are you changing out different needles for primer sealer base and clear? What needles are you using ?
Same needdle and tip for everything. 1.3 tip
I purchased on used it yesterday great results u can also buy the tip kit for it I sprayed flake out it so far so good
Thanks for sharing
Good job man, white is hard to spray. I appreciate the review of the gun.
Thank you! Appreciate the comment and support!
I bought one of the gun can't wait to try it out
👍
Thanks for the tip about the gun. What adaptor does it use for the cup system ?
Phillip Hall
There is some great detailed info in this video. Well done.
Thank you! appreciate the support!
Awesome video Chris. Happy New Year and God Bless.
Thank's brother!
Great video as usual! What adapter do you us for the Savito cups?
I got mine at harbor freight. I can't find it online but it's a 3/8 female adapter. Hope this helps appreciate the support!
why we need sealer and blend? not sure how many layers and each name/contents, but thanks for the nice video!
Why do we need sealer ? I think i talk about that in the video but the the sealer creates a uniform surface and color to apply the paint to. The blend creates a seamless transition of the color so it's not visible detectable. Hope this answers your question. Appreciate the comment!
Thanks for the great video. I'm going to try the R500 gun on my next project
It's a great value gun for sure!
Thank you! This answered so many garage questions!
Awesome! Appreciate the support!
Excellent video. I just ordered my spray gun👍
Awesome!
Nice job!
I just bought one for me!
Can you tell me the type of the cup adapter?
Spectrum 57507 harbor freight or 3m legacy #2 adapter
@@GarageNoise 16x1.5mm or 14x1mm?
Unsure bother. Sorry
@@expertcarpainter1373 it's a 16x1.5mm
This looks like it would work great for guitars as well! gonna have to give this gun a whirl
I'm sure it would. Appreciate your comment and support!
What water filter is that going to order gun but can’t find that water seperator
Sir, what tip size ?
I'm looking at the same gun at princess auto it comes with a 1.5 in their package
Hi master can I remove the tiny filter the came into the gun R500 how is damage the finish clear.
Yes, remove it all it does is restrict paint flow. Appreciate the comment!
Thank you !!!
Hello, I was wondering what nozzle size you were using
1.3 appreciate the support!
awesome video great help. where did you get the adaptor to use the cup system you have in the video
Harbor freight spectrum #57505
You have used the R500 quite a bit. I’m bought one with your review and love it. I use it on wood projects and on my truck finish. Recommend it highly.
I have question about your word (drop coat)? What do you mean?
Great to hear!
So on the last coat I decided to switch guns to the Porphis-715
And I saw a huge improvement very little orange peel. Not sure what’s going on
...Am interested in views on whether to go for solvent or water based product.
Quick question. What adapter are you using for the cup system?
Spectrum 57505 from harbor freight orThe 3m legacy #2 adapter
Good tips on how to use the Spray-it👍With documented paint savings I should be using it more for those cheap jobs where I only have a pint or half pint of paint for a repair area.
Totally unrelated, but I just bought and hooked up 50 foot of Flexilla hose and a Flexilla leader with a swivel. My opinion, Very nice flexible, cold resistant air line perfect for DIY/home-based business. Amazon purchase.
Thanks brother, appreciate it. I have one of those flexzilla air lines had no idea it was cold resistant.
@@GarageNoise what they claim. Some kind of composite material. They have a promo burying it in the snow w other hoses. I guess it stays 'flexxy"
My garage gets plenty cold when i'm not in it, so seemed like a good choice.
Great lesson !
Thanks brother! Appreciate all the support!
have you tried using a can of compressed air to blast the surface to remove dust particles?
Never tried a can. Just the air gun
Chris when you going to do a video 📹 mate on the PPS CUP SYSTEM
This is awesome... exactly what gun I need for my little job... thanks
Great video. You make it look easy. Question, what gun do you use for primer gun. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I use the 3m performance or the 3m accuspray with a 1.4 or 1.6 tip. Mainly because it's simple to clean. Appreciate the comment and support!
Thank's brother appreciate it!
When I use a tack/wax cloth after a wipe it leaves wax residue that can make paint bubble. This is the first time I've seen this done last. No bubbles? Issues? I like to do a final wipe with wax and tar remover then shoot. Thanks
It can leave residue. I lightly wipe and don't have a problem.
I have the same gun I love it. Works better than my $600 GUN.
It's painful to say but I tend to agree with you. Appreciate the comment and support!
Turned out flawless
Thank's brother!
1.3 for all primer bases and clear Chris is that what your saying? Ps fab videos your content and real info are great that's what home garage guys want 🙋
1.3 for primer can be small . For primer I use a 1.4 or 1.6 with the 3m performance gun. For sealer ,base and clear 1.3 is fine.
That digital air pressure regulator that you are using. I used to get those at harbor freight and it seems they no longer carry those. I really liked them I only have one do you know where we can get more??
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been struggling with finding the right settings for this gun 👍
I like how you blend the color !
Thank's brother!
Really good finish and I use a gun very similar if not the same gun
Thank's brother! Appreciate the comment and support!
Amazing little gun.
👍
Hi, thx a lot for this vid! Just ordered the gun. Ive always loved polishing paints but now ive bought a motorcycle with some optical damage, its time to expand the fun. I live small (the netherlands) but i see you hardly use coverage in your garage. No ventilation as well am i right? Does the overspray spread that little?
I have a couple exhaust fans. Nothing special tho
Quick question. When you say small compressor, how many gallons and psi do you need? Plan on doing a mobile set up that I can run out of my ford expedition. Most of my clients have sealed garages. What size hose and compressor do you recommend?
Check out my tomorrow's video it's on exactly this topic.
I've ordered , I'm painting a GM Herron white 2pack no clear
Awesome!
What is "3 turns" really equate to? 3 full 360 degree turns of the dial?
Yes
I just ordered the AEROPRO R500..I hope that’s the same gun your referring too. I guess it’s a newer version???
Yes it is same gun updated look.
Another great video! What size tip did you use for each process (sealer, base coat, and clear)?
1.3 for all
16:52
Is that alcohol denatured or just regular rubbing alcohol?
Isopropyl alcohol
@@GarageNoise cool, thanks!
That turned out good sir!
Thank you!
Hi Chris. I have another question. At one video you mentioned 24psi when spraying a base. At this particular 20 for sealer and 20 for base. As I understood from all your videos 20-24 for primer sealer and base and 28-30 for clear. Please correct me if i am wrong
Also. What tips do you use when spraying primer filler, sealer, base and clear . Assuming 1.3 for sealer/base/clear. I bought a kit with 1.3,1.7 and 2.0 tips.
You got everything right. I would probably use the 1.7 tip for high build primer . It may be a little big but should be alright.
Would you recommend this R500 or the upgraded A610 gun for woood working materials like lacquer, poly, stains etc.
They are internally the same gun but I'd get the kit with multiple needle sets.
