    I did 40+ years in the collision repair/refinishing business. I retired from teaching it at a public technical school. My food for thought: good technique Steven, if you want a long healthy life, get a fresh air system. Especially when illegally spraying with little or no ventilation, no arrestor, and venting illegally into the atmosphere. It's nice to see the use of a self etching primer, a step many skip. One other thing, I would have used Nason clear over the Nason basecoat. When you mix product lines it usually ends with paint failure later on, as I've seen on many occasions. Nason clear is very reasonably priced.

      Valid point. I know the videos are aimed at the enthusiast crowd and not the pros, but you are doing a disservice showing a guy in a cloud of isocyanates with just a half face respirator and a chemical (?) cartridge. Some of the problems from isocyanates are immediate...and some hit you years later. Want to be around for your kids and grandkids? Get a fresh air system as mentioned. Wet edges...

    This is a good video, very satisfying to see that paint going on! One tip to newby car painters: the PSI specified for the paint is as measured AT THE GUN, not at the compressor! In other words you have to compensate for the length of the hose you are using, (because the pressure drops more the longer the hose is)..and add pressure based on that. Like if they say "30 PSI" you might need to have a reading of 40 at the compressor to spray at the specified pressure.. You need a chart to tell how much to compensate.

    • @iSleepDoc
      @iSleepDoc 2 года назад +3

      Great tip.. thanks 🙏

    • @12x2richter
      @12x2richter Год назад +1

      Another reason to regulate the pressure at the gun, not at the compressor, there's a lot more volume at 90 psi than at 30psi. Even if you compensate way back at the compressor side to get 30 psi at the gun, if something happens that pressure could dip below 30psi in places, especially if you're not using a 60 gallon professional system like this and trying to make a 20 or 30 gallon oil-free 1.5 hp compressor work. If you've got 60 or 90 psi up to the gun and regulate the pressure THERE, then you should never have problems with low pressure at the gun tip.

    Used to paint plugs and molds for large yachts You are 100% correct Steve knows what he's doing - Only modification I would have made is I found it easier to control the hose by putting it over my shoulder then holding it by my side. Also love the fact you pointed out the footwork - it's as important as the flick for an even coat.

I attended from 1988 to 1993 when a friend from Lincoln invited us up to the inaugural Nebraska Star Party in 1994. One of our now departed club members is in this film - the guy in the green T-shirt talking to another fellow in a minivan. In the six years I attended, I saw blistering heat, days upon days of clouds and thunderstorms, and, of course, some of the best nighttime skies I had ever seen! Long live the Texas Star Party!

    Love your tip about spraying scared/overthinking it. Two of the best paint jobs I ever laid down were areas where I was like "I just need to get some paint on there, it doesn't need to be good." One was the engine bay of my wife's car, the old paint was just not great, and I had the engine out, so I was like "I'm just going to throw down some base coat and clear, hardly anyone will see it." It ended up going on so nice there was zero orange peel and no finishing needed, because I just sprayed like I didn't care. It ended up winning a $1000 prize for best engine bay at a car show, with just a Scotchbrite prep and some extra bc/cc I had lying around.
