I really appreciate this video because you showed how you recovered from what seemed like a catastrophe.
It made for a great video! While it was happening I for sure thought we would have to sand it back down. Thanks for watching
I like how yall showed the problems with the rain. Cause that's what a lot of us diy'ers will run into using one of these.
I already saw a review of one of these a few years ago. In that case it happens that the compressor and blowers were too much for the circuit breaker and the cabin fell on the new paint in a painfully slow way. So that's something to keep in mind as well.
Running the compressor and blowers off of different circuits would solve that.
Yes, same thing happened to me. Booth collapsed when circuits blew. Blowers on different circuits for sure.
And if it's a windy day... could blow away or blow the fan off the tent😅😅😅 dotn ask me how I know
I had a mobile paint repair business in Florida and I counted on it raining at least once everyday day in the summer. Great job overcoming obstacles !
When did you move out of the state?
@@PaintSociety 2006 lived in Cape Coral. I'm actually visiting in November. Hopefully it's a little cooler than Oklahoma.
Humidity is killer down here. How long did you live in Florida
@@PaintSociety 8 years, I loved it!
Lived on both coasts. You can almost set your watch for when the afternoon thunderstorms would hit N. Ft. Myers.
Glad you gave it a good review for what it is and its intended purpose. Too many people on here compare them to $20-30k downdraft booths! Biggest problem besides heat gain is trying to fold it small enough to go bag in the storage bag they provide!
Hi Brian and thanks for the video. I have been using one of these for the past year and it is so much better than just spraying in the shed. The main issue with these as you mentioned is if you lose power, I have mine in the shed and use the D hooks to hold it up but even these don't do a good enough job as it sags in the middle, just something for everybody to keep in mind, apart from this I'm very happy with the results I have been getting from mine, Cheers.
That paint booth seems a perfect answer to a once-only paint job at home. (I guess a few companies will include them in their rental selection, just like bouncy castles for kids parties etc etc. Nice work Brian! 👍
well for the price you better use it more than once. Might be viable to buy one and rent it out.
@@Zenkai76 they’ve also gone up in price recently (due to inflation)…
@@Zenkai76 or just rent one to do the job you want then return it.
I don't think you'd be losing much by using a 10'x30' wedding tent - those can be had for 100 bucks or so, and as a one-time-use item, should be ideal.
@@MrSaturn7085
Those don't keep bugs\dust\debris away from the wet paint.
This is why I watch you. I can overcome anything with your teaching
Been considering one of these booths for a while. And this proves they work but have limitations. You did an amazing job Brian recovering from that water issue. I was certain it was needing sanded before adding more coats and again learned otherwise. Great content Sir!
I bought one this spring for painting in and outside my shop. I've used it so far to paint four vintage trailers, stain and varathane cabinetry and panels. I'm pleased with the unit. Had an issue with a zipper and the manufacturer was right on it and help me resolve and fix it.
I bought one of these booths and I set it up in my shop building. Ive painted so far about 4 cars in it and it actually does a decent job for the price
I was thinking it would work better if set up inside a building. My primary concern was the sun and getting too hot inside. Then there's the rain.
I tell people If your not going to upgrade these booths with proper filters, 2-3 hp vent blowers, and a elephant trunk suction fan system , don't even buy one. They don't work amazing out of the box and way to much over spray hangs around the booth for way to long. Seriously amazing job fixing that clear coat mid job you did amazing I'm impressed
"never a dull moment but it adds to the experience of the job" ... words to live by.
Excellent job, thanks for sharing.
Been planning on doing this for my truck for quite some time now, this was the video I've been waiting for! Thanks for the excellent content as always
Painted a car with one of these last year. The one we used came with three fans. We used two and held one as a spare. Heard rumor that these fans can shut down if run for long periods of time. It didn’t happen with us, but just something to be aware of. We also got rained on but nothing got inside. Overall very happy with the booth.
This was great! Used to watching and learning from you in the ideal environment then going out to to my crappy garage and putting it into practice! Watching you work in a less than perfect environment and recover from that disaster was extremely educational! Glad you shared
That's what we love to see. Definitely a realistic experience of what would've happened to anyone using the inflatable. Nice video.
Awesome job, and I love the old oil lamp hanging in the garage at the end. My parents had one hanging up in the living room when I was little and I used to love to sit and watch oil go down the poles, lol. The Good ole 80s...
I just bought a booth just like the one in this video I tried to use it when it was to hot in July and the metal got 140 degrees so I went back in the garage , I think it will be a good thing in the fall and spring love the video
considering the thought of cleaning the garage to the point its safe to paint this makes a lot of sense for a "clean room"
I got to say this is my favorite video of yours so far! I've been watching your videos for about 2 1/2 years. And I bought a paint booth about 2 years ago Anticipating doing a few personal projects not been able to use it yet but this this is real world diy circumstances and environment with things out your control or at least what always happens to me 🙄. I'VE BEEN WAITING ON THIS VIDEO! Also I was thinking about having my generator next to the booth and air compressor. In case of a loss of power in middle of painting 😅
Thanks!! You bought an inflatable as well?
Yes 33x16x11 bought It after watching my neighbor bust his butt all Saturday painting my 26 in rims in my garage. Just to have my other neighbor to start mowing when he was doing his final coat of clear.
@dietrichleftwich8549 nice neighbor
Great video. I have a few of these. From my experience, do not buy the type that has the mix room. the new improved models have a tube that goes across the ceiling and supplies the filtered air. if you have one do not open the mix room door because all the dirty air goes in the booth. with the new type, the whole length is usable paint space. Also, cut a deal with the seller and only get 1 blower or none. Buy a real blower from the bounce house industry then you will have a good circulation of air and will not need the elephant trunk which has a bigger set up deal and storage and electric needs. My 2 cents. they have a place for the do it yourselfer and get really great results. no bugs or dirt.
I'm tired of painting it and it's ruined. Orange peel is a killer☹️
Which one do you recommend? Is there a brand you go to?
😱! Awesome job and amazing it didn't ruin that beautiful ocean you sprayed. Please keep the videos coming because they have certainly improved my confidence.
for the price of the "blow up" space, you can buy or build a metal enclosure. Granted it's a more permanent building but far more worth it. I guess it has its place for the mobile guys. Only issue I can predict is over time, the overspray will cake on the plastic hardening it, possibly cracking and puncturing it. At best it will flake off and of course fall on your paint job. I cannot fathom why anyone would pay 150K for a "professional" paint booth. ALLLLL of that being said. I am NOT a professional painter. But i did stay the night in a Holiday inn express.
Also, I am rather shocked that they could not even make the top waterproof. That just seems cheap.
I believe the booth has to be breathable To be able to collapse
When I was looking at getting one this size a couple years ago, it was just over $1,000. That’s a lot cheaper than I could buy a metal enclosure of that size, plus I would have needed a foundation. In my case, I have room for the enclosure, but not enough that I want to permanently loose it to a building that I would only need occasionally.
@@robsdeviceunknown it would just pool up and collapse if it was waterproof.
It's for people who want to throw it on the yard for a day and paint, those who don't have space for another structure. It also eliminates need for any permits. Most cities would view a metal one as a carport at the very least.
I painted my first car in my garage after getting the confidence with your videos, now every time I watch your videos I get the itch to lay some paint ! I’ll probably go home and reclear my headlights or something 😂
Yo, The end of the Video Cordless Drill Hoist Though!! Brilliant!!
Cool. Been wanting one of these for a while as I have 3 cars to paint. Now I'm sold.
Thank you for the truth about everything. The odd fail here and there is the win win for us in real world. I have been wondering for some time about an inflatable booth. Looking forward to the next installment. 👍👍
I have one it it works well. Need to add a fan to pull fumes out when spraying clear.
I've been debating buying one of these for a few months. I built a plastic booth a few weeks ago. My paint was bug free but had so much dirt in it. I may pull the trigger for the next job.
I have to tell you I've done a lot of things in my life paying cars is not one of them after losing business and doing other things at 71 I just painted or corrected the paint where the clear cut was coming off on a car for the 1st time in my life and the only reason that I tried that was due to your videos that I watched I will do better on the next 1 I learned a lot and I think I did a pretty good job on it and I'm pretty critical of myself but I listen to a painter and skip 1 step which I regretted however it still looks nice it's a better looking car and I thank you for your videos and I'm a fan and I'll continue to watch and learn
This will work perfect for us . We just built a 80 by 54 shop and to set this up in the shop to paint skidsteers and mini excavators will be perfect
That place you’re doing all that looks like paradise 👌
I don’t know if you remember from my IG story but I painted my rear bumper in my backyard with just a tent. I’ve been thinking of buying one of these portable paint booths. Thank you for teaching the DIY community!
Hi, greetings from UK 😊
Thanks for sending this to me bro! This is definitely the route I want to go for a good job in the new shop!
Wouldn't be bad used inside where I live. Currently I live in an area with unpredictanle weather and wouldn't have room to store one. Fitzee's fabrication has a great video on how to make your own.
The joys of working outside, rain ruining your job, then the sun comes out!! 😆
Basically !!
A bounce house for painters! But better hope the power doesn't go out before it dries...
What a REAL time Video.. Stuff happens to most of us, the stray bug, or water.. Grats its a Save!
This was an incredible video! So much information as well as damage control. Thanks for the insight that not all goes as planned but recovery is possible. Fantastic real life video!
Just fyi with these booths, I’m a mobile painter and have been using these booths for about 10 years. I have the Amazon type like in this vid and I also have the much more expensive type made with fire retardant materials epa, OSHA approved etc. They really are very useful especially in my line of work. I work for some bigger dealerships in my area of north Florida. I’ve worked for these same dealers for many years. With all that said I ran into a big issue this past week with a local fire inspector. He told me that he’d never seen these types of booths before and wasn’t aware of anything like it. Long story short he shut us down because he believes that all booths should have some type of fire suppression. I tried to explain to him that these booths do not require fire suppression because there’s nothing electrical inside these booths at all. I did explain that our expensive one was made of fire retardant materials so that it will not burn. That didn’t seem to matter to him and he shut us down anyway. I’m telling you this in case anyone might be interested in using one of these in their mobile business particularly at a dealership. I’m working on getting this straightened out with the fire chief and hopefully with positive results.
im sure the neighbors love this guy that and this is a backyard mechanic job at best
I've never tried the fc710 clear but I use fc720 daily. Best clear coat for the money imo.
I've been on the fence in buying one and your wonderful video now convinced me to make the purchase. Thank you for posting
I believe sewinfla has a new one out that is air tight like my mobile solutions portable booth and remains inflated without the blowers running. Definitely a good idea to have the blowers running on sewerage 20amp circuits to avoid catastrophe!
very good lesson, because its an issue maybe a handful of people will see but nice to know how to combat water on clear.
Great video. Would like to see when you get that elephant's trunk in. Should make a huge difference.
Appreciate what you do bro real videos for every day people you truly go above and beyond 🙌🏽💯
hey Brian, just bought myself one of these and gunno paint my jag on sunday in it, got it for a song. fingers crossed, i won't over think it, it's just paint.
Good luck!!!
You are an expert and could probably paint in any condition
Best paint videos on youtube! Thanis guys.
This was a really good video Brian, i feel like its a scenario that we can all relate to. The rain situation made it even better content. Keep up the good work. Will you be doing anymore spray gun reviews?
Yes what gun?
Glad you reviewed this. Always wondered how they worked.
Love that acme clear
Just purchased one today!
This video was perfect timing. About to set up one of these at a buddy's shop in a couple weeks. This will take a lot of guess work out of the process. Thanks Brian!
When I lived in Florida ('82-'91) we used to say "If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes"
Definitely a great job. Nothing in life is ever perfect. But its how we improvise. I'll definitely be putting a wood frame on the inside so if power is lost the tent won't come down on the paint and I'll use slide in brackets for easy removal. Tired of trying to find reasonably priced painters so I'll be buying new and improved guns and getter done.
Carcoon is the best inflatable spray booth it actually stays inflated without the blower constantly going.
Well now you know how it is to paint in MN outside lol. Atleast you had a mobile paint booth. Gonna look into getting one.
Used one of these a couple of years ago when doing some plasti dip (no offense, it wasn't my vehicle) and it really did work well.
Two things. The rain kept the dust down. Second the part about static electricity is a myth. You painted this in a booth that should have been loaded with static electricity; Yet look how good this came out! A job WELL DONE Brian!
Phillip Hall
Nice to see what can happen trying to paint on a budget I've been there great video Thanks.
Can’t wait to see the boat painting! Should be super interesting!
Haha! Staring Kareef
The weather in Florida can look sunny one minute and then an earth-ending downpour the next! Either way the booth is a cool option to have.
Not too bad boys!!! What a handy piece of kit!!!!!
Oddball question, as a detailer having to apply polish and other products with a high speed buffer I run across several cars that the clear coat is very thin maybe from previous polishing or whatever. Have you ever had a vehicle in just for additional clear coat protection. It's a shame how much these companies have cut costs on such things but sure raise the price on everything else. Great videos, thank you.
Great video as usual Brian.
I have as of now 2 questions/concerns ...
1st. How do you think the booth would do over spray wise doing a full car ? Using another gun that uses more psi 25-32 for example?
2nd. What do you think it would be best to do after painting to clean the booth to eliminate over spray sticking to it?
You could possibly use those top tie downs to clip a clear plastic or white tarp over the top so it blocks water but not light.
Maybe you could make a booth with big tarps on a metal frame? It seems the inflatable frame is if you have nothings to hang the walls from? The blower for circulating the air is very good idea from a jump house for kids.. Was there a lot of overspray on the walls and floor of the paint booth jump house? What did the aftermath look like? Is there a way to clean if off if it lands on the plastic panels?.. especially the clear windows? What filtration is the side filters?
Sorry so many questions and concerns..
mrstan
Excellent, I actually got a pop up garage, similar size to that but has steel tubing for internal frame, and I've been purchasing LED work lights to light up this garage/booth, once I get a couple air extraction fans I'll be right to go, I'm based in Australia 🇦🇺 so I've just bought a gas turbo heater aswell
I don’t recommend to paint outdoors for lots of reasons as a diy painter. Basically I do motorcycle paint jobs with professional results. The most ideal conditions I found painting in my garage is beginning with clean garage floors and surroundings on a day with very light rain and no wind. Draining the air tank of water and always using a new air line filter. Which results in a very clean paint job overall.
In my case, I think I’m going to try building my own small paint booth using PVC for the frame and sheeting it in with medium gage plastic and adding a good exhaust/ventilation system.
I wouldn’t mind changing the plastic sheeting for each paint job to keep things clean and dust free as possible.
check out Fitzies Fabrication youtube channel. he made one using white tarps to reflect light and it's easy to set up.
I have one of these and they work great.
Thanks I wanted to get one of these and now the prices are gonna go threw the roof lol but definetly a awesome video everything showed in this video was perfect and seeing how that booth works is awesome
I love that most the cars you paint are honda or acura 👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you like them!
I'm in Zephyrhills fl and I am now going to get into paint because of your videos. Your content is showing me a lot . Thanks I appreciate all you're detailed videos. 💯👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Awesome Brian! I've been waiting for this review. Thanks.
Damn bro. You spray glass at any condition. Love your work. And thanks for that awatta gun advice. It really worked out...
I wonder how this compares to doing a harbor freight "portable garage" to be the paint booth. It is significantly cheaper.
I'd just like to know where to purchase one, and by the way. What is the total cost$$$???
@@brentpaulus4195 they put a link to it in the video description... looks like it's about $1500
I use an carport paint booth that way you don't have the cost of running pumps the whole time it will never deflate on an prodject if you blow an breaker in the middle of project this thing will come down on your project!! I didn't want to chance it so bought carport and blowers and everything else separate and built an portable filter system that can be used in any paintbooth! All you have to do is to eliminate dust and such is tape all seems with duct tape then lay big tarp down that you pull in on make booth airtight and cross draft booth then spray inside of booth down with water on walls and floor to eliminate more dust and the water will also collect overspray as it hits those surfaces and prevent overspray settling into prodject! There's alot of ways of getting good j9bs from cheap booths !!
Same booth I have and used several times. Works well but in summer time, it gets extremely hot inside.
If I didn't know any better I would say that was me in the booth when the water started leaking in 😂😂
Thanks for taking the time to make this great video and give us some real world feedback.
I’m glad Jeremy was still recording. In my opinion that’s what made this job more down to earth
@@PaintSociety I agree 100%👍🏾
I considered buying one a while ago. I'm not a body fender guy but I think one of those has a place when you need a place to paint and you don't have the space for a permanent structure. The prices jumped up significantly. I'll wait til they drop a bit.
There is a trick to water proof those for outside. The product is called neverwet.
I started out in 05 at a boat factory used valspar gelcoat to refinish after fiberglass repairs... I tell ya that gelcoat is some thick stuff.... slot different than automotive paint. But I learnt about fiberglass repairs and it was an experience... now guys doin that job at same plant make $25 n hr.... back then I was at $9..... lol times have changed
Paint job looks amazing.
The tiedowns are most likely to anchor for wind. Even a light wind will probably launch it.
👍, real world painting good job that mate, and lots of skill , staying calm, and dealing with it 👏
Way to recover, true professional.
Got scared for a second
Omggg been waiting for this video for ages!!
Great video! Been hoping for a review from you on these for a while
2 questions for you, Brian. Can you reverse the inflation pump so it vacuums the air out when you're done? And did you notice your overspray sticking to the inside of the booth?
such a helpful video thank you so much Brian excellent video
Line a garage in plastic, wet the floor and a small vent does the trick too. Wet carpet doesn't dry so fast FYI
Great job 👏. I wait for more beautiful paintings
If a person lives in a place with intense sun, how many coats of clear coat should be applied to it doesn't start to flake off?
So funny I'm trying to buy 1 and bam a video comes out.
Love your videos. Would you consider doing a slow step-by-step guide to masking/prep. Also a slow step-by-step gun cleaning and a slow step-by-step 2K mixing/explanations videos and the different 2K types and/or brands for all of us new DIYers. Please and Thank U🙏
Great videos as usual!!! Question: when does your timer start between coats; when you start the panel or when you complete the panel. Thanks
When you complete the panel give it the recommended flash off time before next coat.
Very nice job. Excellent recovery!!
Bro sorry I subbed so late in the game!
I love your content and this episode really showed cool heads and quality work. I wish half of your effort was put into an insurance repair my Moroccan Red Pearl UA7 had a few years back . 🤙🏼
Loved this video with real world stuff, was thinking that if we lay some clear construction plastic on the top and let it hang over the sides a bit , that would shed water incase of rain,
