This has been the most beneficial video on painting a car at home. Thank you for being so informative and helpful. I think this will bring me great results as I intend to do most of my personal vehicles in black which detects every little bump and slope. My only fear is water mixing with the paint. I even have filters installed to pull the water, yet no matter what I try, it always seems to drip water at some point and I fear it will land on my perfect black paint. New compressor and new filters, yet always get that water drip.

Last part of this video with him saying don’t chase perfection really helped me feel better about my spray job. I just sprayed my car and I have some runs and mistakes but it all can be buffed out. For a garage job I would have to say I did pretty good. I haven’t painted for almost 16 years and to do a whole car after that long of a time I would have to say I did a damn good job. Thank you for making me feel better about how I painted my car!
Just a tip, it's easier to keep the dirt out of one coat than 3 or 4.save the denibbing for the last coat than add another, tack off after flash and clear it
I’ve always wanted to learn how to paint. Now, I only need to learn how to mix. Back in the day my brother in law painted his car with a roller. It’s all he could afford. I bought everything I need to paint. The first thing I primed but not painted is my wife’s 1963 2 door Falcon. She loved the look so much she has me leave it.
This is like the the 7th video I've watched. Honestly I was taught primer, block sand, then wet sand, then clean, then 3 coats of base and then 3 coats of clear. They really emphasize the getting the impurities out before painting. For the record im not a painter, just learned a bit in school.
The only thing I can say (cause this just happened to me) adjust your air before you hook it up to your moisture filter at your gun. Mine blew up on me. Luckily I wasnt painting anything important yet. Maybe this is common knowledge for more experienced painters. 150psi blew my filter up like a bomb. Haha
60% prep and 40% talent. Prep everything perfectly, clean and tack the shit out of the car beforehand and make sure you wet the paint booth with a water hose beforehand. It will keep dust, dirt and other particles from kicking up in the air and getting in the wet paint. And lay 3 coats of clear, that way you can wet sand out any imperfections since you are inexperienced. Be sure to use the correct temp reducer/activator. That can absolutely destroy a paint job if not correctly chosen for the ambient temp.
turn back while you still can if you plan to use the car in the next 6 months. I'm 9 months into my job and have over 300 hours into it, it's being finished up and taped for base/clear this week.
perfect video for what us DIYers was looking for at home and not in a professional setting! Thanks and great work as usual! what kind of regulator and filter is on that gun?
I have a question, is there a difference when painting a car with all the parts seperated and the body by itself and have the car fully in tacked and having parts masked off
Sometimes I see painters walk the length of the vehicle while others do it panel by panel. Is it a matter of personal preference or how the color/pearl lays down? Great video, Brian.
David P yes and no, to color sides first allows over spray on flat panels, making it harder to wet up said panels. Ok over spray on side panels, not so critical. Just for ships and giggles, I start bottom left fender come across hood rt fender ft. Bumper, rt. Side top, stop on sail p., move other side top door ouster, across deck, rear bumper, qur. Door? Less movement less dirt, flat panels are wet, no dry, no streaks, check your edges make sure they get hit. 45 yr. owner operator... nice comment peace and love.
Mostly preferance, but i never walked a car since i feel you cant get that robotic movement if not staying still (less gun control). Only see use for walking the car for a coarse silver dropcoat and nothing else. But again that is only my opinion, there is no right or wrong as long as the job comes out sweet
@Danny Murray hey Danny! Would you recommend sanding a car to the metal for a fresh paint job? Or just primer over current paint? Also, what is the order you explained to paint the panels to reduce overspray? Was hard for me to follow. You sound very knowledgeable!
I really enjoyed the video, I'm a Panelbeater from South Africa. I'm doing my practical, so I'm still a student. My workplace is also teaching me how to do some spray painting work and so on. Anyway, what I see at work, most of the time when they put on primer, base and clear or Primer and 2k. They always have to flat/scuff the Primer/paint or 2k. For example. Primer gets sprayed, then when it's dry. It gets a P600 water/wet scuff, maybe because of contaminants or so. When cleaned properly, it gets a base coat (2-3 coats), after that the base coat, gets a water/wet p1500 scuff (sometimes it doesn't). Then cleaned again, then it gets a clear coat (2-3 coats I think), when it's dry the clear coat will be scuffed with water/wet p2000 then it gets a polish and wax. After that the car is finished. So, what I learned from this video and the rest is. If you don't clean your surface properly/hold your spray gun too far/don't set the gun's pressure right and more. You have to put in extra work to get the job done properly. I still have 1y and 6 months to go, so thank you for your content😁. I'm still very young and have lots of goals. I'll definitely enjoy doing panel beating and spray painting as a hobby or side job. I'm going into mechanical work after this (dream job). Definitely petrol/diesel mechanic or both. Then mechanical engineering or the other way around. Engineering first then petrol or diesel😄. I have very good grades, so I'll make it 😁. Keep up with your great content 😁✌🏼

(but interested in painting a bumper, or spoiler, etc.) This video must people for people who already know a little bit, as you lost me around 2:00 with the primer, paint, sealer, hardner? All those various elements were mixed into the primer? Please point me in a direction that explains more about the 4:1:1 ratio. Technical data sheets? Are these from the paint manufacturers, or from the auto makers, or from? I can tell this is really really good info, but I can tell that I don't understand much about these formulas, etc. Thank you so much.

@@Xxcactus108xX how can it take so long...? The guys in the video make it look like the painting can be done in like an afternoon
perfect video for what us DIYers was looking for at home and not in a professional setting! Thanks and great work as usual! what kind of regulator and filter is on that gun?
🦗
Awesome paint job 👍💪.
Lol, you still see some imperfections, wheras for me, this result is the definition itself of perfection 😁
Perfectly imperfect
one of the best paint videos I have ever seen from technical to application and more!!!! awesome video!!!!
Progress not perfection great video everyone, I haven't painted in a while and its always great to get extra tips on making the paint job work.
Tip: Painting without booth try weting floor to keep dirt n debris from flying up. Thats something my uncle showed me when painting in his garage.
I also see this often done with/in a booth!
Lol I just want to paint anything I can find after watching that!! Thank you
Love watching the video from the land down under, going to be painting my whole car in next couple months and these videos are deff helping alot!
Damn this thang came out looking good thanks on the tips and tricks definitely learned some new things!!!
Sí 👌 feliz año nuevo 😊
I have a question, is there a difference when painting a car with all the parts seperated and the body by itself and have the car fully in tacked and having parts masked off
Yes....because on one job the car is in parts and on the other job it's not....lmao
Got a 2007 pt cruiser I want to bring back to life. This video is gonna be a big help. Thanks guys.
I like the breakdown of the ratio cups. Never dabbled in paint so this was awsome to know.
Damn this thang came out looking good thanks on the tips and tricks definitely learned some new things!!!
Would love to see the "imperfections" and touch ups done. I'll have far more defects and touch ups than you!
Im painting my Miata this month also, thanks Brian 👌
How did it go? How much of this product did it take, as i am painting a Miata too
@@jimmcewen3727 my best guess would be about 2/3-3/4 of a gallon.
I plan to watch a couple videos every single day! until I'm proficient, efficient and competent! thanks guys!
I always wanted to paint cars and do auto body since younger cars has forever been my main love ❤️ I start school for spring I can’t wait!
Walk it out for metallics.
Mostly preferance, but i never walked a car since i feel you cant get that robotic movement if not staying still (less gun control). Only see use for walking the car for a coarse silver dropcoat and nothing else. But again that is only my opinion, there is no right or wrong as long as the job comes out sweet
Walk it out for Pearl's aswel ? Or just metalics
@Danny Murray hey Danny! Would you recommend sanding a car to the metal for a fresh paint job? Or just primer over current paint? Also, what is the order you explained to paint the panels to reduce overspray? Was hard for me to follow. You sound very knowledgeable!
I love you man, I would love have you for a instructor !
When you do a good job spraying the base, that makes you.... Ace of Base.
ight imma head out. lol
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Don't forget to stop off at eddie bauer on your way out.
Only if "Ace of Base" was actually cool... Lol
Painting is way more complicated than I imagined. You guys are beasts. I need the painting for dummies video.
My NRA instructor told me to always clean my gun after use.
Just get a Glock and clean it every couple thousand rounds.
You are my good teacher thanks you
Democrats are coming for you
This guy looks like the actor from now you see me.
Edit: Mark Ruffalo is the actors name
I'm certain this dude isn't a douche bag like Ruffalo
Don’t make him angry
@@Itsfarko this one won’t turn green though but he will leave you a nice green paint job instead of the blue one you asked for 😂

Brian Thanks! I am repainting my Crown Victoria. Even if I do not do the entire job my self, I will get a better over all job after getting a good shove up the learning curve from Paint Society. Thanks, David
Good luck David!
Guys, I stumbled upon this video, not knowing really anything about painting cars.
I don't even have a car nor will I most likely ever really paint one myself but I still like this video lol You can never know too much.
You are the Man! Best Paint Videos on RUclips!
That blue is a real head turner! Great video!

I applied to a Auto Body Techniques course at Fanshawe college in london, Ontario😁 I got accepted! I’m super excited to start my career in this industry
