    Penin is true genius....his playing & technique are flawless...he makes it look so easy...his effortless playing is sheer joy & pleasure to watch...a truly great artist! That being said...it is incredible to imagine this piece alone, one of many spontaneous improvisations of the brilliant Charles Tournemire, to then be amazingly transcribed from a recording by the equally brilliant Maurice Durufle! WOW!! The magnificent legacy of French organists & organs!!!

    Superb in every way! Magnificent musicianship & camera-work!! A profoundly inspired improvisation on the Sequence chant & texts e.g. "Christians! to the Paschal Victim offer your thankful praises." and "Death and life have contended in that conflict stupendous: the Prince of life, who died, deathless reigneth." I think the music also reflects Tournemire's highly emotional nature and volatile temperament (as described by one/many of his pupils!) Deo gratias; Christ has risen; Alleluia!

    I love this and the exitement this music generates! Such a culmination of inspiration: The holy Easter Gospel: surrection, victory of the paschal lamb, which ignited Tournemire to improvise! Then, luckily, it was recorded and Duruflé, yet another incredibly talented organist and composer, meticulously accurate wrote Tournemire's music down, lovingly retaining every detail in Tournemire's playing.
    Then, faithfully practised, and studied, this music rises again to fill the very same beatiful church and to reach so many more hearts and souls, in a new century Tournemire couldn't have dreamed of. I'm listening this at Easter 2021 :-) Thanks Oliver for this flaming and blazing performance!
    The organ's sound and tuning is almost too perfect: it might be a little more rough :-)

    This maybe a stupid question but still here goes. The console that Cesar Franck played still exists. Why can it not be replaced and the organ undergo a pipe by pipe restoration to take it back as near as possible to the instrument Franck knew and loved. Make the organists go cold turkey from their electric servo systems and pestilential "gagets". Why is everyone obsessed by these bland "Euro organs"?? They all sound the same. They are now the "norm" in the UK.

    • @EduardQualls
      @EduardQualls 4 года назад +3

      The Franck console is in the Museum Vleeshuis, in Belgium and, per its ownership, will not be returned to Ste. Clothilde. This organ was not played solely by Franck, but by Tournemire and Langlais, so he does not have sole claim to its sound, nor should that be assumed. There have been 4 incarnations of this organ, all of which have maintained the pipes and core design of Cavaillé-Coll. See the church's website for full details: www.orgue-clotilde-paris.info/uk/le-grand-orgue/ As for your ideas on its reconstruction, please see _The Diapason_ of July 25, 2006: "Notes on the Organ in the Basilica of Sainte-Clotilde, Paris" [www.thediapason.com/notes-organ-basilica-sainte-clotilde-paris]. The degradation of its condition, committed in the early 1960's were undone, as much as possible, by restoration done in the first decade of the 2000's. BTW, the Franck console's keyspans (manual and pedal) were simply too narrow.

    • @wilhakkaart5116
      @wilhakkaart5116 4 года назад +1

      I fully agree, the instrument in its present state is ruined by organbuilders, with no respect for the past. Remove all the gadgets and go back to the masterpiece Cavaille-Coll constructed here. Yes it has its limitations at that day, But hey spoiled organists nowadays with electronic gadgets and other stuff, deal with its legacy en respect its history. I hate the tendencies in organbuilding nowadays, so mister Penin, if you have the balls, undo this masterpiece of Cavaille Coll of all its upgrades and gadgets and start an campaign againts all odds to restaure this intrument to its former glory. Take an example of Daniel Roth who want to put the organ of St.Sulpice to the Unesco world heritage list. He understand the legacy of Cavaille-Coll. You are not even worthy to maintain this instrument, or even call yourself the succesor of Cesar Franck, Charles Tournemire or Jean Langlais.

      BECAUSE "MODERNITY" AND SOME MONEY ALWAYS PUT SOME SHIT IN THE REALM OF SOMETHING OR SOMEBODY .... IN THIS CASE NOT ONLY CESAR FRANCK BUT ALSO ARISTIDE CAVAILLÉ-COLL. AND THE FIRST GUILTY IN THIS POINT WAS TOURNEMIRE HIMSELF BUT BECAUSE HE WAS A GENIUS WE CAN DO NOTHING....
