As an amateur organist, privileged to travel to hear some of today's finest organists, I am inspired by their performances knowing the hours of practice & dedication it took to hone their innate talents. I often wonder what pressure they feel when performing the music of the great masters who went before them especially when performing in the same venue. I find this video to be a heartfelt tribute to Franck. I suspect Mr Penin walked many of these steps as a youth contemplating his path to filling the shoes of the many great organists of St Clotilde. Thanks so much for sharing. 💐🎹🎶

I've been waiting eagerly for this one and I was not disappointed. A powerful and moving performance which I know I will listen to many times. Les modulations complexes si chères à César Franck colorent avec subtilité cette musique loin des clichés sulpiciens qui foisonnaient en cette période du XIXème siècle. Magnifique interprétation de cette pièce grandiose, complexe mais d'une structure (symphonique) parfaite. La réussir nécessite à la fois une très grande musicalité et un cerveau capable de soigner et peser le détail dans l'ensemble. Ici tout y est. Pourquoi est-elle autant délaissée, pour sa durée peut-être car, sans coupures il faut l'interpréter dans son intégralité bien évidemment ! Mais quel dommage .... Nous avons publié, avec mon ami Christian Robert, une messe dite de "Ste Clotilde" dont la plupart des thèmes sont empruntés à la Grande Pièce Symphonique. Je crois savoir qu'il vous a proposé de la produire à Ste Clotilde . Qu'en est-il exactement ? je peux vous faire parvenir la partition par internet. La partie d'orgue respecte l'oeuvre initiale ainsi que les registrations. A votre entière disposition et bien respectueusement.

L'organiste fait-il l'objet d'un culte ?
Notre époque remplace le goût pour la pensée et pour la culture par l'idolâtrie, celle pour les musiciens
Quoi qu’il en soit il est très utile de voir l’organiste jouer (non seulement utile mais aussi agréable) ; cela permet notamment d’apprécier les doigtés qu’il choisit et donc de faire progresser les amateurs
Oliver Penin mérite bien qu'on lui rende hommage !
C'est pareil pour tout, hélas. Dans un monde sain, on verrait de vraies œuvres d'art, et le nom de l'artiste ne figurerait nulle part ; hic et nunc, on voit des laideurs abominables, et le nom de l'artiste est en gros partout. Cet orgueil est ridicule ; il est surtout intolérable.
En l'occurence, cette vidéo est en effet trop axée sur le musicien, et non pas sur l'œuvre elle-même.
La question à se poser : qui sert qui ? Qui est au service de qui ? L'artiste n'est que le serviteur de l'œuvre et des autres hommes (et non pas l'inverse).
@@patrickblondel982 Pour cela, laissons-le vivre, s'améliorer, créer une œuvre complète, et nous verrons. En attendant, l'organiste de Sainte-Clothilde est un simple serviteur de la liturgie et de la musique.

Insulting you would think we are too stupid to know he is not playing this piece with sneakers on. If he were really playing the whole piece with sneakers on, you would have shown much more of the notorious pedal passage at the end. What is the point of the sneakers? All organists know that it is impossible to really play with them. Even more absurd in light of this being Franck's church. This is a really weird video. But I enjoyed the tour of the master's locations.
I record the piece with sneakers but you have to know I did not play during the travel. It’s a movie not a concert.
