He lives locally and is very unpretentious. Not a shock that he turned up, but a lovely gesture. He changed my perspective on life when we met in 1983... he’s very evolved. ❤️
major mayhem -not sure if I understand that comment. But it’s not out of the question to expect people who have been world famous for decades to start getting above themselves and thinking certain things to be “beneath” them, no matter where they come from.
Bravo to the music director & the kids! Excellent work! Well done, Mr. Joel. Giving credit where credit is due. How outstanding that you attended but did not make it about you. As it should be, imo. You’re a class act.
And he didn't do it for publicity. Never tried to get on stage and make it about himself. He was just there to show he's still a regular NY guy and only there to show support for these little musicians. I bet thise kids will never forget this! 👏👏🎹🎹😎😎
I know every word to every Billy Joel song. Even the songs that were never released. Any way GOOD JOB KIDS, keep listening to Billy Joel. 🙂👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
OMG this is so cute, and cool! Thumbs up to the kids for putting so much hard work in that show, and to Billy for coming by! #idol #best #kids #surprise
I remember this, we did the beatles when i was in kindergarten and then billy joel in 1st grade. One of my friends had a solo and was terrible but it was fun.
My school had a Beatles tribute year when I was just 5 years old. You see, our school was the only school in the city that had every student actually playing an instrument. It was mandatory that we played instruments and took lessons with our fellow students three times a week. We had pianos, guitars, cellos, violas, violins, flutes, recorders, upright bass, and now even trumpet! Anyways, we always have a big year end concert at the Edmonton Winspear (Where the city orchestra always plays) and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were invited. Oof they never came but man they would've loved it. Luckily I got to see him when he came back to my city for a concert in September 2018.
That is so true🤣 I'm live in West Islip, and he used to go to a bar 2 mins away from my house, and every time me and my family pass by it while were driving, we look out the window🤣
Great story, not fake thank heavens, what a great thing from Billy who goes up in my estimation. And isn't it great to see young kids doing decent music, not the crap that calls itself 'music'. Great stuff! "that hasn't happened for the longest time"!
We are!🤣 I live in West Islip. Maybe I'll meet him someday! He's the reason I got into piano when I was 4! I begged my parents to get a piano so I could be just like him! He's inspired me my whole life! Love him!💖
How cool. What would've been a lot cooler is if Billy was invited on stage, and asked the principal to contact him whenever they wanted to honor a specific artist, that way the kids could be surprised again.
According to “The United States Copyright Law: A Guide for Music Educators,” “Music teachers can edit or simplify purchased, printed copies, provided that the fundamental character of the work is not distorted or the lyrics, if any, are not altered or lyrics added if none exist.” THEY CAN NOT CHANGE THE WORDS.
Shows the character of Billy Joel. A+. He didn't show up with an entourage or expecting all the attention. Just came to cheer on those kids.
That's cool; I love when celebs do this kind of thing.
Lies again? Harvard University Grab Car

Piano Man equals The Wild Rover as the best pub songs ever.

‘Roberta’ is one of those unknown songs that I love. Especially the resounding piano playing. I just love the guy.

Ah yes. To live on Long Island we are in constant search of a Billy Joel sighting. It's kind of like in search of bigfoot.
That is so true🤣 I'm live in West Islip, and he used to go to a bar 2 mins away from my house, and every time me and my family pass by it while were driving, we look out the window🤣
I am from Lindenhurst, I haven't seen Billy yet,
The kindergartners singing captain jack 😂
Great story, not fake thank heavens, what a great thing from Billy who goes up in my estimation. And isn't it great to see young kids doing decent music, not the crap that calls itself 'music'. Great stuff! "that hasn't happened for the longest time"!

Happy Birthday, Billy. May 9.

They shouldn’t censor the songs for them, let the kids sing what he sang.
brilliant idea. let me guess, you a rappa

Billy is good people ! Good thing they didn't invite OZZY ! He DAMN sure would have showed up !!! He loves that stuff.
When I was in first grade I did a NIB solo at the xmas concert. I don't think Ozzy was in america at that time so we didn't invite him.

Performing Copyrighted songs in a school play is illegal without permission. not to mention changing the words.
And yet Billy was SITTING RIGHT THERE in the audience and said nothing so STFU!
Why dont you sue the kids?
According to “The United States Copyright Law: A Guide for Music Educators,” “Music teachers can edit or simplify purchased, printed copies, provided that the fundamental character of the work is not distorted or the lyrics, if any, are not altered or lyrics added if none exist.” THEY CAN NOT CHANGE THE WORDS.
My dear Kevin you really need to get more, you miserable twat..!!!
Wrong. Recording copyrighted songs is illegal, but not performing them live. There are cover bands everywhere.
Piano Man is PG, besides for the parts about drinking.
hacksmith
He should have come in for the 5th and 6th graders. They've had more years of training. He made a presence and then ducked out.
ms rosen retiréd )=
Diego Henrriquez ik it was sad I was in my 2nd grade when she started and she retired when I was in 6th grade
The little kids talking ruined this interview
