- The principal of a Glen Cove school said she invited Billy Joel to a spring concert on a lark, never expecting the Piano Man to come. But he did. Joel showed up Wednesday at the Deasy Elementary School for a concert called, "The River of Dreams: A Billy Joel Tribute." CBS 2's Andrea Grymes reports.

My school had a Beatles tribute year when I was just 5 years old. You see, our school was the only school in the city that had every student actually playing an instrument. It was mandatory that we played instruments and took lessons with our fellow students three times a week. We had pianos, guitars, cellos, violas, violins, flutes, recorders, upright bass, and now even trumpet! Anyways, we always have a big year end concert at the Edmonton Winspear (Where the city orchestra always plays) and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were invited. Oof they never came but man they would've loved it. Luckily I got to see him when he came back to my city for a concert in September 2018.

When I was in first grade I did a NIB solo at the xmas concert. I don't think Ozzy was in america at that time so we didn't invite him.
How cool. What would've been a lot cooler is if Billy was invited on stage, and asked the principal to contact him whenever they wanted to honor a specific artist, that way the kids could be surprised again.
