My great grandfather made these bad boys. He usually made chairs, sofas, and armoires, but luckily the wonders of war turned his employer, a classy furniture manufacturer, into a manufacturer of classy aircraft! Huzzah! They probably fell apart quite a lot. He was a lazy man. My other great grandfather made the runways these landed on, so my family have a history of helping the country in wartime by being too scared to fight. Smashing.

I don't know HMS Hood's third turret was very famous for it's aerodynamic characteristics yes I believe up to seventy feet it was very famous after a little help from the Bismark.

the most funny fact about the mosquito: the first plane shot down by a jet was a mosquito and it was shot down by a me262 schwalbe. the german word schwalbe means swallow in english and swallows eat mosquitos so it was simply nature calling.

I have a special place in my heart for the Mozzy. My grandada was a Pathfinder that flew one of these. I managed to get to the museum in the mid 80s...saw the prototype and got to watch one of the restores flying. Loved it alot.
I once met Squire during an air battle Me 262 vs. P51 escorting some bombers. He totally fucked up in his 262 and called it "a new tactic". Two battle laters I faced him in his P51 and he shot me down. One of my best days in War Thunder :)

Squire since you mentioned Norway, in my home town we had several 'visits' of mossies hunting german convoys anchored up, about 5 years ago they found the engine of a mossie that was shot down by flak. Btw there is also a film out somwhere on youtube showing one of the strafing attacks carried out in the pårt.

I used to see the Mossie fly around my area (Hertfordshire) as a lad. It crashed, and I still think about it from time to time. Welwyn/Hatfield was pure aviation for decades. Now it's retail :(

418 Squadron RCAF was the highest scoring Canadian squadron in WW2 in both Air-Air and Air-Ground Kills. They used Mossies flying in at low level during Night raids on enemy airstrips.

RE the Wood construction, it was also an idea from someone who realised that there was loads of furniture makers & carpenters not being used for the war effort and there was lots of wood that could be used for something.
Max Hastings in his book, Bomber Command, points out that the Mosquito was more accurate, and had much better chance of survival & was much cheaper in regards to man power to fly it & resources to construct that instead of ploughing on with the heavy bomber raids into Germany they should have just built lots of mossies to do the same job better, more accurately & without the mass slaughter of aircrew that happened to the Lancaster crews.
