This is one of the most criminally underrated drummers ever to pick up sticks . . . period the end , Incredible technique and that is coming from a Massive Neil Peart fan
@@JohnnyMacalvee-cf7et Danny is on a much higher level than Peart or Moon was, not to take anything away from them too, but definitely not in the same league.
He does with one hand what some drummers can't do with two. Plus, the entire time, it looks as though he makes the sticks do all the work. His drumsticks are bouncing off the drumheads and rolling and doing all sorts of crazy stuff and he's just sitting almost still gently shaking his head to the beat. Crazy. Danny's an artist.
This is what you get when a rock drummer knows jazz music. It has nothing to do with the techniques etc its to do with the imagination of improvisation to come up with unique original phrases, grooves, drum parts & more! Danny perfectly displays here how he can move the music in any direction he desires. It give the music real purpose, drive & status that leaves audiences with lifetime memories!
Danny Seraphine one of the top 100 drummers of all time! My favorite part of listening to the band Chicago was you...Danny playing the drums! You are truly an amazing legendary artist!
Years ago I went to Eagles auditorium (Seattle) it cost 5 bucks to get in we loved Chicago Transit Authority so much we panhandled another 5 bucks to get in the next night I was really young then I didn't know it but we saw Terry Kath those two nights as well
As a youth growing up and playing drums i listened alot of Chicago's music and learnt a lot of riff from Danny thanks for been around then and now i also listened to others i am a fan for life.
I never fully appreciated him as a drummer, mainly because he makes it look so easy, but this was eye opening. Truly amazed at Danny Seraphine's talent.
Danny and Michael Shrieve are two of the most under-rated drummers. These two demonstrate the importance of that jazz background and that it is quality over quantity. Watch a video of Danny at Tanglewood and Mike at Woodstock! Both playing basically a "starter kit" (minimum equipment) make Peart and his gazillion drums & cymbals sound like a kid banging on mom's pots & pans.
He was fired cause he was just distracted with life and missing opportunities with family. Chicago's tour heavy scheduled screwed Cetera and Seraphine, maybe even Kath cause he was stressed and needed a break also.
@@cameronreed1021 I also heard that Chicago forced Danny to switch from acoustic drums to metal/electric drums to which he declined, resulting in the band firing him. Danny obviously didn't like the love-ballad direction that Chicago went for the 80s since the band was drifting from their jazz roots.
I think it was in the Chicago documentary or maybe the VH-1 Behind the Music episode where they said he was involving himself more in the business side and they just wanted him to be the drummer. So he got the ax.
@@ClueSign Yes, of Blood Sweat and Tears. He and Danny were both the best drummers of their time and still rank in the top 10 of all time. I've studied both and integrate elements of both into my style.
In many ways Danny is actually the main reason Chicago ever even happened, he was the one real reason everyone decided to stay together and try again and look what they became and yet he was fired from what "he" pretty much made happen and wouldn't have without him.
When Danny was in Chicago, they swung, then came the 80's and power pop drum machine nonsense was in vogue. And Chicago never swung the same. The drummers that came after were good but they just didn't swing, they seemed to come from more of a rock background then the early jazz-rock Chicago. Would have to hear the difference in the Chicago big band album from years ago if Danny was the drummer.
One of the greatest drummers of all time....definitely one of my favorite....in the top of all drummers....my feelings....t.y. for your great passion and artistry sir...
METAL at 3:10. He has a new fan. Would’ve loved to see him and Neil Peart jam together. But alas. Rip Professor Peart, live long and prosper Mr Seraphine
If you like these videos, check out Danny's Instructional DVD, The Art of Jazz Rock Drumming where he demonstrates his signature riffs from Make Me Smile, Introduction and much more plus video of his hometown, and a hilarious story of the hairpiece that saved his life.
My drum coach has been playing for 50 years. He got elected to play this at jam nite with some other INCREDIBLE players. It was a chick Destiny on sax. She also sings very well. I've heard this four over four years daily (Demon Dogs), so I know it by osmosis. This was the only part (3:44) he didn't get, as I recall.
for a band that started out promising each other they would stick together until the end, kicking danny out is a real head scratcher. the new guy is good but so what...no better than this.
PapaG Cortellino that wasn't quite as I heard it from.him. He said he didn't quite know why they booted him out if his own band. Which, while the making a of a great movie ("The Rocker" with Rainn Wilson=They boot him out to open for Whitesnake in the 80's), sucks irl.
@@electrablue4220 eh-boy folks, we have a real rocket scientist here. I guess someone doesn't have the reading skills to see "Danny Seraphine" in the TITLE. Looking at your avatar picture tells me your mommy wasn't even conceived with you in her tummy, when he played on this song back in the early 70's. However I'm an old enough fart to remember...😂
Yeah I actually googled after the comment because, I don't know something made me think it was simply too good to _not_ be. Thanks for the correction though, it's still impressive regardless of who is playing it :)

Same here Anthony. It is criminal. Peart + Moon + Danny = the best.

He reminds me of Buddy Rich - which is the ultimate compliment. He is so fast with his hands. Watching his left hand in this video is amazing.
95th Division BR admired him.and mentioned him by name as a drummer he liked. That he sounds a lot like BR is probably why.
That's how real drummers play, relaxed and letting the sticks do all of the work. Drummers like Neil Peart swing like a rusty gate by comparison.

Right, every word..
Ladies, gentlemen and drummers alike - Introducing the most underappreciated drummer... GOAT Danny Seraphine!!
Danny Seraphine one of the top 100 drummers of all time! My favorite part of listening to the band Chicago was you...Danny playing the drums!
You are truly an amazing legendary artist!
Met Danny in person in Ft.Myers Florida. Very friendly, shook my hand and said he appreciated all the fans.
Years ago I went to Eagles auditorium (Seattle) it cost 5 bucks to get in we loved Chicago Transit Authority so much we panhandled another 5 bucks to get in the next night I was really young then I didn't know it but we saw Terry Kath those two nights as well
You saw the legend when he was still living. Sweet story.
This is why Danny is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame!
exactly where he belongs!
I the angle of the camera on this video, showing Danny Seraphine up close and being able to truly see his technique. Awesome!
Would love to see Danny back in Chicago!
Danny has such a smooth cool grooving style! Love him!👍
I never realised just how good Danny was till a couple of years ago he should be back in Chicago where he belongs he is a monster player

Those early live Chicago concerts had so much energy and great musicianship.
I love Danny's playing.
Danny's very creative and I love the jazz influence in his playing...

The world's greatest drummer Buddy Rich was also a fan of Danny serafine's!!!!
And Bobby Colomby who had a similar if quieter approach.

One of the most underrated drummers ever, that fill at 4:47 is brilliant!
Can someone smashing drums bring tears to your eyes ?
The answer for me is obviously yes
Im with you Anthony
Just proof this stuff runs in our blood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is special in Danny' sound, is how he punctuates moods and his fills are so famously tasty.
Danny the master!

This man is a legend
it only took a good 30 minutes to find an absolutely mind-blowing cover of chicago. Thanks guys :D
Danny is the Master.
The band became Lame.
He just Rocks !
Nobody's can come close .
Yeah, the stuff they did in the '80s was lousy.
My fave vid of Danny of all of his clinic vids! :)

this is some sick drumming, watching it makes the song go by so quick
Even when he plays hi hat with just his foot....it's got sauce!!!! 🤯
Incredible!
he's still a beast
Still got it Danny one of my favorites.....
my god he sounds really good! hasn't lost his touch or his fire
Wow! Just... wow.
Good to see you in action again.
Danny is too good for Chicago.
my favorite song in the whole world! '=oD
He watched and commented to this song on Sinas Drums 👍👍
What a great drummer...
would love to see them in a reuion tour!!!
He never seems to get mention along with the great classic rock drummers, he certainly should.
WOW!
What can I tell you he is the Master.
expanded on the original recording.
excellent!!
Sure the fans would like to Him Back. Sell more tickets! !!!
@tazp123 You do realize that Danny was Chicago's original drummer, from 1967-1990

Patty Molloy he's always been a ridiculously nice guy. The only equal of all the famous people I've ever met, would be Steve Perry.
Whatever a drummer he is,Ringo Star is a child beside him
HUGE INFLUENCE

Can a great Drummer ever get the Credit they deserve w/o Someone always having to bring up Neil?....I wonder...
2:12 GUITAR SOLO
It looks like he's played this song before, lol
I wonder how the drums to the original sounded like? ;)
What a great learning tool! Why the video needed to start and end sideways, who knows.
Saw him, Met Him, Got a signed hat, and now Friends on Facebook lol
Saw him, met him, got signed drum sticks, lost them in divorce, must friend him on FB
All the great comments about Danny I KNOW
Maestro !!!!!
Makes it look so easy.
Drims are talkin !!!!
So.. the horn section fired Danny? I guess Danny was too good.
why chicago fired him?
Buddy Rich said in an interview that Danny was better than him.
This would be an incredible video were it not for the awful handling of the camera, especially at the worst possible moments.
Anybody who was Chicago was toxic in the mainstream press. Kath , Seraphine, Cetera was there ever a better rhythm section in rock. Hello.
Cantante , cómo Peter Cetera no hay. Dos
I have always loved him! I have never understood the Peter Cetera bullshit
Thats what it is ...................Bullshit
What PC bs? I always thought DS got along with PC...reading his book, it seems like Jason and Lamm had it out for him
PapaG Cortellino that wasn't quite as I heard it from.him.

Terry’s daughter in the back?
Big fan of Chicago till Danny Seraphine left. Not Chicago without Cetera and Seraphine
Chicago was never the same after Terry Kath died. Period.
Is that Jason singing?
Boy, at first started a little rough at the beginning, but then seconds later... Holy Sheep-Shit that is some great "in-the-pocket" drumming there.

Great! Except the Video and Audio SUCK!
Sorry guys , this drumming is very sloppy and not tight at all
