I've played drums for years. This man has been an early and constant inspiration. I love this guy! Chicago was never the same without him. He was the backbone of that band. No one has his feel or unique playing style.

He was the energy in Chicago. Their first album, CTA, was a drummer's buffet. I listened to that album until it melted! Danny is the man!

A drummer I knew years ago told me that when Buddy Rich was asked which rock drummers he liked, the only name he mentioned was Seraphine.

Seraphine, Bobby Columby and Carl Palmer were the ones Rich mentioned.

Modern Drummer Magazine 1977 interview. But he did mention another drummer as well.

Terry Kath was the primary creative force behind Chicago. But Danny was the fuel.

The mark of a great drummer. He understands the rules and rudiments so well that he can break the rules and create new rules and gets away with it because it works.

This guy makes me want to play the kit again..? Hey it's only been about 40 years. It's like riding a bike.. right?lol... I love the arguments of who was the "driving force" or the "leader" of Chicago. That band in the late 60's and early 70's was just simply lightning in a bottle. So does it really matter? Not one bit.

3:02 I never realized that Introduction had a section in 19. Don Ellis, who is famous for his compositions in odd time signatures, also had a song from 1966, divided the same way. The name of it was "33 222 1 222". Can't help but think Terry Kath got inspiration from that song.

I've always tried to learn as as many Danny'isms since early CTA days, and I'm still working on it, a labor of love! Also, anybody know anything about this DW kit that Danny played at this clinic? Is it all maple? Thanks and God Bless!!!
