    Great video! The best 1DX Review/Preview I've seen so far. Someone who actually USED The camera and knows what they are doing, lol. Not just looking at specs and saying it sucks/etc. Also you showed/talked about features no one else knew about/mentioned. Great presentation "as well". haha.

    Thanks for the samples with high ISO. As a sports shooter, ISO is important to me. To date, I've been fine using ISO 5000 but haven't had the need to go higher. Now, sounds like I can move higher with confidence.

      You’ll definitely enjoy that and the 20fps as a sports photographer. I don’t shoot sports, so I don’t know the correct term for this, but the warping in say a golf club while photographing at high speed in burst mode has been reduced.

    For a wedding photographer that use this camera, you must be a very busy very wanted wedding photographer to use this for weddings because of its' price. This camera was made for sports and wildlife photographers, so I only know of a few wedding photographers that use the 1Dx for weddings, and those that I know are the ones that shoot for Hollywood celebs and the elite/rich here in Southern California.

It was everything you wanted in a camera except AF. I've always felt it was Canon's test bed for the future. Imagine all the feature of the 1DX with a best in class EVF? 🤯

    I think Canon realised back when they combined the 1D and 1Ds into the 1Dx line, that it is a niche camera that is used by people that need ruggedness and performance over resolution, you can ride it into battle, use it to club the enemy and it will still work, but all joking aside, I've seen other reports that demonstrate that the live view AF is pretty incredible on the MK III, cumbersome that it will probably be to hold like that unless you have some sort of support, there is still a place for the ole OVF and SLR design, for now at least.
    As well is far less irritating than "obviously" which some others seem to say an awful lot.

    Canon and Nikon are putting out new flagship DSLRs to deliver the most high performance camera possible, before the new era of mirrorless REALLY kicks in - because let's be honest, we are still not quite there. For filmmakers and such, the Sony A7sII was a game changer, but for photography in my opinion the mirrorless just made the cut when the A9 and the new Canon and Nikon mirrorless came out. And that is only about 1/5 of the time we're having mirrorless technology available for full frame. The new mirrorless by Canon and Nikon also have new lens mounts and a new pro level DSLR is especially suited for people like me, who own a ton of glass for the "older" system which is still of awesome quality. For me it is still more affordable to keep my old lenses and get a $6.000 flagship DSLR than to get a not so pricy but still absolutely not cheap mirrorless where I have to basically buy an all new set of expensive new lenses to get the best performance on the new system. Also it is a chance to implement technology from the mirrorless age into a DSLR like e.g. phase detection and the possibility to basically use the DSLR as some kind of "semi-mirrorless" if you want it to.
    I also currently use both of the Nikon systems and I am not fully convinced and satisfied by the overall performance. I use an almost 10 years old Nikon D3s and it is really SHOCKING how well this monster of a camera keeps up with the new Z6 especially when it comes to ISO performance and image rendering. So well that I consider selling the Z6 and just stick to the old one. And we are comparing a 12MP flagship DSLR to a 22MP state of the art mirrorless here. I also appose this MP-Insanity - it is just not true that more MP equal a better camera. For those who need 50MP that's okay but really for the vast majority of photographers 12MP is really enough if you don't crop (which you shouldn't anyway - opinion alert).
    You could print billboard size with 12MP 10 years ago, so you don't need a 50MP camera today to do the same. It is all about viewing distance - nobody looks at a billboard or a large 3 yards wide print from 2 inches away to pixel peep it this image. If you do, you're a tech nerd and not a photographer. Non-photographers won't bother the detail anyway because they look at what the image makes them feel and what message it tells and not the micro detail.
    I think it is a great Idea to put them out, just like Nikon did it with the old Nikon F6, which is basically the most advanced Analog Film Camera there ever was as a great and well rounded closing to an era of photography. To put everything technology has to offer into their last camera model of this kind, into one final masterpiece of flagship. I will definitely go for the new Nikon D6, because I know it's gonna last me for the next 10 to 15 years of my professional career and will still be looking great and competitive in 2030, just as the old pro level cameras from 10 years ago are today.

    Great review with so beautiful photos from this camera, the best of the best!
    This camera is for the sport, action pros, who never accept lags of image from the view finder. The display rendering speed of today mirrorless EVF still has noticeable lag, which is an issue with action shooters. So, mirrorless camera cannot be the best choice for sport photography. It seems Canon has made a good decision to release this DSLR camera, the 1DX Mark III, to be well prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

I shoot 80 percent film so all this new 40fps nonsense doesnt faze me i shoot sport with a t90 manual focus 4fps with a 400mm no worries i say that to say this. Nobody makes a pro level dslr like canon the build quality and sheer size and a bit of nostalgia is whats drawing me to this beast in 2022 over a sony a1 or even the r5 or r3 even though i do value more resolution for large inkjet prints. @@VanessaJoy I watched it again. Things like the ETTL modes, network tab, pre-loading of metadata, time-sync and clarity slider are features I don't think I've EVER heard mentioned before in a review. It's great that you're a working professional that puts out great work!
      Now I'm remembering the review you did on the automatic flash awhile back. Again you did a great job, especially given its intended audience but I thought the negative comments were annoying. Canon's trying to ease people into a more complex form of photography and some people were poo-pooing it. Ah well...

    Hi Vanessa, I really enjoyed your video and I am impressed with your technical knowledge. You made a comment during the video regarding being able to use a new clarity slider within camera on your jpeg images. My question to you, is there a reason why you shoot using jpeg format? I presume you are shooting to two cards, RAW and jpeg, why don't you just shoot RAW to both. Does this have something to do with your workflow and being able to offer clients that immediate access to their images? On a similar note, a lot of Wedding Photography RUclipsrs tell us all about how to get the shot; what settings to use, how to enhance an image with OCF and how to pose a couple. Would you consider recording a video that describes what you do 'behind the scenes'? So, you talk about how important your brand is, and I would imagine your brand has a solid reputation because of all the fine-grain detail you put into the 'behind the scenes' such as being able to edit images on your laptop (or your 1DXMK3) during the wedding day/evening. My issue is, I am trying to understand how you are able to provide such a top-end service, so I can try and replicate it myself. Is it possible to do it on your own, or do I need people to help? Kind regards Paul.

    • @VanessaJoy
      @VanessaJoy  4 года назад +1

      Hey Paul! Thanks for writing. :-) I shoot raw and jpg because I do same day edits the day of the wedding, and with this camera I'm easily going to be able to take a jpg shot in camera, get it right and practically edited in camera, and then wifi it over to my iPad for the same day edit display. Everything else that I'm actually delivering comes form jpgs. :-)
      And I definitely have a lot of those videos coming, and a ton out right now on @adorama's YT channel in the Breathe Your Passion playlist :-)

      One of the largest and best collections of lenses available as it sits. Doubt that anyone could ever own all of them, or fail to find exactly what they need for any job among them. R lenses have a long way to go to catch up, which is why Canon will concentrate on them for the foreseeable future (and why no real pro mirrorless body yet). But I'm sure if the demand were there for a new EF lens Canon would oblige. Meantime, there are enough great lenses to last the lifetime of this model.

    Awesome review! Really glad it was about how the camera handle "wedding light". It's the reason I have one on order. I'll now have a 1 DX Mark ii as a second camera - should I sell it and get a second Mark III? I usually work with as a single shooter and have 2 different lenses mounted on 2 cameras. I hope to own this camera, I'm personally still using DSLRs because the mirrorless equivalent is just too darn expensive at the moment to migrate over to and DSLR lenses are cheaper in comparison. And this body is more rugged and shoots high fps with AF tracking better. If the sensor is improved as you mentioned, then definitely it will be in my sights.

      Saying "as well" several times over is not even close to being a serious enough matter to need your intrusion. Besides surely it is the choice of the viewer to decide if levity were needed.
      "as well" several times or "also" several times is better to be heard than an unnecessary intrusion to be seen.

    The sophistication of the new 1DX mk iii slaughters commentary online the past year or two about Sony being more innovative. Each brand has benefits, but the new Canon is literally a professional grade build and design. Apparently pre-order may provide one FREE card for the camera. Battery life is almost double, which can save enough of spares to compensate for the card side of things.

    • @VanessaJoy
      @VanessaJoy  4 года назад +1

      Yeah I totally forgot to mention the additional battery life. Really happy about that.

    • @photographerjonathan
      @photographerjonathan 4 года назад

      what a joke, what does it slaughter ? what is so innovative about It ? it's a 1DXll that shoots a little faster. and they put some mirrorless technology into it that is inferior to Sony's mirrorless tech. Canon live view will not track subjects worth a crap at 20 fps. the EOSR cant even do it good at 5fps, it's a 20mp camera with a bullcrap filter that they say has a new sense of sharpness. what a joke, you know what works even better, no low pass filter at all, this 1DXlll still weighs like a brick, only has 20mp, No IBIS, all the focus points are crammed into the middle of the frame. really the only thing that is new tech on this camera is the new smart focus point controller. witch I think is cool, other than that it is a dinosaur that they put lipstick on. and with all the so called innovation that you think it has, it won't wipe the ass of a Sony 24mp A9ll witch will track subjects like glue at 20fps. with no black out between frames. and eye auto focus that also locks on like glue. and has IBIS so you have image stabilization with any lens that you put on it. the only reason Canon made this camera is to buy some time for them to make long sport lenses for there new mount. and to have time to catch up with there mirrorless technology, but I am so glad that you fell for their marketing campaign so much so that you actually think this camera shows that they slaughtered the commentary about Sony. but after reading your comment again, I think you also work for Canon lol and by the way I am someone who still owns a Canon 5Dlll and lots of Canon mount glass. but I have moved on to Sony.

      @@videojeroki Of course not... however as I was watching the overview of the 1DX and how it was being used and for the purposes... I think the 5D could be a better option. The 1DX is best suited for and designed for faster and more accurate photography, sports, wild life (although the 7D mk ii is a good choice there), but weddings... hmmm That would be one video I would like to see some one really make the comparison about. What advantages does the 1DX have over the 5D when in a mostly still environment? and How can the extra $5k justify that. I am not arguing that it's not a great camera, if I had the cash burning a hole in my pocket I'd buy it cause I am a tech junkie with a photo habit... well more than just a habit.

    • @videojeroki
      @videojeroki 4 года назад +2

      @@WilliamBurdine ok, i see your point.
      If you do only wedding, yes the 1D serie is probably an overkill because of it's price point. If you do all kind of photography including sports/wildlife, then you can still use the 1DX serie for wedding and macro. no need to buy other camera.
      Here, she pointed out that the 1DXmkIII offers a great IQ at high ISO and she felt confident shooting without flash. that's maybe one of its strength for wedding photographs.
